- Following the F1 season finale, Fernando Alonso car swapped with seven-time NASCAR world champion Jimmie Johnson at the Bahrain International Circuit. Each driver jumped into the cockpit of their counterparts: Jimmie in a McLaren F1, and Fernando in a NASCAR.
The two legendary world champions went head-to-head in the desert to get a glimpse of how the other half live. And boy, was it epic.

This video was immensely disappointing. Thank you.
this was a teaser for a tv show that was on in England from what I gathered from other comments
Makes me so sad that Fernando had to end his career with such uncompetitive cars.
Captain Picard he didn’t end it. He took another step to win the indy500. He only quit f1, not racing as a whole.
His own fault.
He ended up first on the WEC LMP championship with 1st place on 24h of Le Mans and other races.
Same with Johnson, his last year full time in NASCAR. After winning 7 championships, he hasn't won in a long time.
Dont feel too sad for him he made millions in the uncompetitive cars
Yes Liberty, this is how you get more people from the US to look at F1
This is McLaren's page
This is nothing to do with liberty

Tony Stewart and Lewis did this years ago at Watkins Glen.... It was Covered "live" on SPEED. They had both Nascar commentators and the SPEED F1 commentators covering it.
@Dawn Keebolz turn left and left and left and guess what's next you got it turn left .... nascar is not a motorsport it's a roundabout with no exits...... maybe this is why there are not many in America as they would draw a crowd
FA: That was fun.
JJ: OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
Well I mean it's hard to get the full experience of a Nascar Stock Car if it's not on the big ovals or in a big drafting pack.
It's the same when Alonso would drive a GT3 car obviously its not as mind blowing as F1
"Here we have Jimmie Johnson's NASCAR, and here we have the McLaren car, the 2013 model" lol

@@benguest4834 you know that they do them on purpose right? McLaren changed the livery on their normal cars, so they also changed their livery on the test cars, which in this case are the 2013 model.
F1 has do many regulations, you can't just use a current model due to testing rules
It has to do with F1 testing rules, when Hamilton and Tony Stewart swapped rides in 2011, McLaren had to use the 2008 car.
3:37 I was poor so I never had that lmao
They must have so much money that NASCAR shipped a whole car and crew over from the States to *Bahrain* to run a few laps, get some brief interviews and soundbites, just to compare the drivability between the two cars. Must be nice..
A Chaps they could prolly make the chassis there I’m guessing so it’s prolly not that expensive but idk
Holy crap, why cover up those beautiful engine sounds with music? I love the old school OHV V8 barble of stock cars.
My favorite part was them talking for 4:50 and then 16 seconds of the cars going down the straight. EPIC.
People are a little to condescending to Nascar as a whole..... remember Fernando spun out, JJ didnt. Nascars are very difficult to drive (even in an oval), both F1 and Nascar drivers have an immense understanding of autosports and driving.

A NASCAR car is pretty much a souped up normal car. A F1 car is a different kind of driving, altogether.
F1 drivers have always mentioned the power when describing a cup car and what does Nascar do? Take away the power

Yeah sure bud
Jimmie was so astounded while Fernando just seemed pretty normal, guess one gets used to reaching 300 kp/h in a couple of seconds and 4g through the corners 😂
You make it seem as if NASCAR drivers don't experience massive G-loads. While they may not be pulling 4-5 Gs, they are often experience 2-4 Gs for a much more prolonged period of time, especially at tracks like Daytona and Talladega where drivers can be flat out trough all 4 highly banked turns.
@@andrewperkins8053 ok but has a NASCAR ever rip through a chicane at 100mph with a super quick reaction time making spa one of my favorite tracks
@@scat3926 look up the charlotte roval
To be 100% fair, the track they're at suits what the F1 car does best. It's hard to get the full experience of a top level stock car if you're not at Daytona or Talladega in the giant draft
@@scat3926 ofc not. The cars are heavy. Why tf are we comparing a stock car to a open wheel car?
Some F1 fans seem to think that NASCAR drivers don't experience high G-Forces. While they may not be pulling 4-5 Gs under braking, they often experience 2-4 Gs for a much more prolonged period of time, especially at tracks like Daytona and Talladega where drivers can be flat out through all 4 highly banked turns. Some also seem to think that NASCAR requires far less skill than F1 because "all they do it turn left". Those people seem to forget that these cars have almost zero downforce, thus very little grip, weigh over twice as much as an F1 car (NASCAR 3,400 lb [1,542 kg] vs. F1 1548 lb [702 kg]), and often race at speeds in excess of 200 mph (320 kph) while bumper to bumper at tracks like Talladega and Daytona. Don't take this as me trying to bash Formula 1, as I'm a huge fan of both motorsports; it just gets old to see and hear non-NASCAR fans/followers trash it for "not being Formula 1".
I agree that nascar does require skill, but it is much much easier compared to f1. Nascar don't feel proper g forces because their body isn't exposed to the drag. F1 drivers experience a lot of g force in their neck and that's the reason they have the strongest necks in sport
i want Alonso to run the Daytona 500 :)
is this just a rumor?
Yeah I want him to 'do a Kimi' and run some NASCAR races.
Nah, he'll go for the Indy 500 because he's aiming for the triple crown
I want Alonso to run the Daytona 500 and Jimmie to run the Indy 500
Alonso, en la entrevista después del podio de Lemans, se le escapó que su intención era la Tetra Corona. Correrá en Daytona.
Alonso said after the podium of lemans, who would try to overcome the triple crown, adding the championships and other iconic races. The champioships maybe not yet, but he wants to try the iconic races to catch experience.
The way to do this video better:
- More video of actual driving
- Lap times for each driver for each car
“it feels great”....much slower than before 😂😂
Toilet bowl racing vs. Gentlemen's racing. If these were daily driving road cars, it would be akin to going from a McLaren to a Mustang or Corvette.
uh oh it's one of the people who leve a stain on f1
Nobody buys Mclarens or British cars for that matter. A new Corvette Z06 would lap most of your British cars.
F1 cars are better, but NASCAR races are more exciting.
That ain't true though
@Barnaby Dodd agreed
I just wish that they would do one of these things at Daytona where the F1 car could run on the road course and the NASCAR car could run on the oval.
I really hate how you guys discriminate against American viewers here. All the hype that went into this, and everyone in the land of NASCAR was deprived of the chance of actually seeing either driver’s run, as it was only ever broadcast on Sky. And then, in the same breath, you’ll wonder why Americans don’t develop an interest in F1.
A NASCAR is a car modified to race. A F1 is a racing machine inspired by a car.
Hence their different reactions.
F1 is the theater and NASCAR is fucking in the back row at the movies. All in what you like.
Disappointing - they could have done so much more with this.
I could almost hear every NASCAR fan screaming whenever someone called the stock cars “nascars”
Low revving V8? Those NASCAR motors can almost spin at 10k rpm

Lightning McQueen and Francesco Bernoulli's reunion looks great
Who is here after jimmie announced next year he would be driving f1?
Dear McLaren, it’s called a stock car. Not a nascar.
That is like racing a Leer Jet with a Jambo Jet.
Lol low revving v8 that revs over 9k
It is low revving compared to one that revs at 18k.
Its all about perspective. If my truck reved that high, i would be picking up pistons from across the parking lot. lol
F1 engine idles at 7000rpm and race spec around 10 000rpm
NASCAR's pushrod V8's would be turning significantly over 10k if the ruling org didn't spec gear rules. The engines have plateaued at 94-9800rpm for almost a decade now because of these silly rulesets. NHRA Prostock too, which is even more stupid. 500 cubic inch pushrod V8's that were turning almost 11k rpm, now limited to 10,500. It really hurt the Mopar cars, now it's an all Chevy series and dying. Which is sad, N/A pushrod motors making almost 3hp/inch at 500 inchs.
While the Nascar V8 revs slower than the F1 2.4 V8, the piston speed is significant higher on the Nascar V8 due to stroke lenght.
Fernando trying hard not to say nascar car is slow
Most F1 beginners stall the car trying to take off from a stop watch Richard Hammond try to drive one Jimmie is driving his own car and Alonso is doing the same there not swapping trust me

Porsche 919 lap time at Nurburgring 5:19! Neither the Formula One or the NASCAR race car can get within a minute.
NASCAR, take notes. Put this on the schedule
“Big, heavy, low revving v8...”
Massive compared to what it’s sitting next to, but fairly average size/weight for a small block.
10k rpm isn’t low revving for a 5.8L v8. I bet the piston speed (how fast the piston travels) is similar to the F1. Despite spinning about half the speed, the piston has to travel about twice as far per rotation.
Any lap time comparisons? Each driver drive each car for a few laps and compare? I would bet the F1 car is several seconds faster with both drivers

NASCAR: SPEED!
I love how Fernando is trusted with Jimmie’s actual NASCAR but Jimmie only gets the 2013 McLaren F1 car.
That has nothing to do with Trust. U arent allowed to use modern F1 cars because they could technically gain data from that. The rulebook Limited on track testing to a specific week
Rumor is that Jimmy didn't want to stop driving the F1 car, while Alonso was done after two laps.
