@BriannaEmmiHorn My mother- in-Law was in Mexico in 1964. When she saw the headlines English Beatles invaded the U.S. She thought thought it was an agricultural disaster. My has always been my favourite.
I have been under a rock for 20 some years. why have I not heard any of this music. I was literally lost when. Paul made this records closed here in Los Angeles
It has happened before in music. When Liszt walked down the street in Paris, women threw flowers at him. In America in the 30s and 40s, the best new music was also the most popular.
I had just graduated college when the Beatles hit America (on the Ed Sullivan Show). Yes I am quite old now; I am not the guy I used to be. But my love for the Beatles has never diminished. Their music will live forever.
I was surprised that the Beatles’ appearance on the Ed Sullivan show was not mentioned in this video. That night was extremely significant for me. When Jon Batiste was still leading the band for Colberts ‘ show, he noted with reverence the fact that the Beatles had played on that very same stage.
The soundtrack of my youth. In 1967, when I was eight, my father walked into a record store for a birthday present for my mother and asked what was new and exciting. The clerk said Sgt. Pepper's, so he bought it. My mother, who was more of a classical music fan, played it once and laid it aside. I got hold of it and took it downstairs and played it over... and over... and over again. It blew my mind. Expanded my mind. Took me out of myself. On heavenly journeys. It opened new worlds of scenes and sounds and colours. A liberation. A joy. An inspiration. What life could be. Forever grateful.
In ‘64, when they were on Ed Sullivan, I was going on 15. My parents let me have “long” hair, in a Beatle style and even bought me some Beatle boots. I bought their “Meet The Beatles” album with my allowance, even though I had to put it on layaway. My $1.00 a week was all I got but in a few weeks, it was mine.
@Luthermutt_Notwell Okay my man calm down, sorry for breaking your balls! Regardless of your opinion (which I do respect) and I love the Stones, Beatles are, have been and will always be #1 and that's not me saying it that's the consensus among all the experts in the rock n roll industry, and you know that. Beatles were all too talented on their own so they had to break up. Hand it to the Stones though still going strong, a great live band and Jagger is incredible. But just for the sake of it in my opinion I would go with #2 Zeppelin. And after all that being said I listen to the old #3 Black Sabbath the most, they also changed music forever. Stones #4 The Who #5
The Beatles were the most culturally impactful group of the 20th century, period. People today who don’t investigate or understand them are truly missing out on an opportunity to learn about our journey to today. Then, there is the music itself….

I have a music degree and I am a musician and musicologist .I published a book a few years ago debunking your appraisal of the Beatles .I also played in a group / Band in the early 60's in the north of England playing gigs in the same places as the Beatles. They were not so revered as you allege and were not particularly rated in Manchester ,and parts of Liverpool. The band we all followed was a three piece power trio called "The Big Three ".They were not matched in their live onstage magnificence by any other band in the land ,except by ,perhaps the " Pirates " from London. And no,the " fab four " did not come anywhere near making false teeth gyrate. The Beatles became a nice acceptable band for pubescent young girls to scream at,The Big Three ,and the Pirates were for grown ups !
The Beatles stole black Americans music because white owned radio stations would not play their music. The only reason the Beatles became big is because they looked the part, but the actual music was nothing compared to what the true creators were playing.
Actually it is neo-liberalism, not the Beatles. People of Color could careless about the Beatles... But neo-liberalism destoryed our (and your) communities...
Makes me laugh when people say they weren’t great musicians? John was an excellent rhythm guitarist Paul one of the best bass players in Rock history, George has created more famous guitars riffs than any other musician and ringo is often cited as an influence by many famous drummers with his unorthodox but very memorable drumming, and just listen to the creativity of songs like strawberry fields and I am the walrus, complex musical masterpieces.
It seems unlikely, though, that any of the Beatles were great as instrumentalists. I admit I say this as a non-musician who MOSTLY going off what I've read. On the other hand, there's nothing in The Beatles catalog has nothing at all like the musicianship of "Voodoo Chile" by Jimi Hendrix. The closest is probably "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" which was Clapton on guitar. With all that being said, of course, what really made the Beatles what they were was the songwriting. Best songwriters ever.
The Beatles are the most influential group of recording artists, period!! Excellent singing Excellent 4 piece band Excellent songwriting Incredible diversity in sound Pioneering recording methods All that without being prodigies The Beatles influenced everything!!!!
One of scores of interesting tidbits a-boot the Beatles. The whiny, unusual, background instrumentation on "baby, you're a rich man" that kicks in just short of 10 secs into the track is John Lennon randomly rolling an orange over the keyboard of a clavioline. His original idea. As far as I know the only example of such a thing being done and a very nice touch. Also, possibly, an inadvertent advertisement in favor of casual drug use.
To actually have been alive to watch their story unfold in real time was to witness a total change in culture. It really is hard to overestimate their impact on everything. They completely altered the course of history and turned the world in a new direction. I've and I've never seen anything like it. It was really something.
Literally. And not just on a superficial, pop-culture level. Politics, spirituality, attitude. People just started acting, looking and thinking differently as a direct result of them. I saw it happen. You really had to be there. @@dodgecrockett3474
The Beatles changed nothing. We still have poverty, avarice, wars, famine, plague, birth & death. Music today is much worse than it was back in the 1960's. So what did the Beatles actually do that changed anything? Been out in public lately? People are very rude to each other.
‘Signs of fatigue…’ in the Beatles for Sale LP? Such a nonsense! It has masterpieces like No Reply, I don’t Want to Spoil the Party, Baby’s in Black, and so on. Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱.
John was like coming upon an opening to another universe----Paul was like finding a rare red wine and a nice bouquet of roses----George was like coming upon an undiscovered Mystic, full of love and wisdom----Ringo was like picking up the wrong laundry but the clothes are way better than yours
John could have been a Taurid meteor show, the way he ran the world at times. He knocked out much evil with his attitude about freedom.... and then he was unfortunately murdered
Putting the great music aside for a moment, the Beatles story of how they rose up from almost nothing to the GOAT rock band is simply an amazing story. Not to mention the individual stories of the four of them, the people they met along the way that helped them. Had they not found a drummer named Pete Best, perhaps they don’t go to Hamburg and learn their craft. The whole story is almost unbelievable, like it was made up. They improved so much from 1962-1963 and learned to write great songs at exactly the right time. They never repeated themselves once the hits started coming either. My most favorite subject for over 50 years now.
I had just come to the US alone at the age of 7- escaping communism. Very dark days for me, then, our beloved President was assassinated- I couldn’t believe this would happen in all places like the US of A. The freest nation in the world. I felt the entire country was in a sad coma- then just in a few short months, The Beatles saved us all. They brought sunshine once again. We all felt really for the first time that everything wonderful was possible. Perhaps, the Beatles are saving us all again. After the Beatles, the world, gladly, as we all knew it, would never be the same. Loved this documentary! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

They are probably the only band in the world that almost everybody knows the names of each member even 53 years after they broke up and the deaths of 2 of them.
1. WRONG. No singer/band, actor, ever changed anything: it is the pop culture mindless masses who DO IT FOR them so, THEY, the fans, who change music or "the world." 2. They are hardly any better than One Direction or Justin Bieber, or Jason DeRulo or Taylor Swift, etc., in fact, that's who today's Beatles are. The music and talent are easily secondary. 3. Apart from Rock, they are not better than Sade, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, maybe others. 4. Their influence hardly went anywhere substantial, as just about all those who SAY they were inspired by them hardly were a worldwide success. They only say they were influenced by them to kiss the asses of their feeble fans, who are many. On the other hand, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath influenced MANY hard rock and metal bands who actually became World Wide well known, selling the biggest stadiums of their times, from the 1970s through the mid 1990s, and even after this period hard rock and metal continue, even though with not as many listeners. The Beatles have NEVER come close. Their only major success was, as I said before, the same reason why Justin Bieber, One Direction, Jason DeRulo, etc., have become big names in pop music: pop culture mindlessness buys their music and concert tickets and THEY, the fans, make them number ones. I have had this conversation with Beatles fanatics before, and they can never ever win because the truth and realities are not what they stand on.
lol, they were manufactured by a bunch of record company suits. Most of the music was done by session players. Did you think this band became famous because of their ability, lol? No, they just did what they were told

They need to be rediscovered, I lived it as an American teen, saw the Ed Sullivan shows and even saw the live on last American tour. But what did I know at 15 I don’t know at 71. You won’t marry that cute girl you took to Cincinnati to see them be rained out and see them the next day, for real. I feel old and they are almost forever young. I need to dig into my vinyl collection and find out what I continue to have. Most likely more Rolling Stones. Thanks Fab Four.

After listening to the Beatles go from 'Please Please Me' to 'Sgt. Pepper's...' within a couple of years, to me, is astounding. Thank you, Mom & Dad, bringing me into the world just in time to witness musical history.
Just the other day…on Jan. 24, ‘23 I was in my kitchen doing some things…where there’s a Bose Wave radio atop my fridge. I often put it on where my oldies station awaits. All of a sudden this boisterous and nervous drum roll erupted from the radio…followed by an imperative shouting chorus of how “She loves you yeah, yeah, yeah!” was thrown at me. At that very second I tried to imagine what this was like in ‘63 or 4 when it first arrived over the airwaves. The song still excites me! I loved every second of it - all 2 1/2 minutes of it. I mean these guys wrote their OWN songs and this tune opens with the chorus! This was huge. They weren’t a covers band and it was a big deal. It changed most everything. What I find fascinating is that within the less-than-three minute songs they wrote, there so much vital information within those couple minutes. Song crafters at their best!
I was jsut 6 ys. old at the time, and I assure you, it was exactly as you describe. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at the radio at the same time in awe and bewilderment. What is THAT??!!
The Beatles did not shape my life. I liked so many other American and British groups. I liked the Beatles just fine, and I think the standard they set made the others work harder.
So hard to believe that I actually REMEMBER their first trip to the United States, on the Ed Sullivan show, of the Beatles on television 😮😊. They'll always have a beloved spot in my heart! They were "grownups", we were children, but oh, how special they were--growing up together!!
The Beatles were a household name in our family home in the 60's and 70's mum and dad loved them and all of us kids got to hear the White Album on a daily bases. When my eldest sister was 14/15 she was in love with Paul and dad took the whole family in the car from Holland to London (7 kids mum and dad) back then you could drive with no seatbelts on. We stayed in a hotel in London, walked the street and drove to Abbey Road and to the Studio as well as to Paul's house so that Kitty could see his place, took a photo of the brick wall. We all had photo's of us walking Abbey Road too. This would have been 1970 as my youngest brother was only a young child in a pram born in 1969. My sister Michele is named after the song Michele my bell. I use to sing it to her at her cot when I was 4. It was so good to take my youngers sister to see Paul McCartney on the Got Back tour in Sydney on 28th October 2023. Wont be able to top that gig.
The Beatles were so into with the feelings and attitudes of young people and their needs and wants to let them think for themselves and express themselves. The establishment didn't want or accept change and tried to put the youths down. The Beatles were such a blessing because they didn't particularly adore their government, the U.S. government or any other government, they represented the youth in their music and change was happening for the good thank God. The Beatles were 4 boys who changed history in the 60's, unbelievable.
In 63, I was 15, my gereration lived all what is in this document, sometimes, I see myself imagining what life would have been without the Avent of The Beatles, and, that tought gives an awful sens of emptiness.
The Beatles certainly changed my life. I was born in 1954 so I was at just the right age to fall in love with them when they arrived on the scene. I saw them on The Ed Sullivan Show and from that point on they have been my favorite music artists of all time. They’ve been the soundtrack of my youth and the music I’ve turned to that always has the power to make me happy no matter what tragedies I’ve experienced in my life, and there have been many. I was too young to have an opportunity to see them in person, but I WAS able to attend several Paul McCartney concerts and he’s always been fabulous! One time I was on vacation with my kids visiting my cousins in Lake Tahoe and Paul was playing at AT&T Park in San Francisco during that week. So of course I drove down to SF (about a 3 or 4 hour drive) met up with a group of my friends, went to the concert (which was FABULOUS!) then drove back up to Tahoe to rejoin my family on vacation. Paul played an extra TWO hours that night, so it was 4am when I got back to my family! I loved every second! 🎶🎸🎹🎵❤
What the Beatles did for music and culture is stunning. 100 years from now people will wonder what it was like to have lived in that era. I am so lucky to have experienced what it was like. The stars aligned for the Beatles.🇺🇸🇬🇧
the beatles and their music will live forever and have made living in this world both bearable in bad times and utterly wonderful in good times thankyou boys so so much
Their foundation in '63 and '64 set it all in motion, but it was their 1965 album 'Rubber Soul,' and their 1966 album 'Revolver,' where their music really took a left turn and became ARTISTICALLY EXPLOSIVE!. If you compare what they were doing in 1963 to what they ended up doing a mere seven years later, it's like listening to two completely different groups. What's hard to believe is how little time they were actually together, yet how long their influence has lasted!
Agree 1000%! They were together as a performing band far less than a decade (especially with Ringo's uncanny percussion talents onboard)... and yet they changed the world in ways that are still being talked about, felt and evaluated today in 2023--- over sixty years later. Sadly, John was lost to a madman's bullets at the tender age of 40... and George was ravaged by cancer while still a relatively young man. Ringo genuinely seems immortal ... and so does the immense talent that is Sir Paul McCartney, MBE. I grew up with The Beatles, having turned 14 just a few months after they became world famous on Ed Sullivan's TV show. The rest ~ as we all know ~ is history. The Beatles' influence continues to this day -- and who can say how long their impact will endure. 'My guess is that their music and their cultural impact will never fully fade away... long after all four have lived out their mortal lives. The impact of The Beatles is likely to be as endless as the oceans' tides.
I do agree 'bout their turn in these 2wo albums. Electric guitar got more present in "Taxman", played by Georges H. But nothing beats Georges' approach to Indian music. It was necessary to shake off and dust off the thick layer of bullshit specific to the French, the most idiotic in Europe.
@@danielgiraud1118 Dan,,,, guess what,,,,,, Paul McCartney actually played the lead guitar on 'Taxman' with George's blessing,,,,,,, just say'n. But yeah ,,,,, George wrote it. 😎. 😎. 😎. 😎.
Yes, that is true, but even beginning with the 2nd album .."With the Beatles" and all following albums up to "Rubber Soul" were, for me just as, at that time in the 1964's uncomparable...and as a 13 year old kid,, ARTISICALLY EXPLOSIVE...They were always the same band.
The Beatles shaped your life ,no matter who ,what ,or how you are ,they changed the world ,and the world you live in has changed, and all your music, hair style, thoughts are from the Beatles changing this world -
I grew up listening to the Beatles, buying every new record that was released, daydreaming about Paul. 🙂. My parents and siblings loved the Beatles, my 3 kids, my 6 grandchildren love the Beatles. My 6 yr old great-granddaughter can distinguish who's singing most songs and she can sing along too!
OK, we've all seen like a zillion Beatles documentary films, but this one is quite different and eye-opening. It speaks of class culture, the state of Liverpool and Britain 2 decades after the war, the cries of the young trying to find themselves and break out of their established roles in life. This film is about culture and politics, moral standards....and about how The Beatles changed all that like we never understood before. It zooms way, way out and shows us much more than the music.
For a such a short video, this doc covered a lot of territory and presented the turning points accurately and interestingly. I liked the way they merged the music with the social change it was causing. Really well done.
@@MitchHawkes An hour and 48 minutes is a pretty short time into which to condense the epic story of the Beatles . Take the Beatles Anthology 1-3 films as a comparison -- I think that this single film did a really good job of distilling the story down to a third of the size of those. It's a weird thing, though, and kind of mind-boggling to think about the fact that the Beatles' career itself was condensed in terms of time, but it was such a supernova of creativity and change that volumes and volumes have been written about it, films are still made about it, and they continue to be fascinating to this day, 60 years later. Time and space don't really exist when the Beatles are the subject.
Correction they were a voice for not just one generation but atleast three generations of absolute genius thank you to all the beatles for creating the soundtrack of my life
I saw the Beatles concert/event in 1964 at Indianapolis is on U tube. Wow It was amazing. There could not be a more excited crowd. The girls went crazy and were carried out on stretchers passed out. It changed my music over night. I started playing Premier R/R Drums. I was playing Pop and Jazz Trumpet. It was all great. Our talented band was playing album rock before we knew what album rock was. We and no others tried to play the Beatles. Nobody was good enough with trick equipment to play their world changing music and how they presented themselves. Why insult their new type of music. The Greatest. Oh Yeah Yeah Yeah. TD Atlanta
I humbly say I'm one of the biggest Beatles fans in the world. My parents graciously bought me my own record player when I was 6 years old, and I listened to their Beatles albums over and over. Revolver is my favorite, but their three run peak of musical perfection in Rubber Soul - Revolver - Sgt. Pepper will never be equaled. My grandfather was friends with John Lennon for a couple of years, and I have some neat stories. Love is all you need. God bless!
Salut mon ami ! Si tu es le plus grand fan des Beatles alors tu dois connaître la chanson : "Good King Wenceslas". Oui ? Non ? J'ai des disques d'eux (Extended playing) chanté en allemand, en italien et en espagnol. Hi my friend ! If you're the biggest Beatles fan then you must know the song: "Good King Wenceslas". Yes ? No ? I have records of them (Extended playing) sung in German, Italian and Spanish.
Magical Mystery Tour has some masterpieces on it too. My favorites are Strawberry Fields Forever and Magical Mystery Tour (title track). But, I Am The Walrus is very solid. And Penny Lane is pretty decent too.
And now we just got their last song Now and then in 2023! All these years later they are memorable! I just saw Paul McCartney’s concert (Got back tour) yesterday and he was so good!!
I was so lucky to be a teenager in LA in the sixties and saw the Beatles perform at the Hollywood Bowl and Dodger Stadium. We were crazy fans and sought them out whenever they were in town, at Capitol Records and wherever they stayed in Hollywood.
The ones who were around in the Beatles' time, will understand. I am one of them. "I don't expect everyone will like us, but we do what we do, and that's what suits us"-John Lennon.
I was born after the Beatles broke up but they are without doubt my favourite music and I think they are the 4 most talented musicians of the modern age.
I'm 29 years old. My dad was born in 1956. As a young child I grew up listening to nothing but The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and every other band from those times and even some you've probably never heard of. Lucky for me my dad had a wide range of taste in music. I was spoiled. But as a young boy going into my teen years I couldn't appreciate any of it. Now as I've got some years under my belt that's all I listen to. I couldn't tell you a single thing about music today. Literally. Not a single thing. But ask me about a song from almost 60 years ago and I'll tell you the name of the band and who the drummers mom is.
I remember exactly where I was when my brother’s friend brought a new 45 round to play at our house - it was “Love me do”. We had never heard anything so life changing. Soon saw them live in Bournemouth!
In 1964 I went to a birthday party of a friend of mine and there I listened my first Beatles song. Her father was a fan of them, so I was 8 years old and HELP change my world.
Our parents in our home town of Portland Oregon turned on The Ed Sullivan Show that night in early February 1964. We had no idea what we're about to see. From hearing those first words sung, and their spectacular instrumental accompaniment from each of them, I could tell that this was something really special. [Even if my young age, the middle instrumental verse in the cover number they did Till There Was You with Paul McCartney inging. That middle verse was a short fill-in of guitar by George Harrison. Looking back in retrospect I now realize that their musical abilities were quite mature for their age. Harrison is seen playing diminished an augmented chords like almost jazz or Bossa Nova. Just a young man in America back then or even today at age 20, that can play sophisticated jazz guitar.] The Beatles names were flashed on the screen, our mother began to scream for John Lennon. I was nine and a half years of age then. The next day my brother and I went to the local record store and bought the first album, Meet The Beatles. After playing it on our small phonograph a few times in our bedroom, I decided to make cardboard mock guitars with kite string, so my brother and I could pretend like we were lip-syncing to the music. We invited a couple of other friends to do this with us. One of those friends later told his mother that I showed him how to play Beatles music on a cardboard guitar. She said she would get him a real guitar and send him to music school. He eventually quit high school early, and went to attend the New England Conservatory for Music in Boston. He became a great Blues and jazz guitar player here in Portland Oregon, and credits me today for getting him interested in playing guitar when we were about 10 years of age. [Now thinking of this today, I wonder if I invented lip-syncing...?] I told this story to the famous Aimee Mann on NPR's Talk of the Nation, when they commemorated the 40th anniversary of The Beatles Sergeant Pepper's album release. I believe this was on June 4 2007. [Those discussions shows are all archived at NPR to review.] www.npr.org/2007/06/04/10705875/singer-recalls-the-first-time-she-heard-the-beatles
The final rooftop concert was for me the absolute pinnacle of The Beatles...a masterpiece of musicianship and professional performance skill..... Breathtaking and beautiful, timeless and seemingly effortless, they nailed it and became eternal that day.
I've never actually watched any of those old interviews and understood the context. They were just nice and witty and a bit rowdy teenagers but in an endearing way. And extremely skilled musicians.
“I Want To Hold Your Hand” was my first memory of the Beatles from my oldest brother, Roberts, record. I was dancing the ‘twist’ @ 3yrs young and Robert, was wearing Beatle Boots. Love the Beatles and especially George Harrison. Thank you for this! 🥰
I've watched countless documentaries on the Fabs over the years. But they were mostly focused on the music. I've always wanted to see something about how the world, and us as fans evolved along with them, and the effect they had culturally. This is essential. Thank you. 😻✌
Many moms and dads or the 1960"s teenages loved The Beatles too. Their songwriting and prolific recording sessions were lapped up because they were so talented. I was 10 years old in 1965, and we were all mad Beatles fans.
even then i feel its an understatement - they are so much more than an amazing band hard to sum it up. So glad to have grown up being exposed to them and their influence.
these guys presented so much in their films - especially 1966 and on - mind blowing - the work they completed in such a short time still has more vitality and life than any contemporary artist.
The Beatles were more than just a part of the music business they were articulate people who evolved with the times and actually impacted the mindset of millions of people with their meaningful lyrics. Nothing could be more timeless than John Lennon's "All we are saying is give peace a chance. Their music is still relevant today. I still listen to it, and it still elevates my spirit.
So happy this documentary is back on RUclips!! It was the documentary that first got me into the Beatles back in 2020!! Ever since I watched this, I’ve been the biggest beatle fan on the planet: trips to Liverpool, the Dakota, abbey road I’ve pretty much done it all!!
Excellent documentary, Thank you. In the year 1964 my mom gave me money to buy 2 tickets as a pre-birthday gift to see The Beatles. The location was the Montreal Forum dated September 8th. 1964 for the afternoon concert. I couldn't believe it was happening. One of best experiences ever. John ~ Paul ~ George ~ Ringo The most creative group in the world ☮💟
Excellent documentary, I was 14 in 1964, Thanks to my grandmother, I got to see The Beatles 3 times. Your video brought back those wonderful memories. Thank you.
The USA was still going through the shock and sorrow of losing JFK. The Beatles' sound was a healing experience which was sorely needed in America. My grandmother in Manchester said the world would never be the same because of the Beatles' music. Well-said, Gran! Countless thanks, Paul, John, George, and Ringo! To my mind (and ears) "Please Please Me" was an amazing amalgam of The Everly Brothers (vocally) Buddy Holly (guitar) and Eddie Cochran (lyrically and musically). It remains my favorite tune by The Beatles.
People don't even realize today that let us say the Beatles went from their extraordinary simple rock to psychedelia like Pepper, and on out the other side into what were there last 3, the White album in 68, the album where they were crossing that street, Abbey Road, and GetBack, they dominated in all 3 phases, like being a light weight champion, a middle weight, and a heavy weight, I never stopped appreciating just their early period, God, how I and my classmates worshipped a film or lp like Help, great movie.
Britain's mood was very low also in that year. Especially the winter of 1962-63 and the Beatles were a mighty boost to national spirit and moral as we all shoveled our way out of the coldest bleakest winter in UK history. I was 11 years old then, I a seventy now and still listen to their music.
The Beatles set the bar for creative growth for a musical act...each album was a leap forward into uncharted original territory... to go from Love Me Do to I am the Walrus in 4 years is mind boggling ...and no band has had near the far reaching cultural and political impact the Fabs had...but their undeniable genius talent as song writers and composers aside the Beatles also had that chemistry magic that is very near impossible to get with 4 different people and that the beatles themselves never had with anyone else they played with in their solo careers - and while solo they still made some excellent music together there was just that magic that would happen when the 4 of them played together that elevated them above the competition....and when you realize that they did all that while in their 20s is absolutely astounding.
100 percent on point! From the time I saw that first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show through today, I look back and still can't believe the newness of the music that I still feel today whenever I hear a Beatles song, the volume of music and the quality of that music. You can watch a thousand documentaries, but unless you were there in the time watching it, experiencing it, and living it, you can never truly understand the immense talent the Beatles possess. One particular thing that amazes me is that they had 4 or 5 songs at the top of the charts at the same time. The Beatles stand with the great composes of classical music as well as those of modern era. I don't believe we will ever see anything like it again.
The video of the four of them hustling to the stage at Mets Stadium in '66, the excitement, the incredible screaming of the packed house........ some feelings one never forgets...

I don't care how monetarily successful the Beatles were. They performed really sweet, romantic songs like 'I want to Hold your Hand ' . It touched my heart when I was 5 & 1/2 . I'm pushing 65 now, and it Still touches me .
I'll be 60 next year and apparently, like you, I grew up listening to (and loving) the Beatles music. While I'm certainly glad they had such phenomenal success- money is the last thing I consider when thinking about the Beatles. The music always comes first, the money, to me, is irrelevant. I don't know about you, but I was so young when I was first exposed to their music that my critical thought process hadn't formed yet- so there were very few Beatle songs that I didn't like, and I had and listened to all their albums, nearly equally, although I mostly consider their last albums progressively better than their earliest work. As a child, I'm pretty sure songs like Within You, Without You. and Tomorrow Never Knows were a bit too sophisticated for my 2 to 8 year old taste. But I can recall the first time I read and actually was able to comprehend the meaning of Georges lyrics for Within. Long before I had taken any acid and had my mind expand- i remember realizing what a beautiful concept he was describing, and I've loved that song ever since. A boring song became a great song just like that. If you have any memories, feel free, I'll read them. Working graveyard shift at a motel front office at the moment. 3 days part time work pays my rent, and the possibility of danger keeps me sharp and on my toes. Peace.
@@dionmcgee5610 I was four when they played on the Ed Sullivan show, I don't remember it, I don't even know if we watched it, I was probably in bed, haha. Somewhere along the line, I connected with them. I don't even know when. It may have been just hearing them on the radio as a four and five year old, or seeing the Beatle cartoon on Saturday mornings occasionally while watching Casper the Friendly Ghost. An older cousin brought over the Help Album, the Capitol version of course, and played it, but I don't remember what I thought, but I was definitely aware by then that the Beatles were a big deal and were very famous. My sister had a copy of Rubber Soul and that kind of sealed the deal, particulary the song In My Life. I don't consider myself a first generation fan, but I'm thankful that they existed during my lifetime. I've read many of the books about them, collected their records and seen Paul and Ringo play live. It's been a fun journey. I hope to go to Liverpool and London and see the sites they made famous.

It's incredible how much more we are still learning about the Beatles. George and especially Paul rarely said anything about being raised in Catholic homes. Not too popular in UK where plenty of my and plenty of other people's ancestors were put to death for being Catholic. George and Paul met at a Catholic boy's school.

I didn’t start getting into the Beatles til my early 20’s, I’m 41 now, but now that I’m older, know mostly every song they’ve ever wrote and heard ‘em all a hundred times, but I like watching the documentaries just as much cuz it’s really a story about history, some of the few storylines we all know happened 100%, unlike most the history we’re all taught in the indoctrination camps we put our kids in, myself included, but at least mine are in Private School. Which is why I can connect a little bit with Baby Boomers and Gen X. A lot of people back in the day at least started at Private or Catholic schools, wearing 2-3 piece suits and a tie. But the Beatles really were the catalyst, if not Elvis, to open the minds of many people… some would say it wasn’t for the better, but you can’t ever take away that they’ll most likely always be the greatest band in the history of music. Imagine if we got 20-30 of the Beatles… 🤔 just, “IMAGINE.” 😎✌🏼🤘🏼
The Beatles certainly impact my personal life. Thank you for this compilation about How the Beatles Changed the World (Documentary) Amplified. As always, I love the Beatles then and now. ♥
I grew up on this and I recall seeing the 1st live broadcast of The Beatles, in Black and White, this band changed my life! I wanted to become an astronaut, then I wanted to BE RINGO! I went to the music store and bought drumsticks! I still Play the drums at age 66! Then this vid, (Brought back so many memories) reminded me that as a young boy, Richard Nixon drove through my home town and I shook his hand! A few years later, he resigned. I was glad he did! BUt anyway, this was a really great documentary! SO glad I watched it!
I was only 9 when the Beatles first came to the US and we already knew from the radio that there simply was no other band with a comparable sound---from the guitars to the back-beat and of course vocal harmonies and Paul's deep bass in perfect synch with Ringo. My Dad said "they won't last 6 months" but we had the last laugh and he even began to like their later tunes.
A comprehensive documentary. In retrospect, the way the four young men met and grew progressively more influential is almost mystical. Brian Epstein becoming their manager, George Martin their producer, every aspect of the Beatles' story is touched by magical meetings. The decision to stop performing live and use the studio as a creative force was perfect.
Do you think the world would have been as different without The Beatles’ impact on music and culture? 🤔

Makes me laugh when people say they weren’t great musicians? It seems unlikely, though, that any of the Beatles were great as instrumentalists. I admit I say this as a non-musician who MOSTLY going off what I've read. On the other hand, there's nothing in The Beatles catalog has nothing at all like the musicianship of "Voodoo Chile" by Jimi Hendrix. The closest is probably "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" which was Clapton on guitar. With all that being said, of course, what really made the Beatles what they were was the songwriting.
Lol, that was Quincy Jones Said, but he was comparing them to jazz musicians. Of course they' re going to sound like shit compared to them.
To actually have been alive to watch their story unfold in real time was to witness a total change in culture. It really is hard to overestimate their impact on everything. They completely altered the course of history and turned the world in a new direction. I've and I've never seen anything like it. It was really something.
Dirty Lemon, when you said that the Beatles "completely altered the course of history", did you mean that literally or figuratively?

Putting the great music aside for a moment, the Beatles story of how they rose up from almost nothing to the GOAT rock band is simply an amazing story. Not to mention the individual stories of the four of them, the people they met along the way that helped them. Had they not found a drummer named Pete Best, perhaps they don’t go to Hamburg and learn their craft. The whole story is almost unbelievable, like it was made up. They improved so much from 1962-1963 and learned to write great songs at exactly the right time. They never repeated themselves once the hits started coming either.
It's about time I hear a little more BEATLES. I forgot how much they shaped my childhood.

YES!
Some moments are *Magic* that live on forever as if they exist somewhere outside of time.
Awesome
The Beatles were so into with the feelings and attitudes of young people and their needs and wants to let them think for themselves and express themselves. The establishment didn't want or accept change and tried to put the youths down. The Beatles were such a blessing because they didn't particularly adore their government, the U.S. government or any other government, they represented the youth in their music and change was happening for the good thank God. The Beatles were 4 boys who changed history in the 60's, unbelievable.
I used to skip whole day of high school (early 70's) & play the albums in order. It was a very educational field Trip .
BEATLES FOREVER!!!!
At long last, this superb production makes clear what has been impossible to explain unless you grew up in the 60s. Thank you.
Born in 1973 but I know the songs.
Great comment.
In 63, I was 15, my gereration lived all what is in this document, sometimes, I see myself imagining what life would have been without the Avent of The Beatles, and, that tought gives an awful sens of emptiness.
I was 18 in 1968. I was the first and maybe only, guy in my high school to have long hair.
I wasn’t born yet but I love the songs of the 60s
@Rob Iacullo congrats, you were one of the first to be part of the CIAs culture experiment
Wow❤ ohcool!
What the Beatles did for music and culture is stunning. 100 years from now people will wonder what it was like to have lived in that era. I am so lucky to have experienced what it was like. The stars aligned for the Beatles.🇺🇸🇬🇧
Amazing what they accomplished in such a short period of time.
I was surprised the beetles were together such a short time
It usually doesn’t take long to wreck something.
They accomplished quite a bit. But the groups that stayed together and to tour and make albums made mega-millions. Sorry about that, Beatles.

These guys changed HOW YOUNG PEOPLE FEEL ABOUT THEMSELVES, EACH OTHER,HOW THEY LOOKED AT THE WORLD,LIFE,DEATH AND LOVE , AS THE GOLDEN THREAD OF LIFE.
You said 'lasted' like it's gone. They regularly have clues on Jeopardy! that are about the Beatles.
It was our time to feel good.
The Beatles were sheer joy, the sound of them and the sight of them! Sheer joy.
I totally agree with you. It will never happen again

Short? It went way over an hour.
Get the message across in shorter time, dudes.
God bless!
Great comment.
Can you tell us 1 of your grandfathers John stories?
Right! Except that 'Pepper' is half crap, a quarter tin, and the rest gold.
One of the happiest moments of my life was seeing Paul McCartney live. Some of the best concert energy ever.

There simply never will be a time like this. Lucky to have been alive and wittiness the last 60 years
I'm 29 years old.
The Beatles were brave in that they continued to evolve where most bands tend to not deviate from the style that brings them their initial fame.
Just a young man in America back then or even today at age 20, that can play sophisticated jazz guitar.]
The Beatles names were flashed on the screen, our mother began to scream for John Lennon.
[Now thinking of this today, I wonder if I invented lip-syncing...?]
I told this story to the famous Aimee Mann on NPR's Talk of the Nation, when they commemorated the 40th anniversary of The Beatles Sergeant Pepper's album release. I believe this was on June 4 2007. [Those discussions shows are all archived at NPR to review.]

What a wonderful story. I was on a British cargo boat in Feb' 1964 that docked in Portland and saw the hysteria and hype the Beatles bought about.
@MarkSeibold, George Harrison was playing a bolero, as accompaniment to Meredith Wilson's Till There Was You.
Beatles were one of the first music groups to write their own music, uheard of of the times.
when they toured they broke hearts, but when they became a studio band they shattered minds!!
The final rooftop concert was for me the absolute pinnacle of The Beatles...a masterpiece of musicianship and professional performance skill.....
Breathtaking and beautiful, timeless and seemingly effortless, they nailed it and became eternal that day.

Bravo ! Tu parles bien. Thou hast got a wisdom eye.

I had tears in my eyes during parts of 'Eight Days A Week'.
1. WRONG. No singer/band, actor, ever changed anything: it is the pop culture mindless masses who DO IT FOR them so, THEY, the fans, who change music or "the world."
2. They are hardly any better than One Direction or Justin Bieber, or Jason DeRulo or Taylor Swift, etc., in fact, that's who today's Beatles are. The music and talent are easily secondary.
3. I love Rock music, and I enjoy their music, but I don't know all their names as some people say...nor is their talent outstanding as for example Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Guns & Roses, Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam, Rush are/were.
