My RX8 did that when I had the stock battery terminal connectors. They grip weakly and are prone to having *just enough* corrosion for a problematic connection but not be apparent. New connectors and grease fixed it for good.
You know, even if it is going to be your first time painting your fenders, it shouldn't be too hard since you're using black. Any imperfections probably wont show in natural daylight, unless you put a flashlight near, and even if there is a rough spot, you should be able to paint over it because....its black. Im interested in seeing the results.
Prep is key with any paint. Definitely scrub those kit parts with a scuff pad and degreaser before you do anything else. Then block and prime them. The Harbor Freight guns are useable, but you need to make sure you have a compressor to provide the correct CFM you'll need to lay down consistent product. Black base coat will be simple as to lay down. Clear coat is a bit tricky in colder climates...
@@akagels I'm in the body shop industry for 20 years and things still go sideways once in a while 😂 No shame in a "do over" once in a while if it comes to it
Super excited to see this project get moving! And I’ll tell you from experience, painting is all about prep work and just taking your time. I know you can do it.
Those harbor freight spray guns get the job done, obviously not a full respray job but I did do some touch up on my RX8 a couple years back and its held up well. Prep is key! Looking forward to the build!
I am loving the black. I wanted to do mine two tone with black and red, but I ended up keeping the silver and incorporating red and black in other ways. Would totally like to talk about stuff that you've done and perhaps pick your brain a bit. As with your rx8 mine too doesn't have many stock parts left😅
Check your clutch safety switch. That's probably why it's not starting. Grab the switch part and pull it out. it gets Smashed in and doesn't work. Under clutch pedal
Hey Gels! Another relatively new RX-8 owner here. Where did you get your SOHN adapter kit? I've been trying to find one but everywhere I look they have been sold out.
So… I heard when keeping your car on a tender or charger it’s good practice to ground to frame somewhere or maybe the block or something. Apparently running the ground directly to the negative terminal could introduce some electrical issues. Not too sure what exactly… just figured I’d mention it.
Love that you are building something out of the norm.. I also built a widebody rx8 because of you.. do you have any issues with the front pinch welds in the wheel wells ? Mine scrape my tires when I turn and I’m not that low !
That's crazy to hear! And yes I'm running into the same issue and it's eating my tires. I plan to take a mallet or something to the inside of the fender well to flatten those things out soon.
I would love to own a RX-8 next to my little Civic, but i'm just too terrified to actually purchase one. Where i live they go between 2-5000 €, ( 2100 $ -5300 $) they really are dirt cheap over here and i think they look so damn good.
Keep looking. Mine came from an older gentleman that had owned rotaries his whole life. The car has been fantastic outside of normal maintenance. It needs brakes and that's it
You should ditch the fish bowl look and get that MASSIVE rear window tinted. Not sure what the tint laws are for you guy up in the frozen north. Down here in Florida everyone, even the cops, have "illegal" tint.
For get the wrap you have wasted enough time and money it's a black car, color correct the paint then detail it. It's black you don't wrap a black car black

Black speed3 🕳. Needs a clutch and a snowplow.
SNOWPRA!
EK hatch and i love everything about it, well except the rust and 0-100.😅

At least the RX8 keeps the coolant where its supposed to be 👀

Gotta love that RX8 a lot. Nice to know that there will be more contents for this one soon. You're one of the legends that keeps a cool unique car.

Thanks for the tips! I plan an doing a ton of research before laying anything down to hopefully prevent too many things going wrong.

I miss my rx8, that k&n filter makes the car sound so crazy at 10k
I'm still thinking about getting a k&n (typhoon) filter for the RX-8, is it worth the investment? :)
A little tip from a fellow homepainter. High quality cans works just as well as most guns. Dont be too scared when painting just send it.
“They didn’t tell me when I left that I had to give back the fitment” had me cracking up😂

Super cool! Body work and rotaries are intimidating and you dive right in for 2023!🎉
Never been afraid of a challenge!

Definitely looking forward to seeing this come together. I have so much work to do to my focus before automotion and car season in general

Looking forward to seeing more of this car, especially now that you can do more of your own thing on it!
Don't worry bud, ChrisFix is there for us when it comes to painting our own cars lol.

I had the same thing happen when I started my Pontiac after a while . Weather swelling and shrinking connections is what I found
Gonna make this killer looking!!! Hand me the harbour freight sprayer. Lol good luck with that. Really, good luck.
blue dawn dish soap and hot water gets a good amount of mold release off of new plastic panels
Looking forward for ideas for the engine bay liner . The engine bay in my cosmo looks also like a nest of rats with it .
Did you do a video of unwrapping the car? How long did it take?

I purchased mine from Ebay, however I know they have been hard to get ahold of for about the last year or so
You should bring it out if you ever come back to FuelFest LA! We have some good mountains out here in Cali.
That would be an absolute dream!

I'll definitely give that a go! Pretty sure my battery is just old and toast.
