Tails had incredible burst mobility, disjoints on all of his tails for some reason, a great recovery, easy stage control and an excellent anti-shield game. 1.0.3 release Tails was so broken it’s unreal, if they didn’t nerf the Robot, it 100% would have gotten banned. It was unblockable in the first release and near impossible to challenge for most of the cast.

It’s funny you mentioned Lloyd here because the correct answer to this question is actually pre-1.0.3 Beta Lloyd. That version of Lloyd remains (as far as I know) the only character who actually had rules limiting usage of the character because the sword switching mechanic caused the game to lag due to using more processing power. As such, there was a rule introduced as part of the lag clause - “Lloyd’s Llag Clause” which basically meant that if the game was lagging and one of the players was using Lloyd, that player could then be forced to switch off Lloyd. This effectively served as a ban for the character because there was no appetite to play a character that you could be forced off using during a tournament - so Lloyd was basically the only character to get any form of universal tournament ban.

I downloaded SSF2 because I wanted Tails in Smash and this was the best I could do so seeing him in S tier was really cool Unfortunately he got nerfed so bad that now he's like an F or D tier character now
Never played this game online, only locally with my friends on the same keyboard or pluging different keyboards into the computer. Despite only playing with my friends, I realized Tails' potential before they did, especially since a falling air attacks gave you a slight speed boost😂
1.0 Goku and Fox were tricky because 1.0 had such a short lifespan competitively. I do know that almost every Goku player dropped him during the initial release because they didn’t want to get seen as carried, but considering that Goku crashed into low/bottom tier despite only receiving a few minor nerfs, there’s a good chance that people were overestimating how good Kaioken was (i.e. being just as good as it was in 9b when it wasn’t) and interpreting it as Goku being busted in both forms Fox though? Probably would’ve been #1 but I don’t think it reached Tails level. 1.0.3 Tails (which debuted the Tails rework) was so busted that Tails’ Up-B was actually completely unblockable.

If we had to rank Kaio-Ken, I'd place him at a solid A-. As for Base Goku, I'm giving his a C+/B-

One of my friends who actually is a streamer manage to get student of the quarter as well. He Walsh have a better time playing as the Pokémon trainer

The moveset change got rid of the Tail Swipe side B. Debatably the best one in the game that can link to his D-Air smoothly.
