This was fantastic. Precise for me, a new lady fisherman. I have done surf fishing twice in Florida and only caught an attitude. Going out again next week to practice. Wish me luck.

Did u catch anything
@@johnnyman3138 that was years ago she must have forgotten that
Thanks! That is very helpful! I'm just starting to get into fishing. Still learning the basics.
This is a great video. My six yr old daughter is learning how to fish this year and this will come in handy when she gets rid of the spin-cast reel for a spinning reel.
Good solid video. I'm taking a buddy fishing in the morning. He traveled from the Philippines and this will be his first time fishing. He's pretty nervous and excited, this vid should help him out learning to cast. Thanks Salt Strong..
Your the easiest person to follow on RUclips. Really helpful
Nice and clear explanation. Nice work!
Solid video. Just picked up my first pole, and had some trouble. This clears everything up. Especially the bit about wind knots. Thanks!
Glad to see that you enjoyed this casting a spinning reel video. Tight Lines!
Nicely explained!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Super Awesome tutorial. It's really helpful. Thanks a lot from India.
best how to cast video on RUclips. covers all the bases thank you
Definitely the best tutorial video on cast a rod. Thanks mate
Thanks for making time to post the nice comment Jerome!
Excellent video, especially the tip re the finger crease. I've just gotten my first spinning reel, since I prefered baitcasters till now, but the KastKing Sharky III looked very promising on a long rod for beach fishing and extra distance, so I need to get to grips with it.
Your finger should never touch the string. The bail (as mentioned) is down when you open it. Your finger should be touching the edge of the spool to keep it from moving. You release your finger from the spool to control line feed, put you finger back on the spool to stop line feed, very similar to a bait casting reel. Your finger should never touch the line. Try this I think you will like it.
@@somefishinghappening4735 Thank you sir ! I've not heard this before, but it sounds pefectly sensible - I'll be giving that a try until I get it right.
Thats what i needed since years pffff. Thx buddy.
Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks for the video. Very inspiring. Just bought my first rod. Ugly Shakespeare.
Thanks for showing the basics to us novices. Thumb up.
Great video...very well explained. Thanks for sharing.
Congratulation for this good video. Excellent!
Very reliable and informative! Thanks
Awesome tips!!!! Greatly appreciated. 👍🏾
This is so helpful I was doing so many things wrong!!! There’s a lot more too casting than meets the eye
Very good tutorial but i advise to set the reel spool a bit former than your finger cause when you re casting the spool moves faster and the line hits the bail before you let the line go with your finger.
Maybe premium reels like Shimano or daiwa does not do that often but with the momentum of your casting most reel spools turn and hinder the line’s movement by bail hitting it precasting
Sorry for my English with technical terms.
Thanks from Mumbai India
Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for your channel, I have learned much. Was hoping you might be able to help me. I am an ultra light angler, I have started using braid for the first time: PE- 0.15 2.5lb, The line frequently is wrapping around the guides during the cast, especially the first guide (closest to reel) but sometimes higher up. Also I notice that my jig is often helicoptering-I know it is my cast because sometimes it does not helicopter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Good video!
Thank you!
Top advise! Thank you. 👍🏻
Very informative, thank you.
Hey man, great video. But, you did not talk about one important question (neither did any other youtube video) which I find very odd because it's crucial.
Here's the question... A fisherman has two primary functions while using his fishing tool (aka. "fishing rod"), which are "Controlling (or holding) the rod" and "Controlling (or spinning) the reel". Assuming a right handed person using a spinning reel, Which hand should hold the rod, and which hand should spin the reel? This also affects which side you should have your spinning handle on your reel.
I have an opinion on this. The hand holding the rod must be the strongest and most accurate. You need strength to cast well and to control the fish well and to land that big one! Because let's face it, while you're in a fight, it's the hand holding the rod that will be doing most of the work. This means that "holding the rod" takes preference and therefore needs your better hand!
I ask this because where I live, many people do this wrong. They spin with the strong hand. They have the wrong understanding of how a spinning rod/reel should be used. They think the spinning is meant to "winch" the fish in, as opposed to the proper way, which is to intermittently pull the fish in using the rod (with the strong hand), create slack in the line and then winding that slack line on the reel. The other problem they face is having to switch hands every time they cast.
Maybe you should have a video discussing this because this topic has not been discussed on youtube, not that I can find at least. All the videos that talk about "How to hold a rod" or "how to cast", all talk about what you have on your video.
I'm right handed. My uncle which has never used a rod in his life, find's it very strange and wrong for me to be spinning with my left hand. He even makes jokes and finds it funny. I lost a big fish one time and he said that I would have landed it if I was spinning with my right (stronger hand). He just doesn't get it or he's just plain stubborn. He says "I don't want to use a rod. I'm happy hand line fishing". This is the BS you sometimes get from local fishermen here lol
Good point! I agree that it's best to hold the rod with the dominant hand for the exact reason that you stated. But it can work the other way too as your uncle would surely agree with. So my personal theory is that the right way to hold the rod is whichever way feels more comfortable for the user.
Same goes with hand placement during the cast... I cast with my left hand on the top and then switch while the lure is going away which is contradictory to what most people teach (always keep the rod hand at the top and don't ever move it). But for me, I cast more accurately with the left hand up and can then have my stronger hand on the rod to handle the big ones. So go with whatever feels best and let the haters hate all they want.
I agree. Whatever the user is happy with. But my uncle thinks he knows everything :)
Cheers Mate!
🎉Thank you so much‼️
Thank you for watching!
Do you release your trigger finger during the cast? Or do you use it to apply tension? Also, how do you set your drag?
Great videos guys. keep it coming.
Thanks for making time to leave a comment on this video about casting a spinning reel. We're putting together an in-depth course for getting parents and kids fishing together from shore, so there will be many more videos posted in the very near future. Fish On!
Nice video thx you very much
Where are you located? I’m south shore Long Island .... just started surf casting and needed some help you answered all my questions
Funny you mention switching hands when casting I see a lot of that and never understood why people would waist the effort of continuously switching hands. But I guess if you get the lure in the water it is better than just sitting at home watching TV. Great tips. Thanks
I am brand new to fishing, and just learning the spinning reel. I am VERY left handed and cant cast with my right hand. So I cast with my left hand and then switch to the right hand to use the reel. This works for me until I can find a reel with the crank on the left side.
Tara Wol
Tara Wolf Try to see if the crank can be switched to the other side most do nowadays. Just unscrew the knob on the opposite side, pull out the crank and switch them.
This helped a lot
when you take the line with your finger, are you just letting it kind of rest against your finger, or do you trap it between your finger and the rod?
Your finger should never touch the string. The bail (as you mentioned it) is down when you open it. Your finger should be touching the edge of the spool to keep it from moving. You release your finger from the spool to control line feed, put you finger back on the spool to stop line feed, very similar to a bait casting reel. Your finger should never touch the line. Try this I think you will like it.
Going to go ahead and practice that before I go fishing
this help me so much thnks 👌💯

Modern spinning reels are made to not be closed by turning the handle but flipping the bail. Though my 25yr old peen you can't close it by flipping the bail it takes turning the handle. But the reels are designed internally differently.
Hi Luke ,
Well presented, however!!! Should a note be inserted about protecting the index finger with tape Incase one is using braid..The weight of the lure will dictate when you use the tape.Medical is good ..It sticks to itself. Just a tip !!

Teaching my wife to use a spinning outfit. Great Job !!!!
I have heard that after we cast, and lure hits or is abt to hit the water, we stop the line with our finger... Then flip the bail and start reeling back.. how recommended is this stopping of the line with the finger.. logic is that we save a few winds of unneccesary line going wayward

kast king has a new spinning reel out looks just like the stradic
Why do some rods have a trigger seating? Can you please do a vid on that?
Those are for bait caster reels.
You could cast using single hand? I never notice this. By the way, you have use 10lbs test, what is the biggest fish you caught using 10lbs?
The biggest fish I've landed with 10 lb line is a ~60 lb tarpon... got it all on film too and you can see the video on this page on our website: www.saltstrong.com/articles/fg-knot-tarpon-catch/
@@Saltstrong yeah i saw the vid. So a 10lbs line can still hold a 60lbs fish! I thought no.
How to cast the bait to the target?
Can you break a line while casting if you hold your finger too long
Only if you're using a very heavy lure and/or very light line.
At 3:55 you said flip the bail open. Actually, you are flipping the bail closed to retrieve line.
Have you guys ever tried the shimano symmetry
I have, it is very nice!
+LiLBlairJr do you have a stradic fk
Yes, the symmetry reels are a solid choice. I have one that is still working like new after getting dunked in salt water over 6 months ago.
I never put my spin reels skywards it does not seem correct the backbone of the rod is not meant to load up backwards i always go with the rods backbone load it up that way makes a more springy projectory . if you load your rod against its backbone im shure one day it will snap .
Thanks for the feedback!
What rod do you have that ci4 paired with?
I have it paired with a 7"6" rod made by Temple Fork Outfitters... you can get links to the exact size/model info for that setup in the Equipment section of this post: www.saltstrong.com/articles/snook-fishing-in-the-winter/
Found first video with details
I'm going fishing with my family and I am tryin to how to cast with a spinning reel I see them do it but most videos are left and I'm right cause the top thing I don't know what way which to reel in and cast out I'm just a kid sorry
Go with whichever way feels most natural for both casting and retrieving. Most right-handed people in America have their right hand on the top for casting and retrieving (so the left hand in on the bottom for the cast and the handle for the retrieve). But it seems like it's the opposite in many other countries. So it's more about preference. I am a mix of each because I like to have my left hand on top for casting and it feels more natural for it to be on the handle for the retrieve, so I just do a quick hand switch while the lure is in the air to move the rod from my left hand to the right.
But what if you are left handed?🤔
Great vid. How many have done everything but forget to open the bail and end up whipping your line? 😂
I'm sure all serious anglers have done that at some point... just takes a split second of not paying attention:)
It looks like a temple but I'm not sure

Why does this guy kinda look like post malone
