Where music was at the forefront of pushing social justice reform into the mainstream. Bob led the way. Then went his own way. Fracturing folk music & it's instrumental influence.
Wicked is probably the best film of 2024 along with Dune 2 and The Substance and probably the best musical in the last 75 years, it deserves every award including the Oscar for best picture.
I loved the cinematography for wicked. It looked different than every other movie category this year. Visually it stands out amongst the rest. Also interesting that we’re only hating on the only female nominated for cinematography.

Very minor thing but I think for these types of nominations that get posted instead of announced, maybe you could get a third person to read them out so your reactions are in sync. Kind of too much effort to get a third person, I know, but I really enjoy it if any surprises get the both of you at the same time.
I have a feeling NICKEL BOYS has the potential to surge as the awards season wears on. I think it stands a great chance to be a major challenger in the Supporting Actress and especially the Adapted Screenplay categories.
I think that any movie that has a unique filmmaking gimmick is pretty easy to predict for the Oscar’s. Son of Saul, The Artist, Birdman, and Zone of Interest are all examples of this.

I have a feeling NICKEL BOYS has the potential to surge as the awards season wears on. I think it stands a great chance to be a major challenger in the Supporting Actress and especially the Adapted Screenplay categories.
I think that any movie that has a unique filmmaking gimmick is pretty easy to predict for the Oscar’s. Son of Saul, The Artist, Birdman, and Zone of Interest are all examples of this.
It looks like MGM‘s next Women Talking, getting Picture and Adapted Screenplay and nothing else.

last 3 years (since oscars have done 10 noms) they’ve been 8/10, 7/10, 9/10. so i’d say they’ve got a solid 8 or 9 here, a real pain likely to sneak in over complete unknown imo
