Came here to say the same thing. According to Roy Underhill, it is the best wood for steam bending, the berries are edible but have almost no flesh on them.
Wow ty gor the info! Im from the pnw and a former foresty worker , my dad was a log scsler and my.grandad was a forester trained in collage! Ive never seen one untill now
a Hackberry tree has rather narrow leaves and the bark is rough, but not usually that bumpy. They also have an aggressive root system with large major roots.
I didn’t think you were going to have a video for us today but you were just running late. You’ve done a great job clearing around that pond. It’s looking so much better now.
You sure made that pond look nicer. Thanks for carrying the viewers along with you. If never gets boring watching you when your sprucing up an overgrown and neglected site.
Enjoy your videos very much. Your work is always beautifully done. Whatever happened to John? Haven’t seen him working with you in a long time. When did you stop working for your uncle and go full time self employed? I appreciate the time you put into posting this content. Thank you.
Chris hasn't worked with his uncle John's business for quite some time.. he did use John's truck to deliver some gravel a while ago while John was on holidays..
Those carpet roots happen when the soil is saturated and oxygen is low. Same happens with shallow bedrock. Its called a limiting layer. Trees that require deeper roots typically die in saturated soils.
Pond already looks so much better. Good view. Looks like a Hackberry tree? Menace but makes a dense fence row. We have them all over Texas. Thanks Chris. Have a great week.
Head of the pond looks like a spot I was cleaning up last summer. Found out about halfway through that I was riding on a crust about 2' thick when all of the sudden it broke like ice. Next thing I knew I was floorboard deep the muck 😮😮😂😂😂. Finally got it out 7 hours later. I was just about ready to call you for help. Thanks for all the instruction and wisdom!!
Haha, Chris, I was just thinking the windows would be getting on your nerves 😂😂. No sooner I thought it and you mentioned it. Always enjoy your vids over supper after work. ✌️🇨🇦
Peaceful and beautiful morning - way out in the bush = heaven. Surprise that it isn't muddy - easier to clear though. Simple way to wash the windows - well practiced and it works. Opened up the area significantly.
Hopefully the owner will just let you make a nice little pond out of that mess. It looks like it was intended to just be a water hole for cattle. It's shallow and no steep sides to make a cow get cought and drown. Great job again Chris.
Pond looking better getting the tree and bushes off the edges. Some those tree roots blankets, you could keep warm in the winter if you had to. Thanks for the video
Nice job, great video, that was some serious roots on the majority of those trees.can’t wait till you complete the transformation on the pond,I know it’s gonna be a while but I’m sure will be worth the wait.beautiful land.continue doing what you do best 😎😎😎👍👍👍
If it wasn’t so difficult to transport, this would be a fun and awesome place to setup the dragline. Here in Kansas we have so many of those Hackberry trees. They get huge. (3-5 foot diameter trunks.) They are excellent firewood. One unique thing is in the winter you can cut them and easily burn them the same day.
The transformation of that pond is nothing short of amazing it is really a or going to be a pitcher for sure Chris has transformed it and not even finished yet cheers
@34:17 "evedently were into our solar eclipse right now ... " < LETSDIG18> reflection has it's own mini eclipse against the cab reflection right to left - right on cue commentary 😂❤
Agree with Hackberry. Really hard wood. Took down two of them in the back yard recently & dulled the chain several times!! Your way is faster. Looking good Chris. 👏👏👏💯💯👏👏👏
Looks like either a Hackberry or a Elm, Elm is really brittle like that and have a kind of a oval shaped leaf that has a point on the end with a center vein and smaller veins that come off it to the outer edges of the leaf
My guess is that there was always a pond there and at some point it was enlarged by damming up the bank on the lowest side, hence the reason it has that beauty and natural character…I’d have left more trees :-) especially the hackleberry! It was a fine specimen and considering how old, tall and majestic it can grow, would have enhanced the site. I’m glad you and the owner do talk about what trees to keep though :-)
Yup that WAS a Hackberry tree. We have a lot of them here in Western Kentucky. I have taken out a buch of them from fence rows and wood lines here on the farm
Slow it's to see how You have Planing this Pond a new Face to give. A Interesting Idea. Thanks for this Video, and I gladden my of the next from this Work. 👌🤗
Got it looking a 1000% better Chris !! I just cut down a couple of those trees myself, and I was asking myself the same thing ?? lolol... Don't know what they are either...lolol... Here in Western Ky. where We live , I think the Eclipse was only like 96% totality but, just 40 mi. or so North to Evansville IN. they went 100% Dark !! Still looked pretty cool here though !! But, got the old pond coming on a long man !! Huge difference already, looks like a nice little pond, just needs to be dug out some, didn't ya say, it is pretty shallow ?? But, Great as always Chris !! Have a Great Day !! Don't know how I missed the video yesterday ?? But, Have a Good one Today !! And, On too the Next !!
From a google search: Celtis occidentalis (American Hackberry, Beaverwood, Common Hackberry, False Elm, Hackberry, Nettle Tree, Northern Hackberry). Similar to or the same as European hackberry. It is native to the Mediterranean region including parts of southern Europe, northern Africa and western Asia. In Australia it is know as Celtis australis. It is a deciduous tree with a wide spreading crown. It competes with native plants and forms dense stands along waterways.
Tree with warts is a Hackberry.
Came here to say the same thing.

Hackberry trees are bad news, they will crash down in the smallest breeze
Just about the say that.. I have a few on my property...
Or beech tree
Pond sure is turning out beautiful. My vote is a hackberry tree.
a Hackberry tree has rather narrow leaves and the bark is rough, but not usually that bumpy. They also have an aggressive root system with large major roots.
By summer, hackberry leaves will be covered in green "warty" galls.
@@Dave_9547mature Hackberry trees have very bumpy bark, like Chris said looks like warts
Some people say they have to clear their schedule, your schedule is clearing!!!😂😂😂 Have a good one Chris, take care and God Bless!!!❤😊
I didn’t think you were going to have a video for us today but you were just running late. You’ve done a great job clearing around that pond. It’s looking so much better now.
Same
The opening shot with the mist over the water was beautiful. Thanks for the videos.
Love watching you work and explaining your thought process along the way!
I am constantly amazed at the finesse that Chris shows in working large equipment. Thanks for sharing.
You sure made that pond look nicer.
Thanks for carrying the viewers along with you.

I miss these kind of videos!!! This is exactly the kind of video I first saw of you on RUclips 5 years ago and haven't stopped watching

Chris you need to clean your windows 😆 🤣 😂 Great video can't wait to see the upgrades you do to the 330

What a difference you've made here. You do some of the finest work and are a joy to watch. Thanks for sharing, Chris. This was fun.
Mulberry? Great job Chris! Looks nice. I’ve seen Mulberry trees with fruit and without, it looks like what I always called a male tree.
Making a cute little pond a very beautiful pond, love watching!!!😊
I love watching your videos, keep these coming Chris. You really know your stuff in the excavation business.
Haha, Chris, I was just thinking the windows would be getting on your nerves 😂😂. No sooner I thought it and you mentioned it. Always enjoy your vids over supper after work. ✌️🇨🇦
without a better view of the "warty" tree, my guess is a hackberry tree
Far nicer surroundings than piles of concrete. Never get tired of the sound of cracking branches in the countryside.
Peaceful and beautiful morning - way out in the bush = heaven. Surprise that it isn't muddy - easier to clear though. Simple way to wash the windows - well practiced and it works. Opened up the area significantly.
Looking really good so far, landowner has to be thrilled w that progress
Nice little pond now. Can't for the mother of all brush piles!
Hopefully the owner will just let you make a nice little pond out of that mess. It looks like it was intended to just be a water hole for cattle. It's shallow and no steep sides to make a cow get cought and drown. Great job again Chris.
It's amazing watching you work with your machine. It's like an extension to your hands.
Pond looking better getting the tree and bushes off the edges. Some those tree roots blankets, you could keep warm in the winter if you had to. Thanks for the video
Enjoy your commentary as you work Chris.
Very entertaining video Chris. Pond is looking great. God Bless.
I ❤ the transformation. It's thoroughly satisfying. Thx for sharing your wisdom and knowledge.
Nice job, great video, that was some serious roots on the majority of those trees.can’t wait till you complete the transformation on the pond,I know it’s gonna be a while but I’m sure will be worth the wait.beautiful land.continue doing what you do best 😎😎😎👍👍👍
👍👍👍
Mango Bango that's going to be one beautiful pond once Chris has finished his magic on it.
Especially once he expands it and makes the damn taller.
It's a dogwood tree. You can tell by it's bark! 😃
Bada bum!
You’re doing a good job on the pond perimeter, it is looking good, thank you for the update, enjoyed watching.
Great work Chris.
Looking outstanding!
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
Almost looks like a Hackberry tree
Getting all around the pond now Chris....I think its a Hackberry tree.....Stay safe and see you on the next one
Results are looking good!
The pond area is looking great 👍
Nice video Chris, the pond is looking much better.
love the pond clearing job relaxing fun. cheers buddy.
The clearing is turning out excellently great video thanks Chris
Love to see you work, smooth as silk
It kinda looks like a hackberry, here in Texas we have them and considered trash trees
awesome dozer work, love watching your videos..
I really like the sound of the trees crunching.
If it wasn’t so difficult to transport, this would be a fun and awesome place to setup the dragline.

Coming along nicely. A drone shot of a few minutes will give us a nice view thus far. Before burning and after burning as well.
Well this is quickly shaping up very nice. I also heard the word, dredging! The big bucket on the 330 will work nice.
The transformation of that pond is nothing short of amazing it is really a or going to be a pitcher for sure Chris has transformed it and not even finished yet cheers
Great work! Thumbs up! Jim
Love your work and videos working your magic 😊😊
Now you you cleaned up around that pond it look good.
Pond is looking great.
@34:17 "evedently were into our solar eclipse right now ... "
< LETSDIG18> reflection has it's own mini eclipse against the cab reflection right to left - right on cue commentary 😂❤
That is a nice looking pond now that you can see it
Agree with Hackberry. Really hard wood. Took down two of them in the back yard recently & dulled the chain several times!! Your way is faster. Looking good Chris.
👏👏👏💯💯👏👏👏
What’s up Chris🤙. Great Job looking good as always. Take care🇺🇸👌
Looks like a great spot for a large pond
Can’t wait to see a fish smack the windshield some day. 😂
Oh that's neat with the fog. Thanks for sharing.
I could watch your clearing videos for hours on end ... and I'm well retired with all the time in the world to do it too! 👍
Looks like either a Hackberry or a Elm, Elm is really brittle like that and have a kind of a oval shaped leaf that has a point on the end with a center vein and smaller veins that come off it to the outer edges of the leaf
That is a hack-berry tree. A very clean hot burning wood. Here in Oklahoma it is real common.
Yeah it's turning out really nice. Be nice spot when she get it done. Looking forward to those big burns. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
When I was younger we liked to call those warty trees as nettle trees. I guess they are more commonly called Hackberry trees.
Great job !
Nice looking job Chris
Cool video. That tree with the warts looked like a burn pile tree. Enjoyed watching ✌️ 😎
Gonna be a beautiful pond when it is dredged and shaped up
The hackberry tree makes wonderful firewood.
Chris that's looking great you can take that pond that didn't look like much and turn it into something beautiful to look at and enjoy
My guess is that there was always a pond there and at some point it was enlarged by damming up the bank on the lowest side, hence the reason it has that beauty and natural character…I’d have left more trees :-) especially the hackleberry! Just got into NC for a camping trip from MI and saw a tree that matched the wart bark. Looked it up on line and it may be a flowering dogwood.
Definitely a Hackberry. Come up to Cincinnati area if you want a bunch.
That looks a whole lot better . But those are going to be some good size fires .
This customer knows a skilled operator with a eye for perfection.
Yup that WAS a Hackberry tree. We have a lot of them here in Western Kentucky. I have taken out a buch of them from fence rows and wood lines here on the farm
Good work Chris
Looking great
I believe that's a hackberry.
Oval leaves and warty bark - Hackberry
The rough bark is a Hackberry
Thank you for the nice long video.
Job well done 👍🏻
Slow it's to see how You have Planing this Pond a new Face to give. A Interesting Idea. Thanks for this Video, and I gladden my of the next from this Work. 👌🤗
Thanks Chris!
Sure seems to fit the bill for a cottonwood. All the characteristics you mentioned match a cottonwood, including loving to grow where there is water.
Got it looking a 1000% better Chris !! I just cut down a couple of those trees myself, and I was asking myself the same thing ?? lolol... Don't know what they are either...lolol... Dredge that and expand and it will be a beautiful pond.
I ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO CHRIS 😊
like carpet - I think half of that is the fungus network intertwined and symbiotic with the tree. :) made my day!

Found myself shaking my screen to help get dirt off of rootballs, love the power of hydraulics👍
Ponds starting to look good.
Sure looking tidy around the pond bro. Some nice camp fires to come. Safe travels. Ken.
good pond video
CHRIS I TELL YOU WHAT. I HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVE THAT THAT LITTLE DOZER IS ONE OF YOUR BEST PIECE OF EQUIPMENT...IT'S GOOD TO KNOW THAT YOU LOVE IT..🎉😮
That's a knackered tree!!!
Dog wood, you can tell from its distinctive bark, boom boom, here all week.
