Mark's Sailor Moon transformation was gold
I wanted to include that but I didn't wanna spoil it! So good.
Sarah AKA Novaxal Wow they just love to put in Connections to GizmoDuck in the Reboot from that.
It was all pink!
*blinded*
I didn't even notice how Mark started calling him that AFTER he saw Fenton! Christ! Also how funny is the voice he puts on when he plays gizmoduck? Hahahha
I loved the mark beaks anime style transformation.
Moon Prism Power, Make Up!
ABC Pumpkinz that moment legitimately had me asking “is this show real?” Our loud, to no one.
I had already read that Mark Beaks was a fan of magical girl anime, so I was wondering how that would come up in the show, if it ever would. Boy, was I blown away. XD
Of all the countless powered armor henshin anime out there you people only frame of reference is Sailor Moon? Not Guyver, Saint Seya, Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Robotech...
Oh, that Sailor Moon reference
What I like is that Mark Beaks's scheme fails specifically because he treats people so badly. Had he allowed WaddleDuck to also do basic heroism in addition to the app, it would have worked. He'd get money from the app, and people would tend to think well of both his company and WaddleDuck. He could even promote the app as what pays for his ability to do the other stuff.
His specialty is creating buzz and good press. If not for his misanthropy, he could have made this work. His self-centeredness and lack of caring for others led to his downfall.
Scrooge has his flaws, too. He's greedy and miserly. But, because he cares about people, he's able to hold onto his work.
The important thing with Mark Beaks is that he's also a big, big control freak, and really hates anyone but him being the centre of attention. After all, his entire scheme in his first episode is based on totally controlling his image and people's perceptions of things around him. Outright taking the Gizmoduck suit for himself is perfectly in line with that. An interesting foil to how Scrooge never really cared how other people viewed him, but has an interest in not being seen as a completely stereotypical greedy businessman and thus tries to do positive PR projects.
@@KingOfElectricNinjas On top of that, Scrooge still has his #1 dime because he doesn't want to forget where he came from and how hard he worked to get to where he is. Meaning he does remember just how poor his family was as a child and that he would never forget the struggle just to survive in 19th century Glasgow.
I love everything about reboot Fenton and Gizmo Duck. Honestly Fenton brings me joy and is a character I want to see develop and thrive.
Cookie Gal I love Fenton because of his personality, drive to help and he’s voiced by Lin Manuel Miranda
Robert Small Lin voicing him was a great idea. It made my love for Fenton grow more.
I love him too
Personally, I really enjoyed the previous version of Fenton, whether he's Gizmoduck or a normal guy. Heck, he's tied with Launchpad as my favorite character from the original "Ducktales." But even with that, the reboot did an amazing job with him, especially in this episode. Also, am I the one that got an "Incredibles" vibe when Gizmo-- or Waddleduck was unable to save that family because of his jerkwad boss?
yes me too I did enjoy fenton in the old show too... but I get what Seaniccus was trying to say, the old fenton was not heroic without the suit, on the other hand, this fenton is heroic with or without the suit. (not that you missed that point, just reiterating it hahah). and yeah I was like... oh no, its mr incredible all over again hahaha.
I find it interesting how dt reboot recreate the original characters while also introducing new ones
At 3:00, you forget to mention that she’s also been redefined from a grumpy lazy ass to a serious cop. Which is cooler.
I wanted to include that too, but didn't have a good place to fit it in. I love that she's a better person now.
Seaniccus you and me both.
I do not like it, how is this better?
Mark Beaks calling him "chiko" and all that jazz was already bad enough, but the fact that he calls him that _immediately_ after seeing Fenton for the first time, that hit me.
Same
Someday Beaks will regret the day he became CEO of Waddle.
FENTON IS A PRECIOUS CINNAMON SUGAR CHILD
emzy ducklover yep 😂
Y E S
You could say, he's a precious _linnamon_ roll.
I'll show myself out
Ezel Francisco ~ THIS COMMENT IS LEGENDARY
I
KNOW
RIGHT!?!?!
This sure was a first where Beaks showed real signs of Villainry. Indeed it was at first confirmed he’d be one of the Villains in the Reboot, which was even shown in the intro, but previous appearances made him seem more so neutral without Beaks having done a single villainous scheme. In the future his next villainous goal might involve sabotaging Scrooge in a way or teaming up with one of the other villains.
Well, he did try to steal tech from Scrooge before. But I guess that's more rich people squabbling.
What's funny is that, if he wasn't such an asshole, it could have worked. His specialty is creating buzz and good press. He should have known that having Waddle Duck do some pro-bono work on the side would have only served to help him out.
Because he's a parody of Meme style online google tech corporations with no actual product, he's a better foe for Gizmoduck than for Scrooge, who really doesn't have much of a reason to take him seriously.
Personally I never noticed the micro aggressions but i really like the inclusion
Zachary Breen
It's not micro aggression it's Mark just being mean and selfish.
Clayton Johnson exactly they stayed true to beak’s character and does make him a complete ass on social media
@@zacharybreen8891
Here's the problem with millennial they think everything is racist towards a certain race when in reality it's not.
@@leohino9211 You do realise that a lot of the people who are on this website are millennials?
@@awkwardsauceart
I should've been more specific. There are some millennials who think everything is racist in order to make themselves feel superior while others, such as myself have common sense and critical thinking skills.
I just have to say, though: Lin Manuel Miranda makes EVERYTHING better.
I am Mexican myself and I feel he is over-rated.
TheSsbcandidates I guess I don't see what being Mexican has to do with liking him or not, but you're certainly entitled to your opinion as well. I just think he's a very gifted music writer.
+transfan24 He is a US citizen yes of hispanic heritage, but how is he representing me, my cultural region and nationals when he does not? Hamilton is not a something which benefits Mexico or another nation in Latin America or Spain. If he is so great, why doesn´t he help out to make Mexico and its people great!? Oh yeah, because he is not Mexican.
TheSsbcandidates Ok, calm down. I can understand why you would feel that way, and I didn't mean to upset you.
I guess I just think about the talent, not about where someone is from. American, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, all these cultures have things that have captured my imagination, and all deserve to be celebrated, I think.
If it helps, Hamilton isn't the only thing he's made. He wrote most of the songs for Moana, and he was the composer on In The Heights and Bring It On: The Musical.
I am not part of a cultural minority, so I'm sure I can't fully understand, no matter how much I want to. But I am truly sorry that my opinion on his music offended you.
I hope you have a nice day.
I am not having a nice day, while you are at it tell Trump to give us back the lands stolen by the USA to Mexico.
For a moment this show had me saying, "Oh Mark Beaks is actually terrifying when he took the suit...dang". He is worthy of being in the villain cast for Scrooge and Co.
That zoom in his eyes when Fenton resigns was chilling! I still think he's the most pathetic of the villains, but he's more villainous in episodes about Gizmoduck. He's still goofy, dumb and an asshole, and that makes him a good antagonist, he just doesn't compare to the other antagonists.
When u realize that Fenton’s mom was also kind of picking on Scrooge, the rich white guy. Scrooge’s reaction makes this hilarious and probably my favorite joke in the episode
With Mark Beaks being a new unique character and him becoming a antagonist. I sorta wanna see a backstory with Beaks. Maybe add a bit more character to him.
I agree. But I don't want him too humanized. I think what would fit him would be having been born rich, even if not the billionaire status.
BTW, do you know Glomgold's backstory? I could see him being more sympathetic, but having learned that the only way to get ahead in the world was to be ruthless, and to embrace jealousy.
ZipplyZane I mean they showed a picture of young glomgold in comic con so they're probably planning something.
I agree that Fenton is a more interesting character here than he was in the original. Not that I dislike the original Fenton now. Both versions do strive for idealistic goals. It's just that the original Fenton does seem like a pathetic loser, but is still determined to prove himself. The new Fenton is also determined to prove himself, but has more of a drive the the old Fenton. Also, Fenton's mom, while still an overbearing parent who watches TV, isn't a lazy trailer park slob anymore.
I love that she's a cop! That's awesome.
I never saw old Fenton as a loser, sure he's a bit clumsy but he was a skilled accountant. He always felt like a stand in for the fact that Donald wasn't on the show. But with Donald on the show there's no need for that Fenton and thus there is room to take Fenton in a new direction.
For the old one, I feel like "determined" is an understatement :')
I probably meant a loser in the context of how he must've been treated. Not very many people hold bean factory workers in high regard, but yes, he was pretty clumsy, and was a stand in for Donald.
I think it also helps that he's not a stand in for Donald anymore.
Kat Kosmala, the lead in house animator on the show, said that Gizmoduck flying out of control in a 3/4 away shot with his rockets leaving smoke trails behind at the very end, was the most challenging thing she'd ever animated.
your kidding... so was she hired because of dIveRsiTy instead of talent because that's not a hard shot to animate.
@@hardwirecars it is a hard shot to animate. That's why machines are usually done in CG when they move irregularly in perspective because for volume control and draftsmanship that perfect you need to think like a machine. There are very few american animators alive now who can do it
@@CorndogMaker EVERYTHING is done in cg because its cost effective dont try that.
@@hardwirecars that's not true in this case, it was drawn traditionally in harmony, just like all character animation in Ducktales. You can even see pencil tests of it around. In Ducktales only cars and rockets are done in CG, for better volume control- like I mentioned. Solid objects moving in space are typically given to a computer to handle. Deforming characters are more life like with an artists hand behind them though. That's why John Silver (from Trasure Planet) bionics are cg but his body is animated by Glen Kene.
Gizmoduck was a unique challenge because they want him to cartoonishly deform and also be part machine!
Kat was one of the few who could do it she started as apprentice to Rick Farmiloe working on the spanish gallian in the opening in The Little Mermaid, also traditional, but that took a team and the entire 4 years of production to compete. Something like that can really buff someones draftsmanship. She animated him in the newer opening too
Man, this episode made me fall for Gizmoduck all over again! I can’t wait to see more of Fenton and his mother again in future episodes. Hell, even Mark Beaks feels like a straight up super villain! I can only imagine how much more dangerous Mark Beaks can be when he actually applies himself(or acquires technology he doesn’t fully understand)...
Now I’m even more excited for when he inevitably meets/teams-up with Darkwing Duck! OwO
Since I'm Latina I actually notice the microagressions towards the character and I didn't knew if it was just me or if he was actually being that of a jerk
I'm not even Latino (I'm Irish) and I noticed it right away. I legit had a moment like "Excuse me??" when I heard that.
JamesOhGoodie I know right? It was shocking, how he was treating him and my real question is how he could recognize a Latino, I mean they are all ducks. But yeah I really like that the show included that kind of little detail
I actually didn't catch the first one, and caught the second one -- it was so much worse when I realized what was going on.
I'm Latina as well and noticed right away. Glad it was pointed out.
I'm Latino and didn't notice at all
I kind of enjoyed it, and I did just want to see Mark Beaks get a slap in the face. It's nice to see him upgrade as a villain who you just want to laugh at later on
With Gyro's poor treatment of Fenton I'm sorta waiting for the day Gyro respects Fenton.
The scene he was unable to help anyone reminds of that scene from Incredibles where he can't stop a robber I quoted the line "He got away" when the beagle boys got away.
So far this is my favorite episode, with the HotLG now in a close second. As someone who didn't watch the original series, this entire reboot IS my introduction to everyone. AND I LOVE THEM ALL SO MUCH EVEN GYRO EVEN THOUGH HE NEEDS SOME SERIOUS SPOTLIGHT EPISODE DEVELOPMENT THAT I HOPE WE GET TO SEE SOON.
That said I am aware of earlier characters such M'Ma...and thank the stars for the changes they've given to her, she's awesome and I love her and how she actually SUPPORTS Fenton and I actually feel like she loves him in this series. >___
Ghoste Writer I was introduced to the Disney Duck Universe through this reboot, too, and I just LOVE all the work the creators are putting into this show. Like I said, I’m new to this fandom, but I’m also super dedicated to quite a few others, like Star Wars and Animaniacs (the latter of which is getting its OWN reboot soon and I’m praying that those creators are half as enthusiastic as these ones are), and I really appreciate how being fans themselves lets them tweak and add onto this world in a way that fans love.
I love the plot of gizmoduck becoming an on-demand waddle property and the exclusion of non waddle customers. Everything about the exchange when Fenton calls out Beaks is gold, specifically how Beaks becomes a lot more sinister, unsettling lighting, and the exercise of frightening power he as a tech giant holds.
Something that was pretty small but I thought was pretty clever was how they shot some of the mark beaks scenes. They were all shot in the dark, making his yellow eyes stand out more and making him look a lot more intimidating. Little stuff like that is just amazing
I absolutely love Fenton!!! I loved seeing him being the primary focus in this episode and I'm so glad he's working for Scrooge now but I hope he learns to use his suit properly and looking forward to seeing him again in the season finale ❤
Your the only person when doing theories that keeps me VERY interested on what you have to say!! I mean I listen!! I LOVE HEARING YOUR REVIEWS!!!
I didn't notice it until I saw your review, and I don't think they really mentioned it during the episode, but Fenton's mom got a good update too. She's wearing a cop badge around her neck. So she's like a detective or captain of Duckburg PD. That tells you where Fenton got his desire to help people. Sure she still loves her soaps, but the fact that she has a job of her own now and it's a job that could potentially be in conflict with Gizmoduck's efforts sounds promising. Sure the originally Mama Crackshell was a bit funnier, (as of this episode, only time will tell) but I'm really interested in how Mama Crackshell Cabera will develop as a character.
I dont think its going to be in conflict with GD. I think her job is going to be a Batman/Gordon sort of relationship :)
Leviathandk yeah but Gordon wasnt batman's parent. If they're smart, they'll do something where Fenton and his mom butt heads.
I do not like her, sorry but what is it with this "latino forced pandering"? And I am a Mexican national myself.
Mark Beaks listening to dubstep in his helicopter and that text from his lawyer about another helicopter being destroyed just shows how much of an ass he is. Didn't notice or even care that much that he called Fenton 'chico' when he first saw him. I really don't consider it that bad thing unless Mark says something like "Go back to Mexico" and Fenton says "I was hatched in America." That would be worse in my opinion.
Sapphirewingthefurrycritic I can only imagine "I was born in the states! Y YO SOY BORIQUA PARA QUE TU LO SEPAS!"
Given it's a cartoon for children, that's probably as far as they're able to go to demonstrate that Beaks is a racist.
They are called MICROagressions for a reason...
I really hate the term 'microaggressions' for a number of reasons; the word makes it sound like both trivialising AND making a mountain out of a molehill. You can just call it being rude, insensitive and racist in a slightly subtle fashion. Mark Beaks is a caricature of tech bros and obsessed with his reputation, he's not going to be outright and obviously racist, but insensitive and condescending because he considers himself better than everyone else and is used to having... whatever the DuckTales equivalent of non-white people being exclusively his subordinates.
How does listening to dubstep make him an ass? That's actually the best thing about him.
You might remember an episode of the 80s cartoon where Fenton lost the GizmoDuck suit (it got eaten by metal-eating bugs) and he honestly considered quitting since he figured "It was the suit that was super - not Fenton Crackshell" - until he saved the day at the end and realised he could be a hero WITHOUT gadgets. It's nice how that idea is now the front-and-centre of his character, it's much more humanizing when a superhero realises that it's their heart and resolve that matters rather then their costume or powers.
the moment when Beaks called Fenton "chico" had me squawking. and im not latino, i mean im not even american. what a jerk.
How? Why would it offend you?
@@TheSsbcandidates i never said it "offended" me since it's not my place to be offended. it was just the sudden realization that this cartoon character carries very real world qualities, qualities that would make me despise a real person like him too.
Things you didn't talk about that I want to mention:
- Is Fentons mother a police officer? That is pretty cool, and might lead to some interesting clashes down the line (like how Batgirl is commisoner Gordons daughter)
- the sailor moon transformation of Mark Beaks
- if brownish ducks are Latino, what is the green news reporter?
And lastly I just want to mention that I think it was genius to have Mark Beaks use microaggresive words, not only to develop his character but also to show kids that that kind of language is spoken by bad guys, I may be over analysing but this might have a positive physiological effect on young viewers, atleast I hope so.
Fenton is the most precious cinnamon roll with extra sugar and syrup. Otherwise known as perfect. He is perfect.
We're one episode review away from the BIG ONE
The funny thing when it comes to how Fenton is trying very hard to figure out gizmo ducks abilities kind of makes me think of an upgrade system in a video game.
It would probably be very helpful for him in the long run if he kept to only a few gadgets at his command for a bit until he gets used to them and then eventually unlocking more overtime.
It kind of retroactively makes me appreciate an upgrade system in a video game more if you think of it in that way, all those abilities at once from the very beginning will probably be too much to handle when you be making mistakes and trying to do everything only to lose time and time again.
I'm impressed you caught the microaggressions bit. I didn't even notice it until you brought it up.
people that are professionally offended get there rocks off on that kind of thing.
Listen bro. If you can't accept little details that add whole new layers to the overall theme of an episode of some well-written family entertainment, I have nothing for you.
@@kilimenjiro3753 How is that?
I love all the villains in Ducktales 2017, but Mark Beaks takes the cake, especially here. Mostly, it's because he's so realistic. A billionaire obsessed with revenge on another? Okay, seems a little out there. A mob boss? Yeah, never gonna hear about that in my life, Hopefully. A shadow sorceress? Well, that's all fiction. A tech celebrity who acts entitled and has little to no morals? Um... that hits a little close to home. I can't wait to see what they do with Beaks in Season 2.
This is a tremendously thoughtful review of Fenton, but my only wish is that you'd gotten a chance to discuss Huey. This one was a great highlight of his character: his optimism, helpfulness, and ability to recognize the goodness that GizmoDuck represents even when no one else did. I feel like the other siblings have had comparatively more time to have the spotlight, but this episode really showcased why I identify with him.
I loved the shades of Robocop I got from this episode. I liked getting to see Mark be a genuinely menacing, hateable character, even if only for a moment.
Gyro(to me)is so salty in the show
He is, but personally I still like his character. I _am_ waiting for the moment he starts to respect Fenton though. Gyro's in need of serious character development.
Serious
I agree than Gyro is much more salty than he was in the original show, but that kinda comes from how overprotective he is toward his inventions. I would like to see him grow beyond that at some point.
He's respecting the conventions just more than anything living. Idk, it doesn't look like a problem, because with this characteristic he develops Fenton's precautions very well. (You can reference this experience to some good teacher.) I swear they'll be the best team I have ever seen!
As KingOfElectricNinjas noted these characters have a lot to learn about each other's values, which is pretty accurate and considerable to original comics.
4:55
Fenton: I AM...
Every theater kid: Alexander Hamilton, my name is Alexander Hamilton
Also there was a nice tease to The animated might ducks when the beagle boys dress up like ducks. One of them where's wild wings trademark goalie mask. However I read the won't be any actual crossover to the team because the real life Anaheim might ducks legally own the use of wild wing as their mascot.
So the real life team are no longer owned by Disney?
I love this version of Fenton. He's just so precious and he really seems to enjoy the things that he does. The original came off, to me at least, more like he wanted to be great but was really just acting the part now that he had power. I also didn't like that he tried to steal the original suit for the sake of personal vengeance. This version actually feels like someone who was already great but just got the one thing he really needed to bring out his full potential. He is a kind hearted dork who cares about people and making the world a better place and you can see this by him being introduced as Gyro's intern rather than some random accountant that just showed up by chance.
I honestly dislike Gyro because he’s abusive to Fenton. Fenton just wants to help and this is the only episode where Mark Beaks is a true baddie. Also will you review Sky Pirates...in the Sky?
He will. He just fell behind on episodes because of a vacation.
Despite that I like Gyro, he’s hilarious
BeCuz I'm Batman I don’t see anything funny about him. Give me an example of him being hilarious
Robert Small what becomingAJ just said sums it up
becomingAJ I don’t find dry humor funny but to each his own I suppose
I like both. The og was funny and smart as well as brave. He could be a goof up when it came to life stuff, but that just makes him human. The new one is much the same, but just has a different flair. Also, loved the bit (in the episode) about how the brain is the greatest processor ever made.
Where is PC Principal when you need him? I would have loved to see him beat the crap out of Mark.
Sailor Mewni *PC Principal goes to Mark Beaks and beats the crap out of him* WATCH YOUR MICROAGGRESSIONS BRO!
It is even funnier in the Fractured But Whole game, but really the whole point of that is to make fun of the microagression concept because itself is stupid.
I love that your description of Fenton is a pretty spot-on description of Lin-Manuel Miranda himself too.
And that is the problem.
I did noticed the micro agressions and i rolled my eyes so hard, of course Beaks would talk like that and it surprises ne that people didnt noticed but maybe because im mexican i did lol
I LOVED seeing more into Fenton, he's my favorite character in the new series who came from the old series, and the improvement they gave to his mom is great too. Of course Beaks was a massive jerk and I'm glad the armor still adhered to the codeword for its activation when Fenton realized it's not the fancy robot suit, but the duck that he is who makes Gizmoduck, Gizmoduck. I can't wait to see him more now that he's officially Duckburg's new hero and how he interacts with Huey, who is obviously his biggest fan now, Dewey, and Louie.
The Waddle-Duck song was great though...
It's so good. I want a version that just says GizmoDuck now.
You actually replied to one of my comments?
Nice...
There's one thing that sums up Fenton's character arc in this episode, and why he deserves to be Gizmoduck more than Beaks: 'With great power comes great responsibility.'
And he gets his own J. Jonah Jameson as well.
Wonderfull reference
Oh! I didn’t realise it at first. But yes I know what Amigo is. Honestly I think those small touches work because of grounds everything in reality (and adds to Marks’ character)
What if Fenton is Australian and Mark called him "mate." Would that still be racist?
The new Duck Tales isn’t holding no punches. Calling out the media about fake News and Mark Breaks
It's nothing new. J. Jonah Jameson was doing the same thing. And, looky here: A "great power means great responsibility" message!
I don't think this is a commentary on so-called "fake news." The journalist is written to be unlikable, but from her perspective, a person in power armor came into a bank robbery, failed to stop it, and lit everything on fire. Then he broke the ceiling. Without knowing what the audience knows, its hard to see him as a hero at that point.
When she interviewed Scrooge, she asked hard, but valid questions the public would want to know. That's a Journalist's job. She's still kind of a bad person, because she lied to Scrooge about the purpose of the interview, however.
J. Jonah Jameson was more of a parody of tabloid news, but yeah
I consider her a bad newscaster because she always hates Scrooge and always likes his rivals. She spins things to be bad for Scrooge, save for when it would hurt him financially. It very much seems like her own biases are always in play.
Hence my reference to JJJ.
It seemed like a parody of that Jordan Peterson interview :)
Yeah, I felt the same way about Fenton in the original Ducktales but I love him here. I really liked the original Fenton & did get interested in him but really, I wanted to see Gizmoduck & could not wait for those moments, here, there's a good balance & Fenton gets more developed as a person. That's one thing that disappoints me about the pacing of the original Ducktales, I thought that if they ended up introducing Gizmoduck earlier in the series, maybe Fenton would of had more time to develop because it seems that there's just a bunch of Gizmoduck episodes crammed in at the end of the series. I have little complaints on it besides the fact that the only ones that made it to DVD would be the five parter that introduced Gizmoduck. I ended up watching the Ducktales reruns on Disney Channel as a small child so at least back then, it felt spread out but I can only imagine what it was like for the kids that caught the series as it aired. I'm only 26, I actually was born in September of 91, guess I was determined to come into the world around the same time as Darkwing Duck lol.
Oddly enough, when it comes to the original Fenton, my favorite time we see him is in Darkwing Duck. There's one, sadly only one episode where Fenton visits St. Canard & seeing Fenton & Drake play off of each other was so fantastic. That episode is available on VHS but never found its way to DVD which is kinda sad, I actually don't like Gizmoduck as much in Darkwing Duck because sometimes he can come off as kind of a jerk but then again, I think it's because they want their audience to side with Darkwing on it but really, the two act like children that don't get along towards each other. That chemistry is fun when they're not superheroes, especially that they're trying to hide their secret identities, both of which Launchpad knows but when they're supposed to be protecting the city? Really guys? Grow up.
This episode was great, I had been wanting to see them build up Fenton so badly because I typically end up more interested in the person under the mask than the superhero themselves when it comes to superhero stuff. I think my love for the show Danny Phantom helped build that up in me because the life of Danny Fenton & how he balanced being half ghost with having ghost hunting parents interested me so much. As a kid, I wasn't as deep into Darkwing Duck but I did watch it whenever I was at my grandparents' house visiting since they had Toon Disney & that was the only channel I ever watched there because I could relive my love for Ducktales but Darkwing Duck was just on, I never got too crazy into it until like my last few years of high school when I suddenly got hit by the Disney bug again, it comes & goes. I got very interested in the life of Drake Mallard & seeing him balance being a single father as well as a hero. As someone who was adopted, I feel like DW did the most heroic act anyone could do, adopt. I wasn't sure on how they could do something so interesting with Fenton & for me, making his m'ma a cop was such a crazy good move. She's still a lot like the original one in some ways but we never really got to see the original leave the couch... or wear anything besides a bathrobe & curlers until that one time when she accidentally activated the suit. I should watch that episode again, I remember getting a kick out of it & it's been at least eight years since I've seen it. Having her be a cop here is such a clever move, Fenton's heroing can get in the way of her work which can create some tension in the household, I want to see how this works out so much.
On a different note, I honestly love what they did with Mark Beaks here because I found him to be annoying in the past, I just really didn't like him in a sense to where I just didn't want to see him on screen but in this episode, they made me hate him in a good way? Like, they turned him into a legit villain that I feel like I have good reasons to hate him besides the fact he's annoying. Not sure if that makes any sense but yeah, just happy they used him like this. If anyone was supposed to be insensitive, Mark Beaks is the perfect candidate for that. He also had a interesting plot, one that's been done before but this time modernized so that it can keep the kids hooked in & I feel like he's a villain that fits in well today, someone that the kids can enjoy for being a villain. I still don't like him, he's not my brand of villain but I do like what he was there for, he helped our hero out in his path of discovery.
This episode definitely is up there with my favorites, it's pretty much something I've been waiting for ever since the reboot aired. They had two amazing episodes in a row that followed a kind of meh episode. Sorry but Day of the Only Sibling made me feel uncomfortable in many ways, mainly with Doofus & I enjoyed Doofus' relationship with Launchpad in the original series so seeing this new Doofus tells me we won't get anything like that unless he ends up joining the Junior Woodchucks & learns what it means to be a good scout but in all honesty, he should never EVER be near any other children for his entire life. I liked the Huey segments because seeing him with the Beagle Boys was sweet but I was so worried on future episodes after seeing that. Getting the answer I had been seeking ever since the beginning of the series, in it finally being revealed that Mrs. Beakly was a SHUSH agent, I'm still happy on being right on that, I knew it! Then this, getting to see Fenton actually get character development & so many other things, Huey even, I very much liked Huey in this & it makes me like him even more, he's probably my favorite triplet at this point which kinda sucks given I named my three goldfish I won at the county fair Huey, Dewey, & Louie, Huey is currently dying. Dewey & Louie keep trying to eat him but then he reminds them that he's not dead yet. I was just like, I named you after my favorite triplet & now you're dying on me, gee, thanks. That got a little off topic, here's hoping no sickos turn that story into a disturbing Ducktales fanfic. But yeah, glad they got to develop Huey a little in this & I actually want to see a Fenton/Huey episode in the future like maybe Huey wants to go to a science fair in another city & everyone has their hands full but Fenton offers to take him. Some sort of setup to see the two interact with each other that wasn't thought up last second like mine. I liked seeing Huey interact with Gizmoduck, would be kinda cool to see him do something with Fenton.
Oh gosh 😅 now I’m hyped for the next three reviews you post 😍
I feel like Mark Beaks is a true villain- no ambition, just nastiness
Most, if not all, of the secondary characters are so WELL DEVELOPED in this new Ducktales.
I know its not the main importance here, but i like how Huey is the one idolizing Gizmoduck. Like, he's the smartest of the triplets so of course he loves the tech-superhero! It also shows his intelligence with how he manages to single-handedly improve the Gizmoduck armor, and having the idea of making the user's brain the suit's processor in the first place! (can you tell how he's my favorite triplet lol)
I’m sorry, LIN PLAYS FENTON?????? HOW AM I JUST NOTICING THIS NOW WHAT
I never noticed that he was brown because he was Latino! I just thought he was a brown duck like that green newscaster lady or the falcon woman.
But you're right.
fun Easter egg in the episode one of the beagle boys is wearing the mighty duck mask while their robbing the bank.
Excellent work. I like your videos on Ducktales
"So, abut Fenton Crackshell."
"What about him?"
"Isnt his name a little awkward?"
"'Fenton Crackshell' I guess it does. Maybe we could add some alteration."
"That is better, but Cranston is still a little awkward too."
"And I guess everyone would wonder why Brian Cranston isnt paying him."
"And they would mock it more if he did. maybe... 'Fenton Crackshell Cabrera'?"
"Ooh, that is slick. And we could make him Latino!"
"Then we could get Lin Manuel Miranda!"
"No way we could get him."
"Nah, man. The Mouse bought his soul as part of his Mary Poppins contract, we can get him to do anything."
I actually liked the original Fenton. The underappreciated math wiz that gets a break when scrooge gets impressed by his instant counting skills. Anyway, both versions have their merit.
Original Fenton was better.
My favorite thing about the Gizmo duck suit is the fact it has a pen in its finger.
The original Fenton ultimately didn’t need the Gizmoduck suit either. All of his greatest achievements were as just him without the suit. So he follows a similar arch.
Yess been waiting for the review
Boy one of the biggest changes to GizmoDuck in the Reboot was not only that everyone knew that it’s Fenton, but he also runs on a battery, luckily though like the Original Series the suit if ever damaged fixes itself up well and the suit can be triggered remotely via speakers and voice mail. If only Gyro in the Reboot though gave an instruction manual like he did in the Original Series.
So they made Fenton Hispanic? Awesome! What I love about this interpretation (as far as I can tell) is that it doesn’t define him. It affects him, sure, but he’s more than just Hispanic.
I am Mexican myself, and sadly I feel it is what defines him in the name of forced diversity.
Is the introduction of science fiction really a difference between Carl Barks and Duck Tales?
I remember one with giant robots and one with tiny aliens, both which got recycled for the original Duck Tales.
I really love both encarnations of Gizmo Duck !!
Question: did the triplets have any personality in the original show?
I really can't wait to hear your thoughts on Don Karnage after the next episode.
I will for to comment on that video. xp
Thank you for your reviews
Thank YOU for watching! It's honestly a huge boost to my day when I see people enjoying this stuff haha
Can't wait for your next review
Beware the B.U.D.D.Y system or Escape from the B.U.D.D.Y system? Can you confirm it Seaniccus?
It's Beware, you could've literally searched it up.
It's definitely beware in the copy of the episode I have. What part of the world do you live in? It might be renamed in the UK or Australia. It's "Beware" in the US, but they do change them for different regions sometimes.
I live in Puerto Rico, man.
@@calebjmelendez Ya no te contesto Seaniccus.
I think it was somewhat out of place Dewey used the app as well for Waddleduck. And I will always love the 90´s version of Fenton´s mom but this was nice they kept her love for soaps XD I did like the development. I was always drawn to Fenton and not Gizmoduck as a kid. Sure you looked forward to him going super but now I appreaciate Fenton more for who he is. And they did try to drive home the point that Fenton is the one who makes Gizmoduck work. But his lack of confident made him doupt himself as soon he was out of the suit. Now I wonder if they will have his girlfriend in this show or not. I don´t want the human with bird head model again. So I hope they change her but are not afraid of making her beautiful. I don´t want the nerdy girl with glasses, that has sadly become a stereotype today.
I personally have to wonder if Mark has narcissistic personality disorder at times.
This. It has nothing to do with being racist.
I didn't dislike old Fenton and I really don't think new Fenton is that different. an improvement certainly but not a huge one, a small adjustment to an already great character.
im sad you didn't mention Mark's Sailor Moon transformation XD
speaking of superheroes i hope that in a future episode they acknowledge Donald's superhero alter-ego PK or Duck avenger as he's known in the US
Sadly I doubt it will ever happen.
I like the new Fenton/Gizmoduck too. Incidentally, anyone else her a fan of BIG GUY AND RUSTY?
I'm not Latino but when Mark Beaks said 'Chico' and 'amigo' I was like: "... what? Mark. Dude. Seriously?" Unfortunately I didn't catch on to how bad that actually was until I watched your video. :( But they do address the issue, kind of, which is good. I also really love Fenton, and his mother. :D Hope they show up a lot more, even if it's not a Gizmoduck episode. I loved it when Fenton's mother saved Huey in that one scene. Like, damn she a ninja lol. Loved Huey too, all the hero worship, and helping Donald at the bank lol.
I am Mexican myself, a Mexican national and I am not a Latino, I am a Latin American as I am a native hispanic speaker in a Latin region of the American continent and in no way whatsoever I felt offended by the expressions done by the Mark Beaks character,
Since I'm from Latin America i didn't know Mark actually addresses Fenton like that until i noticed the subtitles (i had them on cause it's kinda hard to understand what Donald is saying)
great review
Fenton in the old didnt need the gizmosuit either he proved that on the alien planet for one.
Now I want
Gizmoduck v Darkwing Duck
I loved the original n the new Gizmo Duck both in and out of costume. He makes me laugh and is very relatable to some of us fans hahaha. Btw I wonder what his girlfriend will look like in the New series?
Lowell Lucas Jr.
He has a girlfriend?
@@leohino9211 in the original series, yes! And quite the hotty
Lowell Lucas Jr.
Oh my. What was her name?
@@leohino9211 Gandra Dee! And she's super hot
Lowell Lucas Jr.
Keep it in your pants. She's a cartoon duck.
You should try to do a review on Gyro Gearloose; his character seems to be more rasher than his original and comic book counterparts.
I'll probably do more character profiles in the break between seasons -- there's a lot of them to do!
Wasn't he harsh in his early Carl barks comics
Not really...he was a bit prideful of his inventions, though.
How excited are you for the season one final of Ducktales?
Alison Pienkosz SO MUCH ❤❤❤❤
Honestly I didn't even remember the original Fenton. I remembered Gizmoduck but Fenton himself always looked like a relative of Donald to me. He was so forgettable and boring. The new Fenton is a huge step forward. Having been an unpaid intern myself, I could relate to him being always pushed around and never be acknowledged by superiors. But he still keeps working hard, believing in every ridiculous invention and even Scrooge acknowledges that he will have his great success someday and just needs the right idea. Even if he is just a minor character, it's quite fascinating to see him and Gyro interacting. He is what Gyro was before he became successful: an ambitious dreamer who wants to use his talent and intelligence for the benefit of the world. Gyro is already a successful inventor who has been around for long enough to become arrogant, short-tempered and very impatient. Though he still keeps his good nature and has great affections for his inventions just like Fenton, he lost the naive and idealistic side. It's that kind of phenomenon you see a lot in real life: having the idealistic, naive and ambitious trainee and the arrogant, bitter and angry job veteran.
I like how you said in Mark Beaks's first episode that he wasn't really a villain. I think this episode firmly cements his status as one, though he's more of a villain to Gizmoduck than to Scrooge.
Also, I didn't notice Mark Beaks's digs at Fenton's Latino heritage until I was on TV Tropes and saw the trope "Politically Incorrect Villain". I feel like to a lot of people... or at least, a lot of white people, or at least non-Latino people, Beaks calling Fenton "cinco" and "amigo" in a condescending manner would have gone completely over their heads. I almost feel bad for not picking up on it, or at least, not viewing them as they were intended to be viewed as. :(
How am I Hispanic and it still flew over my head ?
I want gizmo duck and dark wing duck to battle it out
I love Mark Beaks as a villain
Fenton is voiced by Lin manuel Miranda- *ALEXANDER HAMILQUACK
Dear Lord no.
Fenton ain’t throwing away his shot
Fenton's mother looks like a female police detective
So in this I guess I can say that Fenton Crackshell is not going to throw at his shot. (See if anyone can get the reference)
