I remember I used to question a little bit of how "entertaining" Nascar was when I was younger. But of course that was on TV. Being at a Nascar race is a blast, and there is so much energy. Along with that, the Richard Petty experience where you get to drive these beasts is something that will totally change your outlook on the sport. It's insane. But awesome.
Trust me bro.... we have our fair share of gruff self-entitled Jeremy's here too. What I love about Jeremy though, is he never apologizes for who he is or what he says. And he knows his cars.
“Its complex, It’s not just a loop, it’s three dimensional, and I’m wrestling my way around it in a huge shouty dragon.” That’s NASCAR in one sentence, all right.
@@philsurtees every race car driver even f1 drivers will disagree with you, listen to what people like Hamilton and Daniel Riccardo have to say about it, Daniels favorite racing driver is a NASCAR driver
I’m Scottish and when I lived in LA I got invited to a NASCAR day out. Our party had a RV and we had beer, burgers, steaks, man it was amazing. I went out in the car as well and it was the greatest driving experience of my life. Honestly. What a day out man, I recommend to you all, do it.
UltimaKeyMaster in this hammond was acting..he was smiling and wasn’t even really concentrating. just saying. when hammond was in an F1 car he had to really concentrate to even drive the car properly. just shows why F1 is harder
@@novarl5082 F1 may be more difficult, but you have much more fun in a stock car, especially on a superspeedway. Try driving at Daytona, it's one hell of a time.
@@novarl5082 Not sure F1 is harder. Drive alone on a track is very different to race with other cars. In F1 drivers seldom have to pass 1 lap down drivers instead of NASCAR drivers. These are quite differents sports
@@peadar6981 _F1 is definitely harder because it's much more difficult to keep the Tire temperatures up (makes them sticky) and keep Brake temps up (so they won't lock up) on such a light car, consistently._
I watched a nascar race after seeing this episode and I one thing I noticed is during the pace lap they actually go to one of the drivers and ask them a question a fan has asked while they are preparing to race. I thought that was pretty cool and made them seem so much more approachable and human compared to F1 people.
NASCAR, and stock car racing in general, tries to be the every-mans race format as much as possible while Formula tries to uphold an image of sofistication and wealth, so you probably won't see the same level of fan interaction on purpose, methinks.
That’s the whole point and why they are called stock cars. Goes back to when your friendly neighborhood whiskey runner had to build his car to be faster than any police car he might meet. People start to talk, and soon enough it’s “my car faster than yours” “ Oh yeah, prove it” Years later, you have NASCAR. Part of the charm of NASCAR is that they aren’t the highest evolution of what a race car can be. That’s F1, hands down and not even close. Race cars in NASCAR are too heavy, usually have way more power than the tires can apply to the track before they start spinning, and are generally hard to drive. Add that to the fact that the tires are protected by fenders, and there are too many cars on the track and they hit each other constantly , well, you get top tier American racing. I love F1 cars, and the onboard footage of how they attack the race course with the speed and hand of god braking blows my mind, but I also think that NASCAR puts on a better show. That’s just me though.
For those of you not from America, Richard was talking to a guy named Jeff Gordon about fans going around the track with a driver. Jeff is one of the top 5 Nascar drivers of all time....and my favorite driver ever. He is retired. He retired with 93 wins and 4 Championships. He won 3/4 in the late 90's. 1995, 1997, and 1998, and the final one in 2002.
@@espenfarstad1697I highly recommend Daytona and Talladega for superspeedway races. Martinsvills, Bristol, Dover, and Darlington for short tracks. Watkins Glen and the Charlotte roval for road courses.

I race on a few racing simulators, and I can assure you, just turning left doesn't cut it; If you want to be fast, or keep going in the right direction.

Back in the 70's I was a crew member on a NASCAR Grand National car. I've never been to an F1 race but have been to some road races, drag races, etc. For those inside racing, there's pretty much mutual respect among the different disciplines (except for a few). I've looked over those cars and watched them race and can appreciate what they do and it was generally mutual. Bottom line is racing at the highest level, in any type of racing, is damn hard. The guys doing it just make it look easy. I find the spectators are the ones who get into the "which is best" arguments, a whole lot more than the active racers. And as an aside, I always found that when other racers were watching a different type of racing, I usually heard the most awestruck comments when they were watching World of Outlaw sprint cars. It was always some form of "damn, those guys can wheel".
I know a couple of F1 drivers have raced in Nascar. Juan Pablo Montoya definitely has. (He infamously crashed into the jet truck used to dry the track causing quite the fire) also racing in Indycar. Takuma Sato has raced in Indycar as well.
Every kind of racing takes incredible skill and courage. Personally I think the Isle of Man has to be tops though. Racing fans of all sorts always give each other heat, but it seems that even the most jaded and pig-headed fanboys drop everything and gape when they see that for the first time. And the death stats back that up!
@@kdwaynec Unfortunately a lot of people are ignorant and choose to stay that way lol. That being said, there's also quite a lot of people who just likes to make fun of NASCAR because it's funny, but they know it's damn difficult and scary what the drivers are doing.
I was very dismissive of NASCAR and thought (like a lot of people) that it was just hillbillies going around in a circle. And then I did a track day in an 800bhp beast like this one. Changed my life. : )
Who doesn't like turning left.. I usually come there to eat meat dafukk doesnt like meat Damn mwat welldone 3 bottles of beer endless shouting fck best day
Driving the car is a waaay different than watching someone else do it. Of course you had a blast. Go and actually try to watch a race, completely, and tell me how fun it was. I’m sure watching car crashes is the real reason fans put up with the heat, smell of burnt tires, exhaust, and the insanely loud noise. It’s well worth it for the slim chance of witnessing the potential death of someone.
If you're talking about driving a Richard Petty Experience car like Hammond was in here, then I hate to break it to you pal, but your car was only pumping out around 350-400 horses, not the 800 horses of a real Cup Series car. You only got to taste _half_ of what these cars are really like.
The fastest race car I've ridden in was an OSCAAR (~400-450hp I think) going around a 3/8-mile oval called Kawartha Downs Speedway. The g-forces and the heat from the firewall (which started melting my shoes) were the two biggest eye-openers for me.
I'll admit, growing up I loved watching Formula 1 and countn't understand nascar. "They go in a circle a few hundred times, what's the point?". But over time, I grew to understand it and fall in love with it and was lucky enough to watch a race at Daytona a few years ago. Trust me people, until you're actually there seeing what 200mph looks like with 43 cars literally INCHES apart, you'll never truly grasp how brave/batshit crazy nascar drivers are!
You're going in a circle in NASCAR, IndyCar, F1, GT cars, LMP, V8 supercars, Rally X, one-make races, and all other typesof racing, because you're going around the same fucking course over and over. If anything, racing ITSELF is getting boring.
Rydog5392 well your not a real racing fan you think it’s simple when you are sliding in 180 mph on tracks, anything with racing is hard, all you do is drive around in your mini van all day.
@@butters0y it sure is. I'd like to go racing. I just don't understand the people who don't like Nascar. I'm pretty sure there was a reply saying Nascar was boring, and I replied to them.

@@ps2bndled Hell yeah! My dad and I have never really understood the nickname, as it is big, but we don't see it as ugly or fat -- the fuselage is actually pretty thin
Richard Hammond always struck me as the nicest of the 3 of the guys in that team. The show will go on but he'll be missed more than Clarkson or May I think.
Every so often, I have to come back to this video, almost entirely for Hamster's impressions and reactions. It's clear to me that Richard is having *FUN* ... and if that's not what it's all about, then i don't know what is.
wkvalader Completely agree. Richard was experiencing pure bliss. All 3 of them genuinely love cars and driving, however, it is undeniable that there is no human being on the face of this planet that is more elated to be behind the wheel of an automobile than Jeremy Clarkson. I sincerely hope Top Gear BBC survives the situation they find themselves in presently.
I find it amusing how they edited it that when Hammond asked that driver "What if you were spotted eating a salad?" He responds "Eating salad?" as if he doesn't know what the concept of salad is, when in reality he was probably just confused by the unexpectedness of the question haha
I’ve driven a NASCAR at Homestead through the Rusty Wallace school and I learned two things: you need major balls to keep it flat in the turns and I had much more respect for NASCAR drivers after doing it myself. To go 200 with everyone around you whilst attempting to pass and defend at the same time is no easy feat!
@Michael Pullins there is a very very big difference between 120 mph half ton cars going through things they were built to do, ablit taking a lot of skill you're right there, and 200 mph ton and a half cars with rain on an already slick track, with 42 other cars closer to them than a Dodge Ram on your ass while you're doing 30 over the speed limit on the highway
Michael Pullins Look up the term “Stock Car Racing.” A Stock car is different from a car that is stock. If they actually used cars that were stock you would have teams the tune their Camaro ZL1’s and Mustang GT’s to be able to run 200+ mph, hell you might even find some guy that souped up a Camry to run just as fast. The only reason the cars aren’t stock from the factory is because of the safety aspect, if you took a factory car and raced it around a track at 190-200 mph, you would most certainly die if you were in a crash, like many people did back in the day. There is a reason why the name of the series’ in NASCAR’s pantheon no longer includes the “Strictly Stock” division.
Especially inches away from other cars and the wall plus the car is always fighting the driver and the driver has concentrate on what he's doing while telling the crew chief how the car is holding up and listening to the spotter for 4 hours straight its extremely difficult
Ya know, everyone makes fun of how simple NASCAR races are, but if you actually go to one, its intoxicating. It's like a simple whiskey, from a distance doesn't seem like much, but when you try it, it's a shit load of fun. From the food to the beer, from the music to the screaming engines. Its intense.
US has NASCAR. UK has BTCC. Germany has DTM. Australia has V8s. Etc. It doesn't matter how technical they are, people just love watching their hometown heroes race cars. Bernie Ecclestone is scratching his head wondering why nobody wants to pay to see his races anymore except wealthy autocrats and oil barons, while the grid is made up of a bunch of playboys from Monaco with one team dominating the whole season simply because they spent more millions than the other teams. Sure, there's tons of money in these other race series too, but at the end of the day they're still more down-to-earth than F1 has ever been, and that's what people like.
+koffieslikkersenior +Sean McKinley Not to mention the price. According to the Texas Speedway website, a weekend ticket with pit access up to 1 hour before the race, as well as during free practice and qualifying costs 125 dollars. Basic entry to the grandstands without any access to anything else costs about 150 euro (~170 dollars) for an F1 weekend.
Fetzie Yep, that's true also because of the track (which is awesome) you don't see much of the race. Just some cars passing by every two minutes. Better to watch it at home.
They arent Playboys anymore. F1 is boring because every car is the same, so if someones car is only a little bit better it's much faster than the others. Look at MotoGP, they are all different and because of that some are better on this and some are faster on that track.
I used to hate NASCAR, but judging by these comments, I seem to like NASCAR more because NASCAR fans seem like decent people while F1 fans seem to have a huge amount of hate for no reason.
Rob Hunt most of us NASCAR fans are good people there are a select few (like in all sports) whom are just there for the fights and crashes but a true NASCAR fan is there because we love the racing and the history behind nascar
Rob Hunt probably because of how F1 seems to have a “fanbase” type of fans who strive for one driver/team more then anything compared to nascar where people tend to mix quite a bit
Wow nascar all around probably looks like the most entertaining race event you could go too. I can see why so many people like it. Coming from a guy that's seen 27 F1 races now. Got to to see this sometime, definitely.
Now in 2022, all we have left is Brad Keselowski, David Ragan, Denny Hamlin, Greg Biffle, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Trevor Bayne, Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, A.J Allmendinger, Landon Cassill, J.J Yeley, Martin Truex Jr, Michael McDowell and David Starr.
Note: Starr failed to make the field for the race. And of the drivers I mentioned, only Keselowski, Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Logano, Kurt Busch, Harvick, Truex Jr and McDowell run full time. Ragan and Biffle run part time in Cup. Allmendinger, Cassill and Yeley also run part time cup, but they also run full time in Xfinity. Whilst Starr and Bayne run part time in the Xfinity Series.
Hammond is shouting, extremely terrified. Meanwhile, the professional driver looks like this is a normal drive to the supermarket for him. Lovely sight.
@Mechknight73- I personally find F1 far more entertaining, but I'd be an idiot to say NASCAR drivers are without skill. They are pushing stock vehicles to their limits with no electrical support as you said. Anyone who can drive at those speeds - even if its in a straight line, with no TCS or anything of the sort is a god among drivers. Anyone who doesn't want to accept that should stfu lol.
Richard Hammond is actually really cool and appreciates the way the U.S. Does things and dosen't really talk bad about us. Unlike his co host in top gear.
LAD Fan He had only 2 co hosts on Top Gear. One was Jeremy Clarkson and the other was James May. You could only have been talking about Clarkson, because he's the one who talks about America a lot. I think it's funny though.
People who are dissing out NASCAR are not worhty to be called a motorsport enthusiast. A TRUE petrol hearted motersport fan respects No, LOVES all kind motersports NASCAR, F1, WRC, ect. But than most people here simply bash NASCAR because its an american sport.
I think the problem is people don't really understand NASCAR. I personally don't like it, but I respect it. The sport is more about precision and endurance, whereas F1 is more about speed and skill. Most people couldn't handle a real NASCAR race.
***** I have no doubt F1 drivers deal with more G-force overall, but I doubt the G-force is much of a challenge for any race. Once NASCAR drivers reach the speed they want, the only force they feel is from those very wide turns. NASCAR drivers might possibly feel more force after leaving the pit stop though.
***** The Coca Cola 600 is NASCAR's version of an endurance race. Wide open throttle for most of the race. I tip my hat to the engine builders. The make an engine that can handle it. It all comes down to the drivers. Who is able to handle the noise and heat. Although at night it helps some.
+Brad Gray still haven't had the chance but I wss able to hear it at Daytona. the crashes were awesome to hear as well. Simple sport but yet hard to do.
I just love how excited Hammond was to get behind the wheel of a real nascar vehicle... I honestly want to say he almost looked like a special needs kid but hey he was happy to try it! I’m happy he got that experience... I just wish he was able to do that more often sometimes and document it! Hell I’d love to have him give me a chance to drive a car of his
When i played iracing, i started loving nascar. Adrenaline rush is intense and it looks easy on tv but being in one of the cars is one of the most dangerous experience ever.
I haven't played hardcore Sims but I played it on Nascar 2008-2011 and on gran turismo and I thought the same thing. Once you play it you know how exciting it is and you look at Nascar differently.
Old comment but yeah I agree. iRacing really put into perspective how oval racing is still very difficult, and that's not even to mention how the difficulty is strongly downplayed as it is still just a sim.
Gained so much more respect for Nascar since I saw this episode. Went to my first Nascar race this past Sunday, it was amazing and I would totally go again
Richard Hammond is my favorite of the three hosts. As mentioned, I like how he really appreciates all the idiosyncrasies of America and the other places he visits and just enjoys them. F1 vs Nascar? F1's zooming past is good and all, but 40 cars thundering past at 190mph is one of the primordial experiences of life.
*insert cliche criticism of only making left-hand turns* If you think oval circuits are easy, you might be right. If you think winning on an oval circuit is easy, just remember it's a very equal playing field, and only the best car setup and absolute flawless cornering is going to actually get you ahead of the pack. That said, as a spectator, this shit is boring unless they crash.
+Alex Paulsen Honestly, I quit watching F1 since 2013. Turned to IndyCar and Nascar and I don't regret a second of it. Racing is better, much closely contested and the atmosphere in general is better than current F1
Santiago Machado Just because you don't like one, doesn't mean you have to like the other too. I just go back and watch the classic races I haven't yet seen or read about.
I don’t think Hammond even realizes how many big names he was leading on that pace lap! Edit: Only driver that would have been even more a part of nascar royalty, is The King, Richard Petty. If only they had done this when he was still racing!
I couldn't drive that pace car with Biffle on my ass like that. I would have dragged him out. But after the hymn at the start, I always say: "And most of all, thank you lord for fast cars"
+MrcabooseVG You need to do more research, they've been holding record and setting them for every other country to catch up, except the land speed record, that's because the British have pretty much mastered jet propulsion.
The US hasn't had a land speed record for over 30 years and for a country that was at the forefront for breaking records not overly long ago i find that rather strange. 4 out of the fastest 5 planes ever made were American and that was pretty much entirely in the 60s but that's not a US problem, people don't seem to care about that anymore even though it'd be very useful these days
+Oscar Tobar I find it amusing that he asked Jimmie the question about eating a salad and later we see Jimmie sliding through the grass. Let's call that a little foreshadowing.
They pull so much to the left, you have to really fight it the whole way. And it's particularly weird going into the turns and feeling multiple times the number of G's that a normal car could handle.
Not bad, but I still prefer the old Indycar, before it got split into IRL and CART. It really had the best of everything, open-wheel F1-style turbo-charged cars, city street tracks, ovals, proper twisty race tracks with challenging corners and Juan Pablo Montoya. Oh, I miss those races...
@ Christian Koncz I actually miss the era immediately after the split, 'coz that's when I started watching CART...I loved all those things you mentioned plus the aesthetics of those single seaters as well...those Lolas and Reynards were so sleek and wide...
Im glad they covered NASCAR. This is a really cool video that really explains just how difficult it is to go left. When I was a kid I hated nascar. I thought it was so boring but then when i started driving and learning about allignement and gearing and traction and then seeing a car that goes 200 mph nonstop for hundreds of laps inches even TOUCHING other cars at that speed going into corners while the vehicle constantly wants to go left is absolutely awesome to watch. 3 wide going into a corner on the last lap with every driver with their foot smashed into tho floor to take the checkered flag knowing they all want it, brushing and bumping other cars at 200mph to win by a centimeter...thats Nascar and I have alot of respect for the sport
Nascar is unique. Oval racing is tough it takes strength and stamina. Strategy is involved. Danger is lurking every second. There's a wonderful history there as well. I grew up on it and watched the legacy unfold throughout the decades. If you don't understand those things you can't truly appreciate Nascar. I don't understand cricket so the sport looks absolutely ridiculous to me. If I knew all the rules, grew up with it, understood the inner dynamics grasped the history and appreciated the legends of the sport I might love it.
I've walked out on a NASCAR track. The turns are WAY crazier and sloped much more extremely than you think. The track is actually pretty crazy when you get to it up close.
Looking at the comments, how can any race fan really prefer F1 over NASCAR or NASCAR over F1? They're both fun to watch. You come off as idiots. F1 fan: "Oranges are stupid, all they are is juice, you don't even have to try. Apples are the real fruit because they are harder to juice. Ferrari." NASCAR fan: "Nuh-uh. There are chefs who say Oranges are harder to juice. You ever try to without getting it in your eye? Now that's a fruit. #3"
I haven't really looked at it that way... I agree, since they are, as you implied, two completely different kinds of racing. There is no real way to pick a better one.
Well, F1 takes itself way too seriously these days. What I'd really love to see is something like the old Can-Am series. You'd have to meet standards for safety and whatnot, but other than that you could run anything you wanted. Want to run a 6 wheeled diesel rotary? Sure. A LPG powered radial with rear wheel steering? Fine! A fully electric turbosteamer with AWD? Cool. That would be a neat ass race.
It looks to me like Petty was going to "push" Hammond. It's a pretty common maneuver among drivers on the same team during speedway races. A driver will draft his teammate, building up a head of speed as he approaches. There comes a point where the drafting car gets close enough to the lead car to affect the lead car's aerodynamics, and it gives the lead car a boost in speed. This is a risky maneuver, however, since the lead car loses some grip during it. It's not uncommon to see two or three cars lined up in a push maneuver to give the lead car a boost. I seem to remember, when Dale Earnhardt Sr died in a wreck, that a possible cause of the crash was the loss of air flow over his rear spoiler causing the car to get a speed boost he wasn't expecting, so he lost control and crashed. R.I.P. Intimidator.
@@PowerSkunk92 yeah its called "Bump Draft" looked like KP was Setting him up for it, (probably to encourage Hammond to go a little bit quicker :-p. ) . them big Superspeedway ovals make it look deceptivly Slow on film ! in a race , they d be pushing close to 200mph down the straights ! Hammond really did sound scared and he s a ballsy driver generally speaking!
To F1 fans: Stop trashing NASCAR when you know little about it. To my fellow NASCAR fans: Stop doing the same thing to F1, you are giving the rest of us a bad name! Formula One is more about breaking/acceleration and your cornering ability. NASCAR is like driving 200 MPH in rush hour traffic and is about managing all those cars around you. Both have merit (or else they wouldn't remain popular) so why now do some research before you start giving out a bunch of false reasons why one is better then the other.
scottthewaterwarrior tbh the only 2 things I bash on f1 for is the open wheels and the whole no roof thing. It freaks me out seeing those cars get air born with no roof I've never personally watched an f1 race but I've f1 wrecks and it just freaks me out to much
@@jessicataylor4071 But F1 cars are known for no roofs, and the FIA and Liberty Media are always working on safety advancements. Open wheels are also an aspect that F1 cars are know for
The laugh when he said "Rolling out of the corner now, getting on the gas!" Was all you need to hear to know what those NASCAR drivers experience every weekend lol
This is a uniquely American thing. When someone criticizes you, no matter how well founded that criticism is, just deflect by saying it's because of some immutable characteristic of yours, whether it be race, nationality, whatever. I see this almost exclusively in America
I prefer NASCAR over F1 because there's much more action in NASCAR. 3 wide racing, consistent passing, and fast pit stops makes it really entertaining to watch. In F1, all they do is race in a single file for a few hours, and they rarely pass at all. I really enjoy both F1 and NASCAR, but for the people arguing over entertainment, it has to be NASCAR hands down.
I like both F1 & NASCAR. Both take different skill sets. I find NASCAR is more old school, and the cars takes more man handling. F1 is more of a technology show, it shows the newest tech that will me in road cars 15 years from now. Last summer I got to visit the Charlotte area, and got to see most of the race shops. I also did a tour of Charlotte motor speed way, the tour van stopped on the banking, and the tour guide told us the banking has a rise of 2 stories.
Ugh, I wanted to read more comments like this! Wth? I'm big on driving, love driving...I would imagine racing would be addictive for me. Its sad that its hard to find good dialog between humans on RUclips.
Chamber53dv this is our sanctuary for ordinary car motoring enthusiasts. I prefer to watch NASCAR because I think the cars sound better, and its much more tense, anything can happen! F1 is also great to watch but by the halfway point you kinda already know who's going to win. the only competition in F1 really is for 2nd and third place. 1st place always get too big a lead for it to be interesting
Tʜᴇ Gᴀᴍᴇ Cʜᴀɴɢᴇʀ Yeah, but F1 is like that today. In the old days F1 was tense too. But after 94 when Ratzenberger and specially Senna died. The restrictions grew a lot. Safety procedures intensified among other things. I personally lost a lot of interest in F1. Not because of the accidents diminishing (wich i never cared for), but because of the "behind the scenes" keeping the drivers in check, Never again a driver did some legitimate "crazy" overtakings, or some agressive defense of personal space, you never again saw a driver really, REALY shine. F1 grew as you guys said, somewhat boring, a sterile tech show. F1 was a politics race, but today it is even worse. And it is sad, it was such a marvelous sport. I´ve watched some NASCAR and while i think they are fun, i grow kind of tired of them after a while. I think is because of the lengh. But that is just me, and i uderstand the appeal they have to those who enjoy the full 3 hours of them. Today what I enjoy a lot is the "GT" category. Last weekend there was a race here in Brazil (national stuff), Porsche only cars, super fun to watch. Lots of overtakings, crazy stuff happening, really cool. I tremendously enjoy formula Truck as well, it is fun as hell to see what some of those guys do with those big monsters. Worth cheking it out if any of you guys havent seen before.
PhobosAE yeah, touring car racing is probably my favourite, its on really twisty tracks, in medium-powered cars being pushed to the limit. and you can have light contact without worrying about your wheel flying off like in F1. its like the best of both worlds. proper racing (from f1), mixed with action (from nascar). but the races are fairly short
This is soooooo good. I watch all the latest car stuff on you tube (it is now July 2019) but watching this again reminds me of why original Top gear was the best.
Almost as fun as his F1 foray. Especially when Kyle Petty turned up at the end to hang on his bumper like a madman! I am not ashamed to admit that I would be needing clean pants after that encounter. And so would most of us!
I’m watching this 10 years after the release and I’m still awestruck at how Hammond did some of the most oddly specific things at a NASCAR race, such as talk to Jimmie Johnson about salads and talk with Jeff Gordon about how spectator privileges are vastly superior there than at Formula 1 events. And on top of all that, I get a bonus of seeing some Dodge cars on the track. I remember I used to have a Kasey Kane #9 Dodge with the red and white RAM sponsor die cast when I was little which I loved to death. Wonderful video and thank you RUclips recommended list, you have blessed me today.

DavorMATF is right. NASCAR is rigged as raslin' and fake as frog hair.
DavorMATF probably coming from someone in a retarted country, why don’t you head to a nascar race yourself and see what it’s really about.
I live near this track. There are fun things to do there, but watching cars driving a circle for 500 laps isn’t one of them.

Hey is that the Bungie dog head as your profile picture?
NASCAR, and stock car racing in general, tries to be the every-mans race format as much as possible while Formula tries to uphold an image of sofistication and wealth, so you probably won't see the same level of fan interaction on purpose, methinks.
You should have a look at Lando Norris then
TheKenji2221 ITS FRIDAY THEN SATURDAY SUNDAY WHAT?!?!?

Michael Pullins well you see dumbass you how dangerous that would be right? Not to mention the tires would shred in a mere number of laps
A lot of people think NASCAR is simple. Those people are idiots. Nothing's simple at 200mph.

Sure, there's tons of money in these other race series too, but at the end of the day they're still more down-to-earth than F1 has ever been, and that's what people like.
+Sean McKinley F1 is just dull because of the stupid rules and without the rules it's just madness
+koffieslikkersenior +Sean McKinley Not to mention the price. F1 is boring because every car is the same, so if someones car is only a little bit better it's much faster than the others. Look at MotoGP, they are all different and because of that some are better on this and some are faster on that track.

I like how the general stood up and their was a massive clap, then Richard stood up and like three people were clapping 😂
Wait......jet packs are REAL!?
yep :D
You sir, are an idiot. They've been Invented since the 60's....
***** No hard feelings! haha
I was just responding in the same vein.
Stratahoovius
haha alrighty.
I didn't know they existed XD
People who are dissing out NASCAR are not worhty to be called a motorsport enthusiast.
A TRUE petrol hearted motersport fan respects No, LOVES all kind motersports NASCAR, F1, WRC, ect.
But than most people here simply bash NASCAR because its an american sport.
*Applauds*
I think the problem is people don't really understand NASCAR. I personally don't like it, but I respect it. The sport is more about precision and endurance, whereas F1 is more about speed and skill. Most people couldn't handle a real NASCAR race.
Thank you.
I just gained a whole lot of respect for nascar.
You just gotta go and see it. It's unreal.
+Brad Gray still haven't had the chance but I wss able to hear it at Daytona. the crashes were awesome to hear as well. Simple sport but yet hard to do.
If it took this video, for that to happen, then you're an idiot.
_Now everyone is abandoning it and all the other kneeling Soi-Sports._
I like how he finds respect for NASCAR.
*insert cliche criticism of only making left-hand turns*
If you think oval circuits are easy, you might be right.
+Alex Paulsen What most people don't know is that setting up a car for an oval track is actually more complex than setting up a car for road course.
+Alex Paulsen Nah, it's not boring
I don't doubt that it is difficult to drive a nascar, but it's just so friggen boring to watch
They actually pass each other unlike f1 lol.
Hammond got to drive a Nascar car and an F1 car. Man has fulfilled the dreams of every race fan around the world
Hasn't had his body compressed by a Top Fueler yet.
"what if you were spotted...eating salad"
"Eating Salad?"
I like how that was said as if he was saying the fuck is a salad?
"Eat salad? I eat things that eat salad."
He said to the skinniest driver in NASCAR, Jimmie Johnson
Well said, Jimmie. Well said.
I don’t think Hammond even realizes how many big names he was leading on that pace lap!
Edit: Only driver that would have been even more a part of nascar royalty, is The King, Richard Petty. If only they had done this when he was still racing!
I feel like it would also be pretty funny if Hammond talked to him and realized he and Petty have the same name
It's the thumbnail that sells this video.
GENIUS
B52s, jet pack men, guns, and fast cars! MAN, I LOVE MY COUNTRY!
I couldn't drive that pace car with Biffle on my ass like that. I would have dragged him out. But after the hymn at the start, I always say: "And most of all, thank you lord for fast cars"
+TrainTrackTrav Beer and Red Meat.. Never forget those two..
+TrainTrackTrav Still, the US for all its obsession with speed doesn't have the fastest road car or the land speed record. It's quite disappointing...
"Both of my lungs are on the same side...that's not normal"....🤣😂🤣
Cool Richard hang out with 6 times nascar champion Jimmie Johnson, and nascar legend Jeff Gordon! :D
Edit: Jimmie Johnson is now 7 times.
+Oscar Tobar I find it amusing that he asked Jimmie the question about eating a salad and later we see Jimmie sliding through the grass. Let's call that a little foreshadowing.
Wayland C of course he does
+Wayland C ㅑ
+Wayland C predictive programming
They pull so much to the left, you have to really fight it the whole way. And it's particularly weird going into the turns and feeling multiple times the number of G's that a normal car could handle.
in a way it's like being in a huge centrifuge lol
That's what people don't understand about these cars. Plus, these cars are safer than ANYTHING ELSE you can drive. Way safer than even formula cars.
how about instead of arguing over f1 and nascar, why dont we just enjoy the world of motorsports?
Weird to see TMS @1:25 without the monstrous HD screen on the backstretch...
So can we all agree all motor racing is awesome
Richard Hammond: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Kyle Petty: I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts doo-dee-doo...
Mufasa wouldn't have me sing this...
Not bad, but I still prefer the old Indycar, before it got split into IRL and CART. It really had the best of everything, open-wheel F1-style turbo-charged cars, city street tracks, ovals, proper twisty race tracks with challenging corners and Juan Pablo Montoya. Oh, I miss those races...
actually, montoya came after the split. But i do agree it was better before the split.
Nope... F1 all the way...
@ Christian Koncz
I actually miss the era immediately after the split, 'coz that's when I started watching CART...I loved all those things you mentioned plus the aesthetics of those single seaters as well...those Lolas and Reynards were so sleek and wide...
***** Lmao
Kurt Potter
Montoya used to race F1, but he wasn't good enough.
The track is actually pretty crazy when you get to it up close.
words only spoken by richard hammond:
“nascar royalty, kyle petty”
He is the son of The King, His Majesty Richard Petty.
@@Mr_Roboto has any fifth generation racer emerged from that family?
@@Lakhshamana there would be Adam Petty but he passed away
@@juvito3451 Adam was fourth. Fifth would be his nephews.
@@Lakhshamana technically Thad Moffitt was somehow related, last I checked he was racing in ARCA
I love this most for how much Hammond enjoyed the special treat at the end.
Ferrari."
NASCAR fan: "Nuh-uh.
Cool.
That would be a neat ass race.
f1 ? FUN ??? pfff...........you havent seen super v8, super gt and Nascar...on these one anyone can win...not just a cuple of silver cars
Mauricio Nuñez Well, not anyone. On plate races in NASCAR, maybe.
aren't apples easier to juice they don't have the stupid pulp to deal with
That was cool! But I didn't get the ending...
Nothing really to get, they were just spooking him with another driver.
@@PowerSkunk92 bump draft
To quote Rowdy Burns he was "yanking that rookie's chain".
Don't get me wrong, F1 is incredible racing and I love following it. But physically being at a NASCAR event is like no other. Especially in the pits.
The Intro already made me laugh lmao. JJ couldn’t comprehend such a stupid question 😂💀
Top Gear UK!!!!! There is only ONE Top Gear. No need for the UK afterwards. The other crap you can call Top Gear US
Both the shows are great.
"Richard Hammond." clap (crickets) clap (crickets)
To F1 fans: Stop trashing NASCAR when you know little about it.
To my fellow NASCAR fans: Stop doing the same thing to F1, you are giving the rest of us a bad name!
Formula One is more about breaking/acceleration and your cornering ability. NASCAR is like driving 200 MPH in rush hour traffic and is about managing all those cars around you. Both have merit (or else they wouldn't remain popular) so why now do some research before you start giving out a bunch of false reasons why one is better then the other.
Amen to that! Finally someone who isn`t biased.
scottthewaterwarrior tbh the only 2 things I bash on f1 for is the open wheels and the whole no roof thing.
Open wheels are also an aspect that F1 cars are know for
@@fone5003 I don't care it freaks me out to much race cars need roofs and roll cages end of story
@@jessicataylor4071 There have been more injuries and deaths in Nascar than F1.
it’s a whole different sport when you view it from the inside like this
Comparing NASCAR and F1 is like taking a really good comedy movie, taking a really good drama movie and discussing which is better among the two.
"let me go on my own" = doesnt want to die with you
The laugh when he said "Rolling out of the corner now, getting on the gas!" Was all you need to hear to know what those NASCAR drivers experience every weekend lol
few things make me smile as much as the Hamster screaming in fear XD
F1 fans will never take the time to understand oval racing. just bash it cuz it's an American thing
Tyler Kunzweiler Why are you mentioning F1 fans?!?
Surely NASCAR should be compared to DTM, or V8Supercars.
i hear dem banjos strumming.
This is a uniquely American thing. When someone criticizes you, no matter how well founded that criticism is, just deflect by saying it's because of some immutable characteristic of yours, whether it be race, nationality, whatever. I see this almost exclusively in America
Meerkat More ok

Kyle "Get next to the wall"
Richard " I am next to the wall!"
Almost as fun as his F1 foray. Especially when Kyle Petty turned up at the end to hang on his bumper like a madman! I am not ashamed to admit that I would be needing clean pants after that encounter. And so would most of us!
Welcome to 'MURICA!!!!
