F1 is an ALL-OUT cost is no object racecar. NASCAR is purposely throttled to be like the car you drive every day. American racing is like this across the board (except Top Fuel and Funnycar, although even there they shorten the track after the last death). When you hear "radial tire drag racing" that's so its a tuners race, not the guy with the most money. F1 winner is the guy with the most money. Most money winner is lame and predictable.
If you have to fight about which is better (F1 & NASCAR) and stereotypes about fans, you are not a true fan of either. A true fan is a fan of racing and motorsports. If it has 4 wheels and goes fast, i'm in. True fans can appreciate all motorsports. If you have to call NASCAR fans "yanks" and F1 fans "paddle shift pussies" you are embarrassing yourself. If you prefer one over the other, than watch that one sport. Why try to convince people not to watch something? Grow up and be a true fan or unplug your keyboard.
It's amazing how different these series are. F1 is a massive technology showcase, testing the limits of what's possible, until the rules inevitably change to slow it down. But NASCAR, man, the speeds those guys achieve, and consistently, when you're as bare bones as possible, lots of power, low grip, low tech, alright, so they only turn left in a normal race (and their suspension is tuned to support this), but they'll do it 200 times with their car inches from the guy in front, while the guy behind is doing the same. I think both series are amazing.
Lloyd Jones But just because you don't pass out doesn't mean the constant g-force won't wear you down excessively. Nascar races take much more time than f1 races. That'd have to change if nascar cars were allowed to be faster.
I wish people didn't act like a bunch of stuck up jerks when talking about F1 and NASCAR. If it means anything, I like both of them. I am a HUGE NASCAR fan, but I'm not going to put people down if they like F1. This probably wasn't what they were going for (Hamilton and Stewart), but I know that this video taught me some humility and respect for these two types of racing. I don't really want to argue about about which type of racing is better, because I think it is stupid to do so. They both require talent, skill and contrary to popular belief, athleticism.
I love all forms of auto racing. It’s not that changes that the sports make that’s hurting them. It’s the fans that can’t accept that every Motorsport is challenging and each in different ways. It really is sad to read the comments and see how terrible some F1 fans can be. So to those NASCAR fans reading this, we aren't all cocky insecure little shits, some of us just enjoy F1 racing for the love of motorsport and hold a respect for each and every variation of it.

+coawler oz Haha, yeah - it is funny to hear that. I don't think Americans understand that 90%+ of European cars are manual (aka stick shift). In fact, in the UK there are 2 different driving tests - one for manual, and one for auto. If you take and pass manual you can drive any car. If you take and pass auto you can only drive auto. My wife is American and she loves fast cars - when she bought her manual Tiburon, the dealer asked if she "knew how to drive stick shift ?". It's true when they say that a look can speak 1000 words :)

Any professional racing driver will have not only driven dozens and dozens of cars, but done that for fun as well as for racing. 2/3 of the world has left hand drive and 1/3 has right hand drive - the pedals are always in the same place, and so are the gears. The only difference is whether you you use your right hand or left hand to move the gearstick around. I'd bet you all the smug bragging rights in the world that Lewis Hamilton could hop in to ANY car and drive it to the limit no matter if it's left/right hand drive or manual/auto.
+jipster2020 I dont care how long you have driven a manual transmission, i have since the first time i got my license and fell in love with it and wont drive auto....but neither you nor me would be able to quickly adapt to that type of supersport transmission in a nascar with a manual shift. They're spectacular machines and can be customized to most conditions including dirt. They're on a level on their own and unless you have been practicing in one, wont get it down easily even if you are used to driving other super sport shifters. That said, the same type of precision is needed in an F1 car.
David - I totally agree the cars are completely different beasts, and I can pretty much guarantee it would be an expensive mess if I drove a NASCAR (or F1 car, or WRC car, or Indy car) competitively. Not to say I couldn't drive one because I haven't actually tried, but I've driven manual since I passed my test 27 years ago, and driven both right & left hand manual. However, I'm not a professional racing driver as much as I would love to be in my dreams. The guys we're talking about are. Back in the old F1 days, the cars were manual shift and the gearstick was on the right hand side of the cockpit, so the same as you'd have in a left-hand drive car. You can look up on YT videos of Ayrton Senna driving around Monaco one handed while changing gears (in fact, I'd advise any motorsport fan to look that up - it's pretty insane). Lewis Hamilton has driven that exact same car as part of a Top Gear special tribute, and he was pretty good, so I think it's fair to say he can drive a car you'd expect him to be unfamiliar with. Please don't get me wrong though. I'm not trying to disrespect NASCAR drivers. I love all motorsport. What I am saying is that top drivers can hop in to any car and drive the fuck out of it. It won't take any of them long to catch up whether it's manual shift or paddle shift. The comment on the video saying an F1 driver doesn't know how to drive a manual transmission still stands though, when the whole of the grid (apart from USA driver Alexander Rossi) comes from a country where over 90% of all cars are manual transmission.
As a Brit, thank you so much for posting this. Always interesting to see how motor sport drivers handle race cars different to their own, and also hearing the different terminology used. Would love to see Lewis in a NASCAR race one day - perhaps he could drive the Pace Car for Daytona, that way he could claim he was never overtaken LOL!
@@pedrodorantes3527 You should see how close F1 drivers drive to the walls on street circuits - if they can get 0.01 seconds off their lap time by almost touching the wall, they will do it every lap. In some races, the F1 team may even leave some parts of the car unpainted to reduce weight because the competition is so hard.

It's 2 different driving types. On F1 you have to worry about 2 - at max 3 - other cars. And F1 is more worried about curves while NASCAR is about speed and positioning. So, while in F1 you have to worry about you and another pilot, NASCAR you have to worry about another 7-10 pilots. They are both hard styles and the pilot has to be good to be champion. I love both.
I love Nascar since just seeing rows and rows of 4 or 5-wide cars flying at 200mph at Talladaga. And I also love F1 for the exotic places they go to and the way the drivers handle the cars from the straights of Shanghai and Abu Dabi (think I misspelled that…) to the twisty streets of Monaco…
Two things I've wanted to see since the first time I saw this. 1.) More F1 drivers popping in on stock cars races. Not full schedules, just occasional forays to make things interesting. 2.) An interdisciplinary racing series. At each track, a driver has to run a race in a bulky stockcar, a superlight F1 style car and relatively stock GT type of car. Three races per weekend For the season, mix road courses, street courses and ovals like IRL does. That would really separate the great drivers from the legendary ones.
Im sorry but i disagree, many F1 racers have come to nascar and the most successful one was Quan Pablo Montoya, and he only won 2 races in over 150 attempts, and those wins came in close finishes at road courses he was more experienced at

Thank you for uploading this :) seeing the history of the Watkins Glen circuit brings back both good and bad memories - including the loss of one of the most charismatic drivers ever. I miss the old sound of f1 cars. You could hear it several miles away and, as you got closer to the tract, the sound would go right through your whole body, your ears would be ringing but, you'd end up with a huge smile on your face. It was so distinctive! Such a shame.

F1 technology is superior, no one argues that. F1 racing in my opinion is more interesting but if NASCAR would include more road courses or circuits I would be a devoted fan. F1 cars may be superior in tech, but there is nothing like a big ass V8 in a big heavy car, especially against the new F1 6-cylinder turbos, which I think detract from the total viewing experience. And yes, driving in a circle may seem stupid, until you consider being neck to neck with 50 other cars trying to push you into the wall at 180 mph for 500 laps. Don't call NASCAR a stupid sport if you make stupid statements about it being easy. I guarantee you 90% of the people who talk about how easy it is would crash a stock car in the first lap.
that's a very respectable comment. both are awesome. I guess it's all about what you grow up around. I can see how new comers wouldn't find ovals interesting. as I don't find road racing that interesting either. but it's most certainly not "stupid" as other people would say. I just prefer the close racing and how a centimeter difference in a line can effect your car and lap times. and you prefer more turns on a course. it's all about preference.

Refreshing to see the respect for each motorsport here on RUclips. Usually its just trolls and flame wars. You don't have to watch some of the series but the sheer fact the motorsports are this popular is great.
I haven't watch a race in years but used to be a big F1 fan and loved NASCAR too. So disconnected from it i didn't heard about this. Thanls for posting. There's a little bickering among fans in the comments but not as bad as I expected. The two series are so different you can't really compare them as better or not. I really don't get it, why people hate on Nascar, although, I'm definitely not a fan myself of Nascar, but even if I dislike the sport, doesn't really mean I hate it. It's a motorsport and has lots of common things with every other motorsport, so why hating like an 8 year old kid when you can simply love it or just dislike it? I don't watch Nascar, but I've certainly watched one or another video of a race and I'm fascinated by how they manage to use every milimeter aswell to get ahead of another opponent as they do in for an example in F1. And how they keep themselves from flipping over (considering the low amount of downforce) is astonishing work too! You can't be a lazy, weak and not in shape person with no knowledge of motorsports at all and just jump into an Nascar car and do 10 laps like a pro driver you know...But sure, if you believe you can, then please do. I will sit back and enjoy watching you struggle to even make the car move an inch to begin with, then I will laugh my ass off while you slam into the wall and smash the whole car and injure yourself. Because you haters need a lesson, and that would be a perfect lesson for you.
Why so much hate? It's racing. Two guys that are both very good at what they do got a chance to experience something awesome. I wish more drivers did this. F1 is interesting, but I'm more of a nascar fan, just because it has more action, and yet the reson I like f1 is because of the Monaco grand prix. also I learned more about f1 over two years. and yes before you ask. I miss the v10 sounds of f1 during 1998-2005, I was born in 2000 btw

Lewis drove the balls off that car. He would have to get a little "smoother" in a race or he would eat up the tires lol. It helped that the track dried out, stock cars are just not meant for wet conditions, they get very loose. He certainly had fun.
In F1, tyres are of concern just as NASCAR however, for this demonstration I'd say he 'loosened' up a bit for the viewers. F1 is to spandex as NASCAR is to a overcoat.

I growth up watching F1, but after a visit to relatives in Memphis Tenesse, I learned to love NASCAR. I think both are amazing, No need for comparison, both are way different, but both deserve respect by every racing fan.

Why build a COTA when you have a perfect Watkins Glen for Formula 1? Such a shame. I'm glad I live relatively near Spa, the greatest racing track on the planet (don't be jelly Yankees) but Watkins Glen is truly a spectacular track. The Spa of the USA.
+I Am The Law The problem with Watkins Glen is that the cost of bring the track up to F1's standards would be astronomical. Plus I don't think the local area could physically handle the sheer numbers of F1 fans who would be there for a race weekend. Watkins Glen can handle up to about 40,000 max. Spa on the other hand can handle about double that.
+Andy L There's also the little fact that Watkins Glen is effectively owned by NASCAR, making it difficult to negotiate track dates with a series that is, if not their direct competitor, at least a neutral adversary. So it would not only be difficult to negotiate the dates, it would be even harder to get NASCAR to allow the modifications that would be needed for F1.
+Andy L Personally I think that a modified Laguna Seca would have been an even better option with the likely difficulties that they would have to address in dealing with NASCAR over use of Watkins Glen. Laguna Seca would likely have to be lengthened and some changes made to the run-off areas but that is a great track which deserves more use by a major series. In the end, though, COTA is an amazing and beautiful track in a great city like Austin that is growing more cosmopolitan by the year. And F1 is it's primary tenant, which counts for alot in that they effectively have first choice on track dates, events, and can order modifications made to the track whenever they choose. They would not have that at Watkins Glen.
Wow...if Lewis started racing in NASCAR, I'd start watching NASCAR, he's a natural talent in road courses and given his experience explains why he was faster then Tony. Lewis would totally dominate the road courses in NASCAR. A little disappointed Tony wasn't as fast as I was hoping in the F1 car but maybe it's cause it's expensive peach of machinery and he didn't want to take unnecessary risks which would explain why he didn't do donuts and Lewis did in the NASCAR (I don't call Nascar's Stock cars cause there's nothing stock about them)

Law19157 No I agree with you there. But it's more of a historical thing. When these races started in the 1900s they were called stock cars because they were the production cars of the time. As the sport progressed they just kept the historic name I guess.

+failtolawl ... if it makes you feel a bit better, of all the american car companies, Ford basically had F1 by the balls from 1967 to the early-80s with their Ford Cosworth DFV engine, which every team except Ferrari and a few others ran. 176 wins in F1 is nothing to sneeze at, that's for sure. GM and Chrysler never touched F1 except for a weird Chrysler-budgeted Lamborghini V12 in the early-90s that a few teams ran.
I would like to point out a mistake the announcers made, NASCAR does in fact have suspension adjustment although much more rudimentary then in F1, there is holes in the rear window in which a wrench can be inserted during a pit stop to make track bar or spring wedge adjustments, also they will insert pieces of rubber into the springs to stiffen them up some, they didn't have this at the time but now NASCAR allows in-car adjustment of the track bar as well as brake bias, they can also manually control the cooling ducts for the brakes so that they can allow a certain tire to get hotter or cooler which will change the handling as well
I'm brand new to motorsports... went to an Indy race in Florida recently and really enjoyed it. I then did some research on Nascar, Indy and F1... watched a bunch of races, etc. So far I'm really enjoying F1 the most. In just a few months I'm no longer interested in Nascar, watch Indy if it's convenient, and record F1 races to watch multiple times. F1 is just freakin awesome, IMO, everything about it.
It looks like they really enjoyed getting to drive a totally different kind of car to what they were used to. And they did a really great job quickly adapting to it.

F1 is an ALL-OUT cost is no object racecar. NASCAR is purposely throttled to be like the car you drive every day. American racing is like this across the board (except Top Fuel and Funnycar, although even there they shorten the track after the last death). When you hear "radial tire drag racing" that's so its a tuners race, not the guy with the most money. F1 winner is the guy with the most money. Most money winner is lame and predictable.
If you have to fight about which is better (F1 & NASCAR) and stereotypes about fans, you are not a true fan of either. A true fan is a fan of racing and motorsports. It's amazing how different these series are. F1 is a massive technology showcase, testing the limits of what's possible, until the rules inevitably change to slow it down.
But NASCAR, man, the speeds those guys achieve, and consistently, when you're as bare bones as possible, lots of power, low grip, low tech, alright, so they only turn left in a normal race (and their suspension is tuned to support this), but they'll do it 200 times with their car inches from the guy in front, while the guy behind is doing the same.
I think both series are amazing.

But just because you don't pass out doesn't mean the constant g-force won't wear you down excessively. Nascar races take much more time than f1 races. That'd have to change if nascar cars were allowed to be faster.
I wish people didn't act like a bunch of stuck up jerks when talking about F1 and NASCAR. If it means anything, I like both of them. I am a HUGE NASCAR fan, but I'm not going to put people down if they like F1. This probably wasn't what they were going for (Hamilton and Stewart), but I know that this video taught me some humility and respect for these two types of racing. I don't really want to argue about about which type of racing is better, because I think it is stupid to do so. They both require talent, skill and contrary to popular belief, athleticism.

It really is sad to read the comments and see how terrible some F1 fans can be. So to those NASCAR fans reading this, we aren't all cocky insecure little shits, some of us just enjoy F1 racing for the love of motorsport and hold a respect for each and every variation of it.

Haha, yeah - it is funny to hear that. I don't think Americans understand that 90%+ of European cars are manual (aka stick shift). In fact, in the UK there are 2 different driving tests - one for manual, and one for auto. If you take and pass manual you can drive any car. If you take and pass auto you can only drive auto. My wife is American and she loves fast cars - when she bought her manual Tiburon, the dealer asked if she "knew how to drive stick shift ?". It's true when they say that a look can speak 1000 words :)

Not sure I agree with you there. Any professional racing driver will have not only driven dozens and dozens of cars, but done that for fun as well as for racing. 2/3 of the world has left hand drive and 1/3 has right hand drive - the pedals are always in the same place, and so are the gears. The only difference is whether you you use your right hand or left hand to move the gearstick around.
I'd bet you all the smug bragging rights in the world that Lewis Hamilton could hop in to ANY car and drive it to the limit no matter if it's left/right hand drive or manual/auto.
+jipster2020 I dont care how long you have driven a manual transmission, i have since the first time i got my license and fell in love with it and wont drive auto....but neither you nor me would be able to quickly adapt to that type of supersport transmission in a nascar with a manual shift. They're spectacular machines and can be customized to most conditions including dirt. They're on a level on their own and unless you have been practicing in one, wont get it down easily even if you are used to driving other super sport shifters. That said, the same type of precision is needed in an F1 car.
David - I totally agree the cars are completely different beasts, and I can pretty much guarantee it would be an expensive mess if I drove a NASCAR (or F1 car, or WRC car, or Indy car) competitively. Not to say I couldn't drive one because I haven't actually tried, but I've driven manual since I passed my test 27 years ago, and driven both right & left hand manual.
However, I'm not a professional racing driver as much as I would love to be in my dreams. The guys we're talking about are. Back in the old F1 days, the cars were manual shift and the gearstick was on the right hand side of the cockpit, so the same as you'd have in a left-hand drive car. You can look up on YT videos of Ayrton Senna driving around Monaco one handed while changing gears (in fact, I'd advise any motorsport fan to look that up - it's pretty insane). Lewis Hamilton has driven that exact same car as part of a Top Gear special tribute, and he was pretty good, so I think it's fair to say he can drive a car you'd expect him to be unfamiliar with.
Please don't get me wrong though. I'm not trying to disrespect NASCAR drivers. I love all motorsport. What I am saying is that top drivers can hop in to any car and drive the fuck out of it. It won't take any of them long to catch up whether it's manual shift or paddle shift.
The comment on the video saying an F1 driver doesn't know how to drive a manual transmission still stands though, when the whole of the grid (apart from USA driver Alexander Rossi) comes from a country where over 90% of all cars are manual transmission.
As a Brit, thank you so much for posting this. Always interesting to see how motor sport drivers handle race cars different to their own, and also hearing the different terminology used. Would love to see Lewis in a NASCAR race one day - perhaps he could drive the Pace Car for Daytona, that way he could claim he was never overtaken LOL!

@@pedrodorantes3527 You should see how close F1 drivers drive to the walls on street circuits - if they can get 0.01 seconds off their lap time by almost touching the wall, they will do it every lap. In some races, the F1 team may even leave some parts of the car unpainted to reduce weight because the competition is so hard.

Lewis Hamilton is something else. In all my years of watching racing, i have never seen a driver with that much raw talent
It's 2 different driving types. On F1 you have to worry about 2 - at max 3 - other cars. And F1 is more worried about curves while NASCAR is about speed and positioning. So, while in F1 you have to worry about you and another pilot, NASCAR you have to worry about another 7-10 pilots.
They are both hard styles and the pilot has to be good to be champion.
I love both.
I love Nascar since just seeing rows and rows of 4 or 5-wide cars flying at 200mph at Talladaga. And I also love F1 for the exotic places they go to and the way the drivers handle the cars from the straights of Shanghai and Abu Dabi (think I misspelled that…) to the twisty streets of Monaco…
Two things I've wanted to see since the first time I saw this. 1.) More F1 drivers popping in on stock cars races. Not full schedules, just occasional forays to make things interesting. 2.) An interdisciplinary racing series. At each track, a driver has to run a race in a bulky stockcar, a superlight F1 style car and relatively stock GT type of car. Three races per weekend For the season, mix road courses, street courses and ovals like IRL does. That would really separate the great drivers from the legendary ones.
For your 2nd point, Race of Champion is kinda like that, minus the tracks.
I'd love to see Hamilton give NASCAR a shot. I feel like he'd be pretty solid after a few seasons. Guy has talent for sure.

Im sorry but i disagree, many F1 racers have come to nascar and the most successful one was Quan Pablo Montoya, and he only won 2 races in over 150 attempts, and those wins came in close finishes at road courses he was more experienced at

I miss the old sound of f1 cars. You could hear it several miles away and, as you got closer to the tract, the sound would go right through your whole body, your ears would be ringing but, you'd end up with a huge smile on your face. It was so distinctive!

F1 technology is superior, no one argues that. F1 racing in my opinion is more interesting but if NASCAR would include more road courses or circuits I would be a devoted fan. F1 cars may be superior in tech, but there is nothing like a big ass V8 in a big heavy car, especially against the new F1 6-cylinder turbos, which I think detract from the total viewing experience. And yes, driving in a circle may seem stupid, until you consider being neck to neck with 50 other cars trying to push you into the wall at 180 mph for 500 laps. Don't call NASCAR a stupid sport if you make stupid statements about it being easy. I guarantee you 90% of the people who talk about how easy it is would crash a stock car in the first lap.

I can see how new comers wouldn't find ovals interesting. as I don't find road racing that interesting either. but it's most certainly not "stupid" as other people would say. I really don't get it, why people hate on Nascar, although, I'm definitely not a fan myself of Nascar, but even if I dislike the sport, doesn't really mean I hate it. It's a motorsport and has lots of common things with every other motorsport, so why hating like an 8 year old kid when you can simply love it or just dislike it?
I don't watch Nascar, but I've certainly watched one or another video of a race and I'm fascinated by how they manage to use every milimeter aswell to get ahead of another opponent as they do in for an example in F1. And how they keep themselves from flipping over (considering the low amount of downforce) is astonishing work too!
You can't be a lazy, weak and not in shape person with no knowledge of motorsports at all and just jump into an Nascar car and do 10 laps like a pro driver you know...But sure, if you believe you can, then please do. Lewis drove the balls off that car. He would have to get a little "smoother" in a race or he would eat up the tires lol. It helped that the track dried out, stock cars are just not meant for wet conditions, they get very loose. He certainly had fun.

As a huge F1 fan, I would love to see Lewis in Sprint Cup when his F1 days are done. He'd probably be the biggest thing to happen to NASCAR since Tim Richmond's pure talent came on the scene.

Great video. Two gentlemen. No point arguing about who is best, they both drove well and the cars are very different. Hats off to Stewart as the transition to F1 must have been astonishing. Lewis could drive the wheels off anything.
I growth up watching F1, but after a visit to relatives in Memphis Tenesse, I learned to love NASCAR. I think both are amazing, No need for comparison, both are way different, but both deserve respect by every racing fan.

NASCAR ran Suzuka a couple of times back in the 90s and F1 used to race at Watkins Glen.
This seems like such an awesome feelgood event for everyone involved, including commentators and fans. So much joy, love and respect for each other.

Why build a COTA when you have a perfect Watkins Glen for Formula 1? Such a shame. I'm glad I live relatively near Spa, the greatest racing track on the planet (don't be jelly Yankees) but Watkins Glen is truly a spectacular track. The Spa of the USA.
+I Am The Law Spa is a great track tough, but in my opinion Bathurst is the greatest track on earth (Please don´t be jelly European ;)
+I Am The Law The problem with Watkins Glen is that the cost of bring the track up to F1's standards would be astronomical. Plus I don't think the local area could physically handle the sheer numbers of F1 fans who would be there for a race weekend. Watkins Glen can handle up to about 40,000 max. Spa on the other hand can handle about double that.

+Andy L There's also the little fact that Watkins Glen is effectively owned by NASCAR, making it difficult to negotiate track dates with a series that is, if not their direct competitor, at least a neutral adversary. So it would not only be difficult to negotiate the dates, it would be even harder to get NASCAR to allow the modifications that would be needed for F1.
+Andy L Personally I think that a modified Laguna Seca would have been an even better option with the likely difficulties that they would have to address in dealing with NASCAR over use of Watkins Glen. Laguna Seca would likely have to be lengthened and some changes made to the run-off areas but that is a great track which deserves more use by a major series. In the end, though, COTA is an amazing and beautiful track in a great city like Austin that is growing more cosmopolitan by the year. And F1 is it's primary tenant, which counts for alot in that they effectively have first choice on track dates, events, and can order modifications made to the track whenever they choose. They would not have that at Watkins Glen.
Wow...if Lewis started racing in NASCAR, I'd start watching NASCAR, he's a natural talent in road courses and given his experience explains why he was faster then Tony. Lewis would totally dominate the road courses in NASCAR. A little disappointed Tony wasn't as fast as I was hoping in the F1 car but maybe it's cause it's expensive peach of machinery and he didn't want to take unnecessary risks which would explain why he didn't do donuts and Lewis did in the NASCAR (I don't call Nascar's Stock cars cause there's nothing stock about them)

Law19157 No I agree with you there. But it's more of a historical thing. When these races started in the 1900s they were called stock cars because they were the production cars of the time. As the sport progressed they just kept the historic name I guess.

+failtolawl ... if it makes you feel a bit better, of all the american car companies, Ford basically had F1 by the balls from 1967 to the early-80s with their Ford Cosworth DFV engine, which every team except Ferrari and a few others ran. 176 wins in F1 is nothing to sneeze at, that's for sure. GM and Chrysler never touched F1 except for a weird Chrysler-budgeted Lamborghini V12 in the early-90s that a few teams ran.

I would like to point out a mistake the announcers made, NASCAR does in fact have suspension adjustment although much more rudimentary then in F1, there is holes in the rear window in which a wrench can be inserted during a pit stop to make track bar or spring wedge adjustments, also they will insert pieces of rubber into the springs to stiffen them up some, they didn't have this at the time but now NASCAR allows in-car adjustment of the track bar as well as brake bias, they can also manually control the cooling ducts for the brakes so that they can allow a certain tire to get hotter or cooler which will change the handling as well

I'm brand new to motorsports... went to an Indy race in Florida recently and really enjoyed it. I then did some research on Nascar, Indy and F1... watched a bunch of races, etc. So far I'm really enjoying F1 the most. In just a few months I'm no longer interested in Nascar, watch Indy if it's convenient, and record F1 races to watch multiple times. F1 is just freakin awesome, IMO, everything about it.
Formula 1 is a fascinating sport.
