    Tip - Leave the nut on before you hit the bolt to free it = It will save on damaging the thread

    before tightening the screws of the new arm it‘s recommended to use a hydraulic jack underneath the brake rotor and lift the wheelhub to the neutral position, which can be determined ahead of time, while the wheel is still on, by measuring the distance of the wheelcenter to the fenderframing of the wheelhouse. Tightening in neutral will make the bearings relax most of the time when the suspension is in neutral and thus minimize wear.

      The voiceover recommended torquing the bolts up when the the wheel was on, but thats not what he did. Thank's for explaining why its important.

      @@imnotamechanic3491 ah, OK. resting the car on it's wheels before torquing the bolts is also an alternative. However often not as convenient😀

    I can highly recommend using a lashing and jacking up the wheel hub if you want to get the ball joint back into the lower arm. It pulls the shock absorber back in place and reduces the angle of the ball joint to the lower arm. Otherwise you can be busy for hours and hours, getting absolutely nowhere. It looks so simple on the video, but I just finished the job, took me 2 days fighting with the lower arm before it was back in place. Finally the lashing got it done in 10 min.

      I've just started this, and I've had to stop because I ended up with the shock pulling away from the body of the car, which pulled the driveshaft out of the gearbox and has dumped it's oil.

    • @jonathankelly9158
      @jonathankelly9158 5 лет назад

      Spot on advice, small set of spring compressors on the strut to take up the excess extension of the strut makes it easier to replace the ball joint and prevents the drive shaft from being pulled out of the gearbox .... (in my limited experience)..

    • @ferguscolman354
      @ferguscolman354 5 лет назад +1

      It is very straightforward on the R/H side as the driveshaft has an intermediate bearing which prevents the shaft from falling out of the gearbox, I learned the hard way (on the L/H side) like CableWrestler !

    • @markc6318
      @markc6318 7 лет назад +1

      just use any strong piece of steel, I used to have a 4ft pole flattened at one end makes it so much easier. The one he used for getting the ball joint off is called a ball joint slitter and you use it by aligning the shaft between the 2 prongs and hitting it with a hammer not as a lever like in the video. However after watching again I believe he uses it like that so he doesnt destroy the ball joint dust cover www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-Fork-Car-Ball-Joint-Seperator-Separator-Splitter-Tool-Tie-Rod-End-Lifter-/222404326887?hash=item33c854b5e7:g:E8cAAOSwh2xYAkly

    Are you a professional mechanic or a DIYer. Reason I ask is that you have just about damaged every thread you had to undo. Ever heard of using a softer material than you are impacting ??? also that is a ball joint splitter not a pry bar so why not learn how to use the tools. Your knowledge of what to do is accurate but if you are typical of what we pay garages £60 per hour labour for in local garages then god knows what we are training our apprentices this day and age.

    • @ferguscolman354
      @ferguscolman354 7 лет назад +3

      I am inclined to agree, as even refitting a nut to a threaded shaft provides some protection to the thread before hitting with a hammer. Otherwise, a nice video and a decent repair.

    • @markc6318
      @markc6318 7 лет назад +3

      I was about to write the exact same thing then noticed your post. It can be replaced without removing the tie rod too. If you notice before he takes the ball joint off there is a metal ball joint dust cover which im guessing is why he levered it off

Hi as seen in the video 4:36 this part has a rubber cone ring on one point and middle so as rubber covered container on other point where thick oil is stored, with time passing oil gets dry and so as rubber and get tiff(might crack brake come loose and boom)....You do maintenance in order to everything function as it should.

    These Peugeot 206, have the worst lower arm I ever seen. I am a Mechaniker and i can tell you if you are a DIYer don't start with this, cause you will end up with the drive shaft been pulled out from the gear box and the the oil from the gear box comes out. This is a very bad lower arm with too much pressure on it's bearings.

      Yes, you are correct, I had the same unhappy experience a year ago. The driveshaft design is different on the R/H side and has an intermediate bearing which prevents it from ejecting from the gearbox when separated from the stub axle.The L/H driveshaft is one-piece and can fall straight out from the gearbox when released from the hub.

    I've never seen such an aberration in all my life. Hits the end of the pinch bolt with a hammer after REMOVING the nut entirely. Then uses a short ball joint splitter as a lever to try to pull the joint shaft out the hub??? And uses no releasing fluid anywhere. Dear god. I've stopped watching at 2:37. Take my advice. Do not use this video as a guide to anything resembling a proper job.
