Previous format was a lot better. The combo of you to being together makes me feel like I'm sitting in your living room chatting with you guys. Now it looks like I'm on a zoom call with two people.
I still like the wider shot with the full couch so we can se the kitty or the adorable Spaniels come december. This shot is confusing we dont know what the heck you guys are looking at.
@ this pretty much ensures a globe nomination though. In Drama they could’ve easily just snubbed her due to it being horror. Remember they didn’t even nominate Toni Collette in drama
I'm liking this format for predictions! I think the mics could be closer to you guys, but this is a new format, you're testing the waters, this is still very good. It gives it a podcast-y feel. I said it in a previous vid, but I'm so glad the classic graphics are back.

I enjoyed this new camera set up. But maybe you can also try a wider shot with you across from each other. The separation in the middle of the shot kinda throws me off. As always thanks for the lively discussion.
The setup seems less personal. I enjoy viewing body language, hand gestures in full, looking at stuff on the couch, and the occasional pet cameo. Bottomline, Only directors nominate directors, the academy and the audience have less influence on the nominations. Still, I just saw Conclave. Cinematic craftsmanship of the highest order. The artistic choices the Director made in service of the story were smart and focused. A European sensibility as opposed to an edgy, predictable Hollywood style. Damn entertaining.
1. I prefer your previous format for cat and “putting films to bed” purposes. 2. I think and have been saying that Wicked will be the big dark horse tech player and in addition to the acting Jon Chu has been getting a lot of praise in early reviews and he’s proven in his previous films that he has a strong style. I really think Wicked should be in your top 7. 3. If Villeneuve (my favorite director) gets snubbed in favor of Coralie Fargeat, I will never say anything bad about the Oscars ever again.
Love that you're trying something visually new in this recording. I think different backgrounds would work better. Also, please match your eyelines. A lot of the comments mention missing the cat. If there's a way to have reaction shot "cataways" this might help. Otherwise, stick with the tried and true setup.
As a fan of The Substance, feel like we all need to step a bit outside of our bubble here. The Substance has some bigtime critics who hated it and there's a large swath of the academy voter population that just will not go for it. It's not the universally loved twitter hit that youre portraying it as.
I think we’re gonna see a repeat of the Shakespeare in Love / Saving Private Ryan year with Anora and The Brutalist. Corbet takes director and a bunch of techs and throw in Brody as well. Anora wins Pic, Actress and Screenplay
The substance is easily one of the two best female directed films of all time. I hope Fargeat gets a director nomination. The film is extreme and not a normal awards contender but it is exceptionally well made and unforgettable.
I hate the way the release of the films influence their chances ☠️ if Dune: part two came out now I think it would be a strong frontrunner. I can feel people forgetting how impressive that movie was… I would feel so represented by the academy with Nolan and Villeneuve winning best director back to back.
I appreciate the trying of a new setup, I much prefer the previous setup. I think you had it right when you said the new one is very podcast like and just speaking for myself, we already have too many bros with podcasts lol Still props to you for trying new stuff and for making the videos!
New format is pretty good if you guys feel like you are benefitting from looking at one another. The previous format was fine and this isn't much of an improvement but the more conversational dynamic between you both is good and if you both enjoy that then this is a nice change.
Sorry I can’t warm to this format 😭 - find it weird & alienating. Love the simple, unpretentious domesticity of the medium shot of you 2 on a couch at home, Cole stroking your cat, or in some air bnb somewhere. I actually love that you 2 are all about the substance (no pun intended) rather than techy set ups & gimmicks.
What you guys didn’t address or think about is that if Dennis Villeneuve gets nominated, he has very strong chances to win, because out of all those other nominees, he has the longest Hollywood career. Many academy members vote for their friends and for people they worked with who they love. Villeneuve is very beloved. If I’m Amy Adams, I might vote for my favorite film to win (not Dune 2) but you bet your behind I’m voting for Villeneuve. Just think of the amount of people who have worked with him who are academy members.
Guys, I just saw Mexico’s Pedro Páramo 🎉. I hope you guys can see it. I don’t know if it will go all the way, regardless I hope you can give it a shot. It is based in arguably one of the most important literary works in Mexico. I think you will enjoy it. Avoid spoilers.
I think you could do both video formats with it staying as the two of you on the couch but occasionally editing into these closeups of your face sometimes

P.S. look me up on The Awards Expert app @poihpio98 for more wrong predictions and even wronger favourites!
@kylejohnson4615 Barbie came out with 140M+ while Oppenheimer had 85M. That didn't stop Oppy from being perceived well. Whether it's great or good is a different story but the box office perception won't hinder it at all.
@rafaelcruz9973 Less than Wicked?? He has a better track record than Jon M Chu I know that for sure. I'll come back here after OW just to prove it lol.
i feel like y’all are underestimating challengers! a huge crowd pleaser and culturally relevant and it made money! id have that above emilia perez the substance a real pain easily
I like the new format. I think a lot of the reason ppl are averse is simply because it's something new, but it definitely gives the video a more dynamic and "alive" feel. The other format did get a bit dull and a bit too redundant. Maybe this format could be used for certain videos like these that are more discussion based.
Emilia Perez’ Letterboxd score keeps going down. It hasn’t even dropped on Netflix yet and it’s gonna drop more when people are watching it on their couch instead of a theater
How does the fact that "Everything Everywhere All At Once" WON best picture affect the arguments against including a "weird" or "genre" film in a Best Picture lineup?
Wicked is building. Glinda has always been the show stealer to Elphaba’s vocal power. Also, Glinda has a stronger first act. I think the main thing holding it back would be grande’s pop star status. Hopefully she won’t get Jloed.
I appreciated the Vortex joke, but, personally, I liked the previous camera setup better. I don't know if people are taking The Substance completely seriously. But I do think they are taking their love for it seriously.
I think Saturday Night has a real good shot at landing a nom for Original Screenplay. It is entertaining, well written, very well-orchestrated with all the many characters and it has that original indie feel to it that the academy often favors in this category.
@@JacobthePug Perhaps you're right, but on the other hand Hollywood always loves a good Hollywood film about Hollywood - plus it's an actor's movie meaning lots of potential voters so there might be a little more hope than what the box office indicates.
Now that I’ve had the chance to watch The Substance, I think it’s goose-egged. Demi Moore is barely in it, Margaret Qualley is spectacular, the first hour is brilliant, and the third act is, unfortunately, way too silly.
Previous format was a lot better. The combo of you to being together makes me feel like I'm sitting in your living room chatting with you guys. Now it looks like I'm on a zoom call with two people.
Exactly. Previous look was more unique and just fun. This is very covid/now and boring
Gosh, you’ve pinpointed why I hate it. Lockdown flashbacks
Agteed
I definitely liked and preferred the previous format. This looks more disjointed and more distant, even as a viewer.
I like seeing you guys together on the sofa… and how am I supposed to see my favorite kitty😢
😿
I miss the kitty
we’re close to reaction season
THE SUBSTANCE HIVE WE STILL HERE
Previous format was better. It felt very home-y and cosy which made it stand out, now it's just like all others.
real ones remember when the screen went white
🙌
Me!! I wrote them a long ass comment about the new video format now i'm too tired to do that again
@@samy7174 😂😂saw that!
Yeah
The Zone of Interest (2023)
I miss the cat. Meow.
Me too 🐈😿
I still like the wider shot with the full couch so we can se the kitty or the adorable Spaniels come december. This shot is confusing we dont know what the heck you guys are looking at.
Love this channel as always, it does change the dynamic. Feels less engaging, support yall no matter what. But i def prefer the old format.
This year is so weird and with so many movies that are just "ok" that for Challengers to have 0 chances hurts me a lot...
That's what I am saying because damn the current best picture nomination roaster is as you said, "ok" and it sucks to see
It has been like this since the pandemic
I can take out Audiard for Fargeat. I can. I will. Even if Oscars doesn't.
“The Substance” deserves a best picture, best actress and best screenplay nominations.
I would substitute screenplay with director. The writing is solid, but what makes it stand out is the directing.
@@benjamintillema3572 I actually agree with you on the director comment … it’s just a harder category to get into.
Thank you for subscribing to The Substance 😈
Substance being categorized as comedy at Globes helps it I think cause then it’s almost certain Demi gets in there
I think she could have WON Actress/Drama. She'll get nominated either way though.
@ this pretty much ensures a globe nomination though. In Drama they could’ve easily just snubbed her due to it being horror. Remember they didn’t even nominate Toni Collette in drama
4/5 first time nominees in Best Director would be pretty insane
It happens much more often in expanded, I believe half of the last decade with 2015,2016,2017,2020,2022
@cartermartin6795 good point actually
Previous format is better, it feels more natural, like seeing two experts in the same room talking to each other. This was much more stiff.
You guys are getting me hyped for awards season, let's go!!!
Love the video as always, but the new camera is way worse imo. The wide shot is more personal and we get to see the cat

Wicked for a BP nomination!!!!! Im here for it!
SUBSTANCE GANG RISE UP!
I really like the camera blocking you looking at each other and the champ-contrechamp.
The debate is better in this format.
I like this new format. Makes it easier to follow the discussion.
That lighting is hitting those jawlines JUUUUST RIGHTTT 👌🏼 and the 3/4 profile shots definitely help 👏🏼😍
I’m less than a minute in and I can definitively say I prefer the previous format. Please return to that. No need to fix what’s not broken
I love the new format.
The setup seems less personal. I enjoy viewing body language, hand gestures in full, looking at stuff on the couch, and the occasional pet cameo.

Nice camera set up. I dig it! Just improve the mic audio a tad and it'd be great. Awesome video as always.
Loving the new camera setup! Although I think ya'll should keep the traditional shot for reaction videos
THE SUBSTANCE DESERVES THAT NOMINATION FOR SCREENPLAY
I just need Brady Corbet in.
After having seen Anora I simply do not believe that it will win best picture. I would be quite shocked
The new format is much more dynamic. I like it a lot better. Some of the haters are blinded by nostalgia but this looks very professional.
LOVE the new format!!
Love that u guys tried something new but i do love the old format
Emilia perez is such a mess. Netflix campaigning a mid movie as usual.
THE SUBSTANCE PLEASEE
Amazing video again guys. I love all your reasoning
I appreciate this „Vortex“ inspiration! Underrated film.
I think the previous format looked better, but the conversation flowed better here than it has before imo.
good job guys with the new format, I prefer this than the previous one by a lot

Love that you're trying something visually new in this recording. I think different backgrounds would work better. Also, please match your eyelines. A lot of the comments mention missing the cat. If there's a way to have reaction shot "cataways" this might help. Otherwise, stick with the tried and true setup.
Who turned on the extra handsome lighting?
I like the previous format better
I like this format for an occasional video. Or if predictions were in this format but reactions were in the OG format
A positive aspect. You guys look more handsome. The lighting. The angle. I prefer the old format but you guys have that going for you.
I like the original format- it was fun too see your cat sitting next to you guys
The substance is easily one of the two best female directed films of all time. I hope Fargeat gets a director nomination. The film is extreme and not a normal awards contender but it is exceptionally well made and unforgettable.
true. still lingering in my mind for more than a month now
I hate the way the release of the films influence their chances ☠️ if Dune: part two came out now I think it would be a strong frontrunner. I can feel people forgetting how impressive that movie was… I would feel so represented by the academy with Nolan and Villeneuve winning best director back to back.
Love the video as always but definitely prefer the old camera format!
Coralie IN
Ross OUT
That's your 5 directors
I appreciate the trying of a new setup, I much prefer the previous setup. I think you had it right when you said the new one is very podcast like and just speaking for myself, we already have too many bros with podcasts lol Still props to you for trying new stuff and for making the videos!
New format is pretty good if you guys feel like you are benefitting from looking at one another. The previous format was fine and this isn't much of an improvement but the more conversational dynamic between you both is good and if you both enjoy that then this is a nice change.
Jaw line is jaw lining also congrats on the new camera lol please switch back
Sorry I can’t warm to this format 😭 - find it weird & alienating.
Love the simple, unpretentious domesticity of the medium shot of you 2 on a couch at home, Cole stroking your cat, or in some air bnb somewhere.
I actually love that you 2 are all about the substance (no pun intended) rather than techy set ups & gimmicks.
Personally I like the old format better, with you both and sometimes your sweet cat, but I do appreciate this experiment.
I like the setup but I feel like you should have a third camera in the middle whenever the cat is anywhere onscreen because I missed her this video
This camera setup isn't bad, but the audio is a lot worse
46:42 Tell me I wasn't the only one who also said, "What?" When Brother Bro said that
Brady corbet winning best director is the only thing I care about
Y’all need a third camera on the cat with this setup
Wow Jeremy Allen White on the left talking to brother bro! And it’s November already even 9 hours ago during posting boys 😊
i like both, but this is more “professional” if thats what you want! i love both!
i dont buy the substance hype. maybe moore gets in but bp/screenplay/etc is a huge stretch imo. but i also think the brutalist is gonna win bp so idk
Sean Baker - Anora
Brady Corbet - The Brutalist
Denis Villeneuve - Dune Part 2
Coralie Fargeat - The Substance
RaMell Ross - Nickel Boys
Ohhh i like this pov inspired camera move!!! Very clever)
I think you could do both video formats with it staying as the two of you on the couch but occasionally editing into these closeups of your face sometimes
Predicting Sean Baker or Brady Corbet to win.

Because it's a family drama at heart and it isn't a body horror film?
Wicked is building. Glinda has always been the show stealer to Elphaba’s vocal power. Also, Glinda has a stronger first act. I think the main thing holding it back would be grande’s pop star status. Hopefully she won’t get Jloed.
I appreciated the Vortex joke, but, personally, I liked the previous camera setup better.
I don't know if people are taking The Substance completely seriously. But I do think they are taking their love for it seriously.
I think Saturday Night has a real good shot at landing a nom for Original Screenplay. It is entertaining, well written, very well-orchestrated with all the many characters and it has that original indie feel to it that the academy often favors in this category.
they're done after the box office bomb. No one talks about it at all
@@JacobthePug Perhaps you're right, but on the other hand Hollywood always loves a good Hollywood film about Hollywood - plus it's an actor's movie meaning lots of potential voters so there might be a little more hope than what the box office indicates.
They need globes nominations first to get the momentum. The comedy/musical category is already stacked of oscar movies compared to drama category
Yeah been watching you guys for a very long time and the old setup is definitely a lot better. This just feels weird
Now that I’ve had the chance to watch The Substance, I think it’s goose-egged. Demi Moore is barely in it, Margaret Qualley is spectacular, the first hour is brilliant, and the third act is, unfortunately, way too silly.
Much prefer the traditional couch setup to this "filmed podcast" vibe
The Brutalist is the film that will continue the 7 Oscar wins for a best picture winner
I love the new camera set up. The old one worked as well, but this is a nice new thing..
Please, please, please - any way we could get some wireless lav mics? Just something simple to improve the audio?
I like the old way because I like seeing the room
