    Just got my viper 430 today and sighted in. Field points are insanely accurate out to the 40 yards I checked them. I'm talking near single hole accuracy at 40 yards. Fast and accurate, this bow is going to be a best seller for sure.

    Speed of sound at sea level is like 1,100 FPS---No more jumping the string. Will it ever be ? Kinda doubt it myself but the NEW threshold sure seems to be getting to 600 FPS.

    The string riding the rail can quickly eat up the serving especially if no rail lube is being used. I like using Angel Majesty .036 serving when I build x-bow bow strings. It is very tuff, grips the string very well, it work hardens and wear resistant.

    Watched one of your videos on the ten Point crossbow and you were talking about lowering your crossbow from a tree stand and being careful not to bump the scope against the tree and nock it off line. I have 12 tree stands and have attached a permanent cord to each stand that hangs down about 4 to 5 feet off the ground on the most open side of the tree stand , which also has a open metal hook that attaches to the stirrup of the crossbow which can be easily attached and detached. Never have a problem with the scope, because the crossbow is always freely hanging in open space. Thanks

    Ive got a Ten Point Turbo from Scheels. All told I spent just under a grand and the bow is fast as all hell. It came with a quiver and scope and Ive taken two bucks in the past two years, this years being a 160" monster, biggest of my life. You dont have to spend two grand to kill deer, and this coming from a guy who used to buy 1000 dollar bare bow Matthews.

    I own three Barnett crossbows. The XP400, XP380, and the TS380. I measured the limbs thickness and length and they are identical. However the ATA on the XP400 is 1/4 of an inch shorter than the XP380. I believe that's how they change the speed is by advancing the cams.

    Great video Rich! Yes, it's all about competition and marketing for sure! The two BIG players in the crossbow business I feel are Ten Point and Ravin. These two are clearly the IBM and XEROX of our times (or GM and FORD if you'd prefer)! That said, I can't wait to see what they're offering at the next Great American Outdoors Show! But, I do think the best value in the industry is offered by Wicked Ridge which is the second, economy line of Ten Point! Would love to know what market share percentage Ten Point owns, but they are the dominant company in the industry. Keep up the great videos! Nice looking fireplace! Happy New Year!

      We all ready do get a few matches stick em together launch em. You will reach 700 fps once maybe twice lol.
      The main downfall with the speeds is that the bolts get lighter and lighter.
      What good is all this speed if it can’t penetrate? I do not care about a 500 fps crossbow this is not impressive. Now 500 fps with 600-1000 grain bolt with over 1.0 slugs of momentum….. this is impressive this would be a crossbow to have.

      The Nitro 505 can launch a 530 grain arrow at 465+ fps. Energy is in excess of 260 ft lbs. in fact, it will carry more than 1 slug past 70 yards.
      My 505 drives a 470 grain arrow at 500+ fps. That’s 263 ft lbs!
      It is laser accurate. Many of the 505’s are clocking more than 505 fps. Mine recorded 521 at the factory. Do I need that kind of energy for deer? No way! But there are some advantages that can be recognized.

    Great fireside chat 👌 love this style video lesson. I bought my first crossbow not long ago off Amazon. Rocky Mountain 405 from Feradyne. Came with a crank. $200 sale. After 13 shot, limb split. Feradyne replaced. No cost. I like the crossbow. My concern; does LOW COST mean a TRASHY product? These new crossbows from Ten Point are extremely expensive but high tech. I go to Bass Pro to look at Crossbows & it’s like shopping for a new car! 😢😳😂. My RM 405 came with a scope. Bit cheesy. Plan to replace. Know of any good scopes? 🤣🤣👍 I can see what you mean. Scopes of the future will get smaller & include range finding capabilities. A natural progression of competitive marketing.

    I believe the crossbows are mostly inefficient due to a short power stroke, the bow is being cut short in travel to allow more energy to be transfered to the arrow. If you lengthen the string, and lengthened where the string is held by the trigger to where the string is at rest(rail) then you'll have a more efficient bow. A 2 in increase in powerstroke is huge because there's so much available energy going to waste. I noticed a difference in shot time when I went from a forward limb crossbow to a reverse draw. The reverse draw takes more time to release the arrow because it has a longer powerstroke. Well I've said enough to, thanks for the video

    I don't own a Ten Point, but I like the fact that Ten Point/Wicked Ridge offers a wide price range of crossbows. This is not new, however. If you want an entry level crossbow under $1,000 for example, brands like Ravin, Scorpyd, & Mission are eliminated. Ravin is owned by the same company as Centerpoint, however. Ten Point checks some nice boxes with their Turbo S1 & up models. The ability to safely decock without firing your crossbow with their ACCUslide system seems slick. I have the impression Ten Point's customer service is also top notch from what others share about them most of the time. Most of all, Ten Point is still a family owned company. I can name numerous archery companies (not just crossbows) that were sold out to some other company, and some of the family owned charm of the company is lost. Ten Point also offers something new each year. I don't think Ten Point is offering anything that new this year, however. The 400-505 fps models this year are not all that different from last year's models. There are still new models to pick from, however. Whereas Mission hasn't changed/added a crossbow or compound bow model since 2019. Missions seems to be an after thought for Mathews, which seems a bit ironic. Mathews has been cranking out a new flagship bow since I have been following them ( they moved to Sparta, Wisconsin in 1995). The more I look at crossbows, the more I am drawn to the simplicity of Excalibur crossbows (don't own one either) that can be rope cocked. I could care less about speed, & I don't think crossbows are going beyond the 400-500 fps range any time soon. Compound bow speeds really haven't changed much the past decade or more. I think crossbows will be peak soon, too. I could be wrong, however. If it takes an electric motor to cock a high speed crossbow, I have a problem with that (unless you have a medical reason). That's just me, however.

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  Год назад +1

      100% Mission seems like Mathews can barely tolerate having them, although I hear they might release something new next year in 2024. And of course that one will sit around for 6 years lol. I get what you're saying about electric motors being where you draw the line, but I draw the line on cranks, personally. I really don't want one. Different Strokes for different folks!

    • @hunterdan2002
      @hunterdan2002 Год назад

      Excalibur offers a system similar to what tenpoint does for the crank on some of their higher end models. Frankly, Excalibur is far too expensive for what they are. Most of their technology is in the limbs. No cams, no fancy rails. If they offered their assassin 420 for $1200 or under, I'd probably give it a solid look.

    • @driftlesshunter9200
      @driftlesshunter9200 Год назад

      @@Deathbybunjie Sadly (depending how you look at it), that's where Mission blows everyone away. Their rope cocking feature is awesome! Being able to decock your crossbow with two hands while the crossbow remains set on safe is an feature that every rope cocking crossbow should offer. I've only tried it with their Sub-1 in an archery shop, & it's very easy to cock & decock with a rope. I rather rope cock myself, but I don't fault those who feel more comfortable with a crank (your daughter included). :) Safety first! Mission crossbows can also be worked on without a bow press (in some ways easier than an Excalibur), and that's another perk they have. Mission has done some things right, but they are overdue for an update for sure! NIce chatting with you!

    • @driftlesshunter9200
      @driftlesshunter9200 Год назад

      @@hunterdan2002 Ravin has improved their cranks, too. Excaliburs are priced a bit high, but they also come with a lifetime warranty. Everyone else makes crossbows with cams. It's nice that one company offers something different. I respect Excalibur, because they offer more affordable models too. Mag 340 is not a speed demon, but it's a nice package for some.

I can get that stand and a set of their sticks, which I love, for $200. So really it's about $600 worth of stuff. Novix is the same company that made the sticks for my tree saddle. my bulldog 440 was around 1000$ or there abouts now their crossbows with lower speed cost almost twice that amount and other decent crossbows costs 2000 and up, not made of any expensive materials, i would have though that the more crossbows are made those would be cheaper to make but here it the opposite, limbs need to be made as light as possible and as strong possible within limits with the moving mass as light as a possible . beside the limbs on a crossbow nothing special to make and yet they have become so expensive my bulldog and my old vortex
    will be the last ones i buy since new ones are ludcrously expensive if price change from 1000 to 2500 would and get me 750 or 800 fps i could understand the price hike but not like it is at the moment. and a supercharged bow hmm didnt see one on that bow, the only blower is behind the trigger and the only time he would be charged would be with a beer or two. p.s. and soon we will see 1000fps with a 50gr arrow but the weight might not be disclosed until someone figues it out.

      a bow is a bow and the beauty of hunting with such is to get stoneage man feeling of a hunt and be close to the nature while doing it. and hunting beyond 50m is for a gun and not a bow for several reasons, there is not many of us shooters that are extremly good at precision in these tense situations even with a rifle in cold weather with gloves and breath fogging up sunglasses, so why the egerness to shoot so far, and 50m arrow still penetratates animal with ease. also i would say that alot of shoots are done out pure egerness to make a shot.

    Pretty silly of tenpoint to think that less area = less wear. This goes 100% against what is taught in Engineering Mechanics courses, and also against what is observed in real life.
    Less area means all the wear will be concentrated to that smaller area.
    And amount of friction has only to do with the normal force multiplied by the coefficient of friction. Area does not factor into friction forces.
    Look at snow sleds... You go for a sled with a lot of contact area, to spread out the load. Snowboards, skis, etc. Many other examples in life.

      Rhetorical question... Since the obvious answer is the current width (more surface area).
      But tenpoint marketing folk had to come up with the fancy "micro track" term and sell it as a false benefit, vs true reason which is the accuslide needs the grooves to function.
      Excalibur Assassin also has similar guides/grooves machined into the top of their rails, but you don't see excalibur making false claim about what those grooves do.

      If I own a $1,500+ crossbow some day, I will be set for life. I agree marketing hype is way overrated. I currently shoot a 10 year old compound bow. The specs on my compound bow are no different than today's compounds. I would feel like a fool buying a new compound bow these days. My current one is quiet, has a solid backwall, and is more accurate than I can shoot. Plus, I am eligible for free lifetime cables/string every 2 years for it. I really like what I have. A new one would seem like a downgrade to me. My days of compound bows are limited, however. Thus, I find myself here.

    There are always going to be speed chasers and hopefully these front style crossbows will start advertising 430 fps with 600 grain bolts lol. Speed and momentum very necessary. But besides that there will be those that still like the classic or trad style look like recurves. I do not think recurve companies should chase speed but rather durability. But this is a specific special market.
    Ten point can compete with ravin its already better they have life time warranty and cheaper and quieter also just as fast to faster.
    Scorpyd is its own categoryjust like excalibur i do no think all crossbows should compete with each other. Realistically no matter how fast an excalibur can get it wont be anywhere near (with proper hunting setup) to 500 fps. But they can advertise 330 fps with heavier bolts and maybe change the market to something more practical.
