Between Nosferatu getting Techs, Substance getting above the line noms, and Hugh Grant, it looks like horror might be getting taken seriously this year.
The Substance has the momentum factor. 5 Golden Globe nominations, 7 Critics Choice nominations, 3 MUAH’s nominations and made it in the ACE Eddie nominations as well. Pretty good starting
I loved Flow - easily one of my favorite animated films of all time, but the fact it was nominated in the Foreign Language Film category made me chuckle. Those who’ve seen the movie will know why.
I think it also counts on how well they act. While Dune has a huge cast I would not call any of the acting spectacular. It does it job but nothing more
AMPAS loves its bio pics. A Complete Unknown has made NBR, AFI, GG, CC. It is only 1 of 4 times to do that. James Mangold got in for Ford vs Ferrari. He won Oscars for Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon.
I feel like I never agree with the oscars or any of the other award shows. My top 5 of the year is 1. Didi 2. Dune part 2 3. Wicked 4. The Bikeriders 5. Anora
Don"t get why people get so surprised over A Complete Unknown sneaking into Best Picture categories. Yes it has 70% rating but that is far from a bad score. It is a pretty decent score even. It has a better score than the Elvis movie which had like 65% and still got nominated
Transformers One Not getting a Critics Choice. Nomination or Golden Globe nomination is criminal to animation. One of my favorites of the year and one of the best animated films of the year for sure. I liked wild robot more, but it still deserves a mention.
Love to see Marianne Jean Baptiste in Hard Truths for best actress and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor in Nickel Boys for best supporting actress. A well deserved nomination for both of them.
I'm just going to put this out there, if Wicked gets in screenplay at the Oscars, it's winning best picture. It's just going to happen at this point because of all the momentum that has not stopped with this film. If 11 critics Choice nominations are any indication, it's safe to say they like this more than any of the other films this year because they are over the moon for musicals. We'll see what happens, but it's looking incredibly strong at the Golden globes and critics Choice. If it can win sag they're winning Best picture. Chicago did this years ago, it's definitely going to happen this time.
@PowerDiva Barbie still seemed incredibly obscure, especially for an Oscar pic. Wicked is quite the opposite. It's simply a film that the awards voters love too much. From every facet of the film they have found praise and greatness in it. I find it fascinating. How no one is making comparisons to Barbie with Anora and killers of the flower Moon comparisons with the brutalist. If the brutalist was shut out of some of the awards, it means there wasn't as much affection for it as one would hope. Barbie fizzled out because it's messages weren't that relevant or culturally powerful. It's safe to say that wicked messages ring stronger to today than ever before and it might be what the awards voters want and need. I'm just speaking from the facts as gold Derby currently predicts a number 4 pick behind three other films for best picture. Not every best picture nominee when winner has to convey and extremely powerful meaning, but wicked's messages just so happen to be the opposite of Barbies and aren't exactly toxic. They're not as toxic as one would believe as the themes of racism are much more common nowadays the examination of gender roles.

Happy the ensemble cast of the SNL first episode behind the scenes docudrama Saturday Night deservingly got nominated for Best Movie Acting Ensemble. I hope The SAG Awards nominate them as well!
Really hoping Look Back can be nominated for Best Animated Feature at least somewhere, the animation category for this one didn’t disappoint me with this one cause at least it didn’t nominate Moana 2 😂 Flow and Wild Robot getting the respect and attention they deserve tho, I at least gotta be happy with that. Also happy to be seeing all the Dune Part Two and Anora noms, now if only we can get a few for Sing Sing
@@dariussalepetru6770 I mean the first one won that category so it could, though it might have competition with A Real Pain & Saturday Night in that category
@ thank goodness!! I’m anticipating your list. I think I know what number one is based on your other videos. Also Hugh Grant in Heretic is WILD. If he gets SAG then he’s in for the Oscar
This is one of those award year where we don't any outright sweep by any movie, it was bit weak year for movies compared to TV where shogun is dominating
Oh God, Stop with Wicked slander.. So many people including me ENJOYED the movie so much in Theaters.. The movie made my day better.. Why people disrespect musicals like this? Wicked is deep and emotional. Emila parez on other hand IS overrated and don't deserve so many noms.. Acting is the best part of the movie..

Emilia Pérez is an AWEFUL movie and I don’t think the cast is good. I love Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez SO MUCH, but they’re terrible casting choices, they can’t speak Spanish, especially Gomez, and Saldana can’t sing.
This is why when the online reaction to the Golden Globes stuff came out I was trying to tell people that “this is not what the end goal of other awards organizations will be”. Am I right on that Austin? These movies all being nominated do feel way more in line with the Oscars.
I need to start watching the movies nominated. These nominations are better than the Globes. I'm very happy to see Kneecap ☘️☘️☘️🇮🇪🇮🇪 get nominated for foreign language film and there was justice for Sing Sing, Nickel Boys and Marianne Jean-Baptiste
I say it every time that they need a horror category. Stop snubbing horror. Good to at least see some get nominated but it really needs it's own category.
Emilia Perez is so boring. I tried forcing myself to finish it but I couldn’t. 2024 is a musical juggernaut when it comes to movies and I hated every single one of them from Joker 2 to Wicked to Emilia Perez

Demi Moore and Hugh Grant...yay!!!!

They snubbed Hundreds of Beavers in best comedy.
Yep
Forgot about it while I was doing

That was third on my ballot :(

Emilia Pérez has like 4 people in the cast

I think it also counts on how well they act. While Dune has a huge cast I would not call any of the acting spectacular. It does it job but nothing more
Your logic is not logicking.
Dune part two is epic and the substance is one heck of a roller coaster ride.
Had a big grin that Thelma got a nomination. Overall great lists.

Man every moment of joy coming from Austin looking at these awards nominees, comes with such pain and disappointment whenever Emilia Perez shows up 😂
😂😂😂 so much pain
Good morning Austin! 🌄🌅
The Wild Robot should be in the best picture category imo
Glad to see Hugh Grant getting some love. 👍

Great video- which are more strongly correlated with oscars= these or GG x
The Substance
Heretic
Nosferatu

Wicked for Cinematography is crazy. ;DD Will probably happen at Oscars too.
Doubt it for cinematography or director either the Oscar group is very highbrow

Why was Wicked snubbed from Editing? 😱
