Letting it callous over for me, if im doing a water prop, has always led to the prop dying for me. Directly putting the cutting into water has been the best success rate i have at propping. I personally believe it has to do with the way the plant callouses over.
If you want to be cautious, dip the cut end into some cinnamon. It is a natural antimicrobial AND rooting hormone! One of my favorite things to use with my plants.
@@GoldenStarXD24 😂😂 I was freaking out too but mines been in water for almost 2 weeks now lol BUT I did start adding a few drops of hydrogen peroxide whenever I switch out the water (every 3-4 days) I heard it helps with oxygenation? 🤷🏽♀️
I always put mine in water after I cut it and never had any problems with them rooting. They actually grow so many roots in 4 to 5 days its unbelievable.
If my cutting is small enough, i sterilise the cutting before dipping in melted wax (not too hot). Ive found it auper easy since it immediatly seals off the nub drom mousture and helps prevent rot, which i struggle with being so forgetful. I love water propagations, but remembering to change the water is 😭
Second time I hear this let it dry tip, a lot of comments say it's unnecessary and they never do it. My monstera is out of control with growth and I will try both methods to see if there's a noticeable difference or rotting.
I put mine into water every single time. I’ve never experienced rot from a monster that already has Ariola roots. If it doesn’t have those types of roots, already popping out, you want to put it in dirt for sure.
What i do instead is use a moss pole and cut it in half leave it for a week or so then remove it. the moss pole is essentially a vertical pot and i can cut it without having to plant it because all the roots are already in the pole
Thank you for this! I’ve been wondering how to propagate Monstera for a long time and every time I would put it in my fish tank right away it would just rot and I couldn’t figure out why. So thank you!
THANK YOU! I was so nervous to propagate my funky monstera cause I couldn't find any info on how the mother plant would heal and grow. I ended up just doing it a few months ago and all is good but I was so worried.
I was super nervous to see what was going to happen to the mother plant the first time I chopped her too! I’m glad you went for it and that it turned out good for you!!
I call the new propagation nipples lol, because they look like it when they are little. I have a bunch of albos doing this rn, its fun watching them form whole new plants
Gurl do NOT slip. That razor is the least safe thing you could have picked to use. Please smarten up and buy yourself a safer blade to propagate your plants ❤ trust me when I say finger cuts deep ones are no joke.
Yeaaa…my fiance is a barber, that’s how I ended up with a razor blade. And my fingers did indeed learn the lesson🥴 That was my first time chopping my monstera. I used a box cutter the 2nd time. Much better choice😂
Instead of wait for the callous to form, just put some healing product on it. You can buy it and could be pretty expensive or use the traditional medicine and put some cinnamon all over the cut, blow the excess and reduce the time of drying and also avoid some bacteria and fungus
I just put my cutting in water last week and it has started rotting. Is it ok to keep it out of water now and allow it to dry for 48 hours and then put it back in water?
Use tumeric powder and leave 2-4 hours. Then it's good to put in water, i used to put directly into water after cutting and my Thai con got root rot and died, i've learnt a hard lesson. Actually, you just need a little of patience and should not skip this crucial step if you want growing plants.
From my exp. Calcifying will make your plant use more energy to produce aerated roots and try to start producing roots from harder parts of the stem...
Getting elbow leaf cutting that is not rooted in just a few hours, so nervous of what to do when it arrives. I did buy an air stone, thinking to put it in water, but if it arrives in moss, do I still need to let the sides of the notes Callis over? Also, do I need to add nutrients to the water since it doesn’t have fruits yet and only a little aerial route
I use filtered water and have organic medicine for all of my plants. When I put them directly in water, they propagate successfully. I’ve never had an issue
Thanks !! One question : Is your mother plant’s new leaf juvenile? does it affect its growth? I have a young monstera variegata albo and it just grew a full white leaf.. wondering if i should wait or cut it now, and if i cut it if it’s ok to cut more than one node without the mother plant reverting back to starting point maturity wise.
Oh my goodness, mine is just doing the same I'm going to home Depot right now to purchase perlite to clip above the nodes to start new growth and separate the plant (hopefully save what wants to live)
How long has it been in water? Sometimes can take a while for some plants, mine did. Also propagating some of my snake plant leaves took couple months, but the other ones didn’t ❤ be patient 😊
no. you do not need to let any plant that isnt a thick leaved succulent callus over, this is only for succulent leaf propagations. letting thecut dry out for so long could actually hurt the cutting a LOT.
Do not, I repeat, do not, use a double sided razor blade to take your cuttings. This is not the tool for the job. At the very least, tape the second side with a couple layers of tape. Then you can handle it safely.
It definitely was a learning lesson. Lol And my poor fingers paid the price😅 I use a box cutter now for my super thick plants that are too wide for my usual shears.
Something Ive done to skip the drying time is towel-dry the cutting and dip the end into melted wax. Has worked really well so far.
What kind of wax may I ask?
@@AlwaysJun Take any candle, light it, wait for the top to melt, and dip dip
Superglue also
cinnamon helps against bacteria
I've used paper towels.

@@meganking7589do you submerge in water straight after? Or leave it on for a while?
Nobody cares. Callus is scientifically proven to be better. Why tf do you think the plant does it?
I put always put mine in water and I’ve never had a problem
Me too, I've never had an issue, and I've been doing it for quite a long time.
@@Binnie_303That's interesting. I've propagated my monsteras 20+ times and never had any rot
Rot actually comes from lack of oxygen AND too much water. Water has oxygen so you shouldn’t have any issues
Oh thank goodness vídeo scared the hell out of me. I literally put it in water yesterday 😅

Same, i had one plant I cut into 5 lol, cut and straight into the water.
Wow i will do that
Omg! Perfect timing for my adopted, top heavy, thriving, monstera. Thank you so so so much!
You’re so welcome!!😃 I’m glad it was helpful!!

I pat the mother plant and the cutting with soil at the sliced area to expedite the drying process. Works great.
Second time I hear this let it dry tip, a lot of comments say it's unnecessary and they never do it. My monstera is out of control with growth and I will try both methods to see if there's a noticeable difference or rotting.
There's a study that showed waiting to put it in water reduces capillary action and water uptake. Plants like succulents should be callused.

You can dip the cutting into candle wax after it starts to cool off. That prevents rot as well.

Get some sharp shears!💚🌱@@thekristenkronicles
Seconded! Absolutely terrifying watching someone chop with razor blades!
Why not use a cutter instead of that blade? That's very dangerous once your fingers slip doing the procedure.
Rub a little activated carbon onto the cut section of the mother plant, it acts like an antiseptic for the cut section.
Definitely helps, I was anxious about going at it!! Thank you for making this! ❤

Hi. Thanks for info. I need help cutting down my kalanchoe. Any ideas ? Ty
It is October 14th...can I propagate a stem or do i need to wait till spring?

do you water that moss pole? asking as a newbie...it looks like one i just bought a coconut coir

How long does it take to grow a leaf (from the mother plant)?🌿
Thank you x
Thank you
nice catch!
I zip tie a small bag of soil to the root then chop after its rooted
Do you put something on the open wond or just let if dry ?
You may have just saved my plant ❤ thank you

Had problems with my 6 feet yucca plant. The top bent over. Had to cut it off.
Will it grow back again😢

Can you put beeswax on the open end of the cutting? The roots will grow from the aerial root anyway no?
With a plant that big why not air layer it before you chop it? It’ll have a near 100% chance of success for propagating.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Is the new top “bump” a new leaf or roots? Thx
I'm very confused. How did you get directly a new leaf with fenestrations? It depends by the sort of monstera?
I personally don't think it would need to callous over I have never had problems without callousing over
😊
Roots come from nodes
New leaves from the auxiliary buds
As long as you have one of each, a new plant is likely to develop
Plz tell me how to big the size of monstera adosoni broken heart leave jiant plz plzplz
My monstera isn’t growing anywhere to propagate yet and I don’t understand because my plant is so big. Can you please help
You should add captions to these videos, I know that’s not the topic but yeah
Ugh I didn’t let it dry out I went straight to water I hope I don’t loose it my first time

Yeaaa…learned my lesson with that one. Box cutter worked much better the 2nd time around.
That double sided razor is not a good idea. Well, unless you're trying to propagate your finger....
If you can’t spring for a cheap utility knife don’t bother having plants, it’s simple.
Using that razor blade like that looks very very dangerous.
It definitely was a learning lesson. Lol And my poor fingers paid the price😅 I use a box cutter now for my super thick plants that are too wide for my usual shears.
I love these plants but they always die.
Why not just use a knife 😅 i was cringing the whole cut process
Caring that much about not putting it into water but using that razor like you have disposable fingers
