Hi, I've done air layering with 100% success. I used plastic cups filled with spagnum moss. I cut the stem few days before I plant the cuttings. They are being held in place by velcro. I remove the spagnum moss from the roots but not completely. Just shake off the excess. That way I am not disturbing the roots. Than stick the new plants on some kind of pole and that's it.
Pro tip: I use any pothos cuttings and add them with my propogations to help root growth. It's helped with my peperomias and zz raven grow roots faster 🙂

My monstera is my favorite and best looking plant, despite having only a few fenestrated leaves. I’m scared, Mr Sheffield! So scared to prune it and make my hydro monstera. 😩 Please wish me Godspeed. 😉 Thanks for your great videos and advice!
Hello Mr Sheffield. I know I have hounded many times about pafcal chips as a growing medium, but give it a try. Once some roots are formed I pot it up in pafcal chips, use hydroponic nutrient solution to water it, and the f**ker just sprout inches of roots per week (I used a clear pot so I can see). Within a month the small pot is pot bound. I would love for you to try it out and do a video on it too. 🙏
When your first new Leaf emerges from your tip cutting you can remove the old one (which will never look as nice as the new ones) so your new plant will divert all of its resources to new leaves instead of trying to repair old damaged leaves. Also if your old existing leave from your tip cutting wilts and looks dehydrated you can remove half of the leaf until it can grow some new leaves and roots and mist the leaves (both sides) to take some stress off of it until it recovers from being cut (which is somewhat traumatic for a plant). With monstera as well as pretty much every other plant (that grows leaves) when taking cuttings it's always important to remember that until they grow some roots that can't take up water from wet dirt which doesn't benefit the plant so misting the leaves is the best way to keep it from drying out and always remember that plants only lose water from their leaves so reducing the leaf surface minimize the amount of water loss until it can grow roots and though it might look funny once it's got a healthy root system it will start replacing leaves very fast and you can remove the funny looking ones then. When I had a home Nursery selling plants on eBay I had misters that would come on 4 or 5 times a day but only for two or three minutes at a time and this is the way every professional Nursery operates so always follow the lead of the ones in the know (the professionals who are doing it for profit).
This is the second time I'm watching this video but not fully. I already performed the cuttings and I understood you should keep them out to dry and heal for 24 hours to prevent the area from bacteria.
another way instead of changing water in cuttings is to use a water sprayer, set to solid stream not mist, to _inject_ fresh water and air bubbles into the water.. that way it stirs it up a little and fresh oxygen gets to the roots.. I only change it when it gets really dirty but by that time I take them out in the dirt anyway.. somehow I dont get algae in pure water, only when I use perlite though, funny enough 😄
Once I beheaded an Adansonii and she started new stems from 3-4 nodes below the cut, like from all of them at once, that was fun :) every time you cut monsteras they're like: challenge accepted :D thanks for the great video as always
Informative video but maybe you should do a video on moss poles because the support you showed isn't a moss pole and definitely is not the best support if you want aerial root growth. Try watching The Sydney Plant Guy on RUclips. So informative on climbers. 🙂
Want to keep the rooting water fresh? Put an aquarium air stone in there. Keeps it oxygenated, and prevents rot. In my experience, monstera is not bothered by algae on the roots. I have one that has a thick coat of blackbeard algae on its roots for a couple years now.
I have a tall single-stem deliciosa I'd like to appear more bushy/full. I am thinking of taking a cutting off the top like you suggested, and then planting it in the pot after rooting it in water. What is your guidance for deciding if a pot is too small for a deliciosa? Mine seems pretty content in the pot it's in now (~8in?) but I worry I won't have enough room to get my fingers/tools into the soil to plant the propagated stem, without disturbing the original!!
I have a monstera plant with more than one growth, not necessarily multiple plants in a pot, it's just simply having a busy one stem with more growths, so it looks like I have more individual plants in one pot.

I don't want to make cuttings, just separate the plants (maybe put two in one pot, so I have two pots in the end). I also want to make a moss pole for them. My question is: Can I put the long aerial roots that I have directed into the soil until now into the moss of a moss pole? Or will that cause the roots to rot because the part of them that's not in the soil is used to be dry in the air instead of being wrapped in moist moss?

@@SheffieldMadePlants Thank you so much for the reply. I really like your videos and I appreciate the effort you put in to them. When you say "juvenile", do you mean it will be a little baby leaf the first one out, progressively getting bigger with each new one?
I recently bought a MD from a person. It’s quite large and she mentioned it needed a bigger pot. When transplanting it, I expected some really large roots, but found there was not much of a root ball and it had new small white roots, no large ones. I figure this is just a transplant from her original. Now after a few days, one large leaf on the top is drooping and I worry it will happen to the other 5 large stems and leaves. The soil she had it in was quite moist. Is there anything I can now do to keep it from dying? Thank you. Thank you.
@@SheffieldMadePlants she said it needed larger pot. It was so heavy, I had to do it quick, but I didn’t look too closely at the roots in the wet ball, but just saw tiny new ones. Did add perlite to soil. She said she only gave it a tall glass of water every two weeks, but as I said, the soil was very moist. She named it Jeannie (after her mother) put corks in and on top of soil (too keep away gnats) and lighted incense in the soil! The plant was very well loved, it’s so big, like 5 x4, but only has about 5-6 huge leaves. I love it so much and hope it survives. The root ball with the small white roots was about 9 inches wide and long.
My favorite plant ❤ what I find funny is that MD is one of the easiest plants to propagate but don't you dare to try on variegated 😂😂 that's where the 'real' fun begins with these guys🫣

Ugh, every video I've seen on monstera propagation focuses on the new cutting. I also want to know what happens to my original plant if when I cut off its "head". I have several big beautiful monsteras that I would like to propagate, but I'm worried what will happen to the original plants.
Anyone know the answer?
A new stem will grow and it will be juvenile so that is the drawback

Thank you so much for the reply. I really like your videos and I appreciate the effort you put in to them.
When you say "juvenile", do you mean it will be a little baby leaf the first one out, progressively getting bigger with each new one?
@@NubbersTV yes that's it. Maybe not baby but smaller
Will this kill the mother plant?
No!
❤❤❤thanks sweetie
You bet!
Some of my leaves are wrinkly am I under watering?
Yea potentially
I recently bought a MD from a person. It’s quite large and she mentioned it needed a bigger pot. When transplanting it, I expected some really large roots, but found there was not much of a root ball and it had new small white roots, no large ones. I figure this is just a transplant from her original. Now after a few days, one large leaf on the top is drooping and I worry it will happen to the other 5 large stems and leaves. The soil she had it in was quite moist. Is there anything I can now do to keep it from dying? Thank you. Thank you.
Might need a smaller pot to stop the soil remaining wet. Were the roots healthy?
Air laying is 100% successful and will only take a few weeks
What’s air laying?!!
@@lougus7076 layering* autocorrect is a bitch

My favorite plant ❤ what I find funny is that MD is one of the easiest plants to propagate but don't you dare to try on variegated 😂😂 that's where the 'real' fun begins with these guys🫣
How do you prevent the cutting from getting slimey and rotting? Every cutting of mine didn’t like water but somehow thrived on hydropeals mixed with a little soil 🥲
bacteria is growing in the water. Replace it routinely
Not sure. It happens sometimes but not often. I change the water sometimes
i recommend that you SHOULD NOT ADOPT A CAT because my cat is absolutely destroying my monstera by tearing off leaves while playing with it
Mine has never touched my monstera, but she's also a lazy chonky thing
Try putting some kind of undesirable deterrent on the leaves for a while to help them learn to stay away.
