Kasey Kahne has been my favorite NASCAR driver since 2004, and I always got so excited when he won races. I was heartbroken when he retired from NASCAR.
This was my first season that I actually paid attention to the races instead of just watching. I was a Kahne fan because I like Bill Elliott. Had my heart ripped out so many times Kahne’s rookie season
Imagine if he was in Hendrick or Gibbs or Roush equipment that decade, Kasey was singlehandedly carrying this organization to relevance for 6 years.....
Kasey Kahne was my driver, once Bill Elliott stepped away from that 9 car. I remember 2004 so much ... it was one of the most heartbreaking, gut-wrenching, and frustrating years ever, and how Kasey got through that year without losing his mind is amazing all in itself. 5 2nds ... NASCAR and Casey Mears fucking him at Dover, leading the race and crashing out with 20 to go ... Tony Stewart crashing him when he was leading at Chicago ... Leading 207 of the first 267 laps at the Fall Charlotte race, and he gets screwed by a blown tire ... I guarantee to this day, I don't think Kasey looks back on his rookie year too fondly. He was PLAGUED by bad luck that year. I look at Kasey's career, and while I'm happy with what he managed to accomplish ... 18 Wins (19 if you include his All-Star Race win), with 3 Coke 600s and a Brickyard 400 ... at the same time I'm also depressed, because he should have so much more. Kasey's win total should really, at the very least be somewhere between 30-40 wins. His rookie year alone, he easily could have had 5-7 wins. In 2013, his 2nd year driving for Hendrick ... he had 2 wins, and could have had 3 or 4 more, if it wasn't for the god damn dirty Joe Gibbs cars. Matt Kenseth got into him many times that year, (Kahne finished 2nd to him 3 times that year) and Kyle Busch wrecked him I think 4 times that year ... the most memorable one for me was at Darlington. I remember so many times Kahne would just get blatantly moved over or wrecked by someone ... another one I remember very fondly (I forget what year), is Carl Edwards wrecking him at Pocono between turn 1 and 2. I've hated Carl Edwards ever since. Kahne to me had two weaknesses as a driver: 1. He was a push over and "too nice", which is one reason why I think he got wrecked so often. He was never an overly aggressive driver, and I think that cost him a good amount of races. 2. This reason annoyed the hell out of me, and it happened far too often .... Kasey was always horrible on "restarts" after cautions. I can remember a number of times where Kasey was leading after a caution with like 15 to go, 10 to go, or 5 to go ... the race is about to restart, Kasey is leading, and he gets a bad restart and get blown by, by not only the eventual winner, but by a few more cars. Three examples of this I remember very well: - 2013 Coke 600: He dominated the race, and was leading with 10 to go ... got passed by Kevin Karvick on a restart after a caution came out, finishes 2nd. - 2013 Fall Charlotte Race: Same exact thing ... he dominated the race, led with 15 to go I think, caution comes out, gets ready on a restart, and he lost to Brad Keslowski on a restart. Finishes 2nd. - 2014 Brickyard: Most OBVIOUS example. Dominated the race leading 70 of the 160 laps, led with 17 to go after a caution, then Jeff Gordon BLOWS by him on a restart to win, Kasey finishes 6th. I don't understand how people could call Kasey Kahne "overrated" ... its actually the opposite. He's INCREDIBLY underrated. I wouldn't call him an "all-time great", but he was certainly better than a lot of people give him credit for. He was such a good kid, and a better driver than people think. And again, Im happy with what he managed to accomplish, and I think he might make the HOF someday ... but damn, when you look at his career in totality, it should really have looked a lot better than it does.
8:39 IIRC, this race really brought the lucky dog rule to light and made it controversial to many because I believe both the 12 and 9 were beneficiaries of the rule that race.
@@camillaquelladegliaggettiv4303 if you're the first car not on the lead lap when a caution comes out, and you weren't the cause of that caution, you get a lap back (so you were 1 lap down to the leaders, you get to pass the pace car under caution and therefore end up back on the lead lap).
8:55 - 15 races with 4 runner up finishes, I don't think i would question if he was ever going to get to Victory Lane, for a rookie who hadn't been driving a stock car for very long, I think he did real well. I think Kasey had raced almost 50 times (in Cup) when he won, that's not that many. I know Michael Waltrip ran (was it..) 462 races before his first win - if the circumstances were different and the last lap wreck didn't happen, can you imagine how big the celebration would be!?!
Lol, gotta love Benny Parsons at the end
Imagine if he was in Hendrick or Gibbs or Roush equipment that decade, Kasey was singlehandedly carrying this organization to relevance for 6 years.....
He outperformed his Evernham/Petty equipment most seasons
They would have done him wrong.
Kasey Kahne should have won a championship at some point.
Then he would have
Kasey is my all time favorite driver and this video is half awesome and half sad as hell 😭😭😭
I like Kasey Kahne because he actually sponsors the dirt track near me
No way! Which one?

As a kid I grew up a Rusty Wallace fan..
This dude came along in 2004 and made some serious noise..followed him all the way through..thanks Kasey!
If Kahne had any luck in 2004, that season could have been like Tony Stewart in 1999.
Kahne to me had two weaknesses as a driver:
Three examples of this I remember very well:
- 2013 Coke 600: He dominated the race, and was leading with 10 to go ... got passed by Kevin Karvick on a restart after a caution came out, finishes 2nd.
When you hear Dark Necessities in the background of a NASCAR video
they pushed this guy so hard, he had commercial deals, cameos, you name it.
Didnt really work i guess
Love the RHCP Dark Necessities song in the background.
Finally. Someone that sees him as a future Hall of Famer
If he is, the hall shouldn't exist
Kasey is also such a nice guy.
This video towards the end makes me more frustrated watching kahnes luck
8:39 IIRC, this race really brought the lucky dog rule to light and made it controversial to many because I believe both the 12 and 9 were beneficiaries of the rule that race.
Correct
Explain to a noob what that rule is?
@@camillaquelladegliaggettiv4303 if you're the first car not on the lead lap when a caution comes out, and you weren't the cause of that caution, you get a lap back (so you were 1 lap down to the leaders, you get to pass the pace car under caution and therefore end up back on the lead lap).
The title of your channel alone is worth a subscription...
Lionel needs to make a "Checkers or Wreckers" of each race in his rookie season
I’d buy it immediately
when he got out of the car after smashing the back he looked like he was crying. poor dude
Kasey was always my favorite driver. I have a Khane hat from, I believe, 2009 that I wore all the time when I was little.
As a Kasey Kahne fan it was hard to watch those races when he was leading and had the best car but ended up crashing out
8:55 - 15 races with 4 runner up finishes, I don't think i would question if he was ever going to get to Victory Lane, for a rookie who hadn't been driving a stock car for very long, I think he did real well. I think Kasey had raced almost 50 times (in Cup) when he won, that's not that many. I know Michael Waltrip ran (was it..) 462 races before his first win - if the circumstances were different and the last lap wreck didn't happen, can you imagine how big the celebration would be!?! Such a bad bad day and cruel for Mikey. I mention all this to ask if anyone can tell me other drivers with the most starts before winning?
Hope everyone's doing good aaaaand another great video - thanks for all your hard work and effort, it means a lot to us watching.
Kasey Kahne’s career was unlucky.
I see him as a conservative Dale Sr
Alternate title: "Bad Seasons: Kasey Kahne 2004"? Or a Good Seasons, idk
I’d say good, Kasey’s 2005 season was featured on this channel (Bad Seasons Kasey Kahne 2005)
I watched that Dover race live as a kid and I personally was rooting for Labonte but Kahne was someone I was keeping an eye on what a bummer.
I feel like I could get along with this guy... So long as we stayed away from anvils, mirrors, bridges and priceless decor.
as kahne fan since his world of outlaws days, it had to be one of the WORST up and down careers ever
IMO The Charlotte fall race was the biggest heartbreaker for Kasey Kahne during his rookie season
Great story well told. Thanks.
Probably one of the best drivers of all time, just got the rawest deal.
Hall of Fame- yes. Just not a first ballot one
I concur. Ricky Rudd needs in there first
Evernham and Khane were the definition of checkers or wreckers. That car was fast but squirrely as hell.
Good Seasons: Cole Custer 2020
Cole's season was nothing special. He was outshone by Reddick and Bell in arguably better equipment (Reddick for sure, Bell is close) and only won ROTY because he got his win at Kentucky and it locked him into the playoffs.

Yeah, but wonder if Kenny could have left Hendrick and went to Leavine with him?

Kasey was a great driver, but definitely unlucky
That's 6 or 7 races he had either in the bag or barely had won. Unreal the luck the guy had in '04. Hopefully we don't see something like this in the future.
