My dad was the pace car driver at Hickory from the mid 90's to the early 00's. They nicknamed him "Elmo" after the Cup pace car driver at the time and former driver Elmo Langley. Riding with him in the pace car was an absolute BLAST. On the initial starts daddy would bring the field slowly to the restart line and the yank the pace car down onto pit road. On any restarts hed pace them until the end of the back stretch and then tromp on the gas and take off from them making the tires squeal as he turned onto pit road. Those are some of my favorite memories of my dad growing up. I hope before I get too old, I can replicate those same moves pacing the field at Hickory.

For a more realistic example, Driver A can win 8-10 races all throughout the year, get 25-30 top 5s and top 10s and absolutely dominate all season and make the Final Four with ease having been competing for wins every week. Driver B can barely make it in with 1 win, win a race in each round whether through skill or blind luck and make it into the Final Four as well. If Driver B finishes that final race in front of Driver A, whether they simply out race them or Driver A has a mechanical problem and DNFs, Driver B is champion simply because the final race makes everything else irrelevant. The only purpose the rest of the season serve is to determine who gets into the final four. Please explain to me how anyone thinks that's ok in a racing sport.

@johnhaas2523 NASCAR got super popular before the chase. Then they had the one season with Matt Kenseth getting the championship and panicked. They made things worse through several changes including the playoff setup. Formula 1 and Motogp doesn't use gimmicks and they have record viewership and attendance. NASCAR should prioritize the racing. The championship doesn't need anything special.
I definitely think the final race should rotate between the non-drafting tracks. As for rest of the playoffs, how about keeping win and your in but, stopping winners advancing directly into the 4. Podcaster Eric Estepp also had an interesting format idea. I would keep his round structure of 1-3-3-3 except I might consider trimming the regular season to 25 races and making it 2-3-3-3 with locks into the round of 12 for the top 5 playoff eligible drivers.

I listen to the several shows here on dirtymo but I haven’t watched a race all year. I enjoy listening to these discussions while driving or whatever but all this racing K.Wallace and the various folks here on dirtymo say is so good doesn’t look like racing to me. I have watched xfinity segments and the highlight reels a bunch of times. 5:59 logano was eliminated from the playoffs, then wins the championship. Umm. NO!! I hate this make-believe fake ‘playoffs’ anyway. But he was gifted an opportunity by nascar’s rubber rules instead of sticking to the plan. I just can’t swallow it, intellectually, and the racing show is lackluster. Close racing doesn’t make a race anymore than a 8mph go kart “race” is at a beach vacation destination town
Winston cup points. No stages. Half way money no caution. Less road course racing. Qualify to make the race. These are things that should have been left alone.

@19:03 I wish TV would get more cinematic with their Cameras. Back in the day they had low over track camera suspended in the air, wide angles cameras, Camera that would hang over the inside wall in the turns, Cameras in the stands, Cameras that were in the track and the walls and all of that made the experience on tv much more surreal. If they could bring back a few of those and up the broadcast quality of every race to the bare minimum 1080p HD ratings would go up. There is no reason the Coke 600 is being broadcasted and streamed in 720p. Every race should be in 4k , especially in the streaming world, I hate watching extremely zoomed in blurry shots of the cars left front tire. I will give credit where its do, I enjoy the new inside of the car cameras where we can see the drivers face more. you can see their focus and determination makes you see the human element of these mad men. This was by far the best season of racing in so long and I just wish it was broadcasted better so we can bring in more fans. You want sponsors to spend the money and stay, they need the exposure, let their brand be shown in the best, most badass cinematic way possible.
Bobby Allison was awesome. I can remember when he came to a small track on Vancouver Island in Campbell River, British Columbia and he was signing hats and stuff, I still have the hat from him that day. I can’t remember when it was. It’s been a while, but yeah, he was a cool guy. The track was called Saratoga Speedway.

I remember in years past when the drivers all raced like it was a regular race until there was like 50 laps to go to the end of the race. Then came the unspoken working of those who weren't in contention for a win to get out of the way of a Championship driver in a place in the lap so that it didn't cost them more than that current position yet allowed the Championship contender to proceed on up the ladder except for handing them the race win. It was what we knew then as being a good sportsman, of utilizing good sportsmanship. With the current philosophy in the sport there is almost no good sportsmanship.

The Xfinity series has had a better racing product than Cup for AT LEAST 2 years. I believe the Cup car would be much better if they narrow the tires and/or more HP.
At this point NASCAR needs to can the Gen 7 by 2027 and bring a more traditional, stock car for Gen 8...I don't think any changes will hold longterm solutions besides scrapping it and bringing an improved Xfinity car to Cup.

Define perfect. I would say that a format that rewards the best driver over the span of an entire season would be preferable. Maybe no perfect... but preferable. With the old Winston Cup style that's what you had. In F1 and Indycar, that's what you have...

Hear me out… im not sure the old style winston points would be good for what nascars trying to do eventhough us purist would like it.. the argument is why should it come down to one race, one style of track, that may favor certain teams or drivers… what i purpose is still do the playoff format but instead of one race, when it gets down to the last 4 races make that the race for the championship. Have a road course, short track, superspeedway, and a mile 1/2 in the final round for all the marbles between the last 4 or 5 drivers standing that way ALL track type and driving skills are taken into consideration for who the champion is! And only reason i say 5 drivers is to give the regular season champ the automatic bid to that championship last 4 races, running great and being the best all year warrants a huge prize and that should be in… what yall think?
Need to call you out Dale on the playoffs comment. There are 6 NFL wild card teams per season, 3 per division for the last 46 years which equals 276 wildcard teams. Only 6 of 276 have won the super bowl or 2.17%. NASCAR has had the current playoff system and arguably there are about 5 of 9 "wild card" drivers who won or 55.5%. That is a clear indictment of the NASCAR playoff system.
So all the conversation is about whether or not the championship is legitimate. Two teams are suing NASCAR, one is owned by Michael Jordan. They may change the format again. NASCAR executives are saying they’re pissed at the OEMs that they depend on. Another team just shut down. There’s plenty more. I mean, if you look around these could all be signs that the ship is sinking. NASCAR could actually be coming to an end. NASCAR wants drama so badly, ironically the biggest drama may be watching it die.

Flip the stages make the last stage the shortest to take away gas mileage racing. Maybe last stage caution be non-competitive. Equalize gas and tires..
one rule they could make is that if you are not in the playoffs you are not allowed to talk about playoff drivers points position on the radio (because it is none of their business). I know that wouldn't fully stop it but it could prevent major manipulation like what we saw at martinsville and give NASCAR an easy right to penalize if that is discussed on the radio

Been a huge fan of NASCAR...grew up watch your Dad race and will always be an Earnhardt family fan! I have wondered in recent years why the final championship race is in Phoenix (and before that Homestead). I understand that Arizona in November guarantees incredible weather, but it seems like the final race for the Cup should be held at tracks like Daytona, Charlotte, Talladega, Darlington. From a fan point of view, the final race for the Cup should be a lot harder. The Daytona 500, Coke 600 and Southern 500 are hard races that would measure up to a Cup Championship level race.
I agree with you Dale, parking the drivers sends a message to the sponsors and manufacturers more that owner/driver points and crew chief and sponsor suspensions
Homestead was a great option for a final race. Multiple grooves, large track, great atmosphere and starting in Florida and finishing in Florida was like going full circle.

Just an idea for new playoff layout….points until you get to the last 4 races. Whoever has the most points gets the Regular Season Championship. The top 32 cars in points qualify for a 32 spot bracket. Then it’s like an NCAA bracket, 1 v 32, 2 v 31, etc etc. Whoever has a higher finish in the matchup on the first week moves to the Sweet 16. Then elite 8. And then just do a Final 4 for the last race, whoever finishes better wins the Playoff Championship. There could be upsets, or the #1 seed could win it all.
My favorites are the bull rings because if the Modified ranks which I consider to be more of a show excitement wise mainly because I worked on them even mounted Goodyear tires for them till Hoosier came in. Because of the way NASCAR has gone I'm close to getting FLO racing as they cover more racing and I would say more in entertaining. I'm a big fan of Jrs. podcast and will never not watch it because his insight counts along with his chat on the past race and of course racing history!
I'll share a couple thoughts about what drove me away from watching NASCAR. I mostly watched on TV. I'll leave the fake debris yellows off the list, assuming that has been resolved and may not directly influence tv watching based on format. 1. Scheduling. If a race was on the east coast, it would ALWAYS start at 1pm in the 90s. I enjoyed that. Suddenly one year the race was all over the map with start times and it was annoying. 2. Shorten the races. If an event goes on for four hours, I lose stamina. Races should never exceed three hours, and many times should be shorter. 3. Commercials. I haven't seen a race outside of "extended highlights" on youtube in a long long time. Last time I tried watching live, the frequency of the commercials was unbearable. -signed an old fan from the 90s who lost interest in the mid 2000s.
Fake debris cautions havent happened since 2017 really, stages replaced those And about point 2, i dont know how any fan would want LESS of something hes a fan of. Imagine football fans saying "reduce the games to 3 quarters, my attention span isnt long enough" If you dont have the attention span for 3hr races you can always walk away and come back for the finish, but most race fans actually like to spend their whole sunday watching the race. I agree about commercials and 1pm start times though (except for night races ofc)
I hate the playoff comparison to stick and ball sports. NASCAR has nothing in common with football, baseball, basketball, etc. In NASCAR, you race eagainst every single team with every single race vs a 1v1. Every week, drivers compete on a track that races differently than any other track vs playing on the same field/court regardless of location. There is an infinte amount of possibilities that can ruin the race of an innocent driver every week. Why are we comparing an orange to a bunch of apples? Compare the orange to other oranges (F1, Indycar, V8 supercars, IMSA, etc).
I don't want drama. I want reality and finishes to matter. Not every year is 1992 Atlanta, nor should it be. I hate the chase, I hate stages even more. Get rid of the crash clock, get rid of charters, have 43 qualify on speed. Race back to the line, none of these lets crash the field 3x after the official distance of the race at Talladega. Pretty much every change since 2004 and especially 2017 has ruined the sport. "Playoffs" are stupid, this isn't a game, you don't "play" racing. In the current format a guy can win 35 races and still not be champion? That's dumb. If a guy wins 12 races and has 30 top 5s and wraps up the championship with 2 or 3 races to go they have earned it. It's disgusting to call a guy like Blaney champion for 2023 with 13 top 5s for the entire year. That would barely get you a top 10 in the Winston Cup standings.
Harvick won 9 races in 2020 didn't make it, that was a Jeff Gordon 1998 season, but since it's not 1998 he lost, NASCAR in 2024 would find a way where 1998 peak Gordon loses the title!

I wish they would get rid of the cautions that come with it. Imagine, instead of having everyone dividing the stage in half, some might go longer to have a better chance at winning at the end while some might short pit to get ahead at X lap to get some stage points but might jeopardize the runs at the end. Phoenix has run its course. It was done after year 1 of the reconfiguration. We have a track that’s complete chaos with the cutting of the dogleg, they’re 4 & 5-wide & try to make the corner that’s flat so you could completely miss the corner, slide up, and wipe out the cars to your outside & possibly involve the cars behind you. If we’re gonna do Phoenix as the Championship race, you might as well just have it at Atlanta or one of the other Superspeedways. Restarts look like the last lap of a Superspeedway anyways. Phoenix is a joke.
As european I'd like to watch a Nascar race now and then. But I don't understand the format. It's so confusing single race wise and championship wise. Just impossible to look through it as a casual. No idea what's going on.
Take the Stage Cautions out of the final race(s) when they don't mean anything. Let them decide when to pit to give it some extra excitement in the final race(s). It'll feel like the old days for a race or three.
Commenting from the other side of the pond, we love road courses. How do you grow the sport? look at the viewership from outside of the USA. They love them too yes? It seems like a no brainier to continue the mix. If you want to grow your sport you cant rely on ovals solely. Some of the best races this year were road courses . When I play NASCAR heat 5 I don't use the chase system at all, I race old-school points system. Hey Dale, have you thought of interviewing Mark Hallaway( Undertaker)?
I tried that! Season long points with stages made for a good championship, I played as Chase Elliott and ended up losing in later stages of the season to Kyle Busch...he was more consistent when it mattered.
How do you think everyone would respond if the car itself was suspended when this type of manipulation occurs? This would make the Driver, Team, and Owner think more deeply about their actions since they would all be affected financially, plus the Manufacturer and other sponsors would be affected. Manufacturers shouldn't have that much influence on the teams to dictate team actions. Teams shouldn't feel pressured to help each other, even if they are the same manufacturer. In a similar way, Imagine if Coca-Cola pulled the same stunt and heavily influenced drivers/teams to help the other Coca-Cola sponsored drivers... that would be just as ridiculous in the same way.

How in the world wasn't there defined rules with massive penalties & fines already in place for this level of race manipulation!? Already had manufacturer deals for years at plate tracks. I think the best compromise would be. Offer more bonus points for winning during the regular season but not win and you're in. Once the playoffs start, don't reset the points after each round. Just remove the people from the cut line and carry the points forward. While I don't like a one race winner take all I do think it keeps the last race of the year more interesting. So I'd compromise and say keep that. I'd be fine if any one of the 4 drivers that performed the best during the playoffs winning.
Who's to say it was under weight considering it past pre race inspection. Something fell off the car when he hit the turtles and that's what changed to the weight And that could have been a ballast and That's a penalty right there if it is seen
Yes Jr, Atlanta is the best track. Gotta tell the Prime TV guys to pan out so we can see more of the action on our great big TV’s and get the sense of speed. More drone shots too. I don’t want to be able to read the A-Post decals on the leaders car all day. The TV broadcast at Phoenix changed cameras six times per lap in qualifying alone killing the sense of speed. Need to fix this.

We had a sample size of 36 races, it wasn’t joeys fault that Alex Bowman was dq’d. I’m good with the format. It makes the teams dig even deeper with only 4 guys in the winner take all final.
I like the idea of keeping the win and your in for the regular season and set the playoff field the way we do now (except add a top 25 rule) but remove elimination rounds and run 10 races like we use to. Merge the wild card chase with the current format.

All other race series don't seem to have a problem going with the straight forward points system. Playoffs is for ball sports.

Most other racing series don’t compete this deep into the year and are going against NFL for ratings for as many events.

@19:03 I wish TV would get more cinematic with their Cameras. Back in the day they had low over track camera suspended in the air, wide angles cameras, Camera that would hang over the inside wall in the turns, Cameras in the stands, Cameras that were in the track and the walls and all of that made the experience on tv much more surreal. If they could bring back a few of those and up the broadcast quality of every race to the bare minimum 1080p HD ratings would go up. There is no reason the Coke 600 is being broadcasted and streamed in 720p. Every race should be in 4k , especially in the streaming world, I hate watching extremely zoomed in blurry shots of the cars left front tire. I will give credit where its do, I enjoy the new inside of the car cameras where we can see the drivers face more. you can see their focus and determination makes you see the human element of these mad men. This was by far the best season of racing in so long and I just wish it was broadcasted better so we can bring in more fans. You want sponsors to spend the money and stay, they need the exposure, let their brand be shown in the best, most badass cinematic way possible.
Bobby Allison was awesome. I can remember when he came to a small track on Vancouver Island in Campbell River, British Columbia and he was signing hats and stuff, I still have the hat from him that day. I can’t remember when it was. It’s been a while, but yeah, he was a cool guy. The track was called Saratoga Speedway.
What happened to just winning the most races and whoever gets the most points at the end of the season wins the title like Formula 1 and every other form of motorsport...

The playoff championships are almost meaningless compared to Winston cup championships.
I remember in years past when the drivers all raced like it was a regular race until there was like 50 laps to go to the end of the race.
Then came the unspoken working of those who weren't in contention for a win to get out of the way of a Championship driver in a place in the lap so that it didn't cost them more than that current position yet allowed the Championship contender to proceed on up the ladder except for handing them the race win.
It was what we knew then as being a good sportsman, of utilizing good sportsmanship.
With the current philosophy in the sport there is almost no good sportsmanship.

The Xfinity series has had a better racing product than Cup for AT LEAST 2 years. I believe the Cup car would be much better if they narrow the tires and/or more HP.
At this point NASCAR needs to can the Gen 7 by 2027 and bring a more traditional, stock car for Gen 8...I don't think any changes will hold longterm solutions besides scrapping it and bringing an improved Xfinity car to Cup.

Define perfect. I would say that a format that rewards the best driver over the span of an entire season would be preferable. Maybe no perfect... but preferable. With the old Winston Cup style that's what you had. In F1 and Indycar, that's what you have...

Hear me out… im not sure the old style winston points would be good for what nascars trying to do eventhough us purist would like it.. the argument is why should it come down to one race, one style of track, that may favor certain teams or drivers… what i purpose is still do the playoff format but instead of one race, when it gets down to the last 4 races make that the race for the championship. Have a road course, short track, superspeedway, and a mile 1/2 in the final round for all the marbles between the last 4 or 5 drivers standing that way ALL track type and driving skills are taken into consideration for who the champion is! And only reason i say 5 drivers is to give the regular season champ the automatic bid to that championship last 4 races, running great and being the best all year warrants a huge prize and that should be in… what yall think?
Need to call you out Dale on the playoffs comment. There are 6 NFL wild card teams per season, 3 per division for the last 46 years which equals 276 wildcard teams. Only 6 of 276 have won the super bowl or 2.17%. NASCAR has had the current playoff system and arguably there are about 5 of 9 "wild card" drivers who won or 55.5%. That is a clear indictment of the NASCAR playoff system.
So all the conversation is about whether or not the championship is legitimate. Two teams are suing NASCAR, one is owned by Michael Jordan. They may change the format again. NASCAR executives are saying they’re pissed at the OEMs that they depend on. Another team just shut down. There’s plenty more. I mean, if you look around these could all be signs that the ship is sinking. NASCAR could actually be coming to an end. NASCAR wants drama so badly, ironically the biggest drama may be watching it die.

one rule they could make is that if you are not in the playoffs you are not allowed to talk about playoff drivers points position on the radio (because it is none of their business). I know that wouldn't fully stop it but it could prevent major manipulation like what we saw at martinsville and give NASCAR an easy right to penalize if that is discussed on the radio

Been a huge fan of NASCAR...grew up watch your Dad race and will always be an Earnhardt family fan! I have wondered in recent years why the final championship race is in Phoenix (and before that Homestead). I understand that Arizona in November guarantees incredible weather, but it seems like the final race for the Cup should be held at tracks like Daytona, Charlotte, Talladega, Darlington. From a fan point of view, the final race for the Cup should be a lot harder. The Daytona 500, Coke 600 and Southern 500 are hard races that would measure up to a Cup Championship level race.
I thought that was the best next gen phoenix race.

Homestead was a great option for a final race. Multiple grooves, large track, great atmosphere and starting in Florida and finishing in Florida was like going full circle.

Just an idea for new playoff layout….points until you get to the last 4 races. Whoever has the most points gets the Regular Season Championship.
The top 32 cars in points qualify for a 32 spot bracket. Then it’s like an NCAA bracket, 1 v 32, 2 v 31, etc etc. Whoever has a higher finish in the matchup on the first week moves to the Sweet 16. Then elite 8. And then just do a Final 4 for the last race, whoever finishes better wins the Playoff Championship.
There could be upsets, or the #1 seed could win it all.

My favorites are the bull rings because if the Modified ranks which I consider to be more of a show excitement wise mainly because I worked on them even mounted Goodyear tires for them till Hoosier came in. Because of the way NASCAR has gone I'm close to getting FLO racing as they cover more racing and I would say more in entertaining. I'm a big fan of Jrs. podcast and will never not watch it because his insight counts along with his chat on the past race and of course racing history!
I'll share a couple thoughts about what drove me away from watching NASCAR. I mostly watched on TV. I'll leave the fake debris yellows off the list, assuming that has been resolved and may not directly influence tv watching based on format.
1. Scheduling. If a race was on the east coast, it would ALWAYS start at 1pm in the 90s. I enjoyed that. Suddenly one year the race was all over the map with start times and it was annoying.
2. Shorten the races. If an event goes on for four hours, I lose stamina. Races should never exceed three hours, and many times should be shorter.
3. Commercials. I haven't seen a race outside of "extended highlights" on youtube in a long long time. Last time I tried watching live, the frequency of the commercials was unbearable.

If you dont have the attention span for 3hr races you can always walk away and come back for the finish, but most race fans actually like to spend their whole sunday watching the race.

I hate the playoff comparison to stick and ball sports. NASCAR has nothing in common with football, baseball, basketball, etc. In NASCAR, you race eagainst every single team with every single race vs a 1v1. Every week, drivers compete on a track that races differently than any other track vs playing on the same field/court regardless of location. There is an infinte amount of possibilities that can ruin the race of an innocent driver every week.
Why are we comparing an orange to a bunch of apples? Compare the orange to other oranges (F1, Indycar, V8 supercars, IMSA, etc).
I can only think of PGA/Professional Golf that compares. 1v1 on a different length course every week.
I don't want drama. I want reality and finishes to matter. Not every year is 1992 Atlanta, nor should it be. I hate the chase, I hate stages even more. Get rid of the crash clock, get rid of charters, have 43 qualify on speed. Race back to the line, none of these lets crash the field 3x after the official distance of the race at Talladega. Pretty much every change since 2004 and especially 2017 has ruined the sport. "Playoffs" are stupid, this isn't a game, you don't "play" racing. In the current format a guy can win 35 races and still not be champion? That's dumb. If a guy wins 12 races and has 30 top 5s and wraps up the championship with 2 or 3 races to go they have earned it. It's disgusting to call a guy like Blaney champion for 2023 with 13 top 5s for the entire year. That would barely get you a top 10 in the Winston Cup standings.
Harvick won 9 races in 2020 didn't make it, that was a Jeff Gordon 1998 season, but since it's not 1998 he lost, NASCAR in 2024 would find a way where 1998 peak Gordon loses the title!

I wish they would get rid of the cautions that come with it. Imagine, instead of having everyone dividing the stage in half, some might go longer to have a better chance at winning at the end while some might short pit to get ahead at X lap to get some stage points but might jeopardize the runs at the end. It was getting there at road courses but i think it would be way better on ovals
Phoenix has run its course. It was done after year 1 of the reconfiguration. We have a track that’s complete chaos with the cutting of the dogleg, they’re 4 & 5-wide & try to make the corner that’s flat so you could completely miss the corner, slide up, and wipe out the cars to your outside & possibly involve the cars behind you. If we’re gonna do Phoenix as the Championship race, you might as well just have it at Atlanta or one of the other Superspeedways. Restarts look like the last lap of a Superspeedway anyways. Phoenix is a joke.
As european I'd like to watch a Nascar race now and then. But I don't understand the format. It's so confusing single race wise and championship wise. Just impossible to look through it as a casual. No idea what's going on.
Take the Stage Cautions out of the final race(s) when they don't mean anything. Let them decide when to pit to give it some extra excitement in the final race(s). It'll feel like the old days for a race or three.

Commenting from the other side of the pond, we love road courses. How do you grow the sport? look at the viewership from outside of the USA. They love them too yes? It seems like a no brainier to continue the mix. If you want to grow your sport you cant rely on ovals solely. Some of the best races this year were road courses . I tried that! Season long points with stages made for a good championship, I played as Chase Elliott and ended up losing in later stages of the season to Kyle Busch...he was more consistent when it mattered.

How do you think everyone would respond if the car itself was suspended when this type of manipulation occurs? This would make the Driver, Team, and Owner think more deeply about their actions since they would all be affected financially, plus the Manufacturer and other sponsors would be affected. Manufacturers shouldn't have that much influence on the teams to dictate team actions.
Teams shouldn't feel pressured to help each other, even if they are the same manufacturer. In a similar way, Imagine if Coca-Cola pulled the same stunt and heavily influenced drivers/teams to help the other Coca-Cola sponsored drivers... that would be just as ridiculous in the same way.

I think the best compromise would be. Offer more bonus points for winning during the regular season but not win and you're in. Once the playoffs start, don't reset the points after each round. Just remove the people from the cut line and carry the points forward. While I don't like a one race winner take all I do think it keeps the last race of the year more interesting. So I'd compromise and say keep that. I'd be fine if any one of the 4 drivers that performed the best during the playoffs winning.

Who's to say it was under weight considering it past pre race inspection. Something fell off the car when he hit the turtles and that's what changed to the weight And that could have been a ballast and That's a penalty right there if it is seen

Yes Jr, Atlanta is the best track. Gotta tell the Prime TV guys to pan out so we can see more of the action on our great big TV’s and get the sense of speed. More drone shots too. I don’t want to be able to read the A-Post decals on the leaders car all day. The TV broadcast at Phoenix changed cameras six times per lap in qualifying alone killing the sense of speed. Need to fix this.

We had a sample size of 36 races, it wasn’t joeys fault that Alex Bowman was dq’d. I’m good with the format. It makes the teams dig even deeper with only 4 guys in the winner take all final.
I like the idea of keeping the win and your in for the regular season and set the playoff field the way we do now (except add a top 25 rule) but remove elimination rounds and run 10 races like we use to. Merge the wild card chase with the current format.
