I follow a lot of HVAC channels, and I gotta say, most of them just turn into advertisers for their sponsors, and the content tails off. But you put a lot of high quality content out, and I've seen no signs that falling off. Every vid has at least one little nugget I can learn from and take with me. Thank you for the vids, keep it up!!!!
on the trane RTUs, they often have a cracked discharge line after a while. I always add a vibration loop to the discharge line to mitigate the problems with that.
We had nine 10 ton units on our factory roof, seventeen 2.5 million BTU makeup air units, thirty six Lennox 100,000 BTU units Twenty plus window units and countless condensers throughout the complex, With only a crew of three Technicians. I set up a PM program (back in 2001) using the factory production computer, (they didn’t know there was a maintenance application in the system). Needless to say, there were busy. With that system in place, call outs were reduced from 40% to less than 5% and we were eventually able to hire an extra tech full time, thanks to the PM system that showed we were saving a ton of money.
I'm surprised Trane didn't give this unit model number NCC-74656. Though, unlike York, Trane was never assimilated by the Borg-Warner. When that happens, don't even bother with an ohmmeter - measuring for resistance is futile!
Ya most gas piping is not like you'd do yourself Along with "professional" wiring that even a rat could get lost in... nothing irritates an OCD electrician more than a sloppy box
How many pounds would a 15 ton take? Switching to commercial and always wondered how much freon one would have to carry on the truck. As well as recovery cylinders.
What did you figure out about the compressor? Why was second stage running when it was calling for first stage to run? Did it have a lead/lag like you mentioned in the video? Thanks!
Yeah when the compressor went off on high head the second one took over. Sort of a lead lag setup, but not really. It's just logic built into the board.
The app in this video was the Imanifold app but I don't suggest investing any money in their products I highly suggest you look into an app called Measure Quick it is free on all platforms and I would suggest you use the FieldPiece Joblink probes with the app. Here are links for the probes and the tablet I use Samsung Tab A amzn.to/2IZxSKYOttor Box case amzn.to/2ZWYIZZFieldpiece JobLink probes amzn.to/2XeiKNIMeasure Quick www.measurequick.com/

The D-tek select has been very reliable for me as well. If anyone is interested I see Inficon is coming out with an updated electronic leak detector called the Stratus. There is a video on their you tube channel. Dont believe it's been released yet.
As Familia says it mean energy management system. Basically they have cubical dwellers looking at computer screens deciding when to turn on the hvac system and when to turn it off.
Man I didn't get it it was just a bad capacitor and you just make your decision to change the motor? It is just like you see some one that he has high blood sugar and you just say let's cut his leg off because he will going to cut his leg in future anyway? That sounds crazy to me !I guess they going to pay about 4or 5hundred dollars for only that motor right? And there still low refrigerant problem not include!when you say R22 I have a feeling they going to pay about 1000 or more just for motor and some gas
honestly, its not the same thing, yes its a bad cap. the cap probably was original to the unit same as the fan. he said that the customer is a pretty far drive. just to save on a potential call back, he wants to change that motor. an electric motor isnt like someone with high blood sugar. at least with blood sugar issues you can get medical help. the motor wont get better, it cant get help (besides new bearings) and thats if its not sleeved. otherwise motors wont last forever and a electric motor in the elements for sure doesnt hold up forever. The reason to replace it is simple its old, its health is questionable, he doesnt want the call back since then thats a free call, however there are places that love to tell you no to fixing things so then they can call you back to fix them for basicly free because they claim that you didnt tell them that there was a problem. so sometimes its best to take care of a problem now. An amp draw can tell only tell you so much. as far as the leak goes, the leak repair will be cheaper than a new unit. fix the leak, change the drier, give it another once over with a leak detector or soap everything, vac it down, charge it back up to factory spec. all you can do is just try and get it operating the best you can and reliably.
Yes... fit a new capacitor, test amperage on motor. if good, that's done.. Shut down smaller compressor, reclaim gas, weld hole or make new discharge pipe, new drier, quick vac add old gas and top up,, wash condensor inside and out,done..maybe the company tells mechanics to change parts, because that equals $$$$$$$$$$
drcolster that might be true to some degree. However as he said in this situation its a far drive from his local area, that might mean that a supply house isn’t local, so with that you would have to go out to find the problem and then leave again to make a round trip to pick up the motor and come back to change it. Where as he’s already out there, the motor is original. It could be fine, however you need to look at the big picture. I know exactly what he’s talking about. I went to a call about 2 hours away, they said the condenser fan wouldn’t run, so i picked up a new motor since it was a critical space that contained data equipment which had no cooling at the time besides some other units close by and box fans to try to move air around. I went down there thinking well its tripping on high head due to the bad fan or cap. Check it out to find it to have a bad control board, wired around it to get them going for the hot week until we could get a board in. Had i went down there with out it and it was the motor, i would have had to drive almost 2 hours back into town to get a motor and that was if the place was open. At that time it wouldn’t have been. That’s a somewhat similar situation. Normally good techs are not out to screw anyone, there out to make the system reliable, to avoid call backs and to keep customers happy. Yes it does cost money to do so, but in the long run its better to have to call us out less than more often. Which also means less down time. And in some places down time costs them even more money. So even if it seems stupid “ well the motor works right” yes for now it does, but that doesn’t mean it wont fail without warning. And in that situation sometimes if it does fail you get customers that want you to replace it for free on a call back because you touched last basically. And claim they didn’t know even if you tell them 100 times. That’s what you just make as many notes as possible and have them sign off in that situation.
Hello Cameron, you went well prepared to a job, it wasn't the fan motor, it was the board.. But you didn't put the new motor on as well.. No... Motors: reasons to change, squeally bearings, high amp draw, cutting out on internal overload, run stinking hot, physical damage etc.. if this motor was none of those, and just a bad capacitor, a capacitor is what it needs, also the running motor should get a new cap as well.. Chris is a damm good Tech, but i have seen him go to one fan motor not working, change 2 motors, that case it may have needed it.....i saw him find a solenoid valve not working,{ beer walk in warm job} bad solenoid coil, fits a new coil, in summary says he will quote new solenoid valve, but, valve works, shuts off, but he wants to change solenoid valve, in that call, leaky receiver, yes, new drier ,yes, cut out leaky quick connectors, yes.change dicky sporlan tx valve, yes but there is no reason to change a solenoid valve that just had a dead coil, in 34 years of doing this trade iv'e had 100's of bad coil, and capacitors.. This subject is really between Techs, if it works,it works, changing parts equals more profits... customers don't know, some will say one motor wasn't working, you change 2, well, it may have gone soon anyway,,, or, some say money is tight, i could only afford one.... good chatting, keep well....
drcolster to each their own. Every situation is different. All you can do is make a recommendation. In the end it’s up to the customer. Some will be happy you did it. Others can see it as a way to get more money. Some things are necessary, sometimes you find something and then get a little crazy with it. The end game is alway make the customer satisfied. At least that’s how I am. I know not everyone out there in the trade is that way. And I agree he’s a good tech. As you said about the solenoid valve itself was good but the coil failed, I probably would have replaced the coil, checked everything else and if all is good then leave it at that.

Never used it

Yes it did

We would use a crane to lift it up
That would be cool to see
The D tek select is pretty dead on with finding leaks on different refrigerants exept R-410a. Have you ran into this as well?
Actually I've found 410a leaks too, I haven't had any problems using it. But I have heard a bunch of people say they have problems??

no is the cooling capacity, is 15 x 12,000BTU
How did you get the imanifold app to record on video?
I used a screen recorder app, just download one from the app store

when you say "EMS", do you mean Ecobee EMS as in the thermostat?
