I like this change they made to Fenton. He's got an energy and charm about him that is just so cute to watch. The original Fenton was a good guy but he always felt like he was pretending when he was in costume. There's no doubt he was a hero but there was a slight lack of passion for his actions. I buy the new Fentons transition from civilian to hero.
And they openly make Fenton a Latino duck, which isn't shown so much in this episode but in "Who is Gizmoduck?" That's a bit of diversity that wasn't necessary but a welcome addition.
yes Keith did a near flawless impression of Dan's Megavolt voice that I didnt really notice it wasnt him until I saw the credits. hats off to that man. hopefully if they do a spin off they keep Keith as the character.
I really like how the show not only introduces Darkwing Duck and Gizmoduck into the new universe, but it also establishes both Launchpad’s admiration for DW as well as bond and friendship
I never really watched Darkwing Duck, but I'm still glad that they got Jim Cummings to do it. And I also noticed that the DOB on Launchpad's driver's license was the date that the original Ducktales series first premiered.
Another thing I liked about this episode is that it hinted at the possibility that Mark Beaks is actually going to become a serious threat. I'm hoping that he'll some kind of development similar to Ludo & Meteora from Star VS (or Quackerjack from the Darkwing Duck sequel comics) where they take a joke villain and make him a powerful opponent not to be messed with.
Those comics destroyed Quackerjacks character he's supposed to be a dangerously goofy psycho who talk's to toy's and they give him a girl friend and take him seriously when he was always a major threat just a really silly one
@@roberthosford1658 Actually, Tad Stones intended for Quackerjack to be a Toyman/Joker hybrid. The cartoon made him more of a Toyman/Harley Quinn hybrid.
I found this episode interesting for the dynamics between three similar on the surface characters; Gyro Gearloose, Fenton Crackshell(-Cabrerra) and Mark Beaks. They're all highly intelligent nerds with questionable social skills, sure, but we see different takes on it; Fenton is quite possibly more intelligent than Gyro, but his efforts are bumbling and clumsy because he's overenthusiastic and doesn't think things through, while the Gyro we see introduced clearly has had time to learn from his failures and is currently putting effort into testing his inventions to make sure they work. Kind of a recurring dynamic in this show; the naive, enthusiastic newcomer paired with the cynical, experienced veteran. (and it says something that Fenton makes Gyro look wise) And on the other hand, Mark Beaks shares many qualities with both of them; he's not as technically apt, but still adept with technology and enthusiastic for it as an opportunity for profit, and more social, his entire persona revolving around being seen as a quirky genius and innovator- but of course, all his actual creations are fabricated or stolen, because the end result doesn't matter as long as he makes money and grows his reputation. But like Fenton, this leads him to not think things through; he copies an invention that is known to have catastrophic issues, thinking more about impressing people than the consequences. But like Gyro, he has a more practical side; dangerously so, given how he clearly plans to obtain the Gizmoduck suit. (which seems like a hint that he's preparing to descend into full villain status rather than mere annoyance)
I'm really curious to see exactly how far Mark Beaks will go in obtaining the GizmoDuck suit, especially since so far he hasn't done anything all that villainous... although in his introductory ep, there was that one moment where Beaks had an almost breakdown about being served his 2:15 coffee at 2:14, suggesting that there really is something dark beneath his cheery surface.
Given the structure of the episode, there's a case to be made that Fenton becoming Gizmoduck was the direct result of seeing the kind of hero Launchpad had the courage to be. By emulating a hero, Launchpad created a hero.
Everything about this episode was pure and beautiful and I cannot wait to see if we get a visit from "Darkwing Duck" himself! Or at least Jim Starling the actor

The first two episodes are on Disney’s youtube channel, they are excellent. Then watch the rest. A major arc in the series (and this isn’t a spoiler because it starts in the first episode) is about figuring out the past of Della, the triplets mother!
I think we are up to episode 11 now, if you include last night's episode featuring Darkwing Duck. So there have been several episodes prior to this show moving from Disney XD to the Disney Channel! I hope that helps!
Hyperventilating. Your synopsis was perfect and as a voice actor fan-girl. Squeeeeee!!! I’m so so happy. And go for you Beck Bennett for staying true to the Launchpad we love and adore.
I *just* heard about this before I got the notification for this video. It’s a shame that Darkwing Duck is just a TV character in this series, but if it raises interest in the character for a younger audience, it may lead to a Darkwing reboot further down the line
I have another video on that which should have just gone up too, haha i wouldn't count it out. I don't expect a full reboot to be greenlit, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's in more episodes. Frank really loves DW and probably has bigger plans for the character.
We see a few hints that the in-universe Drake Mallard clearly has the personality, especially the willingness to pick up and keep rolling no matter how badly he embarrasses (and injures) himself, not to mention the original show has him an already experienced but still goofy crimefighter before he adopts Gosalyn. He seems set up for a later appearance, likely with his biggest fan Launchpad involved, and possibly becoming the hero he used to play.
Well then he wouldn't be Drake Mallard, and also it would be a total rippoff of the Batman the animated series episode "Beware the Grey ghost". In fact what they have said about the show thus far already sounds a lot like Beware the Grey Ghost.
I'm surprised you or the comments didn't bring up that B.U.D.D.Y. is voiced by Corey Burton. Who's famous for voicing Brainiac in the DCAU. There's no way that is a coincidence.
DW just a TV-show? That`s just cruel. I hoped for more. :( Also, this episode remided me of an old TaleSpin episode where Baloo had to race robo-pilots to see who is the best.
It’d be cool if in an episode, Launchpad gets to meet Jim Starling on-set of a new Darkwing Duck tv show, and a bunch of crazy stuff happens within the episode, and Launchpad somehow earns a role on the Darkwing Duck show as sidekick :p
6:50 I guess everyone will know Fenton as Gizmoduck in the Reboot, unlike the Original DuckTales where only Scrooge and Fenton’s mother knew of it, who even were of good instance to him.
I think everybody missed the fact that this episode is also a Talespin tribute. This is pretty much the same plot as From Here To Machinery from Talesspin. It's an episode about a robot pilot taking over real pilots, and Baloo racing it to prove he's better. Baloo loses the race, and gets replaced. Sound familiar? Hell, Scrooge is this episode's Shere Khan, if less sinister.
I'm a little bummed out that Darkwing seems to be just a creation of fiction in the show as opposed to an actual hero in St. Canard. But hey, maybe it's a 'based on a real story' thing, but probably not. All I know is bringing back the original voice actors, not replacing them. And the fact that Darkwing didn't go all edgelord Batman clone, you don't know HOW many points that earned from me (Seriously, he's not based on Batman, he's based on the older pulp comic heroes. Why do people forget they exist?). But the BEST part of this episode, even greater than Gizmoduck, is that we once again see the inner Mark Beaks, peeling away this numbskull who is all about online presence. Which he is, but there is someone much darker at his core. We saw it before with his breakdown over the coffee, and now we've seen it again.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the ending where we got: "Gizmo Duck?......I must Have Him" From Mark Beaks Signifying that he's Now a Full frontal Villain rather then a Neutral Nuisance
St.Canard still exist in this universe so it's possible that i one episode they go to the city, and even find Jim Cummings as Darkwing Duck recording a episode of the show. edit: lol i just notice the S.H.U.S.H. refencerence in the Darkwing Duck clip.
wait wait wait... hold up. Lin Manual Miranda played Gizmo Duck and Gyro's assstant? As in Moana Lin Manual Miranda? As in in the heights Lin Manual Miranda? AS IN HAMILTON LIN MANUAL MIRANDA!? Tell me i did not mishear you say that and type this in for no reason.
I loved this episode, the race itself showed Launchpad’s determination, and when he goes to save the day it feels triumphant somehow. Also it was my introduction to Gizmoduck
I noticed in the episode and probably in the whole show in general the suit does all the work where is in the original DuckTales gizmoduck was the one controlling suit even though he didn't know all its functions and what did what he was the one ultimately in control. But in the new suit the suit as an artificial intelligence and Gizmo. Is just a passenger along for the ride.
This felt the most like a old Ducktales episode. Normaly the paching is pretty quick and the episode is over in what feels like a short amount of time but this one felt longer and I am happy about it. Now Fenton was my Peter Parker/Spider-Man before I ever laid eyes on Spider-man and I can relate to Fenton a lot. Being clumsy, getting ahead of myself even thought I am cunning in some aspects I usually don´t get to use my strong points. So seeing Fenton a underdog becoming a hero was really important to me when I was a kid. And I think his and Lauchpads realtionship works really well here and yes I do love how he saves Gizmoduck too. Becuse look at Gizmoducks very first episode. He is not succesful, he is really bad and makes a lot of misstakes but makes small victories. Now I am not sure about the AI suit but I let them decide what they will do with it. On the note of Darkwing Duck I have been waiting to see this episode in my language Swedish and I hoped they whould get the old voice back and we did. He was back but this time he made his voice more similar to Jim Cummings rather uniqe way of speaking. In the Darkwing Duck show the Swedish voiced sounded more normal and young.
After watching this episode, it reminds me of an episode from the original Ducktales series Season 1:9 entitled "Armstrong".. In the beginning of the episode, Scrooge and the boys are on a train that gets stopped by rocks falling onto the pathway of the tracks. Launch Pad comes to help out by moving the rocks. Unfortunately, he wasn't strong enough. Gyro shows up and initially introduces Armstrong, Gyro's newest addition robot to assist. He moves the rocks quickly and over time, the family takes a strong liking to Armstrong. A sequence after that Launch Pad races against Armstrong in a plane race only to be defeated by a crash. (Might I add, Launch Pad was flying pretty good. I believe that he was blinded by a smoke screen). During the middle of the episode, Scrooge gives his entire staff the day off and has Armstrong helping around this office to improve efficiency. It's during this moment, Armstrong figures out the combination to Scrooge's safe where he starts counting Scrooge's money. Armstong turns bad. Scrooge and eventually Gyro are captured and the two are prisoners in Gyro's place. Eventually, Launch Pad and the boys stop Armstrong. There are so many reference from "Beware of the B.U.D.D.Y. System" to " Armstrong. The robot turning evil. Man against Machine.Scrooge wanting to invest into this new technology. Launch Pad not taking a liking to the robot and feeling the sense of being replaced. Both are pretty good episodes. I prefer "Armstong" better. I've always enjoyed Launch Pad centric episodes. Launch Pad was one of my favorite characters from the original series. In here, not so much.
I liked old ducktales and drakwing duck show, but as italian i hope that our disney autors who work at new DT will bring in this universe the Duck Avangers (Paperinik)
Also, I do love Dewey's reaction to the Darkwing Duck show. Just another idiot who fails to respect the greatness and groundwork of practical effects over digital. Especially when digital effects either weren't good or didn't exist yet! And it just occured to me, this is a lot like an episode of TaleSpin. At least at first.
I actually really like this new Fenton Crackshell Cabrera(hope I spelled that right). He pays enough respect to the classic Fenton, while still coming off as his own charcter. Also I like that this episode helps establish a bond and kinship with Launchpad and Fenton, something that was emphasized when Gizmoduck cameoed on Darkwing Duck. And now the new villain(?) Mark Beaks might actually have a new MO in trying to acquire Gizmoduck or replicate him and his abilities to some capacity... I'm looking forward to both Fenton Crackshell and Gizmoduck in future episodes. :D
So I have a theory on how Darkwing will get introduced and how it will lead to a spinoff with Launchpad leaving Ducktales for that show. In season 2 we will get an episode where Magica De Spell discovers a spell or some mystical item that allows her to bring characters from paintings or other media to the real world. And she will bring to life... all of Darkwing's villians. Over the course of the episode the McDuck/Duck family will battle these villains until Launchpad inspires them, after repeatedly telling them how DW would defeat them, to use the magical item to bring Darkwing, Gosalyn, and all DW's heroic supporting characters to the real world. Darkwing will defeat Magica but his villains will escape. This will lead S.H.U.S.H. to decide to hire Darkwing to protect St. Canard (because of course the villains will gravitate to their old stomping ground from the show) and Launchpad will be assigned to help DW and Gosalyn get used to being in this new world. THus the rebooted Darkwing Duck will see Launchpad in a new role, as the guide for Darkwing and his daughter in the new world they find themselves in, teaching them about technology and such. As for Ducktales... well... they will be in need of a pilot and maybe a certain pilot who is on the moon might become available...
Again it's funny because Darkwing and Gizmo are hated where I live in Denmark which is known for being one of the countries with the biggest duck fan bases in the world. But I have already talked all about that in another one of your comment sections. Also people really hated how Gyro Gearloose was handled in this episode but I think that's enough for one comment.
3:16 Man vs Machine. This reminds me of Armstrong from the Original DuckTales, who Launchpad competed against as well in a Flying Contest. Atleast David Tennant unlike Alan Young is aware that he’s not voicing a human, and that Duckburg is without human residents. I say that based on a line Scrooge said in the Original DuckTales episode I’m referring to: ruclips.net/video/sgxJfovpOss/видео.html
This is kinda like the comic crash course we’re Scrooge and rockerduck are competing on who can make the safest car. So gyro makes a car with so many buttons he has to call in with a radio later on in the race. Soon launch pad, Scrooge, rocker duck, and rocker ducks driver are in the race and they have to make it through the most dangerous road in town. Once launch pad and Scrooge finish they find out even in mass production each car would cost1/4 of his money bin. So it’s not exactly like the episode but they both share a lot of similarities.
Ok. No one is seeming to talk about this. So I will. This episode *also* had a nod to a season 1 TaleSpin adventure. In it, Baloo challenges these new line of robotic pilots against the “real deal.” Just like in this episode, *SPOILER ALERT* Baloo loses. But ends up saving the day from the robot. The episode is called “From Here to Machinery”. I didn’t get to see the original Ducktales or Darkwing Duck growing up. But I know TaleSpin
Hey Seaniccus great review,I also really like this episode. Another thing I believe that made it really great was thar not only did he give launchpad is own episode and brought in the origin story to gizmo duck but it also gives a little more attention to Gyro as a character. I thought he was funny and it quirky and I really hope to see more episodes and I can also see him being another rival for Mark Beaks. Since Mark is not only a billionaire but a “inventor” I can see him going against Gyro, also I saw this episode is kind of a starting point for Mark Beaks to become a little bit more of a villain. Because in his first episode The infernal internship of Mark peaks he doesn't come off too much as a traditional villain per say he’s just a jerk and to be specific; he is a manipulative poser who wants to be in the spotlight which of makes him kind of a jackass but at the same time he’s not Intimidating. Yet with that last scene with him in this episode kind of makes me think that, this guys going to get an upgrade LOL which makes me pretty excited to what’s going to come next with Mark Beaks and his arc to get Gizmoduck. I think with that kind a story line Gyro and Fenton are gonna be used a bit more which I’m excited to see because they’ve become very interesting to me. 😃
Has anyone else been thinking that this episode is a remake on an Tailspin episode? When every pilot get changed out for robots because they fly safer, but cant take itself out from dangerous situations in the end.
Kind of late, but I really enjoyed how Launchpad going up against the B. U. D. D. Y. system very much mirror's how he goes up against Armstrong in the original DuckTales, including the fact that he did it because of his own insecurities and fear of losing his job.
As a Mexican, I don't see the point of making Fenton latino, but anyways, this new version of Fenton/Gizmododuck is really awesome!! I hope we can see more of Darkwing Duck in the future!
Dude, what if Mark Beaks obsession to get Gizmoduck makes him recruit Jim Starling to bring Darkwing to life in the real world as a foil to Gizmoduck? That would be so awesome!
This was a good episode... for once... Some episodes are pretty good but the show has been kind of hit and miss so far. Launchpad is always a highlight though so I really liked this one and Mark Beaks is one of the better addition to the lore too. I'm just glad this episode had a real sense of danger something that The spear of Selene and Mystery of Mcduck Manor really lacked. I mean come on Scrooge seems to be always in control of every situation in this show and his flaws are played for laughs but never put him in real danger like they did in the classic Duck comics half of the show seems to be about how amazing he and Donald are, they never seem to really struggle. I would have a lot to say about "The Spear of Selene" which made me question watching the show further. I also have a hard time with Dewey (or the blue one not sure about his name) who seem to switch personnality when the plot needs it he just do not feel like a well defined character. Anyway thanks for the video it made me watch this episode and I'm glad I did it was a good one! Stay fresh.
4:00 YROO XRKSVI! GIRZMTOV! ... I remember how many people were legit angry to see that Darkwing Duck was "just a TV show" in the new DuckTales, and how Frank Angones was all coy about it, teasing the angry fans for assuming that's all Darkwing Duck will be in this reboot. Also, Gyro REALLY is an asshole in this reboot, even if he was justified in firing Fenton for posting his secret information online. And how many of us legit thought we'd see the return of the Headless Man-Horse? The fact that he's Gyro's intern means he's a semi-recurring character now, too. :P
1:42 It's also kind of a really boring dealbreaker. I really hope we will get to see the real Darkwing duck later because out of him and gizmoduck, DW is the intresting one.
I was waiting for a paperinik, not a darkwing duck or a gizmo duck, never understood the cult of gizmo and darkwing, nor why they didn't took paperinik.
It was perfect to make Darkwing Duck a tv show he and scrooge would have nothing to do with each other one fights crime the other is selfish and wants treasure.
I like this change they made to Fenton. He's got an energy and charm about him that is just so cute to watch. Wish that he said "I am not throwing away my shot" once during the show
🎶Alexander Hamilton, my name is Alexander Hamilton, there's a million things I haven't done, just you wait, just you wait🎶
This is how I discovered him.
How could you not mention the greatest surprise of the episode: The return of the Headless Man-Horse?!
Tim O'Connor MAN Horse?
It's a horse who walks like a man. With no head. Except he got a new head.
Tim O'Connor That horse was actually brought back originally in the comic books before actually make its way back on the Cartoon.
Nostalgia Critic got his wish
The fact that they had the original cast members to voice Megavolt and DW himself was icing on the cake.
That wasn't Dan Castellaneta voicing Megavolt. It was Keith Ferguson. They did, however, get Michael Bell back to voice Quackerjack.
Well he sounded convincing. That's all that counts.

Nice inclusion of Darkwing Duck, funny introduction to Lin Manuel's character and some development Launchpad. I actually enjoyed this episode.
Am I the only one getting a serious "Iron Man" vibe off the new Gizmoduck design?
I am too.
I'm really sure Gizmoduck has always been a duck version of Ironman.
InoMercy when he was first introduced he was more a parody of RoboCop than Iron Man.
its because Robocop was more in the public consciousness than Ironman was at the time, though this does give a heavier Ironman vibe.

I agree.
The premise of Driver/Pilot-vs-Machine Driver/Pilot harkens back to a Talepsin episode, too.

DuckTales creator Frank Angones said there's more to Darkwing Duck than just being a TV show. It also helps that he's a recurring character too :)
There was an episode in the first season of the original DuckTales, and Launchpad challenged a robot named Armstrong, for the same title.
Yeah, especially since LP was his full-time sidekick, who would fly the Thunderquack!!
I really have to say, it works for Launchpad's arc and is a neat spin on how DW affects his life. I like the concept.

Im not sure about that, its more of a re-tooling of the Launchpad vs Armstrong episode from the original Ducktales.
Favorite episode so far, right up there with the Great Dime Chase 👏👏👏
I loved this episode so much mainly because Lin-Manuel Miranda was in it. He is amazing
This reminds me of an episode in the old series where launch pad again is afraid of losing his job to robots
Yep, Armstrong series! And in this one he actually defeated lightbulb... I guess?
I'm surprised you didn't mention the ending where we got: "Gizmo Duck?......I must Have Him" From Mark Beaks Signifying that he's Now a Full frontal Villain rather then a Neutral Nuisance
i saw the Ep and it was good.
Looking forward to see Darkwing Duck in Duck Tales universe not just on the TV that Lanchpad was watching.
Nope that's totally him.
i thought i heard it wrong too,
after a quick google search i was shook....
It really is him indeed ;-)
I was the opposite, I didn't know who he was until this episode.
My favorite episode double o duck better be remade
Yes please!
This was my fave episode so far!
the creators have let us know, darkwing is not finished with this universe
It was great seeing Gizmoduck! It was odd seeing Fenton with brown feathers, but I can get used to it. As for DW....
Loved seeing him too!
Also the race against a robot plot line has been doe before, Baloo races a robot in a classic episode of Tail Spin.
Anyone else reminded of the old TaleSpin episode 'From Here to Machinery' where Baloo has to race a robot pilot so that he can keep his job?
This episode feels like an homage to that Tale Spin episode where Baloo had to race a robot who was gonna take over all the pilots jobs.
This is the only episode I actually liked, mostly because of Darkwing's cameo and the reintroduction of GizmoDuck.
Every episode is juicy!
This episode reminded me of the original episode Armstrong
look at the guy driving the fancy car driving around with his massive CRASH!
Darkwing duck was amazing man
I'd wonder if they'll meet Darkwing Duck in Person like Batman meeting his hero the Gray Ghost?
It’s unfortunate that a character in a ‘kids’ show has more dimensions than any character in SAO
What's that?
The Darkwing Duck Cartoon exists in universe in the original show as well.
The terror that flaps in the night
Did y'all make me cry .FYI I'm not being sarcastic .
DuckTales is a great reboot.
i like that they didn't forget about lil bulb
This made me so happy
Stay fresh.
Gizmo duck's transformation gave me super sentai vibes
4:00
YROO XRKSVI! GIRZMTOV!
This episode was obviously based on the TaleSpin episode "From Here to Machinery"
I really liked this episode for one reason: Lin Manuel Miranda voiced Fenton aka Gizmoduck
1:42 It's also kind of a really boring dealbreaker. I really hope we will get to see the real Darkwing duck later because out of him and gizmoduck, DW is the intresting one.
AHHHH Beware of the Buddy System has Hamiltons voice as Gizmoduck
Did anyone else realize that the buddy robot has the same voice as the Disneyland tram system?
Crackshell a latino american duck hero
Impressive
I was waiting for a paperinik, not a darkwing duck or a gizmo duck, never understood the cult of gizmo and darkwing, nor why they didn't took paperinik.
So a pilot challenges a robot to a race to prove he's not obsolete? Are we sure Launchpad didn't grow up watching "TaleSpin" as well? ;)
You just got 600 likes.
You're welcome.
Also, great review!!
DUCKTALES WOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!
Disney Darkwing Duck is a series on RUclips on my channel it’s not going to be a tv show
Please do the gizmoduck one ASAP PLEASE
It was perfect to make Darkwing Duck a tv show he and scrooge would have nothing to do with each other one fights crime the other is selfish and wants treasure.
could you do a rebooting gizmo/darkwing episode?
Let’s get DANGEROUS!😈
Anyone here after "The Duck Knight Rises"?
Eyyy!! Good vid!
dude how can you not mention that this is the same plot as the TaleSpin episode "From Here to Machinery"?
NotRoxanne is back. Does she have a canon name?
