    Bunjie (The O.B.) is a 2010 Excalibur Axiom Crossbow. After more than a decade of killing deer, hogs, squirrels, woodchucks, and even a bear, Bunjie is now semi-retired. Enter Bunjie III (or Bunjie '21, Bunjie 3.0, The Slick Black Cadillac of Crossbows) a 2021 Scorpyd Deathstalker 420, the result of trying various models and looking at dozens of them online for characteristics I liked. It is, in fact, a gift from a Friend of Bunjie, which goes to show how important Friends of Bunjie are to this channel and what an impact they can have. Bunjie III is a testament to modern crossbows, producing over .7 slugs of momentum and almost 140 ft-lbs of kinetic energy with stock arrows--at nearly 400 fps!
    Bunjie, Jr., is my daughter Genevieve's crossbow, an Excalibur Micro Suppressor 355. This crossbow was also a much appreciated gift from a Friend of Bunjie, and it changed Death by Bunjie forever by inspiring Genevieve to become a part of our story as a second-generation crossbow hunter, and it also convinced me there is a benefit to a newer, faster crossbow (see our 2020 Maryland Doe Hunt).
    Again, I am not sponsored by these companies. I am sponsored by Friends of Bunjie! (I'm not asking for gifts whatsoever--please don't feel like you should send me stuff! But I do appreciate the support I've received over the years! I'm just trying to express my appreciation for that.)
    This channel is the result of combining my interest in filming and hunting...and music, too! My related channel, Yankee Militia, showcases my music. Some of the music is hunting-related, so check that out, too! The soundtrack for this channel is provided by my band, so the two are intertwined. There’s a lot of things I really like about this crossbow! First and foremost is that it has solid limbs! Leads me to believe it would actually last a long time (I define a long time in crossbow life as 20 years). My old Horton lasted 26 years, and currently my SA Sports Anbush is on year 8! I’m not one to drop $1k plus on a crossbow, but this one is very intriguing! I like the personal insights you offered in this video, and your delivery is awesome! 👍👍

    Why I love cocker/decocker system (vs. rope pull)? My dad who had a torn shoulder and never fully recovered was unable to have heavy pull of traditional rope cocker system. And, while pricey, Ravin has a powered cocker/decocker system as well (looks like similar battery used as 18v cordless drill type battery). I am not a fan of the weight, but nice that it provides options for hunters that may not have the physical ability to rope pull.

    Rich, I watched this video 3 times, anticipating when I pulled up your subscription, there would be a new one! Just kidding! I really enjoy watching your channel, and seeing a new one is like a kid waking up on Christmas morning. I know that you don't like the mechanical crank cocking systems, but I also had a bad experience with the rope system. I was practicing in the backyard in wet grass and decided to wear new boots I just got to see how they fit in the stirrup. I got about halfway cooked, and the stirrup slipped off my boot, sending the butt stock into my ribs. I got a real sore side and a big bruise! I got a new Tenpoint with the AccDraw shortly after that, and I really like it! I'm pretty sure all of my future crossbows will have a crank on it.

    Thanks for your response. I found in one of your episodes a reference to a block target you had recommended I have not been able to find that again. I got an idea from my local archery shop. I tapped the bolts through the block, removed the target point, tapped it back flush with the back of the block. Then I used an old cleaning rod that was slightly smaller than bolts cross section to tap it all the way back through. This did leave me needing to replace the nocks but the bolts were otherwise undamaged. the cleaning rod was easily removed. Now I think I need a different target for the R-10.

    Hey Rich, as someone new to crossbows, I am very glad that cranks are now a thing for crossbows. I get what you are saying about high draw weights being a problem, though. The reason I like the crank is that my shoulder gets worse with age. Currently, I could probably rope draw most crossbows. Give it a few years and a surgery or two, and that might not be the case anymore. That being said, this crossbow sounds really nice and would suit both our needs.

      @@prairiedogs001 they are expensive , that last red stag I shot with my cz270 was just too easy so after that I said I will never shoot another deer with a rifle so I sold it and done months of research on what the best crossbow for me would be and at the time the nitro rdx just come out so I brought one and was amazed at the balance of the reverse limb design, second was how accurate it was and in no time I was putting 3 bolts in a 1" square at 40 mtrs ( with a rest ) and started on rabbits and whistling up Fox's and in no time I was wacking bunnies free hand at 50 mtrs and within a couple months I was dropping deer pig and goats and to be honest I really haven't touched any of my rifles since , back in the day I done a lot of compound bow hunting with sights and had a Barnett crossbow but they have come a long way since then but you look at the cost of a good rifle and scope and your up for 5k ... all the issues I had with the rdx ( having to shoot to unload it, busted knuckles if the handle slips out of your hand , bigger quiver) was all fixed in the nitro 505 but I was looking at the ravin r500e but I'm wrapped I stuck with what I know and the 505 is amazing, people carry on about speed and it doesn't have to be that fast to kill and they don't but they shoot way flatter and there's way more accuracy because the drop of the bolt between say 30 -50 mtrs might be 1.5 - 2 inches where as a slower bolt might be 4-8 inches and that could mean the difference between a hit and miss or a clean fast kill so no it's not all about the speed but it does make a massive difference but when you can the nitro 505 or even that new 460 model that has just come out, I can vouch for tenpoint because I have used the a hell of a lot and I've dropped 100's of kills with them , the strings last , super accurate a bit on the heavy side but worth it every bit

    1. Can it be decocked without shooting by using a rope cocker?

    My bow has the accu draw. It is very slick, but the handles recess in to a pocket in the stock and are held there by magnets ( neat idea) trouble is they catch on everything ( harness straps, backpack straps, binocular straps) and they rattle, generally when you really don't want them to. I would cut them off but that would void the warranty of the bow.

    Is a reverse CB more dangerous then the traditional? Since the shooter is down range from the limbs.

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  8 месяцев назад

      That's an interesting question, and I almost think it would be the opposite since the action of the limbs is out farther away from you. At least it felt that way when I first started shooting it. I can tell you now I'm shooting a crossbow that is reverse draw but not reverse limbs and it doesn't concern me one bit. So I don't know that it makes any real difference in the end.

    Lower draw weight doesn't always equate to low limb stress. With a super long power stroke and lots of mechanical advantage in a cam, you can still create TONS of limb stress while keeping the draw weight low. Just a lil tidbit of info.
    But high draw weight is sure hard on all the other components, and I also prefer owning crossbows with reasonable draw weight.

    Is there a difference between two crossbows that shoot 400fps if one of them reaches that speed faster? Like 0-60 in 3 seconds vs 0-60 in 6 seconds. That kind of difference. I HAD a crossbow that had bearings in the limbs where the cam shaft rotates. And it seemed to me like it released the arrow faster than my other crossbow that had the same speed rating. It just got me to thinking.

Ok I have been using a block target and FMJ crossbow bolts with no real issue except they are difficult to remove from my block. With the R-10 and same size arrows at the same depth of penentration why can't I remove the damn arrows? puzzling and frustrating as heck.

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  Год назад

      Well that's just plain weird! If same length and level of penetration, shouldn't make much difference. Although you should have a little bit more penetration with that r10, that is a 400 ft per second crossbow and I do think that's one of Ravin's best in my opinion
