Great job, John. It's great when you show the reality of woodworking and how you overcome problems and obstacles. Great life lessons, too. Really great work.
Always good advise and ideas, i just did your sacrificial fence and used it for the stairs at my job. It made me look like i knew what I was doing. Thanks Jon. Real advise for real life.
I’ve been watching your videos for years, pretty sure it’s the first time I’ve seen you in a t shirt and not a button down. 😂, keep the videos coming, you do amazing work. 👍
Great tutorial, Jon~! Those inserts definitely step up the appearance. I've seen them sporadically on furniture pieces and I like the look. I may have to try them on my next build that has adjustable shelves. Thanks for the video~!
Hey! I HAVE one of those shirts!!❤ The thicker your jig is, the straighter your holes are likely to be, so if you have a piece that’s 2 inches thick you’ll be better off than a 3/4” piece.
And by the way, nobody in the history of woodworking has ever flipped their hole guide upside down by accident, and drilled all the holes on the inside of their kitchen shelves in 2013, including drilling clear through the side several times. No, that is never happened.
And definitely no one has ever drilled through the side of the cabinet because the collar on the drill bit being used slid. And it definitely wasn't while the customer came to visit the shop to see the finishing touches. And they definitely weren't watching you right when you did it....
Always interesting videos Jon. Metric 8mm brass sleeves omit the lip or flange in your exampled inserts for a 6mm brass pin. These give a very slim look. Sleeves are a friction fit. There were imperial size for the same combination but we are all metric these days. Buying sleeves per 100 is the way to go rather than the pins and sleeves together. I always drill before assembly but your story stick will assist if I forget. Regards
The sleeves give the cabinet a nice bit of flare. Just find the correct color for a bit of pop, and contrast. And we always have those day of what the heck is going on. Lol Thank you Mr. Jon
Followed your channel for years and respect your body of work and teachings. I,m a toolmaker and love woodworking on my off time, when choosing the proper diameter drill for the job I find the use of a micrometer seldom fails. Drill miss marked or placed wrongly in the index holster will bite you every time. #1 tip to your followers Never Assume . . . .use a mike Jon . . .like to see more ART Please
Thanks Jorge, the inside of the cabinet is birch plywood… The outside will be walnut veneer. There will be a full project video in about two or three weeks, showing the finished piece of furniture and how to build it.

Really great work.
Thanks! Definitely a big part of working
I so appreciate you showing the “screwup” and how you recover from it.
Thanks!
I just finished majing a Buffet Cabinet and I used the same inserts which by the way, was an idea I got from one of your previous videos. 🙂
That is awesome! Glad to hear it 👍

Thanks! That’s great to hear 👍
I like it when you come up with something new.
It’s the honesty and good humor that keeps me watching, Jon. 😂
😂😂 Thanks! It was one of those days 🤦♂️
Good video Jon! I like how you didn't cut out the mistake on the drillbit size and gloss over it, but provided a workable solution to correct it!
Dave
Thanks Dave!
Thanks Jon, I continue to enjoy your work and now your partnership with the Greene Street guys!

Ha! 😂 I think that is true… thanks Justin I appreciate it!
Nice.
Also, kudos to not hiding your mistake.
Thanks! Definitely all part of woodworking

Thanks 👍🤦♂️ one of those days 😂
Awesome work, Jon! 😃
Thanks a bunch for all the tips!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! You too!

A center weighted story stick sucks. . . .I like blue tape at bottom . . . stupid LOL

I never have (wink, wink).
@@elijahdaves1305if I screw up, it’s definitely when someone is watching. 😂
😂😂😂 yes I’m speaking from experience when I talk about how to avoid mistakes 🤦♂️😂
Had not thought about using shelf pin sleeves. there is a stereo cabinet I'm building and those would really dress it up nicely!
Jon, really looking forward to the full build guide and plans for this!
Thanks!
Always interesting videos Jon.

1/4 " sleeves that I get use a 7mm drill bit which is 9/32 imperial.
Great tip, Jon. Since you introduced TodaysCraftsmen, I subbed and have watched every episode.
Bill
Thanks Bill! Great guys… I’m shooting a video with them today.

Thank you Mr. Jon
Thanks Timothy!
I appreciate the close-up and other angles. More work but I think it's a big deal.
Thanks!
This will likely be one of your most helpful videos, Jon. The comments below tell the tale.
Thanks Jack, Happy Thanksgiving!
Nice work Jon thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great video! 👍
Thank you! 👍
loving the new channel Jon!
Thanks!
I just drilled 440 shelf pin holes at 5mm. Sounds like I need to redo every one of them!

Good idea! Thanks Danny… glad you like the art videos I’m working on one now and hope to get it on the channel soon.
Great tips
Thanks!
They make for 1/4" pins inserts take 9/32 brad point is best. Inserts give excellent support for the pins
14..,17. Close enough
❤❤❤ Nice finish, can you specify what wood is it, I was just talking with my Wife about a cabinet we want and the video is just timely!!!
Thanks Jorge, the inside of the cabinet is birch plywood… The outside will be walnut veneer. There will be a full project video in about two or three weeks, showing the finished piece of furniture and how to build it.
I'll be waiting for it, thanks a lot
What drill bits are those that have that sort of built it collar at the base?
Great tips John that’s exactly how I do my shelf pins. BTW not sure why but sometimes your videos seem blurry to me.
Thanks! I’m not sure, looks clear on my screen… I’ll take a look on my wife’s computer
I can see the appeal of the inserts, but they draw attention to the holes. I suppose they could be spray painted.
"The center is at 14, .. we come over here, , ..Wha?? I'm kidding. Hilarious.
😂😂
Still waiting for the day where I don't screw something up lol
😂😂 me too!
