... I canNOT believe I've never seen another plant youtuber make a "DelicioSAHH" joke before. Burst out laughing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
Thank you, finally someone in Australia talking about plants. Have subscribed to get all your tips. So many channels from America or England. We need Aussie tips for our climate. I'm in Perth WA. 🎉
No worries at all, glad I could help! Sorry that I haven’t been too active as of recent - but I’ll be back soon, watch this space ☺️🍀 thank you for watching!
I just got my monstera today and I named it Lucille Astoria. Your tips really helped me for picking out the perfect spot for her and I got to know new things, thank you💖
That's such a beautiful name! I named my Thai Constellation 'Esmeralda' 🤩 appreciate the feedback and hope you found the video useful 😊💚🌱 all the best with the care!
Thank you so much for your content. I’ve just added a new tiny baby monstera deliciosa to my family and your videos have been great for me to ensure I treat her right.
@@simpleplanty she IS!! 😁 - I named her after my Mum. Omg, I’ve come such a long way as a plant parent since I wrote this comment, I can’t believe it. I now have 5 large form Monstera deliciousa, propagated from 1 cutting I was given. And I now have around 150 house plants. Your video helped set me on my journey to being a successful plant Mum, so thank you so much 🙏🏼💚
@@RareRootsOfJoyMelbourne aww that’s so sweet you named it after Mum! After all, the monstera deliciosa is the MOTHER of all plants 😂 that is sooo amazing, I love hearing stories of how far plant parents have come. 150 plant children must keep you EXTREMELY BUSY! I admit that I don’t even have as close to 100 myself - so here’s me admiring!!! What’s your favourite(s)!?
This is my first day with my plant and I'm glad I found your channel. I watered it because it traveled from Jamaica to southern US. I left the excess water in the tray until I saw your video... don't want to start bad habits and even though the soil looked dark I didn't put my finger in to check the moisture. It was packed with a small roll of cotton and then wrapped in cling film. I don't know why I thought I should feed it other than me having dinner at the time and I thought maybe it was in need. Silly. Well, back to your instructions now... I'll get it right now. Thank you!
How exciting Cassandra! You've already taken the first step and doing just a bit of research on how to best take care of your plant, so you're well on your way for success! Definitely tip out that excess water when you can, because the water eventually absorbs back into the soil (leads to overwatering) and then potentially a decline/root rot. Not to worry too much, once you know the basic concepts, it's really easy and all you really have to do is keep them happy by watering them (granted it has some adequate light and every now and then, a feed of liquid fertiliser during spring/summer!). Also, once you can gauge at how much water it takes to well to the bottom, you don't have to pour so much next time :P hope that helps!
Hi Alessandra! Thanks so much for watching and binging - I started this channel in hopes to help other plant parents out there so hopefully it helps you ☺️ I really appreciate feedback like this as its really encouraging - thanks again and have a wonderful rest of week!
Thanks so much for your support - definitely a lazy plant parent myself and want maximum results for minimal effort 😂 hope your plants are doing well! As long as you have your watering technique down pat and in a good position, you should be relatively set 🙂
Thanks so much for your advice 😃. I've just inherited one of these plants which is looking yellow and light green. I found water had built up in the bottom of the ceramic pot it's in so I emptied it. Now hopefully it will grow in health. I also gave it some seasol.
Hi Elisha 👋 glad I could help! If it’s convenient to tip out the excess water, the better. You mentioned it was a ceramic pot which generally has good drainage properties too which is great! Thanks for watching!
Your videos are great. I watched a few prior to yours and your content is thorough and easy to follow. I appreciate the help because I ADORE my new plant and I'd rather not kill it! 😜
Thankyou so so much, this feedback is great! When I started getting into plants, I struggled to find some clear and concise content so I wanted to help fill that void, so it's really nice to hear your feedback! No worries, the monstera deliciosa basically thrives on neglect - you'll be fine 😊🌱
Thank you so much for the tips! It would be amazing if you could give some tips on repotting the monstera? How to identify when, which pot size to choose, what season is optimal etc. that would be amazing :)
Hi Rachel! Thanks for watching, so glad it helped! As a rough guide for repotting, you could use a pot that is roughly the same circumference as your largest leaf - repotting during spring/summer is the best when the plant is its strongest. I am actually overdue to repot mine too, so I'll put it on the list of videos to eventually make too! Thanks for the suggestion 😊🌱
Hi Keke! Thankyou so much, these comments really make my day. I absolutely loved Cape Town when I visited! Would love to go back. Sending love back from Australia 😊🌱
@@kekemotsepe5002 my friends are there right now and their food safari is looking absolutely delicious. Seriously one of the greatest places I have ever visited - I still look at photos til this day!!!
@@ClaireMurray1 Hi Claire - by tubes, I think you’re referring to the ‘aerial roots’ - perfectly normally, as in nature they grow these to attach to the climb onto surfaces and up canopies! They are a bit of an eyesore, I know! I tend to just tuck them back into the pot once they are long enough ☺️
Grea detailed video very well explaining each step. I recently placed a wooden round poll for them to dance around and tied it. I have two of them one the leaves looks kind of sad I wonder if is transplant shock. The other one doesn’t, same method.
Sounds great that you've staked your plant - adding the pole shouldn't give it transplant shock, unless you pulled the plant out and added it in? If it's transplant shock, should bounce back pretty soon 😊🌱
Thank you very much for your very informative video. A week ago I got a small Monserat plant. However, after I watered it, many of the leaves turned yellow. What can I do to save this plant? Please help with your useful advice. Thank you.
New to me . As a new leaf shoots out I try to weave it to grow up. Snuggling the leaves together is my focus without trying to bind them to each other. Hi again from a few months ago. 🙋♀️💗
Hi again, Jennie and welcome back! I've not been able to locate your previous comment - but snuggling them up seems perfectly fine. What are you using to snuggle them together with? 😊🌱
@@simpleplanty I have it staked on a long piece of driftwood. If one leaf starts drooping I prop it behind a bigger leaf. So far that's working but I have rubber coated wire for when I need to tie it.
Aloha- I’m brand new here.🤙🏽 My question is about lighting. My Monstera is growing happily in the indirect light inside by my lanai sliding glass, which when open gives good air circulation for it. But it tends to grow out not up. I recently bought ,but haven’t hung, a grow light. How do you feel about over head grow lights for my baby? Not really a baby plant! I was hoping that light from above would encourage it to stretch upward. One last thing, can you ever give to much light, as in length of time?? Lights out at bedtime! 10:56 Thank you for your input!❤️
Aloha right back at you! In general, plant growth directions tend to be impacted by where the source is located (and very noticeable in monsteras!). However, if you're really wanting to encourage it to grow upwards, I would highly recommend staking it in addition. You could stake it using a pole / trellis (depending on preference). I did make another video on my channel on whether you should use a stake, pole or trellis in case you wanted to check that out 😊 Hope that helps!
Hi Ashish - your comment really means a lot to me 🙊 thanks so much mate! I'll be back to the groove of making videos soon - really appreciate the support! 😊🌱

What I feared I needed and don‘t have yet, is something to climb. I simply dislike the look of moss poles. However your solution with the trellis looks great 😍 thank you so much for that tip ☺️ I will certainly buy one for myself!
No worries, Lauri! Hope you find a nice trellis to purchase - make sure it's strong, they'll topple over eventually in the long run if it's not sturdy!
Nice one! I've been rather lazy these days and just left my monstera permanently facing the light source 🤣 but I do rotate my ficus' from time to time as the stems bend in the lights direction, so that the other leaves can get more sun!
I just read today that these plants do not like pot rotations bc their stems are too stiff and woody. So they begin to get weird twists and warps in them. And it might encourage them to produce immature size leaves so theyre getting more photosynthesis in that new direction.
Hi. This is the first time I've watched your videos but really enoyed it. It's full of tips and easy to understand. So I live in Saudi Arabia. And we bought a beautiful monstera some months ago. We have watered it once the top inches were dry. We put in shower to water and drained off the excess. We kept in a cool room that runs on AC at 20-25°C room temp (extreme hot summers here) then we shifted it to another room without AC around 30°-35°c. The plant didnt do well, leaves fell, and we discovered after it's death that it was a root rot. We very much want to have one again but super afraid and anxious now. Need some honest advice if the plant can thrive in our country and climate? We are going towards autumn and winters now.
Nice to meet you and thanks for watching my videos! I definitely think your plant is capable (and if anything, will thrive in an environment such as the one you have described!) From your story, root rot is generally attributed to excess watering - I do know that you had mentioned you drained off the excess in the shower, however, if your soil/substrate is quite dense and compact, if you are pumping too much water into the soil, it tends to just absorb and over time ends up suffocating the roots. I generally repot my plants and add substances such as perlite/charcoal/vermiculite to form spaces around the substrate, to allow the roots to breathe. You will notice that your substrate will dry out a lot faster in your climate, but it just means you will need to get that watering can a little more frequently. Hope that helps ☺️
PLEASE, I don't know where all these nasty little gnats have cone from but how do I get rid of them permanently? I've changed the soil and washed the pots with hot soapy water. You're AMAZING. Thank you for ALL your excellent advice💖.
Hi Nona! I totally understand your pain - the only thing you need to is a product called ‘tanlin drops’ - I literally made a video about 10 different methods on how you can get rid of them here: ruclips.net/video/CJH0I9jCfTc/видео.html (but have saved you the trouble of watching if you don’t have time!) It costed me about 40-50 AUD to purchase, but I’ve never had a gnat problem again! Hope that helps ☺️
Hi! Sorry for the delayed reply (took me awhile to crawl through pages of product 😂) - the one I use is from my local hardware store here: www.bunnings.com.au/whites-80cm-green-plant-trainer-trellis_p3321785 However, I don’t actually reccommend this one simply because it wasn’t a good long term solution as my plant outgrew it fairly quickly. I loved that it was a really cheap viable temporary solution though - it’s definitely time for me to upgrade. I’ll probably look at some taller and sturdier wooden lattices as my next option! Hope that helps 🤗
Thanks so much! These are the soft rubber ties that I use (a really great price for them at around $2-3: www.bunnings.com.au/saxon-5m-soft-twist-tie_p0054819). Another alternative is to use plant velcro! The trellis I use is this one www.bunnings.com.au/whites-80cm-green-plant-trainer-trellis_p3321785 however, it's just a cheap temporary solution, as I need to get a bigger and sturdier one!). Hope that all helps ☺️🌱
Thanks so much - this is super helpful! My monstera has two main shoots which are growing in completely opposite directions... should I separate them in different pots please?
No worries, super glad I could help! Is there a reason why you want to seperate them, ie make two different plants? It depends on whether it has two different root systems embedded in the soil - if it’s two shoots from one main branch, then I would not recommend it (as it is just growing from one root system), but if you inspect it carefully and can see that it’s got it’s own root system, then should be safe to do so! Hope that makes sense ☺️
@@simpleplanty 2 days ago I was cleaning the weeds around them to take a good look at the nearby new leaves my Macrozamia developed, and I noticed they too had new growth, but not only leaves, they're flowering. Very very beautiful ''flowers''. It's like a huge lily with the cone inside in the middle.
@@TropicalGardeningCyprus I must admit, I had to google 'Macrozamia' and they're stunning! Your garden must be AMAZING! Sucks that we can't upload photos on here, would love to see!
@@simpleplanty not too amazing as most of my "rares" are fairly young (due to overcostly adult plants, i buy baby-sizes) and need another decade to truly shine.
Hi Halwa! I use a mix of orchid mix, perlite and charcoal - however, I’ve just bought a premix aroid mix which also contains orchid bark, charcoal, coco coir and perlite in the bag, which I’m excited to use! Hope that helps ☺️
I love this plant! I named mine Esmeralda because she seems so exotic to me, so I thought she deserved an exotic name. She loves sitting in front of our large South facing window with indirect light. I like turning her around to face into the room and watch how she pulls all her leaves back toward the window within a few days. I’m not sure how I would incorporate a trellis in her location 🤔. Thanks for the helpful video!
Hi Lisa! Thanks for sharing - I love the name Esmeralda (coincidentally it's the name of one of the characters I play on a game 🤣 - very exotic!) If you normally have her facing your window, means the trellis would normally be facing you with the leaves turned to the window (not the best view for you, but a great one for your plant!). Hope that helps 😊🌱
@@Coolcucumber905 that's it! I've decided to name my Monstera Thai Constellation 'Esmeralda' as she hadn't received a name yet! That makes us 3! It's so befitting since it's a Constellation type 🤩
Hello! Regarding the roots, I tend to leave them alone ☺️ if they’re getting a little unruly, I try to tuck them into the pot, so they don’t look so messy. However, you can cut them off without causing damage to your plant if you wish - but I just want to ensure there’s absolutely no stunt in growth! Hope that helps ☺️🍀
My plant has very long roots or tendrils outside the pot, does it need reporting wich I am about to do,do I plant the ,tendrils or leave them out. Very healthy large plant.
Hi Val! Nice to e-meet you! Sounds great that it’s a very healthy large plant. My personal preference is to leave them and repot the aerial roots back into the main pot - however, I do know that it won’t do damage to the plant, should you wish to prune them for aesthetic reasons. Totally your preference but I’d lean towards keeping them, if I were you ☺️🍀
Mine is getting brown leaves! Ugh there are draining holes but its a pot within a pot. The soil is odd. Seems lofty and retains moist. Cant tell when to water it
Hey! Sounds like the soil retains too much moisture - I usually repot my plants from the nursery soil and add extra things into the substrate such as perlite to give the roots more space to breathe. You could try that - hope it helps 😊🌱
Thankyou so much! Definitely rewarding to see them grow - I certainly replanted into a larger sized pot, as a general rule I go for about 1-2 sizes up; monsteras grow pretty rapidly so you’re better off going the 2nd size up from your current pot - just make sure you have enough space in your home for it to grow 😂 mine has gotten to the point where I’ve gotten one of the biggest size growers pot you can get (ie 30mm circumference), but has happily stayed in the same pot for over a year now ☺️ hopefully that helps! Note; you don’t want to go way too large at the beginning, because too much space could cause overwatering which will present itself problems. All the best ☺️
Thanks for the tips. And I'm amazed how your plant has grown in just a year! I seem doing okay with my care routine (except for regular wiping the leaves), but recently a big old leaf started getting light green/yellow :( what can I do to help my plant to thrive?
No worries, I'm glad I could help! Was it a lower leaf? This sounds pretty normal and part of the leaf lifecycle - older leaves will yellow and die off and energy will be directed to the new leaves, so not to worry! Sounds like you are doing the right thing ☺️🌱
I used Google Translate to Italian for the following message: Nessun problema, grazie per aver guardato! Buona fortuna! -- What I wrote in Google Translate in English: No worries - thankyou for watching! Sounds fungal - you will definitely need to treat it as soon as possible. I usually cut off the impacted leaves, as fungal infections can spread to your other leaves and then give it a good wipe down with a fungicide. Otherwise, I just use neem oil to wipe down the leaves and continually treat for the next couple of days. Make sure you give it ventilation, as that's how it usually starts. Good luck!
No worries - luckily for you and unluckily for me, I've basically been through life cycles of a myriad of pests 😅😅😅 let me know if you ever encounter a certain type and I'll help where I can!
I have those fungus gnats and want v to get rid of them now that we are going into winter. It's my 1st year with my beautiful Monstera and I do not want an infestation... Lol! Any thoughts?

Hi Amy, nice to meet you! Do you notice the leaves droop from time to time or they are permanently droppy? Usually the slits will start growing over time, granted that the monstera is growing happily - they start growing what is called ‘fenestration’! ☺️🍀
Absolutely! I generally prune them and give the stalks to friends (so it's a win-win situation!). They will normally grow back from the growth point, but if you are pruning to give it away to friends for propogations, you'll just need to ensure that you chop them correctly beneath the 'node' to ensure that the roots can grow out from there and establish a new plant. Hope that helps!
Loved your presentation ❤ I am having a Monstera Delicosa since past four months. It looks quite healthy. But has come up with only one leaf so far. Is that ok? ( now it has six leaves, four big, two smaller)
Thanks so much for watching! I hope that it helped ☺️ if it appears to be quite healthy, not to worry too much if it has only had 1 new leaf in awhile. Do you use any liquid fertiliser in your waterings and what season were you in? Thanks again ☺️
Hi! Thanks for your content! I was wondering if I could repot my monstera like twice a year? It's still a baby now but as it grows fast... But I don't want to put it in a too big pot directly
Hi! No worries and thanks for watching! Twice a year is fine, if it's growing at such a rapid rate! I generally wait a bit until it's root bound and then upsize, but I've also been a little tardy lately 🙊 hope that helps!
No worries at all! They prefer a well draining soil - so usually I will add perlite, orchid bark a bit of charcoal to my potting mix to increase the spaces between the soil, in order for the roots to breathe. This is beneficial on many fronts and prevents you from ‘overwatering’ the plant. Hope that helps! 😊
Also forgot to mention - the ingredients I listed aren’t a ‘must’ - some people use vermiculite and other spacers, and it’s based on preference. I do perlite, just because it’s so readily available at my local hardware store ☺️
What about those sticks growing out of the stems of the plant? Do we have to cut them off.. not even sure what they are called.. they look like roots growing on top of the soil
Hiya! I think what you may be referring to are aerial roots - I tend to leave them alone and just tuck them back into the top part of the soil when they get too unruly, although I have seen a lot of success with people cutting them down because they don’t like the look of it as they can get pretty messy. I rather leave it be to ensure I’m not stunting the growth - but again, no harm. Hope that helps! ☺️
Hey hey! I am currently using a mix of a bunch of products that I’ve bought from my local hardware store. It’s a blend of orchid mix, indoor potting mix with perlite and charcoal added. I’ve actually just purchased another brand by the Plant Runner that is called ‘Aroid Mix’ that contains a blend of orchid bark, perlite, coco peat, charcoal and compost which looks like an amazing mix for my future repot (but it’s basically the same as doing it myself but with a premium price tag 😂). In general, adding some drainage into your mixes is highly recommended for aroids such as the monstera ☺️ hopefully that helps!
Oh and also, I wouldn’t say one is ‘better’ than the other and it’s by matter of preference; terracotta pots tend to dry out faster (essentially better drainage) which means you’ll generally have to be watering more frequently so your plant babies aren’t so thirsty - as for plastic pots, I use these for most if not all of my plants (just from an ease and aesthetic purpose). Hope that makes sense!
This is the one from the video: www.bunnings.com.au/jack-80cm-green-plant-trainer-trellis_p3321785 Just note, it was just a cheap temporary solution, as over time, it will get a little to heavy for it! I’m still overdue to change it to a more sturdy one, soon! Hope that helps ☺️
Great tip, Russ! I used to do that too (when my monstera was able to fit through my doors) - but unfortunately she's so large now she can barely fit through! 🤣
Hi James! Love your channel and sooo thankful! I have asked you a question before and got an answer so I figured I would again. I have a couple very large monsteras and they are getting very leggy. 1. how do you prune your monstera to get multiple close together nodes on each stem to promote a fuller plant? Is this done by cutting above the node or below? 2. If your monstera is not drinking water because it needs a repot, is pushing out smaller leaves, and is getting slightly yellow around the edges of the new growth, does this mean root rot? HELP on all questions!
Hi Megan! I actually wrote you a really lengthy and detailed reply but RUclips accidentally closed my box (darn it!). Anyway, I'll be concise this time, but basically if you have enough space at your place to move it towards a place that has more light, that would really help and assist with 'leggy growth'. I generally propagate and then replant them in the same base to achieve a more 'fuller' looking plant!
As for the second question - how often are you watering it? Are you allowing the soil to mostly dry out before you water it next? Monitor how often you're watering it (as root rot is generally from overwatering - and even in some cases, underwatering). If it's still pushing out leaves, that's a good sign, so you still have chance to salvage, not to worry!
@@antheech8853 hey there! I assume you mean your aerial roots? I generally leave mine and just tuck them back into the top of the soil of the pot (and totally get what you mean by them going crazy and unruly) - you definitely could trim some without causing major damage to your plant but I prefer to leave them (and if anything, some tend to even employ methods such as aerial layering to promote root growth to support overall growth of the plant). Hope that helps! 🍀
Hi very nice informative video, like u mentioned in the video in my monestera plant pot some mushrooms are growing so what is the reason is it bad for plant?
Hi Prasanna - in fact, it means your soil is nutrient rich! I usually put on a pair of gloves and remove those mushrooms. But definitely a good sign 😊🌱
Hello! Can you help me with my monstera! She is having some dry browning all over her. She has dots of drown there and there and some at the tips. I recently got her as a valentines gift and wanted to see what I could do to stop/ remove the browning leafs. Also I repotted her (roots were healthy + the soil was really wet) and wiped off her leaves when I got her. Could you please give me some tips? 😊 Maybe I could send you a picture. 🪴
Hi Abigail! What a lovely valentines gift and I’m sure you’re very keen to nurse it back to too top shape! Sounds like it’s on the road to recovery if you have repot due to overly wet soil, since monsteras are aroids and love a chunky airy mix! Do you have any preventative pest measure such as eco/neem oil? In case the dots are attributed to fungus, a good measure is just a routine wipe every now and to prevent bacterial spread. Perhaps you can send me a picture at hi.simpleplantation@gmail.com / I don’t often check my email but I’ll try to look out for it!
Hi Abigail - I’ve seen the photos and does look attributed to fungus. It’s better to prune back the affected leaves (not to worry, they’ll grow back and if anything more energy will be dispersed for it to grow new ones!). Try getting some neem oil to then wipe down the plant after you’ve trimmed back the affected leaves (to prevent further spread) and you may want to just check on whether you get a little bit of aeration in the plants spot from time to time, as it can attribute to bacteria build up. Hope that helps!
Hello @Simple Plantation, my monstera has tiny spots of rust fungus. Any care tips other than cutting off the leaves, as it's still young and only have 5 leaves.
Hi Joey! Rust fungus can spread, so it is moreso recommended to cut off the infected leaves and then to wipe the rest down with an insecticide - you could do a wipe down of Neem oil and water, as well. Hopefully it's not too many leaves - they will grow back! Hope that helps 😊🌱
@@simpleplanty Thanks. I was hoping not to cut the leaves off. But nevertheless, to save all other leaves, 1 must go. Weird is the fungus grows beneath the leaves.
@@joeychong3083 hey Joey! 1 leaf isn't too bad! If anything, cutting it off will redirect it's energy to new growth, so you'll get more leaves in no time 😊🌱
Thanks for this cause we recently bought 2 and we are already killing them.😔 (A few leaves are burnt. Thank goodness they're resilient plants so fingers crossed). Not sure if they are Deliciosa or not but we'll assume it doesn't matter. Thanks a mill!
No worries at all! They’re real hardy plants, so Kim sure you will be fine! I’ve burnt a couple of plants before, you could potentially prune the affected leaves and that will leave room for them to grow some new ones ☺️ all the best and thankyou for watching!
you would definitely need a trellis or stake to help you manage the stems/vines/leaves better - if it's quite a mature plant, I do understand it could be rather difficult to introduce one - but better late than never! You would just need to purchase one and then get into it and find a good anchor point. You got this 💪
Hey Jeremy! Absolutely! If the roots end up finding their way into the moss (and unfortunately in some cases they unluckily don’t), they will grow very happily in the moss. Have you tried liquid fertiliser in your waterings? They do have some slow periods of growth and seasons do change, so not to worry! You got this 💪
I wanted to know once I water my monstera and it drains into the plastic drainer under the pot. Any suggestions of how I can drain the water that's left over without lifting my heavy pots up every time I water? My plants are big and the pots are heavy. I don't want them to dry rot but these pots are too heavy to lift and drain at every watering.
That’s a fantastic question! I wanted to cover this exact topic in another video but just haven’t had time! Basically I have a watering can that is semi transparent that I’m able to gauge how much volume there is in it - when I’m trying to figure out how much water a particular plant needs in order for the water to drain to the bottom, I’ll usually take a mental note of it through observation and then reduce the amount each time until I have a small amount well up on the plastic drainer. My monstera for example, is quite large so at the beginning I measured 2L (then that was way too much water that overflowed), reduced by 200ml each time until I reached about 1.4L which was perfect. Hope that helps!
Hi Nobat! Thankyou for watching - I used to live in Singapore (and would love to one day, live there again!) Weather is great for plants - so hope you are reaping the benefits. Take care 😊🌱
I got a 40 year old monstera it has a trunk. I do not want to kill it. It has a lot of roots out on the pot. We are transplanting it do we cover all roots?
40 years is extremely impressive - I’m in awe 🥺 in terms of roots outside of the pot, if you’re referring to the aerial roots, not to worry - they’re super resilient if you’re transporting this somewhere! Of course, a little care is preferred but if it’s the aerial roots outside the pot then no worries at all, they will even survive and be fine if they were cut down! Hope that helps - are you moving this somewhere?
I may have a different variety but mine sends aerial roots all over the place. What do I do with these roots? They don't look like they will wrap around a trellis or support.
Hi Rocky - sorry for the late reply, I somehow missed this! I usually tuck my aerial roots back into the base of my pot (and sometimes even try to dig them into the upper layer of the soil, so they plant themselves in). Hopefully that helps you! 😊
absolutely! I actually made a video on the types of stakes if you wanted to check that out: ruclips.net/video/kwAxVn0a3AQ/видео.html - but the short answer is, it will absolutely help!

Never say sorry! I love hearing from you and everyone. Reach out anytime! Especially love hearing stories like this 😂 how on earth did you possibly order 5 vs 2 is what I wanna know! I tend to purchase mine moreso in person because I love to inspect them (so an accidental order like this online never happens 😂). Comments and feedback like this really make my day - I can't wait to get back into the groove of uploading some useful content, I've got some exciting stuff planned which I need to find the time to start filming! Thankyou again 😊
@@simpleplanty Thank you so much for your kind words! What happened is that I had ordered 1 Monstera deliciosa from an online seller, and she ships 3 babies with each purchase. She has great seller ratings but the shipping was confusing because it takes almost a month for them to ship. So I was annoyed since its getting to be fall, and cooler weather. I ordered 3 baby monstera deliciosa's from another seller who has youtube vids and a great reputation. So the first seller contacted me, and we got the shipping straightened out, and she said for my trouble she would send some extras (LOL). So I ended up with 8 monstera deliciosa's from both sellers shipped perfectly, and beautifully. The reason I order plants online is that I'm kind of a introvert, especially since Covid, and I don't drive, and have my bicycle. I've never been in a car accident in my life, so a few years ago after I paid off my car, I donated it to make a wish foundation. I figured eventually my number would be up and I would be in an accident. I'm kind of supersticious that way. Also, to be honest if I went to a plant store in person, I would overspend and bring way too many plants home. I'm suppose to be getting my 2nd baby Thai next week, and I won't get any more plants until spring. If you do some more filming, I will very much enjoy watching. I would love to see how big your plants are now in your place too! You are fun, and when you're doing your videos and make a mistake, you make funny jokes about it lol. Take care thank you for listening to my sillyness.
@@StormyAfterDark omg you're really going to have a forest in your place! Knowing a little bit about your lighting situation, I guess it is probably ideal you get some grow lights going - otherwise you're going to have very leggy plants 😂 My Deliciosa is a little leggy because she's the further most away from my balcony door where the sun hits. I don't mind too much because I don't have enough space to move her (unless I decide to leave her outside!). No issue with purchasing plants online; I've seen plant packages arrive where the seller has put a lot of care and effort into it, so you may possibly even get plants that are even better condition than in the nursery! Perhaps you can propogate them later or gift them to friends 😚 That is so kind and noble of you to donate to make a wish foundation (my heart melted!). I can't wait for your Thai to grow (even more so because each time a new leaf emerges, I swear it is the most exciting thing that I wake up to for a week as the lead unfurls!). Thankyou so much for your support on the videos - I really want to make sure I film and make some useful and entertaining videos; quality over quantity hehe 😊
Okay, i need help! There is only one window in my room, and that's a skylight facing north... I definitely want a Monstera, but I don't know where to put it. Also, there is an aquarium in the room, does that also affect where the plant should be?
Hey crazygirl - great username by the way 😂 no worries, monsteras are pretty vigilant and hardy, I definitely think you could make space for it even if there's only one window in your room. Could you position it closer to the window possibly? Let me know! 😊
Hi Vanessa, as a preventive / proactive measure I usually add neem oil to my watering mixture. If you're actively fighting certain types, it will depend on the pest but I use vitality plus, eco oil and white oil 😊🌱
Thank you so much for this concise video. I've had my monstera for 6months now. My main challenge is the growth and how to guide it. I know what you mean when you say it can grow in all kinds of directions. I love the way yours is not tamed by a moss stick. However I do not see the trellis you mentioned in the video. Would you please elaborate on that?
Hey Bharathi - I have the trellis planted in my pot and my monstera guides itself up the trellis (and I affix some plant ties to keep it in place). Hope that helps ☺️🌱
@@simpleplanty Hi yes, I do this monthly and it works well. And believe it or not, milk has powdery mildew repellant properties in the enzimes, so keeps them healthy too. Full fat cows milk diluted with water 50/50. Now I guarantee you`ll be googling that right now 😉

Can I use Soil mix for my Succulents for Monstera? Please guide,I paid generously for its Sapling, besides I live in a Tropical Country ,please help with some Tips ,am new to this Plant
Hi Truth - in actual fact I use a large portion of succulent mix due to its well draining and porous nature, and add some general indoor potting mix/orchid mix with perlite and charcoal to give it some additional benefits. Not absolutely necessary for perlite and charcoal but maybe you could use your succulent mix and then mix it with some premixed indoor potting mix for ease. Hope that helps!
Hi Terry - generally speaking, you would think they do better outdoors since they originated outside (but also depends on what your normal weather / climate is on where you're residing). If you're talking about aerial roots, they would grow more in a substrate, so direct answer to your question is if you're wanting to tuck them underground in the pot, that would be good. Hope that answers your question 😊🌱
ive bought a very tiny monstera about 5cm tall that looked like a miniature monstera with very small leafs. it grows fast but it keeps it small size, I mean the leafs are as big as half of my hand. will it grow as big as yours or is it a species of monstera that stays small? Also its trunk is now 10cm tall and it has 10 leafs now, does the parts of the trunk keep expanding as it grows or do i have to do something?
It sounds like you have a monstera adansonii (is this what your plant looks like: www.google.com/search?sca_esv=566330112&rlz=1CDGOYI_enAU1045AU1045&hl=en-GB&sxsrf=AM9HkKlUf9ChVRlNVhL-mG0lXXe5uT-AqA:1695061488141&q=monstera+adansonii&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi12f2O5LSBAxVDON4KHU25D7kQ0pQJegQIChAB&biw=430&bih=745&dpr=3 ?) as it is a smaller and different species, it wont grow as tall and big as a regular monstera. I do recommend that you get it a stake for it to climb, so it can continue to grow nicely and more organised ☺️ hope that helps!
@@simpleplanty i think Its an Rhaphidophora tetrasperma, do you think the Parts of the stem will grow longer over time, nos it seems pretty stacked and short between the leafs? I have attached it to a Stick
@@Nickname-ds3ft ah yes! Now that you mention it - sounds more likely! I’ve used this cool feature from google lately where I snap a pic and upload it, and it easily identifies whatever I’ve photographed. Should try it! Regarding the stems, generally it will form lengthy spaces between each node, so having it on a stick for now sounds good. May need to eventually replace it as it grows longer ☺️
Hello! What season are you currently in? I have had some great success with a brand from the plant runner and also powerfeed - just look out for ones that have ‘NPK’ in them, which stands for nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ☺️ your plant will love you for it 🍀 hope that helps!
Wow I had my monstera for years and it never grew that much, now I’ve moved it to a sun facing windows and is thriving, would you recommend medium light to is better because the plant with grow in order to reach it better?

Hope that helps
Hello. I loved your video, so informative. I bought mine back in August and it seems to be thriving quite well by a window in my living room that gets light coming in. I tend to rotate the plant once a week so all sides get some sun. There is a air vent on my floor not too far from the plant. I live in the midwest and right now it is starting to cool down. It has been sitting in the same location since I got her and it has had central air ( cold air ) come through the vent and now with it cooling down there will be heat coming through the vent soon. Will that phase it? Also, I am concerned that I do not know how to properly water this plant or any other ones. If the pot has holes in it for drainage am I supposed to give it a good drink when the soil is completely dry and then once watering keep watering until I see the tray on the bottom fill with water? That is my biggest fear is over watering or under watering. I do not have alot of option of where to place my plant so it is by the window on the floor that I mentioned. Thank you.
Hello! No worries, I'm glad to help! Sounds like you're doing all the right things - rotating it once a week, etc! How far is the vent from the plant and does it get direct draught? Monstera's are generally not too fussy but when you do have extended periods of cold/hot direct air blowing onto the leaves, there will be some impact. If it's just closeby and not in direct contact, I wouldn't be too concerned! That's absolutely right regarding the watering - you would keep watering until you see water drain through the holes at the bottom and making sure you're tipping all your excess out. One more tip here; I find that the plants that I purchase here don't come with the best soil - often too compact and when you water them, they can get prone to overwatering easily, because the soil doesn't have enough drainage. I usually repot my plants into new potting mix and add a few extra ingredients such as perlite/charcoal, etc. which increase the spaces in the soil, so I've never worried about overwatering due to the drainage. But no worries, repotting isn't an absolute must if you just acquired your plant 😊 I really hope that helped you! 🌱🌱🌱
how exciting! welcome to the wonderful world of monstera's! I alternate between 2 different products called 'the plant runner' (theplantrunner.com/products/indoor-plant-food?variant=13833384919082) and 'powerfeed' (www.bunnings.com.au/powerfeed-1-25l-ready-to-use-indoor-and-potted-plants-plant-food_p0088993?). Generally those that have 'NPK' which stands for N (Nitrogen), P (Phosphorus), and K (Potassium) will do you well! hope that helps ☺

My question is about lighting.
Thank you for your input!❤️
Aloha right back at you!
In general, plant growth directions tend to be impacted by where the source is located (and very noticeable in monsteras!). However, if you're really wanting to encourage it to grow upwards, I would highly recommend staking it in addition. You could stake it using a pole / trellis (depending on preference). I did make another video on my channel on whether you should use a stake, pole or trellis in case you wanted to check that out 😊 Hope that helps!

Ayee I like how flexed that fancy monstera ..
🤣 thank you so much! not as fancy as an albo, though!
Rotating it towards the light source when it starts to stretch makes grow more evenly over all. I rotate everytime I water.

Hi brother I did everything for you to support Bcs you illustrated so well
Hey mate - really appreciate your comment and the supportive words! Thankyou and hope you're having a wonderful week! 😊
Also- another tip is that I would avoid moving your plant around too often. Once you find a suitable spot, keep it there!
Thank you. ❤

However, I don’t actually reccommend this one simply because it wasn’t a good long term solution as my plant outgrew it fairly quickly. I loved that it was a really cheap viable temporary solution though - it’s definitely time for me to upgrade. I’ll probably look at some taller and sturdier wooden lattices as my next option! Hope that helps 🤗

Hello! What do I do with the big air roots coming out of the pot, do I cut them?

Hi Sidahmed! Thankyou for your message, so glad it helped 😊🌱
Totally your preference but I’d lean towards keeping them, if I were you ☺️🍀
Excellent video and nice tips
Thankyou Rose, really appreciate the feedback 😊🌱
Mine is getting brown leaves! Ugh there are draining holes but its a pot within a pot. The soil is odd. Seems lofty and retains moist. Cant tell when to water it
Hey! Sounds like the soil retains too much moisture - I usually repot my plants from the nursery soil and add extra things into the substrate such as perlite to give the roots more space to breathe. You could try that - hope it helps 😊🌱

Your Monstera is beautiful! From June 292 to March 2021, did you replant it into a larger sized pot? If so how much larger? Thanks in advance
@@simpleplanty thanks for the prompt reply.
It is actually a big leaf on top... but let's see, really hope the new ones will appear as well soon.
@@justV23 ah if it's the top leaf, sounds like there may be something wrong. Is it spreading to other leaves? How are they doing?
Grazie mille! Cosa fare in caso di macchie scure con profilo giallo al centro delle foglie (credo attacco fungino)? Grazie mille
I used Google Translate to Italian for the following message:
Nessun problema, grazie per aver guardato! Sembra fungino: dovrai sicuramente trattarlo il prima possibile. Di solito taglio le foglie colpite, poiché le infezioni fungine possono diffondersi alle altre foglie e poi le pulisco bene con un fungicida. Altrimenti, uso solo olio di neem per pulire le foglie e trattare continuamente per i prossimi due giorni. Assicurati di dargli ventilazione, poiché è così che di solito inizia. Buona fortuna!
--
What I wrote in Google Translate in English:
No worries - thankyou for watching! Good luck!

Hi, I have noticed that some of the leaves on my Monstera droop, is something wrong? And why are some of the leaves do not have the classic slit?
Hi Amy, nice to meet you! Do you notice the leaves droop from time to time or they are permanently droppy? Usually the slits will start growing over time, granted that the monstera is growing happily - they start growing what is called ‘fenestration’! ☺️🍀
Can you talk about trimming it pruning?
I inherited a very unruly plant with multiple stems that look to be about ti break.

Thank you so much. What type of soil is best for this plant?
No worries at all! They prefer a well draining soil - so usually I will add perlite, orchid bark a bit of charcoal to my potting mix to increase the spaces between the soil, in order for the roots to breathe. This is beneficial on many fronts and prevents you from ‘overwatering’ the plant. Hope that helps! 😊
Also forgot to mention - the ingredients I listed aren’t a ‘must’ - some people use vermiculite and other spacers, and it’s based on preference. I do perlite, just because it’s so readily available at my local hardware store ☺️
Thank you so much!
@@vilmareynoso7343 no problem - happy to help ☺️🍀
What about those sticks growing out of the stems of the plant? Do we have to cut them off.. not even sure what they are called.. they look like roots growing on top of the soil
Hiya! I think what you may be referring to are aerial roots - I tend to leave them alone and just tuck them back into the top part of the soil when they get too unruly, although I have seen a lot of success with people cutting them down because they don’t like the look of it as they can get pretty messy. I rather leave it be to ensure I’m not stunting the growth - but again, no harm. Hope that helps! ☺️
Hi what for soil are you use for your monstera? And what for pot is better plastic or a terracotta pot?
Do you have the link to the trellis you used? Thank you!
This is the one from the video: www.bunnings.com.au/jack-80cm-green-plant-trainer-trellis_p3321785
Just note, it was just a cheap temporary solution, as over time, it will get a little to heavy for it! I’m still overdue to change it to a more sturdy one, soon! Hope that helps ☺️
I put my monstera in the shower every now and again to give the leaves a good blast off. Just avoid washing the pot out when you're doing that :)
Hello! Can you please tell me if the roots need any trimming? I mean the ones coming out of the plant. They are out of control in mine!

No worries at all! They’re real hardy plants, so Kim sure you will be fine! I’ve burnt a couple of plants before, you could potentially prune the affected leaves and that will leave room for them to grow some new ones ☺️ all the best and thankyou for watching!
Hi how can i get the heavy leaves upright lol my plant is huge !! And its growing wild lol
😊
you would definitely need a trellis or stake to help you manage the stems/vines/leaves better - if it's quite a mature plant, I do understand it could be rather difficult to introduce one - but better late than never! You would just need to purchase one and then get into it and find a good anchor point. You got this 💪
Another video says the monstera will root up into the moss. Will the delicious grow roots into the moss? Mine isn't growing very fast. Had a year.
Hey Jeremy!
Yes! This helps a lot. I will try it for my next watering. Thank you, for your help. 🙂🙌

Do monsters do better outside or inside? 2 do the roots hang out or will it be better under ground.

Hi Karen - it was one that I purchased from our local hardware store. However, about a year later and I think I wouldn't reccomend it, and would opt for a sturdier one! Here's the product link anyway 😊 Hope that helps! www.bunnings.com.au/whites-80cm-green-plant-trainer-trellis_p3321785?
could you show the trellis you're using?
I’ve been using this one (www.bunnings.com.au/jack-80cm-green-plant-trainer-trellis_p3321785?srsltid=ASuE1wTvZFyCH7Exp7dVfugrDFLztWycsUPW6qPmxKChEwks0DGByMjrKig®ion_id=117071) but only as a cheap option - I’m long overdue for an upgrade as my monstera has grown too large and heavy for it now! Hope that helps
@@simpleplanty thank you
@@DeGoya you’re welcome ☺️🍀
Awesome!❤
Thankyou 😊🙌🌱
I just bought mine ! What liquid fertilizer do you use/recommend!
how exciting! welcome to the wonderful world of monstera's!
