Polycarbonate film works good, if you would like to protect your screen. I use it on my phones. Love the videos, though I am a civilian. Best wishes for the New Year!
I'm a computer programmer, not an HVAC tech, but I watch a bunch of these kinds of videos just because I like to learn how stuff works. Always impressed by the way you work. Some of the ways you go about figuring out the problems are surprisingly similar to the way I approach figuring out a bug in some old legacy code, like always observing everything you can before starting to mess with things.
Recently had our old fridge in the basement die. The compressor was clicking off on overload and the food got warm, remembering your videos diagnosing the starting components on reach ins and glycol units, I decided to take the bottom panel off and investigate the compressor to see if we could save the fridge (and some money). I checked the capacitor and that tested good, so next thing I did was removed the start relay and overload protection. When I removed the box with those components in it, there was definitely stuff shaking inside. When I opened it, I found burn marks and the start relay completely disintegrated. I also checked the compressor for shorts and there were none. I then bought replacement starting components (all 3 as you say to do) and the fridge started back up! Your videos our not only informative, they have saved me money! Thank you so much and hope you have a great 2025 as well!
Chris. You absolutely are a special guy. You've been in this trade a good while now but have managed to keep your ethical code and Give-A-Shit intact. As a Refrigeration Tech since 2004, I know how difficult that can be some days. I also know how many guys have a bad case of the Fuckits because I'm cleaning up their messes on the daily. On top of that you're doing your best to teach folks, which is simply noble in itself. You deserve and have earned every bit of kudos you get. 🎉❤ Thanks for being you!!
Your videos have helped me a lot. I have a decade of experience with ice machines and refrigerators. On January 6, I will start attending school to join the Pipefitters union. I have been working for a union company since July. They work with walk-in coolers, AC, heating, refrigeration, and ice machines. Watching your videos has helped me a ton. I recently mentioned it to you on Facebook. Thanks, I enjoy your videos.
You’re just a normal guy, but you have an abundance of knowledge that you’re willing to share with us all. Awesome work as always. Thanks again Chris! 👍🏻👍🏻
I'm an IT guy, and I work from home, the other day my AC failed, thanks to what I learned from your videos I was able to figure out that the starting capacitor of the compressor had died, I'm still waiting for the replacement but thank you for what you teach us through all your videos.
I appreciate the videos, the explanations, the humor, the effort. I need to be good in this field for myself and my children. You're helping me out a lot
Out of the HVAC yt'bers yours is one of the most consistant high quality. There are a few around who film their days and I watch through fingers quite distraught at what they are doing to customers equipment. Constantly guessing and part changing. Your channel is the go to for any ( esp young) engineer wanting to expand his diagnostic skills. HNY
Same here, id like to watch more channels but there is just really no one i could find with the passion and quality. Like one guy I used to watch, I dont know much about hvac, but he seemed alright. Until that day he was working on a residential unit. He had to open a plastic bag, so he held it up against the outside of the brand new unit, took a carpet knife and sliced the bag using the AC as a backing, putting a deep scratch onto the outside of the new unit in someones backyard.. That was the end for me. I know I'll never see something like that happen on this channel.
i work for a local HVAC company in the IT department. we have about 240 employees, and 12 stores in the Northwest. you chris are a dying breed. you are fair, honest, you are there for the customer, informative, helpful, you always look out for the customer, and you are a great teacher. i've learned alot about the inner workings of AC/heating units even more than i have working for a HVAC company. though my job I don't have to know anything about HVAC since i just fix computers and servers, it is nice to be able to learn from a pro. keep it up, and thank you. happy 2025
These videos have helped me tremendously in my new venture as a hvacr tech…. Green bean not knowing anything. I’m learning a ton from what you share. Thank you🍻
Watching these videos has helped me improve my game. I'm not an HVAC guy - I do component level electronics repair - but I now apply the "Big Picture" to my workflow. I've been doing this for 50 years and still I have room for improvement. Happy 2025 to all!
It's been years since I have commented here. I have been following you since day 28 of your videos. I am who I am today because of you. Your videos are like the Bible to me. Love the music Chris. You gotta tell me what genre this music is. Please?
I must admit, I like your face Chris, you are the most perfect person in HVAC repairs and other HVAC power systems, your the cutest man in the whole world
I own a truck and trailer repair company. I love watching your videos and learning new diag stuff even tho we work on different stuff diag is the same for anything. Keep up the awesome content.
I work on a lot of the same equipment, under similar conditions. Always late in the day and under pressure. So when I see a great tip, trick, or tool, it truly makes my life easier. A great example would be using the appion core depressors. I didn't know they even existed until I watched you use them (Game changer!) Thanks Chris!
Happy New Years man. Appreciate the extra effort it takes to post your videos after a day of work, especially as the owner of company. Commercial refrigeration is the best trade out there 💪
Just want to say I started watching your channel knowing almost nothing of HVAC - as I watched, I learned a lot, so thank _you_ for continuing to publish these videos in 2025 and hopefully beyond!
😂😂 @3:50 made me lol an think back to my Dads words when I was a kid and learning Son this is a do as I say NOT as I do !! 🤣🤣🤣 every so often Dad would get bit an of course a few choice words an say well that good for the arthritis…. lol the first time I got bit I just about peed my pants 😂😂😂 But them pressure controllers rarely do I not have to tweak them 🤷🏻♂️ Nice work !! An lol I never remove the plastic protectors 🤣🤣🤣 I let them remove themselves over time or when they get unreadable then an only then do I remove it . After a year or two of use It’s nice to have a un scratch screen to work with ❤❤ (Edited fur a spell boo boo)
Happy new year to you as well and thanks for these videos lots of info and have learned so much from you ...thanks again and let's all kick some HVACR ass in 2025
About the Ice Delivery: many Refrigeration companys here offer services on top of the service call repairs like bringing a cooling trailer with them to the emergency call to store the food befor it would thaw or even deliver ice with their cooling trailer. This is the fastest fix for the customer who will happily pay extra for the convenience and will differentiate them from competitors.
Thanks for another concise, helpful and informative video, Chris. You're my go-to HVAC channel because your videos always have some really useful information in them that helps a lot. I hope you had a great Christmas and wish you (and your family) a happy and prosperous new year!
I do the same thing with my phones, leave the protective plastic on there until it becomes annoying, then I have a smooth glass surface a couple of years in :) I am behind you all the way on that decision :)
Happy New Year everybody! **glances around nervously** I have an eight-year-old Vizio TV that still has the protective film around the frame - including the Energy Guide sticker. And four Seagate external hard drives, a 2012 HP Pavilion micro-tower PC, and two MP3 players that still have protective film on them. The longer you can tolerate that film, the longer your [insert gadget name here] will last. This is especially true with anything that has a polycarbonate (plastic) viewing window. Once that protective film is off, the window is highly susceptible to scratches - especially fine windblown (or finger-wiped) dust. Your manifold set cost a pretty penny, I see no problem in getting your money's worth out of it. 12:01 - After executing a brilliant and well-composed cutaway like that, you're gonna sit there and try to tell us you're not perfect?! 😆 And yes, you raise an excellent point about telling restaurants to get a bulk delivery of ice when the ice machines are down. It will take hours of non-use to fill a medium-sized bin. During a lunch/dinner rush, two dozen 10-lb bags of ice won't last you more than an hour. As I've blabbed on about in the past, I've learned so much from watching you work, even though I'm not in the field. I've learned how to diagnose and maintain my store's equipment, saved hundreds of dollars cleaning coils on in-window AC units (instead of replacing the units when they stopped working well), and I have a much deeper understanding of how automotive AC works (because the basics are universal - compressor, evaporator coil/fan/ducting, condenser coil and fan, high and low pressure cutouts, etc). The main reason I keep coming back is because you are a no-BS tech, you adhere to "Big Picture" mentality, you give the client an honest appraisal and let them make their own decisions, and you always try to do right by them. Your presentation is matter-of-fact, not dramatic-cranked-up-to-10; on the rare moments your exasperation or anger shows through, it's more effective, because you're usually so chill. (Plus, I never know when I'm going to learn some little nugget of info that might come in handy in the future!)
I know you’ve done it before, but I just wanted you to know that I really appreciated the timelapse on the wide view while you were installing the fan cycle control. Made following what you’re doing a lot easier.
Youve given me a better understanding of how this stuff works and its helped me fix a few things instead of having to throw them out like before. Thanks!
Totally agree ran into this many times waiting to the last minute and expect superman to shown up and fill the bin up in an hour crazy even if you fix the problem immediately takes time to fill the bin up.
Chris, I can assure you your videos are priceless your big picture diagnosis process is awesome. I can assure you I learn many different ways to approach troubleshooting units because of your videos. Keep up the great work!
Felicidades Crhis.
There’s a lot of guys that understand this trade but not many that can teach it ..I appreciate every video you do and I’m sure many more do to 💪 keep the videos coming 🫡
Happy New Year Chris!! Love your videos, and your very through troubleshooting skills. I am not in HVAC, (retired electrician) but I do install split units for family and friends. I got gauges, a vacuum pump and the mini split adapters and have watched a lot of videos on recharging/charging HVAC. All the best to you in 2025.
Happy New Year! I'm not a HVAC tech but I am a handyman and enjoy seeing new approaches and new ways to trouble shoot. Have you checked out Bunker Branding for taking care of your merch?
I like using leak sealant with die in it, a black light around the piping . I have found many leaks that way. I know you can't really do that on mini splits . The plastic... lol. Some guys take better care of the things that make them money, I leave mine on as long as I can. I'm jealous of you in 70°F while I'm freezing up in Alberta in -25C or -13F whichever you prefer. I learn a lot from your videos, keep up the good work!

First video of the year! I have a request- could you bring back the kind words and stuff at the end of the videos? I feel like a lot of ppl need it currently

Love the videos, though I am a civilian.
Best wishes for the New Year!
Of all the things you could take from these educational videos...
It's like my Grandma with her couches, drives me nuts
Agreed !
It had also driven me completely crazy. Thanks 👍

Thanks Chris, happy near year to you too, like the new angle for the 'after talk', might be the angle of the camera, but feels a bit more informal.
Awesome, glad you like it
I love the montage music it’s absolute fire 🔥
I bought the last 3xl sweaters you were selling because my wife loves wearing blankets for sweaters. Hope that helped clear your inventory.

you always do good "walk and talk" content (well, not walking, but moving around, describing, point-in-time summaries), but it was nice to see the timelapse approach this time. I'm sure the physical environment doesn't always allow it, but this was cool.
Thanks
Happy new year Chris
The first interesting video of the year 2025, keep up the great work Chris!
Thanks bud
I'm not in the industry, but I love learning new things

Great video Chris. I get more learning than entertainment TBH. I do get entertainment though. Happy New Year.

The plastic... lol. Some guys take better care of the things that make them money, I leave mine on as long as I can.
I'm jealous of you in 70°F while I'm freezing up in Alberta in -25C or -13F whichever you prefer. I learn a lot from your videos, keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching, stay warm out there
