Bunjie (The O.B.) is a 2010 Excalibur Axiom Crossbow. After more than a decade of killing deer, hogs, squirrels, woodchucks, and even a bear, Bunjie is now semi-retired. Enter Bunjie III (or Bunjie '21, Bunjie 3.0, The Slick Black Cadillac of Crossbows) a 2021 Scorpyd Deathstalker 420, the result of trying various models and looking at dozens of them online for characteristics I liked. It is, in fact, a gift from a Friend of Bunjie, which goes to show how important Friends of Bunjie are to this channel and what an impact they can have. Bunjie III is a testament to modern crossbows, producing over .7 slugs of momentum and almost 140 ft-lbs of kinetic energy with stock arrows--at nearly 400 fps!
Bunjie, Jr., is my daughter Genevieve's crossbow, an Excalibur Micro Suppressor 355. This crossbow was also a much appreciated gift from a Friend of Bunjie, and it changed Death by Bunjie forever by inspiring Genevieve to become a part of our story as a second-generation crossbow hunter, and it also convinced me there is a benefit to a newer, faster crossbow (see our 2020 Maryland Doe Hunt).
Again, I am not sponsored by these companies. I am sponsored by Friends of Bunjie! (I'm not asking for gifts whatsoever--please don't feel like you should send me stuff! But I do appreciate the support I've received over the years! I'm just trying to express my appreciation for that.)
This channel is the result of combining my interest in filming and hunting...and music, too! My related channel, Yankee Militia, showcases my music. Some of the music is hunting-related, so check that out, too! The soundtrack for this channel is provided by my band, so the two are intertwined. The albums "Live Free or Kill" and "Zombies Gotta Eat, Too!" are available on Amazon.com and elsewhere. A third album is in the works.

    Hunters!
Good News! Greater speed from a crossbow won’t make you more aware of wind direction. It won’t make you take greater care of scent control. It won’t make you wise to a converging hub in the middle of a deep woods ! So don’t take arrow SPEED to heart! Be much more concerned with. Finding Your game and shot PLACEMENT than such silly things as arrow speed! Trust me , your six year old crossbow will kill anything imaginable with a new broad head and proper shot placement!

It's exciting to see the changes to see the changes coming to xbows. Your channel is what got me into crossbow hunting. I'm not even embarrassed to say that I got an amazon "Killer Instinct 420" xbow 3 years ago. Since then I've set myself up for 20-30 yard shots each hunting season since. I've harvested a deer every single year since I got it. None of the deer ran more then 40 yards from where I shot it. I'll probably never go back to bow hunting. Not dogging on bows. I love my bow. But when I'm hunting I want to be responsible and be kind to the animal I'm taking. IMO, nothing is better than a crossbow for that. Love your channel!

Hello Bungie! It’s so good to see you again.😉 And I’ll do my best to answer your question about the safety switch on the newer Ten-Point models, or at least on one of them. I purchased the RS-440 Havoc three years ago. Speaking for myself, but only concerning this model, the answer is yes, they do make an audible sound. And it’s the same on this particular model of crossbow all the way around the board. It is a pretty big deal to me to. But it’s NOT a deal breaker, at least for me. Like yourself Bungie, and a lot of us, I take my time in the woods very serious, and especially when it comes to my equipment. Yes this is a bummer, but if you take some extra precaution and care every time you engage/disengage it, you can engage/disengage it very quietly. At the same time though, and speaking totally honest, if you was to just click it off/on with no thought or regard to it, you would 100% hear the click, and so “COULD” every deer around you! I cannot speak for other TenPoint models, but every RS-440 Havoc that I’ve seen or handled has been the same. Bungie you bring up the best issues and questions concerning todays crossbows, and I love that about your channel. And whats not a deal breaker for me, very well might be for you, or others, and vice versa, so this is an excellent question and great insight concerning their crossbows. I live in Northeast Ohio, and it’s literally only a 5 minute drive for me to TenPoints company headquarters. Archery season here is just around the corner so I will be visiting TenPoint very soon to have my crossbow gone over, and to look at some newer models. For as much as the issue of the noisy safety switch has entered my head (ON STAND) it’s really crazy that I’ve never mentioned it to anyone at TenPoint, or anywhere else for that matter. Maybe it’s because I’ve never had a hunt spoiled because of it, at least not yet anyways!🤞🏻I can tell you that I’m fully aware of the fact that I need to take precaution whenever I’m on stand as far as remembering it though. I will be bringing this up to them. I will also provide a follow up comment at a later date when I know if it’s an issue on the newer models as well. I’d also like to add that Bungie is 100% correct in saying that the circular knob located at the bottom of the stock is NOT for resting the stock on for a shot. It is in fact the “CRANK HANDLE” that your seeing for the Accu-draw system. It is not a “BUMPER” for shooting the crossbow!!

In talk about ten point safety I have the 505 and I can make it not click. had a buck at 20 yards and was able to turn the safety off with out alerting the deer. Ittakes practice but it can be done.. on the "bumper" it is the cocking handle its molded in to the frame of the cross bow to store it.

I take you back to Rich’s public land doe. In the right hands, the technology can make some thing’s possible at times that wouldn’t be possible.
I do not propose speed or other things as a panacea for lacking skills. But without the technology, would Rich have scored that doe?
For those out there that make irresponsible shots due to their lack of experience or skill, it’s on them. Perhaps there are more than a few people out there that believe they know more than they do.

But I do like the regular draw types, maybe it's what I'm used to. Like you, I have to wait until something is proven. The need for a scope brace may be a good idea. Only time will tell. Rich and Bunji fans,
I used a TenPoint Vengent 440 this year and scored 3 deer with it (one small 7 point buck and two does). It's an awesome xbow, and I love TenPoint
I've used the Vengent, Titan Extreme, and Titan M1, so I'm a big fan of TenPoint. But I'm on the fence with the accuslide because on one of my hunts this year my accuslide strap broke! It was my fault because I wasn't paying attention and over cocked it. Took me out of the hunt for the rest of the hunt that day which was a special draw hunt. I spent $100 getting it repaired and thankfully it was covered under TenPoints warranty if it wasn't for that I'm told it would have been over $500.
The M1 is awesome also but now I have to have it fixed because of issues with the cams hopefully the warranty covers it as well. TenPoints warranty is awesome.
I've hunted with xbows since 2010 and started with Barnett and then Centerpoint, So TenPoint is my favorite. I did kill deer with the other xbows but will stay with TenPoint for now, and after your video with the Oracle X, I'm really excited to put my TenPoint Vengent back out next year. All 3 TenPoints are capable of being quiet when you use the safety switch if you ease them.

I retired a year ago last September bought myself a raven R 29X sniper package for deer hunting in Indiana on my annual trip from Arizona. had a couple issues could not get RAVEN to answer a customer service call or email in a timely manner. It appears all of their resources are utilized in design, manufacture, and sell and the heck with customer service. Pretty sickening. All they’re authorized dealers I have contacted agree that their communication with customers and dealers is pathetic and they’re all pushing Tenpoint instead. However, they are accurate and they do kill deer. Kind of a love-hate thing with them right now. 👊👍😎

I have a Tenpoint Vengent S440. I'm assuming this is the predecessor to the Stealth 450 you're looking at in this video. I've already contact Tenpoint about adding the scope rail struts to my Vengent but they have told me they are not available to use on any other models than the new models released with the new technology already installed.
For your question about the safety. When I click the safety to FIRE with just my thumb there is a small click sound. However, I almost always use my thumb and first finger from my shooting hand (right) to move the safety to FIRE. Using my thump and finger makes it silent.
I've checked out the Tenpoint compact crossbows at a couple of the stores and I wouldn't trade the full size Vengent for any of the compact models. I want better hand placement and 20 inch arrows.
My Vengent S440 only shoots around 410 fps with the Evo X Centerpunch arrows. I wouldn't recommend hunting with anything lighter. They do advertise their bow speeds with the 400g arrow which is slightly off putting but I love the bow either way.

You may remember the C.E. crossbow I bought that came from the factory with the cams out of sync, that cost me $150 dollars to correct in addition to the retail cost of the crossbow. I could have sent another $35 dollar over the retail price of the Carbon Express and could have bought a Ten Point, or at least many other dependable manufacturers crossbow. Please DO keep these videos coming. I could have saved a ton of frustration from my purchase of the Carbon Express, a pile of garbage crossbow. if I had bought another brand.
I still say my Barnett youth crossbow out shoots the Carbon Express. (Over a $250 dollar difference..) I bought the Barnett for under $100 at a Black Friday sale from Wal Mart and the accuracy is is superior to the Carbon Express. The Barrette is only 240 F..P.S. yet I have harvested 6 Deer with it. Only two with the Carbon Express at 350 F.P.S. . The Carbon express always shot way to the right, even at 10 yards leading missing the deer totally or to gut shots from the Carbon Express, that hurt the deer for far longer than the slower Barnett with double lung shots. Go figure. . . .

I'm not sure about this one. Lengthening the bow to achieve longer string contact I assume for more speed only throws that riser and all its weight even farther out forward. When I made the decision to buy the RDX-400 it was because the weight balance was closer to your shoulder. This is the opposite, and why? To what purpose? Is it speed?
What if they'd design a lenghthier reverse draw bow, thus increasing string contact possibly speeding it up AND keeping the weight rearward. Now THAT I'd be interested in. But it's always good to see R & D busy at work.

Rich, I promised a video to send you but my camera died and I had to take it in to get fixed. You will get the vid after January 5th. But to comment on your post. I have a Bear X Constrictor. Before it got cold my wife's cousin and I were target shooting our bows with in my case 338 grain and 404 grain arrows. At 30 yards my arrows were shooting completely through the bag. It ripped off my vanes. My wife's cousin has the Ten Point 505. He was doing the same thing bye bye vanes. We wanted to know what arrow grains had the best punch. We put another bag about a foot behind the front bag and both were driving into the second bag about 6 inches. We put a chronograph and with both arrow grains I shot 412 FPS and he was at 500 fps. No difference in speed on bold gain arrows. We both found that odd as well as penetration did not show any difference. I guess the geometry of the new bows it really did not matter much. The only thing we could think of is speed. We talked about my rifles (.243 and .308). they both have about the same exit damage but the .243 is only one hundred gain and the .308 is 200 grain. The .243 is faster and the .308 is heavier. We concluded that speed is just as good as weight. I would entertain your thoughts on this.

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  Год назад +1

It may not be an exact relationship but it certainly is true, when we talk about momentum, speed and weight are equally part of the equation. With Kinetic energy, however, speed is much more important, because it is speed times itself in that equation, whereas the weight is there by itself. Does that make sense? But I can totally see how it would be similar to bullets.

I didn't feel like decocking one day so I screwed on a field point and shot at a leaf on the ground to the right of my tree stand. My bow was too close to the tree and violently whacked the tree trunk. I thought my bow exploded from the sound of it but it was fine. Impressive how tough they are. At inside 40 yards and 410fps all the deer I shot flinch after the bolt has passed through them. No need to go faster in my opinion. For us bigger guys, does eye relief suffer with the compact crossbows? I seem to need a good bit of length from the butt stock to the eyepiece of the scope. I’m happy with what I have but just curious if the max length between the end of the butt stock and the max forward position of the scope is relatively the same maximum with these more compact length crossbows. Otherwise if I don’t have enough length between my cheek weld and the scope eyepiece, I get sight blackout on outer edges of the eyepiece just like you would expect with a badly adjusted eye relief. ?

@Deathbybunjie The rear portion of the polymer arm on top of the trigger box was rubbing against the bolt that connects the scope struts to the scope rail at the top. Every time I'd try to move the trigger box past that point I'd have to push moderately hard with thumb to overcome interference. Could see witness marks where interference was occurring. My wives 450 did not have this issue, fortunately. This is not the end of the world but when I spent $2600 on bow with Burris scope (yes I got one given your praise) then I wouldnt have expected such an obvious flaw, that is actually quite irritating since it's the type of issue you'd experience every time it's shot. If they indeed did test fire the completed bow at the factory then I'm not sure how they didnt catch it prior to shipment. Remember this is an expensive "American made" item , not a Walmart cheepo.
By the way, I saw on burris's web page where they replied to a customer with battery drain issues. They indicated that there is a s/w fix available. Fortunately, both burrus oracle x scopes I have are holding charge after couple weeks (so far) so maybe they got the new s/w .
