Read the creator notes on the episode- funny thing, they deliberately searched the internet just in case there was a huge Doofus fanbase who'd be upset by the changes, and found literally three pieces of fanart. They quite deliberately used a character no one cares about as the basis for the episode.
The irony is that the reboot version of doofus isn't much different from the 80s version. In the 80s series episode titled "superdoo" doofus finds an extraterrestrial diamond which gave him incredible superpowers but due to those powers he becomes selfish and arrogant and if it wasn't for his friends he would become even more selfish.The difference between this doofus and the old one is the circumstances.
Well that and the possible fact that he's not a Junior Woodchuck like in the original show. And I gotta admit, it's kind of weird seeing Doofus without his hat.
Yeah, basically this version of Doofus is one who seemed to have been as lovable and affable as the original until he got his grandmother's fortune, and with absolutely nothing to stop him doing what he wants he spirals into a monster that doesn't care what anyone thinks of him and never takes no for an answer. On top of being like the original having gone down a bad road, he's pretty clearly presented as a foil to Louie; if he got his dreams of wealth and success without any effort and without his brothers to share it with. (also compare Gladstone Gander, whose luck makes his life nearly effortless and results in every one of his other skills stunted to nearly nothing)
Being an only child myself I really related to Webby. It's very lonely and at least for me I can be desperate to be with someone for those with siblings people like me would die for a sibling so be thankful for them :)
it's not possible to be happy about the sibling(s) you have/don't have. if you don't have any siblings, like you, you're lonely. if you do (like me, i have 2 brothers, both older than me) you almost always need to agree with them to do most fun things, and if that ever ends up happenening, at that point you'll probably be too annoyed with them to let them have the relief that you will all finally do something instead of arguing about it.
Truthfully, the Dewey Dew-night bit completely took me by surprise. Dewey basically wants to be Stephen Colbert/Conan O'Brien/Jimmy Fallon/Jimmy Kimmel/Jay Leno/David Letterman/Johnny Carson, etc. - it's definitely different!

Personally, I never liked Doofus. He was annoying in the original cartoon, and he is annoying in the new cartoon. I do hope we get more episodes exploring the beagle boys and their family dynamic.
And they still are. As we saw in this particular episode, they still work best when they work together. But as it is the case in real life - siblings, not even twins or triplets, are not always the same and have distinct personalities, some more than others, but still, they are different people with different ideas, different hobbies. Only because pervious Disney properties that featured Huey, Dewey, and Louie didn't pay any tribute to it, besides Quackpack, does not mean that no future one ever should.

I LOVE how they made Dewey's fantasy show a REAL 5 short episode XD This episode was probably the one that made me kinda cringe from the oddness and creepiness the most but I still loved the stories and the brothers getting back together. Plus Webby basically telling them not to split up because she doesn't want to lose her best friends.
If Any one is a fan of 2017 Ducktales I highly recommend that you read "Ducktales: solving mysteries and rewrite history" by rob renzeti and Rachael vine. It is an autobiographic book about Scrooge McDuck(with fact checked by huey,Dewey, Louie and webby) based on the 2017 Ducktale reboot. It is a fantastic book that gives you more details about scrooge's adventures, the city of duckburg, as well as answers to the question about the 2017 reboot. The storytelling is amazing and it is almost as if you are directly talking to the characters.
I actually liked this more than the previous episode. Though i still want to see the two other triplets in their scout gear. Not all scouts are the superscout (real scouting jargong for a scout which takes scouting a bit to serious) and I'd love to see the other two represent other types of scouts from real-life. But back to the episode. I loved that they eventually had to come back and rely on one another.
sasamichan The only creative change that i liked was what they did with Daisy's design and character, but even then, it wasn't that great either. And it's not like they gave the triplets much distinct personalities. They just changed them from "generic children" to "generic 90's teenagers".

My hope is that they will have Doofus grow and become a good guy. If I were writing I'd have him lose his money, and meet Launchpad and he becomes his mentor and hero. Launchpad using the lesson he learned from Darkwing Duck teaches Doofus morals and what it means to be a true friend.
I'm still on the fence with how the reimagined Doofus. Sure, he didn't have much of a back story in the old show. All we knew about him was that he was the nephew's chubby friend who's kinda nerdy, loves to eat, and is a huge fanboy of Launchpad. If anything, he's probably a duck version of Fanboy from 'Freakazoid'. (Though, not as funny) Here, he's basically, a rich kid who became corrupted by his family's wealth. That would've been an interesting plot for him to have in the original show, but I kinda prefer Doofus as their best friend. Maybe he could go through a character arc where he overcomes his corruption, and becomes a good kid in the end, and I'd be fine with that instead of him being a chubby version of Mark Beaks. Other than that, you make an excellent point on how the the nephews are now more distinct from one another, and they do a great job of that. Also, is Burger suppose to be the skinny Beagle Boy now?
Yeah I feel a lot of the reimagined characters are very flat and derivative. Goldie is the femme fatale version of the main character. Dofus is the creepy spoiled rich kid. Gyro is the mad genius. Their old versions were actually morenfleshed out. I wished they'd had added these aspects to the characters but still kept more of the original characterization thus adding depth to the characters instead of reducing it.
I was a bit iffy toward Gyro's obsessiveness, and bitterness at first, but it's grown on me, and I can see why ha's so protective of his inventions compared to the original. Especially after Fenton causes problems for him. However, when Fenton proves his worth as Gizmoduck, Gyro soon warms up to him. So there's that.
Marc Baker his parents did say he used be a good kid but getting the inheritance from his aunt(I think) corrupted him. I think it’s interesting. I don’t know what he was like in the original but just remember they’re allowed to reshape personalities of old characters.
The real stand-out thing from this episode for me is the fact that Doofus Drake is NOTHING like his original 1987 counterpart... and apparently they did this because Doofus was the only character from the original show the showrunner legitimately hated. I guess he wanted to make sure everyone hated Doofus as much as he did?

The episode had it moments. Love all the easter eggs including the Duckberg version of Voltron. Plus making Dufus into a creepy anti-Louie works for me. And then there is the big easter egg in the form of that sentry bot. DT-87. DT-87. DuckTales-87!

3:28 It’s nice that we saw Burger speak for the first time in this episode, though merely in small sentences. Some episode in the future should give him a backstory for why he’s so skinny, only speaks small sentences and grunts, and why he’s not so gluttonous. Of all times we saw the Beagle Boys in the Reboot, we’re still yet to see Bankjob, Babyface, Bugle, and the last of the 4 Main Beagle Boys being Baggy (I would not be surprised if he’s actually smart in the Reboot).
I like how it's implied that Doofus Used to be closer to his original show's depiction before the money and power went to his head. But yeah this is probably the worst episode so far, only one I skipped when catching my friend up.
I can’t believe they made Doofus Drake SO EVIL in the DuckTales Reboot, from a kind hearted caring but clumsy Duck who looks up to the other characters, to the 3rd Richest Duck in the World that only cares about himself.
Magica and Toad Di Lu weren’t the only DuckTales villains missing from the Intro after all. There’s even Doofus and those from later episodes. Come Season 2 they might update Doofus into the intro along with other villains of the 2nd season.

Doofus is like a strange mixture of Melvin Presley from Captain Underpants, Vicky from FOP, Aph Russia (Ivan), and Chester Mcbadbad from FOP. His parents remind me of Vicky’s parents mixed with the parents from the Disasterous Life of Saiki K. Needless to say, he gives me some major creeps. I hope the writers decide take away all his money and gradually make him a more relatable and likeable character, the Modern Archie comics did with Jughead.
I hate what they did to Doofus. Sure in the old series he was the pointless "fat kid" trope, but he didn't need to be turned into a crazy villain in the new series.

I enjoyed this one cuz it was a nice contrast episode from all the adventuring and expeditions, focusing a little more on relationship building.

The creation of Donald duck's nephews were inspired from Mickey's two nephews, Morty and Ferdie Fieldmouse.
I can’t believe they made Doofus Drake SO EVIL in the DuckTales Reboot, from a kind hearted caring but clumsy Duck who looks up to the other characters, to the 3rd Richest Duck in the World that only cares about himself.
Magica and Toad Di Lu weren’t the only DuckTales villains missing from the Intro after all. There’s even Doofus and those from later episodes. Come Season 2 they might update Doofus into the intro along with other villains of the 2nd season.

his parents did say he used be a good kid but getting the inheritance from his aunt(I think) corrupted him. I think it’s interesting. I don’t know what he was like in the original but just remember they’re allowed to reshape personalities of old characters.
I can tell Doofus is meant to parallel Louie. Does anyone know what a archetype is because for some reason someone called Goldie that when she’s only appeared once

I hated Doofus in the original. This episode made good use of him.

I really liked the overall setup with the nephews having their own story/segment, only for all of them to eventually connect together. Louie's segment has to be my personal favorite: partly because he's my favorite of the triplets in this version, and since this portrayal of Doofus was fascinating, albeit creepy.
You think they might make another episode with this setup, but with other characters? Like maybe Scrooge, Mrs. Beakley, and Donald demonstrating how they would run their home(s)?

Doofus is like a strange mixture of Melvin Presley from Captain Underpants, Vicky from FOP, Aph Russia (Ivan), and Chester Mcbadbad from FOP. His parents remind me of Vicky’s parents mixed with the parents from the Disasterous Life of Saiki K. Needless to say, he gives me some major creeps.
I hope the writers decide take away all his money and gradually make him a more relatable and likeable character, the Modern Archie comics did with Jughead.
