    How To Propagate Monstrea Deliciosa Cuttings Easily! I tried using two different methods. Propagating monstera in water, and propagating cuttings in sphagnum moss! They both turned out great!
    I also show how to pull new babies and get them started strong with water propagation. After watching this video I hope try and propagate your monstera deliciosa too!

    Try putting one of the split leaves philodendrons outside under a tree for the Summer. Doing so will give you a much bushier/compact plant. The one I put outside looks like a shrub ....one happy plant. A little story: When I was a kid, my mother had a split leave growing on a pole in the family room. She would have to cut the top off from time to time because it would hit the ceiling. Before we moved to another state my folks gave the plant to some friends. Several years latter, when we went back to visit we found that they had removed it from the pole and attached it to their staircase. ....The damn thing grew up the staircase to the second floor and across the banister on the second floor landing. It was a bit gangly but was a site to behold.

    The water should be changed every two to three days for the reason that new water have much more oxygen for the roots. In fact, you can do an experiment where one cutting in the water without changing it and one in the water where you change it every two days, you will see much more roots on the water change and if you plan to grow it in the water permanently, the water should be changed every two to three days. You can also stick the cuttings straight into the soil, I have done it both ways, they are very easy to grow and propagate.

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  2 года назад +8

      im doing that experiment right now where i changed the water every day and it didn't root, the one i left and never changed rooted crazily, i will make a video about it. I think as long as you have enough surface area the water will dissolve oxygen back into it from the air. I still need to do more tests tho. At a certain point tho when the roots are huge I bet you need to change the water often tho cuz the natural dissolving into the water wont keep up. i gotta test this tho

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  3 года назад +2

      for smaller stuff i might use some cling wrap or if its drying out way too fast but for most things i leave the top uncovered. Usually I pour water into the cup. give it like a min, then pour out the excess water. Then i let it slowly dry over like 3-4 days ( this changes based on your environment) and when its just starting to get dry but still damp, I add water again. I do that so some air can get down in there a bit so it doesn't rot on me. This is my method for monstera and other bigger aroid stuff.

    Hello! I'm new to propagation and I have a couple questions... what are your thoughts on root hormone for cuttings? And secondly, would a really sharp, disinfected pairing knife work well? I don't want to butcher my monsterra, but I don't want to lose a finger in the process either...

    Hello I notice that the Sphagnum Moss performed far superior that the water propagation method. How do you manage the moisture level with moss. I'm really curious to try it as it did so well.- Thanks

      i put water in the cup, let it soak a bit, pour off any remaining water, then i let it dry out over the course of a few days and when the very top is getting dry i do it all over again

    Great video, but there’s no absolute need to remove the moss when repotting. It keeps promoting root growth and will continue to aid the plant for long after. Thanks for the video, great channel!

      probably, I was just worried it would hold a lot of water and cut off oxygen once under the soil

    Definitely one of the best plant guides I've found. Well filmed and easy to follow. I have trimmed my monstera, and am growing out the roots in water which is coming along well. However, the leaves are drooping a bit more everyday, and I'm not sure what I could do to 'destress' the plant. Any tips?

      is it getting good light? Mine were sitting under strong lights for 15 hours a day. also maybe check your water and makesure there isnt a huge swing in either direction with the PH value

    Great video! I just re-potted my monstera last week because it was outgrowing its pot similarly to yours, but on a smaller scale. How long have you had that monstera for it to have grown that much?

    Great to learn about spagnum moss. I tried to grow some wet sticks in a pot of wet moss that I placed outside in the sun and they started sprouting really quickly. After barely 2 months one was even ready to plant.
