Hugh Grant getting awards attention for Heretic is so insane and amazing to me
Him and Demi getting in for horror movies would be amazing
@@bryanalstoncoxing Unfortunately I think it’s unlikely he’ll make it to the Oscars (Brody, Chalamet, Fiennes, Craig and Domingo seem like a pretty sure bunch) but I think Demi has a chance
@@bryanalstoncoxing and I don’t like horror. But the performances are solid.
@@somecanadiangirl1 I agree with you on this. Grant probably won’t make the Oscars cut.
@@somecanadiangirl1agreed
I'm so happy Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley got nominated. I really hope they take this momentum to the Oscars, Oscar nominations for the substance would be great
Id rather be clever instead
I won't let that get to my head
I dont care i paint the town red
I think people are thinking of the Demi Moore noms the wrong way. Too much focus on it being horror film because of prior year snubs like Hereditary. I see Demi as a comeback and they love comebacks: Brendan Fraser, Jamie Lee Curtis, Mickey Rooney, etc. She may not win but I’d bet on her getting the nom.
True, very true! Moore has never been in the Oscar conversation. I think this performance can do it for her!
@@jhhone Ghost?
Remember, Viola Davis was nominated for an Oscar for Doubt and was only in one scene in the entire movie. So it happens. Nominations for Rossellini in a small role wouldn't be unheard of.
Same thing Judi Dench in Shakespeare In Love. I think she won.
@@Sorcerer76 u can't compare what Viola Davis did in doubt to rosellini in conclave
Viola was acting opposite thee meryl streep and she outshined meryl
Davis was in one long scene and she HAD A LOT TO WORK WITH. Rossellini on the other hand, was basically a cameo with a few lines of dialogue and in the background most of her extremely limited screentime.
@@singstreetcar5881 i haven't seen Conclave so i can't speak to what she did or didn't do in that movie. I'm just saying that length of screen time doesn't necessarily correlate to whether or not a nomination will be given.
@@Sorcerer76 yeah but if the length doesn't have any impact, it doesn't matter....rosellini's nominations are just because of her family name
I’ve said for a while that Demi Moore didn’t have much chance of getting into the Oscars this year, seeing as how The Substance is a horror film (which the Academy doesn’t often like). Seeing her make the nominations for a lot of these early ceremonies is starting to give me hope that she makes the cut this year. I mean, she has the Brendan Fraser comeback story of this year, so there’s that at least. I just hope I don’t end up eating my words come Oscar announcement morning.
Thing about ‘The Substance’ it’s the most subversive, fun and interesting movie of the year. Everything feels Oscar baity, but TS was a breath of fresh air with great leading performances.
The thing is a lot of women (even those who don't like horror) like THE SUBSTANCE. Older voters still hate it but it can win enough votes for a nom.
...That's why it's getting nominated across the board with the critics groups awards and Golden Globes. Best Picture, Director and Screenplayand then Demi and Margaret
The average age of the Academy is 63. They will remember how successful Demi was in late 80s and early 90s. Imo, she is going to win.
IDK about you guys, but every time Brian says 'Holy cow' makes me very happy😅
Another reason The Substance is doing so well is because it’s a movie about show business, which awards bodies like to pat themselves on the back with in acknowledging how dark, shady and cutthroat it can be, especially if it’s outrageously funny with a fierce, Gloria Swanson-style “REMEMBER ME!?” comeback performance at its centre. In that way, The Substance is the most Hollywood movie here. 😊
Justin Kuritzkes getting a screenplay nomination the year after his wife, Celine Song, gets the same nomination for Past Lives ❤ we love a talented & successful couple
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT. Good for them!
LETS GOOOOO THE SUBSTANCE
The substance 7 nominations i would've never believed it, let's start pushing it for best editing like come on!
Yea. The editing in that film is a reason why it’s story so brilliantly unfolds, and also is in part responsible for the impact of certain scenes.
It would be crazy if Demi went all the way and won the Oscar.
That would be AMAZING.
No Fernanda Torres in “I’m Still Here” for best actress? She was brutally snubbed! Shameful.
Americans and canadians rarely watch foreign móveis. Probably they only watched Emília perez
@@saraamwwell they can get nominated for in the acting category depending on how well the foreign movie with foreign lead go
As much as I would love to see her there, they preferred Cynthia Erivo and "Wicked", which is more popular... it is so unfortunate tho
they really are allergic to subtitles, so stupid
@@saraamw The Substance is about as French as Emilia Perez.
Wicked got the most nominations and wow no Nicole Kidman for lead actress
Surprisingly, she didn’t..,
But remember, SAGs, BAFTAs and Oscars… only 5 slots. 😢
Pamela Anderson and Felicity Jones also missed unlike previous nominations.
I have sooooo much hope for the substance
Imagine how young the acting awards could potentially be this year:
Actor: Chalamet
Actress: Madison
Supporting Actor: Culkin
Supporting Actress: Grande
That might be the youngest combined age ever for the acting categories, if it went that way!
Why do yall really think grande is gonna win over industry veteran who been due for this for years
They don't care about it @@fredamurphy7827
@@fredamurphy7827 The media
@@fredamurphy7827that logic doesn’t always apply in awards.
@ I'm not saying she's going to win, I literally used the word "potentially"
Well i'll be damned.....Hugh Grant has a chance.
Telling you now the win goes to either Jolie or my own choice Demi Moore
The win for who got more unnecessary stuff done to her face?! U know... Yeah... Makes sense. U just gotta be more specific)
I 100% agree with you.
@@benjicarey5870 I think Demi Moore’s narrative works in favor of the nom and - dare I say - the Oscar winning…
Emilia Perez is the biggest gaslight of the season tbh.
RIP Amy Adams.
I’m confused why people don’t think Erivo will happen. She literally got an Oscar nom for a worse movie.
Amy Adams seems to be one of those actors the Academy loves to nominate but has no intention of awarding for some reason, like Glenn Close and Bradley Cooper.
@robfuzz Glenn actually was exceptional in The Deliverance. She carried the film, and I believe she should have been nominated somewhere. Amy is starting to feel like the Academy's new"Glenn Close" and it's shameful!
Is The Substance this year’s Everything Everywhere All at Once?
Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, Coralie Fargeat and Hugh Grant getting noms for genre films is both shocking and welcomed. Should we have hope for the Oscars, BAFTA and SAG? The Substance is my horse for this year’s race (and this year’s underdog). I am feeling how I felt for Everything Everywhere All At Once 👈🏼 it seemed too far fetched, like such a weird movie, and look how well it went. Is TS the little movie that could? 🤞🏼
I love that Marianne Jean-Baptiste in “Hard Truths” and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor in “Nickel Boys” received a nomination. They were brilliant performances I’ve seen this year.
I think Marianne Jean-Baptiste might be the person to beat. I think she’s going to win the BAFTA.
Why isn’t The Substance not getting any nominations for Sound, Cinematography or even Production Design or Costumes???
In an ideal world, The Substance would get 9+ Oscar noms across the board - above the line and tech. It looks like this year's Pulp Fiction - arguably the year's most significant film but probably won't get a whole lot of Oscar love.
I'm glad Dune got both best director, picture and screenplay
I think Fargeat is going to pull a Justine Triet. Villeneuve gets snubbed again.
Where is Nicole Kidman ? I am shocked..and now I am worried she might get snubbed at Bafta, SAG and Oscar..Hope she is not done 😮😮😮
😮😮😮😮 exactly …this was weird.
She's getting Bafta i think, but missing the Oscars
@@caiolucas8257Many critics don’t see Babygirl yet. So I don’t surprise she didn’t nominee.
If She win Golden Globe over Angelina Jolie, She come back to awards season again. Need SAG nod + put BAFTA longlist.
I want to say “Maria” is don’t good movie. ☹️☹️☹️
Nicole has nominations on top of nominations and an Oscar win. Nicole is going to be ok.
@robertcanada5106 I hope so..rooting for Nicole to win 2nd Oscar, ..her reviews on her new film Babygirl majority said her best work to date
You will LOOOVE Angelina's Jolie performance!!She is PHENOMENAL!!
I have to say I watched it really hoping she would blow me away… but she didn’t. She didn’t look like Maria Callas and her speaking voice was on and off, not always sounding like her. And since the movie itself is so so (script wise), I feel like if she gets in, it’s in the bottom.
@@idoknysame here.
Her lip sync was NOT so phenomenal
@@Tricki_Woo yes I agree!that was the only negative part, but on the whole she was GREAT. she sounded like Kallas and she was so moving, human, but at the same simple and sharp
@@Tricki_Woo She sashayed away
Regarding Best Actress:
I feel Jolie is vulnerable. She and Kidman are duking it out for the same slot. There’s too much great acting to arbitrarily cram two “movie stars” into the category.
This is such a smash year in Best Actress, specifically because so many of the contenders are in (potential) Best Picture nominees.
Babygirl and Maria are not in that race. Anora and Emilia Perez definitely are. Wicked probably is. Hard Truths and I’m Still Here are darkhorse contenders, I could see them both missing Picture noms, but there seems to be more passion those films than for Kidman’s and Jolie’s.
Then there’s The Substance, which remains the biggest Schroedinger’s Best Picture nom/winner in Oscar history for now. Whether it makes the ten or not, it’s certainly closer to it than Maria or Babygirl are.
The sensible nominees at Oscar for now are Madison and Gascon. I go back and forth on Erivo by the minute, but ultimately, I think the sequel promises the bulk of Elphaba’s arc, so they have the opportunity to come back not just to her - but to her work on this character. So I’m hedging on them dropping her this time and coming back around next year, when I’m sure we’ll be comparatively famished.
Maclin didn’t make the Globes because he’s not famous enough. They only care about proximity to cultural capital.
If anybody can stop what felt like an inevitable Guy Pearce steamroll, I think Maclin may be our man. Kulkin gives me Ryan Gosling in Barbie vibes. Maybe not “second place” but certainly a crowd favourite.
I know Anora is seriously in contention for picture, but I wonder if Borisov is an investment in Hollywood’s eyes? Everyone knows Kieran as Macaulay’s brother, and they all watched him in Succession and respect him now. Guy Pearce has been doing great work since the 90’s and is some measure overdue for some awards love. Denzel and Norton are both historical favs just showing off at this point. And Maclin has the potential to give us a really heartwarming ascension to stardom. I think it’s tough to pick the new foreign guy over that crew of charismatic men.
The important thing to remember is that Borisov winning doesn’t guarantee an Anora sweep. I don’t really see it taking Actress and Supporting Actor and nothing else, it’s gotta get Picture or Director or Screenplay along the way, but it’s possible.
If they give Isabella Rossellini the Jamie Lee Curtis treatment I will be THRILLED.
#TeamSubstance
Yay Hugh Grant/Heretic🎉
I watched Maria twice back to back yesterday and again for a third time this morning. Jolie's performance was absolutely extraordinary! I dare to say that this film showcases her greatest work to date! No other actress in contention for an Academy Award nomination in the lead actress category comes close to the brilliance of Jolie's flawless performance! 💯🎭🏆
👀
She deserves all the awards
She is okay but it is an extremely easy role. And the singing mix was strange, it was not like Farinelli.
The Felicity Jones snub was so unexpected that you didn't even notice 😂
Right?? My brain assumed she was there for some reason. An egregious omission!
@@TheAwardsContender It's unfair that Saoirse Ronan isn't nominated even though she gave it her all in this performance for The outrun and Blitz
@@TheAwardsContender I doubt many critics don’t see Babygirl (Nicole Kidman) yet.
But she need SAG nod + put BAFTA longlist.
Hugh Grant is the only Musical/Comedy Globe Actor Nominee in here.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Grant wins the Golden Globe award.
It makes ZERO sense nominating the brutalist for best picture, director, lead actor and supporting actor but no supporting actress.
Forrest Gump was nominated for Oscar for Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actor but not Supporting Actress.
Who would you take out for her?
@@Themeparkanxietyrossellini 💔 :)
Tbh @Themeparkanxiety one of the first three slots
Felicity can't act.
Isabella is also the daughter of Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini. There must be at least a few academy members who know who they are.
Oscar for the best pedigree?
Hugh Grant literally won at Bafta for 4 weddings and a funeral and wasn’t nominated for the Oscar.
And he got a lot of nominations in the best supporting actor category for Florence Foster Jenkins alongside Meryl Streep
@ I think the oscars must have beef with Hugh grant
I personally do not understand the nomination of Isabella Rosellini. I admire her personality and her aura. But the best actress should be someone who proves her acting skills in the role. About her role, or rather her presence in the Conclave, it can be said that any at least slightly good actress would play her exactly the same.
I think it's some reaction to many co-leads in The supporting. I mean, fraud all over.
I want to see Sing Sing so badly. It makes me mad that it isn't available to stream yet.
I'm no film critic 🎥, but an Oscar nomination for Coralie Fargeat (The Substance) feels straightforward and inevitable. She's a fresh talent with a unique style ✨ and an innovative vision 🌈. The Academy is sure to recognize that-no surprises here!
I love your awards presentations!!!!!❤
Yes Emilia Perez and The Substance!
Do you think Demi Moore has a path to win the Oscar? I feel like if she’s getting nominated and the movie is getting into a bunch of other categories she can go all the way
I guess in the end it can still go either way. Oscar/the industry may not respond well to it being a body horror but I still think there's a high chance she can still make it. The globe win would really help imo
No.
If she gets in at SAG. I think she has a chance there because she has a lot of industry goodwill.
If Cynthia doesn’t get nominated at the Oscars, it’ll be one of the biggest snubs in years!! so thrilled that she got nominated here & the Globes
Cynthia has gotten everywhere so far that she has been eligible for! So I really think she is lock.
I am so happy Alisha Weir got a nomination! I've sort of calmed down from my Abigail craze but I still think Weir's performance in that movie is absolutely spectacular. I'd even argue there's a case to be made for giving her a Best Actress nomination (or Best Supporting Actress if we allow a bit of category fraud). It's genuinely one of the best things I've seen this year.
Totally agree. Out of all the young actors in that category I think it's fair to say Alisha had the biggest task to accomplish. From lead role to the psychological challenge, playing an adult in a child's body. Learning ballet, doing her own stunts and all while pulling off an American accent.
Solid top ten list for Best Picture!!
Miley Cyrus (Beautiful That Way) is winning all trophies especially the Oscar. 😍😍
It's unfair that Saoirse Ronan isn't nominated even though she gave it her all in this performance for The outrun and Blitz
Was not expecting that Felicity Jones miss 😳
I also think Selene Gomez isn't getting into the Oscars. Qualley has a higher chance than her to be honest lmao
Gomez didn't do much in that movie
Damn I’m kinda annoyed A Real Pain didn’t get picture, one of the best of the year
It’s more of a screenplay + acting type of film so I wasn’t surprised. I didn’t predict it for the top 10. Searchlights pictures will likely only get one in and A Complete Unknown feels more prestigious
I loved Flow getting nominated for best foreign language film even tho there’s no dialogue lmao
The Substance's success is more evidence to the theory that a well loved genre film can get awards love if it has a very strong feminist and/or racial message
Really just a strong message/vision. The Substance did have a strong message about the impossibly beauty standards women face in our society, but additionally it has a message about the dangers of hating yourself and then finding a way to love yourself. That's what makes it so good. It something everyone can relate to in different ways.
@@praxtonTotally agreed with your viewpoint. I think calling it a “feminist” film does it a disservice and it’s reductive, when the film is so much more than that, and that’s why a lot of the people who watched it, loved it. Because there’s something so human about it, we can all identify with. Who hasn’t r struggled with insecurity, loving themselves, the subconscious or conscious self harm.
@simplyrowen But you're undercutting a big part of the film, which is how Demi's character has to struggle far more with these issues, as an aging actress, than men of a similar age. Men are the most sought-after movie audience, so industry standards cleave to their preferences. So critiquing those preferences is powerfully feminist. And it's not reductive to say so. Let's not take the film entirely out of its context.
I think September 5 is getting BAFTA Picture and these nominations it got here will likely carry nicely to the Oscars.
Very curious how it performs seems like that dark horse that just isn’t going away
American and British cultures are not as relevant as in the past and are becoming “regional”, not leading standard outstanding references in film making. International festivals and awards are gaining more recognition and importance. Fernanda Torres got standing ovations in international festivals. Fernanda, Angelina and Marianne will be nominated for the 2025 Cannes.
disappointed not to see Nicole in best actress.... :(
Rossellini is giving the Jamie Lee Curtis vibe this year. Anyone else in the role wouldn’t have been in, but the nepotism. 😅
Jamie Lee is a great actress in spite of the nepotism
@ oh I definitely agree. Both are. I am referring to it helping in roles that wouldn’t get many people recognized.
@ true, I really enjoyed her performance in everything everywhere but when I saw her nominated and win I was shocked
WHERE ARE KIDMAN and RONAN?!?!?!
I am not convinced that Ariana Grande will be an Oscar winner for acting.
i think she's the front runner right now.
She’s the front runner now but I guarantee that when Oscar voting begins, a lot of them won’t vote for her. They’ll go with a more “serious” performance from an established actor like Zoe Saldana or something.
@ hmm I don’t know. They gave one to Jamie Lee Curtis who played a very unserious role. Ariana Debose in a musical, so why would you think they give it only to serious roles when those winners exists
@@iandon4891but Jamie Lee was a career Oscar.
@@jacklemm1518predict Saldana (kinda category fraud but not a snowball's chance in hell in Best Actress against Gascon, Madison and Jolie), maybe Rossellini because it's so bizarre she hasn't ever been nominated or Felicity Jones as a safe choice.

Always excited to see your reactions! Awesome to see love for The Substance
It’s gonna be a battle on who’s gonna be that fifth slot for best actor. Let the battle of the Brits begin!
I feel like the best actor oscar nominations are the one category that is locked. Brody, Chalamet, Craig, Domingo and Fiennes seem like the clear (and deserved) picks here!
@@FrisoJacobsCraig is not a lock.
Go Angie, her presence in the screen is just amazing and the fact that she learned how to sing the opera was pretty impressive. She is a great actor with an amazing presence. I have watched Maria x2 and I just love how she fills the screen.
The Substance is the only chance for a female director to be nominated.
This awards season is shaping up to be one the strongest and most iconic in years impo. Every one in the acting categories is a strong contender, each top film is a strong contender for Best Picture/Film and all the top films for tech/VFX/production values are all also strong contenders. Like let’s say Wicked or Emilia Perez sweeps, that’d be fine. The Brutalist and Anora can battle it out for the top prizes with Conclave and A Complete Unknown being outliers. Then we can’t leave out The Substance, Nickel Boys, Sing Sing and even The Wild Robot.
You don't even understand that Dune part 2 defines a new standard for scifi for the next decade, at least
@ does it really do all that?
Angelina Jolie was excellent in MARIA. She will get an Oscar nomination.
I still think Nicole will get nom
Guy Pearce getting love makes me feel particularly patriotic as an Aussie. Makes up for the Kidman snub lol
Oscars wins …

Dench (Shakespeare in Love) 5m52
Rossellini 7m51
Perhaps performance + personal narrative = a win
somewhere this season!
Hoping Zendaya would've gotten in for Challengers but excited for Demi in Substance!! Rossellini could win even though I haven't seen that movie yet. It had better be a wallop of a scene though. Beatrice Straight won for a single scene but it was a memorable doozy!
Angelina Jolie’s performance was perfection in Maria she deserves all the awards and definitely the OSCAR !!
Did not know where to place this comment. Just watched Conclave. Awesome! Don't surprised to see John Lithgow nominated.
Best supporting actor: I wonder if Stanley Tucci still has chances to sneak into the Oscars. (I personally didn’t think his performance was that impactful but I assumed he will ride along)
So happy for The Substance The Best 2024 movie. All my love for the two Best 2024 performaces Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley.I hope Academy Awards for both plus the screenplay and the director ❤❤❤❤❤
Substans let’s celebrate!
I don’t want to be smug about it but we watched Heretic with my hubby last week and when we got out of the cinema I told him Hugh Grant is going to be a player this awards season. I hope he gets into more ceremonies - genre movie nominations are always super cool!
Wtf you didn't even care about Nicole Kidman 😢😢😢😢
No Nicole Kidman for Babygirl.
No Nicole Kidman for Babygirl is surprising
Not to be a hater, but whoever is pushing Selena Gómez as this Oscar-deserving actress is simply pathetic, AND specially for that horrible spanish attempt.
No Nicole Kidman. Wow!
Nicole Kidman is my winner for Babygirl
I’m really glad to see that list. I tend to think this will be the Oscars … also I’m with you about Craig.
Loved seeing Hugh Grant get nominated for “Heretic”
Jolie gets in but Kidman does NOT?!
Marianne Jean Baptist is spot on. Love Mike Leigh, and as i said earlier, I love her work and can't wait to see it in January
Best Supporting Actress Oscar: possibly Rossellini vs. Saldana. Maybe Deadwyler consolation prize nom for egregious snub for Till. Qualley is young, there's time to acknowledge her. Would love Ellis-Taylor but don't see a nom happening.
The Substance maintains momentum
Emilia Perez, A Real Pain, and Challengers lose some steam
Jean Baptist and Clarence Maclin are back in the game
Nicole Kidman and Felicity Jones get a little jab
Fernanda Torres for best actress, her performance is jus incredible
Was pulling for Nicole to get in! 😢
I think what you’re forgetting when you compare the substance to hereditary, is that the substance has gotten universal acclaim and love from audiences and critics. Hereditary on the other hand was HATED when it was first released. It was so polarizing that people were calling Toni Collette a bad actress. It was rough out there. 😂
So beyond thrilled for The Brutalist & The Substance - my favourite films of 2024. 👏
Happy to see Dune Part 2 & Denis back in the mix. 🙌
Felicity Jones should be nominated!!!
Demi Moore is my Cinderella underdog choice to win Best Actress at the Oscars
I wouldn't be so sure Nicole Kidman gets in at SAG
She's never won for film!!!!😂
despite being nominated many times
I love Selena Gomez and Felicity Jones getting swapped for Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Danielle Deadwyler.
Both Aunjanue and Danielle deserved.
Action, drama, comedy, fantasy, horror, sci-fi, musical, biography. What genre isn’t here for the Best Picture noms? Nice list!!
This this so much this

Emilia Perez did not WOW me at all. I would swap Kidman for Gascon IMO. Best Supp. Actor- noms are perfect IMO.....all ok with me....but I worry Yuri...might be the change with the Oscars (?). Best Supp. Actress- they got this category RIGHT...lol...(yea ! Magaret !)....again.....Oscar noms MAY differ....but who..? ....maybe Aunjanue (?). Just remember.some of .the really short screen time winners of Supp. Actress....ie....Judi Dench....Beatrice Straight and Isabella's mother---Ingrid Bergman...just sayin' lol. Best Director noms....all expected/ok. I have a feeling Villeneuve may miss at the Oscars, (?)....Fargeat...Ross..?? Best Screen Play all good here.... but maybe Hard Truths at Oscars .Best Adapted Screenplay- all good here...but......?...
