Really appreciate the positive results from you guys. I had an extremely bad drift and wasn't finding out how to fix it until I found this simple trick.
Note that from time to time the drift goes back, and to fix it just open up the controller again and play with the sensors as I did.
    Thanks, Guys! :)

My 17 year old son was asking me to replace his controller, because of that issue. We had tried a cleaning, using compressed air, which did not change anything. When I found your video, he tried your trick and everything came back to normal instantly. It was jaw dropping for him, and I was proud to tell him that searching a bit more for a repair solution, can be rewarding. Thank you so much for making and sharing this well made video! Thrustmaster eswap x pro once the elite goes out due to buttons not registering, double pressing, sticks going out entirely, etc. The eswap allows you to swap modules and has far better quality thumbstick modules available (often times able to set deadlines to 0 and they don't wear out as quickly), not to mention mechanical switches for buttons instead of the mushy rubber contact pads that get 1 speck of dirt and stop functioning correctly

Hey bro, I have never left a comment on a RUclips video before, but you have compelled me in a way that I can't resist. I am on my 3rd Elite series 2 controller (owned 2 Elite series 1's as well), and it has developed severe stick drift upwards, on the left joystick. It is still under warranty, but I honestly do not want the pain in the rear of shipping it into MS for repair. So I just stumbled upon your video, and it gave me the courage to finally pop this controller open and attempt your quick fix. Let me just say... THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!. The green caps have a film of carbon on them. The modules work similar to a brushed electric motor from my understanding. So, over time that carbon film gets worn and doesn't make solid contact. By adjusting the caps like this you're making it run on a different section of carbon film that may not be as worn (but will quickly wear due to it being very close to the worn section). It also can cause loss of contact entirely if you position the caps too far away. This isn't a long term solution, probably best used as a short term solution while waiting for your new controller to arrive (thrustmaster, powera, razer, rig, victrix, possibly even scuf but I wouldn't recommend scuf honestly, pretty much anything other than another elite 2 or other OEM controller that will have issues within months).

My 8-year-old dropped my first elite and then I went and got the series 2 and dropped this one. I thought he broke it and after searching, I found out it wasn't his fault, but no one had a fix. Well, they did but it was this and that and whatever.

I don't know if you all play Fortnite, but almost everything you do, you have to do it standing still. Any movement resets the action, and it was frustrating with my damn character moving forward randomly. There would be times where I was scoped in on someone and then all of a sudden, I can't see through the scope because I'm dead due to falling off the roof or cliff or blimp because of my stupid forward drift! THANK YOU AGIAN!

I tried this off and on with little effect but after spending some time playing with it I seemed to have stopped any drift and it's more precise on small movements. Pulling the sensor cover back and leaving space would sometimes work for a few minutes before issues arise again but it would always get worse, I simply removed the actual sensor piece that sits inside the clip and placed it back in, took some tries to get it in proper place but once I did the drift is very minimal to completely gone and after a full gaming session I can confidently say it's much improved. I'm sure it'll get worse after using it more but it's already been a day of use without the drift after placing the sensor back in vs 5 minutes of play without doing that

Thank you so much! This was such a simple fix, but worked instantly on my elite series 1. I came across your video when looking for ways of fixing my stick drift, as i was weary about spend $180 on an elite series 2 when i have a perfectly fine elite 1, with the exception of slight stick drift, which has now vanished since following your video and again thank you!

I’m thinking of doing this. I’ve been playingCold War Zombies and when I move forward and back, my operator continues to move for a couple centimeters and then either stops himself or I tap the joystick and it corrects itself and stops the extended movement. Usually continues to move when I hit the perk machines

  • @jessenelson9768
    @jessenelson9768 3 года назад +6

Does removing the plate void the warranty? I’m about to send mine off since I bought it in October, but previously I owned the series 1 and repaired it myself multiple times since it was out of warranty. Removing the screws on the series 1 voided warranty, so I was curious if it does for series 2 since there are no screws.

How do you get to send it off the steps are so unclear

    • @jessenelson9768
      @jessenelson9768 3 года назад +3

@@Jxyelan it’s very simple, as long as you have transportation to your local UPS. Log in to your Microsoft account, enter your serial number on the back of your controller, and this will tell you if your device is still covered under the warranty. If so, you’ll select to start a service request, and provide your issue as well as your mailing address. Within 24 hours of completing this, you will receive a return shipping label. You can either print it out, or just ask the UPS people if they can print it out for you. At the UPS location, they will box up your controller for you, and then from there you wait for your replacement.
I haven’t sent mine off yet, but I will be in the next few days. I already have the label printed, I just need to go to UPS.
The majority of this was explained in the video, and the process is no different. The only bit of info left out was HOW you send it back.. You simply just take your controller to a UPS location, and they will handle it from there. (important: KEEP ALL OF THE REMOVABLE PARTS/CABLES/CASE as they are not required to send you a new box like they did in the video)
I hope this helps. Have a wonderful day!

Sent my series 2 back and got the replacement in 6 days. And to answer my own question, dont try to fix it yourself if it’s under warranty. I fixed my series 1 multiple times, but I was just curious about their handling of the controllers that people tried to fix before the extension occurred.

I'm usually very sceptical to these "easy fix"- videos but I was in for a suprise.
Tried this on my 2 year old totally worn down elite.
It was so worn down the rubber was hanging lose all over 😂😂
Had mad up&down drift on the left ánd right stick.
I pretty much asumed the controller was dead and I'd have to buy a new one.
The drift was actually the reason I hadn't gamed in a month.
So long story short I followed all the steps precisely and I was baffled by the result.
    The drift was all gone!!
I made me take the time and glue the rubber back on propperly so now I pretty much have a new controller.
    Thanks for saving $250 brother!!
Ps. One more thing tho, before putting everything back together, hold the controller up side down and tap on it for about a minute.
(Put a white paper under to be amazed how much dirt falls out)

Bro this worked for me! My left stick got the forward drift after 3 weeks of owning the controller. Never came across your vid when I was looking for a solution, as It happened before you made this vid. So it's been a long time since I used the controller. My new spectra controller I bought to replace my series 2 broke last night. Right bumper to be exact. After only having it for 2 months. I'm not even rough with my shit. lol. But anyway, I didn't have the money to buy another controller, so figured I would try and fix my series 2 again. That's when I came by your video and now I got my favorite controller back working! it was definitely a pain in the ass to get the face plate off. There are a few scratches and dings because of it ( didn't really have the proper tools.), but I'm just happy it works again! Thanks so much man!

I tried to warranty it but my email address on file was wrong and they sent the shipping label and instructions to an email I could no longer access. Basically I was SOL. This fix worked perfectly. This worked amazingly for me, but one HUGE warning ⚠️ :
Use a blow dryer to heat up the analog stick just a TINY bit before unscrewing it. Even if you unscrew slowly, it is EXTREMELY easy to break the plastic.
Heating it up just a tad will loosen the adhesive on the plastic and help prevent it from breaking. Do not heat up too much though as you can melt stuff.
I was getting HORRIFIC stick drift so bad that in an FPS game, I would suddenly look up or down 90 degrees in a fraction of a second. It wasn't even a drift, it was like a missile.
Moving the sensor like this fixed it perfectly!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much

Intresting fix reduced pressure in the worn contact track, im thinking on the inner wiper radial the little buggers always turn into shovel gouges when the peaks wear off.
All they need is better quality wipers & contact tracks.
Possible BAM coating might work wonders hard material & reduced friction other than cleaning then spraying with GT 85 PTFE lube?
Im trying to put together you tube info on Potentiometers & Analog stick size form factor, if you get it all right with decent calibration options response curve & dead spot the jack of all trades pad eclipses M&KB.
Height ranges in the 0.05mm increments truely compliments dialing in the muscle memory.
Paired with shaft width selection provides total mechanical control comfort.
Way beyond kontrolfreeks or X Box magnetic stick line.
Im gunning for poorly optimised games companies on minimum viable product BS oversight.
Third party endorsement reliance is a lazy pyramid scheme.
