The next step is for the G to stop people from working on their own bikes (cars...) and forcing everyone to go to an approved shop who "must" record and upload all documents of work done.
that is already happening…. even applies to working on your own farm equipment

It's because they don't fear us... the government used to fear the people. The 2nd amendment is the answer to the government over-reach.
@@indianbill3123 Nope. John Deere lost that battle. Educate yourself.
I remember a few years back when diesel shops were getting raided and shut down for "emissions violations" (even though they made the trucks run better than stock). After the government went full retard on electric vehicles I knew it was only a matter of time before they started on motorcycles.
This is why I got out of the diesel performance industry. EPA go after the big company with a hefty fine. They in turn hand all the small shops over to save their ass.
Misplaced anger I think. It's the EPA that we need to fight against, not the parts dealers hamstrung by laws and lawyers.
And the only way we will be able to fight the EPA is to get the Demorats out of office. They want total control of our lives.
2nd amendment is the answer to tyrannical forces...
@@UnrulyRider Good luck with that.
This issue has been coming for decades. The EPA has a set of street noise emission standards for both motorcycle OEMs and aftermarket parts suppliers. This has been true for at least the past 20+ years. It's why every once in a great while someone will get pulled over and ticketed for their 'loud pipes save lives' aftermarket exhaust.
And unsurprisingly every once in a great while the Feds get serious about enforcement. Obviously the Feds have been talking with Drag Specialties, among others. And obviously Drag Specialties has made the decision that taking the full risk of getting sued to oblivion by the Feds isn't worth the business. So by including that legal language in their catalogue, they are spreading that risk around. I would expect the Feds to be looking for someone to make an example of, so the same legal language is likely to be appearing in other parts catalogues as well.
Parts dealers should also be fighting back.
@@darladuchesscontadour5380 100%.
Sadly, this has been the law in Canada for a long time. We can't legally put aftermarket exhausts on our bikes. Do people do it? Absolutely. It's up to the police to determine whether your bike is compliant or not, so if you run into a cop that doesn't like you or your bike, or the sound of your exhaust, you get a fat ticket and have to do an inspection by a certified shop or a dealership to sign off on your bike. You still have to pay the ticket or argue if your bike didn't have race only performance parts (yes, there are cases where people got tickets for running a stock bike and the cop simply didn't like you). Total BS and government overreach. I don't see governments banning private jets for the elite, but they will happily ban bike exhausts that make up less than 5% of vehicles on the road. Ridiculous.
Yes you CAN put aftermarket parts on your motorcycle in Canada. Shops are in no way obligated to follow the procedure mentioned in this video. Yes we have a noise law and you can be ticketed etc. And I'm sure it happens but few and far between. Everyone I know runs aftermarket exhaust and none have received a ticket for noise violation. I run V&H straight shots on my Harley and haven't had an issue. Sheesh in 1980 I had a inline 4 with a Yoshimura competition exhaust on it. Hahah it had a plate on the exhaust that said completion ONLY. I got tickets, speed variety, and never for exhaust. Anyway. We are NOT discouraged here as one might think. Cheers!
@@geo.037 That is absolutely true, I run aftermarket pipes on my bike too, but there is a clause in the MVA that prohibits that. Of course we happily ignore it.
Same in Melbourne Australia but I’ve only been fined twice and had to reinstall standard pipes for noise test. I’ve been riding since 1976
That's not just Canada, aftermarket exhausts aren't supposed to be installed on anything except "off road or racing applications". Its only because of the EPA which is a North American entity. Nobody has ever been fined for it that I have ever met lol this has been a thing forever
You technically can't put an aftermarket exhaust in the USA either and definitely not in California.
We're in business with parts unlimited and drag for 32 years. None of our customers are going to comply with shit
The only problem with taking a stand is that it won’t be effective at anything but stopping the sale of those parts altogether, because the EPA does not give a rat’s ass about what people want. They are 100% committed to the eradication of all combustion engine vehicles. They can’t just ban them outright yet, so they’re taking the death by 1000 cuts approach. They will make it more and more difficult to modify cars and bikes for racing until racing ceases to exist, then they will continue making it more and more impossible for OEMs to meet fuel efficiency requirements until nothing is made but electric vehicles with limited range and the ability to be shut off remotely.
They would never do that! 😂

Noise is a huge problem with people removing the catalectic converters from all types of vehicles. Making their bikes of all types so loud they can be heard for miles with these straight through pipes. It is not about performance it is about being annoying and not giving a shit about other people. I say about time these laws have been around for decades. Every exhaust system has it stamped on the exhaust, it is a federal law. Good every state and city should enforce noise pollution.
Just run to Nevada and purchase all aftermarket parts. I did, Trask Air cleaner, Trask trans vent, Vance and Hiens headers and slip-ons
They say these parts are for racing but they measure decibel levels at tracks now and have even shut down tracks for being too loud. Even though the track is supposed to be the place that you CAN be loud. They want to take away the internal combustion engine and motorcycles and only allow you to have a gray electric box that can be shut down by the government at any time if they deem you to be unfit for travel.
Got a set Vance and Hines pipes for my bike 7years ago, and it's printed on the box " for off road use only not legal for street use"

My brother in law is a LEO.
I ride a sport bike with an aftermarket exhaust.
He told me if I was ever pulled over and the officer asks if the exhaust is factory.
Your answer should be " I'm sorry officer I'm not a mechanic, are you?"
He also told me that self incrimination is their most important tool.
Screw the government for sure
they tried something like that in R.I on inspections . no aftermarket exhaust and believe 12" to top of handlebars measured from seat compressed.500.00 fine for each. plus the shop that inspected it, even if there put on after inspection. no one got there bike inspected and most shops didn't get sticker,s. state police colonel told the troopers no tickets for no inspection. that inspection law didn't last long.
It’s not just HD dealing with these issues. I bought a Ducati branded exhaust produced by Akrapovic. You can install the exhaust on your own but you have to get the dealer to install the UpMap. In order for the dealer to install the UpMap, the bike has to be delivered to the dealership in/on a trailer, bike must be race prepped (lights taped, license plate removed) and the dealership take photos of such coming and going.
You, as the owner of the bike, must sign a document stating you will only use the bike on track. This basically removes liability from everyone else but you.
I have a fine 1993 Harley Evo.....I don't give a shit what the dealer says....I have minimal electrics and besides... too antique for them to deign to work on....
Good for Ducati.
I often wondered why aftermarket parts (mufflers particularly) seemed to have less "restrictions" than Harley mufflers. The mufflers are one of the first things we replace. We get rid of the wimpy sounding stock pipes for more aggressive sounding pipes.
Didn’t HD get into strife for selling loud bikes? That’s my understanding anyway.
Harley has to meet stringent emissions and noise regulations which require them to detune the bike significantly - especially on an air cooled engine. The noise restrictions are the total sound, the rotating and valve train noise and the exhaust so they really have to quiet the exhaust. They'll be happy to sell you Screaming Eagle slip on's to fix that.
Well they are loud. How else is that four wheeler going to say I did not know the motorcycle was there?

This has been happening in the car scene for a few years now. Car tuners ie Hondata have been cited by the EPA for modding vehicles and paying hefty fines. Some companies have already been put out of business. Like it or not this is coming for motorcycling the same way. The gov't and manufacturers have declared that the code on the ECU is NOT the property of the vehicle owner therefore s/he cannot modify that code. With the amount of pollution the likes of coal rollers do, it's no surprise that these changes are coming down so hard.
Unbelievable how far a reach they are getting… or we are giving… with or without our consent.
Excellent Video and topic. I hate that we just cant have fun anymore building cool cars and bikes without being so over regulated that you are afraid to take you performance car or bike onto the roadway. I wonder if this is why Harley cancelled my order for a Stage 4 kit with no explanation. The customer service rep said they didn’t know why it was cancelled, but the kit was unavailable and I could not back order it (even though the website says it’s available for back order).

In California this has been an issue for a long time. When I had an HD, the only 50 states legal exhaust came from S&S. After fixit tickets were tied to vehicle registration that was it C.A.R.B. Is brutal!
Is it time to start building a Komatsu D355A with a Thunderheader and EV27?
What's Dumb as hell and has been for a long time is Harley Davidson spending a c*** ton of money controlling the sound of their motorcycles and people, claiming they liked the sound of their motorcycles. But then the first thing they do is throw a different pipe on it.
I have been riding for 35 years. I don’t have a problem with modifying your bike. I do have a problem with exhaust modifications. Most modifications only affect the bike. Exhaust modifications affect everyone around. Nobody should have to listen to loud exhaust on cars, trucks, or motorcycles. It’s a matter of respect for others.

I had to buy my exhaust from Amazon because cause no one would send one to California. I worked in the aftermarket auto parts business for years. More than half of the products we sold were only for “off-road use only”. It didn’t stop anyone, but a cop in the know would write you a fix it ticket a mile long if you got pulled over for even the slightest infraction.
Saw this coming, they have done this with autos for a long time. It's why a number of shops I know that do this have owner of bike sign a form that this is for off road use only. This is problem with Chevron deference, Congress didn't pass the law but EPA just made a rule, not a law. This is a back door way to stop people in states that don't have emission testing to stop modifying the bikes
I'm with y'all.
If a company is going to question what I do with the products I purchase, I’m going to do business elsewhere. I’m extremely thankful I’m not part of the Harley ecosystem.
Hopefully, everyone has the same attitude, but I can see most dealers just complying, unfortunately.
The diesel truck industry went through this a few years back. PPEI specifically got into some trouble, and a guy in Houston was fined $1mil. And he was just a locally owned performance shop. It was dumb. Mostly deleting emissions, but the emissions from 10 years ago was crap. It didn’t work.

Si is the AMA sitting on the sidelines? If so, why does the AMA exists.
This has already happened in the Automotive repair industry and the Diesel repair industry. Shops still performing much of this type of performance work are hanging their asses out a mile. I had hoped that because of the low volume of actual damage being done to the environment by motorcycles that it would never come but here it is. Hell it's even happened in the lawn mower industry. Not that exhaust and cam's were being installed on mowers but certainly compliance regarding lower emissions by manufactures has and hard starting and poor running mowers are the result. I don't think anyone is going to stop it.
On the bright side most of the new motorcycles run great because of technology advancements like VVT.
Unfortunately I think the street market after market performance industry is doomed at least as it exists today.
I agree except for modifying your bike to a point it's unsafe to control properly or so loud that it hurts and

They told you that you would own nothing and be happy.
I am in Australia, and we are somewhere between Canada and the US. If the manufacturers were allowed by the regulations to make their OEM exhaust sound like a motorcycle there would not be any need for aftermarket exhausts. Catalytic converters flow well nowdays so having a cat is not really the issue. The Mercedes AMGs prove that you the OEM's can build a great sounding exhaust.
Harley already kowtowed when they got rid of the race only , orange ignition/tuner. I've even n as articles that bikes will fail NY inspection without stock exhaust.

More than likely there will be a year model cut off that will be the line where you can get performance parts and will be more strict on the newest models. My bikes are old and one is carbureted. But with fuel injected models programmers are required. Nothing sucks more than a factory Harley exhaust system. Most people will have them changed quickly after buying a new bike because of the terrible sound and heat from the restrictive mufflers and lean fuel system. Without being able to get programmers it really would ruin the riding experience.
Interesting stance Drag is taking. They must know it's going to cost them sales. But why? Are they holding the seller of parts liable? You would think it would be solely on the installer.
They are just covering their ass so that the EPA doesn't sue them into oblivion. Go look at what the EPA did to the diesel truck guys. One little shop in Texas got hit with a 1 million dollar fine. What do you think Drag Specialties fine would be?
Huge fines....

Luckily, here in Louisiana, EPA compliance is merely a suggestion. I wouldn't have bought my Harley if I wasnt able to modify the intake, add a cam, full tune, and Bassani radial sweepers exhaust. I go to the gym with some local State Troopers, and they don't care about my bike as lomg as I'm not doing 80 through a residential at 2am. The moment my Harley becomes illegal for the mods and the government fines me to death for it is the moment I sell it and buy a Triumph.
