      Quality job, well done, I am a little puzzled about the access to the bath trap and waste pipe, also with the quality of the bathroom equipment used and your time spent waterproofing etc, surprised you didn’t use a de coupling mat on the floor which would be stuck to the floor with tile adhesive and then tiled directly to it, saves a big step into a lovely bathroom,

    As a time served plumber and bathroom fitter, I can’t stress enough just how easy you made that look. Your explanations and attention to detail are brilliant and most likely will spur youngsters on to want to go into the profession.

      To be fair there is generic information in this video that can apply to any bathroom. The fact that Abacus put up the money for the production is something we value. We could not have made it without them.

    I would make a rather unusual comment here, and it is about UK.
    After seeing scores of videos from all over the world, I think the videos from UK are the best. And you Roger are somewhere right at the top. The amount, quality and usefulness of the content is top grade on each count. Thanks mate. Really grateful.
    The worst, IMHO, are from US where you have to deal with the ego and self praise of the person presenting the video. There is LOT of faffing around and the juice is scarcely 15 percent in terms of words and time. No doubt there are some brilliant videos from Americans and many bad videos from UK as well, but overall these are non comparable.

    Fitted my off the floor toilet and wash basin using Geberit UP200 and basin frame way back in 2013. Put Geberit's duofix metal channeling under and behind the toilet and basin frame. Plasterboard then just screwed onto the duofix. My plumbers had never seen anything like Geberit kit. I had to fit the Geberit frames to the wall myself as back then they didn't have a clue. I agree with you that Abacus have a very compelling set of solutions. Well explained set of options and things to be considered. Fitted Villeroy & Boch Subway toilet and V&B Sentique 800mm basin.

    This might be the BEST educational video EVER seen for how to make a bathroom/wet room. Thank you for taking so great care of our craftmanship and getting people to understand why solid work actually cost more than east-european crapworkship. The only thing we do different here in Norway, is to cover the entire walls with OSB sheets, under the cement sheets. Then you can have 60 cm c/c studs, and thinner cement sheets. Details thus. Thanks and best regards from Plumber in Norway.

    Roger, excellent video from start to finish, thank you. We've just renovated our bathroom, using the waterproof backboards (Nassboards) and sealing kits throughout from Abacus, and installed German steel framed supports (purchased separately in Germany on a trip and brought back over here - far cheaper) hidden behind studding for both the sink and hanging toilet, hidden cistern, etc. All gone very successfully and this video helped enormously. Our finished bathroom now looks superb, 4 star hotel standard.

    I ordered a linear former tray 1800 x 900 and abacus sent a square waste tray with linear waste, I decided to keep the tray and reorder the square waste kit. Upon fitting the waste I tested and had a drip from the bush reducer, applied more solvent weld around the joints to sort this. Upon fitting the waste to the underside of the tray and only got one side clicked up. Had to use a G clamp on bits of ply to pull the other sides up. My tray was also bashed up on two corners from the courier's and I had to use scraped up leftover kst adhesive to repair those parts.
    Just letting you know that its not as easy as your videos show.

    Very helpful advice. Just moved to UK from states and was confused how to seal in edges of the tub. Waterproof tape would be completely unnecessary if they put a lip on the tub edge like they do in the States. Silly that UK is ahead of the states in so many areas, but a simple 3mmx2cm lip eludes the plumbing manufacturers.

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  2 года назад

      It is easy enough to put a lip on the bath but it means you have to have a right handed and a left handed model. That means carrying twice the stock which raises costs

    Hi, have had a look through, can't see any reference to the plumbing. Are you using uPVC with brass compression fittings? What is the most reliable fitting, other than copper soldered joints? Are the fitting you use safe enough to use. More concerned about leaks, these would be hidden by the waterproofing. Any comments/advice?

    You should think of putting any soundproofing material behind the wall boards. Insulation material would help deaden any sounds from the bathroom.

  • @BALLOOROOM
    @BALLOOROOM 4 года назад

    Well done to everyone who put this together! Spending say £2,000 just to ensure a bathroom is properly waterproofed might seem expensive - but compare that to how expensive it is to rip out and repair a water damaged property's structure especially as it can go unnoticed for years and lead to rot all over the place and affect multiple floors.
    I would have liked to see how the extraction had been implemented with this system.

    Truly excellent in all respects Roger and I think you achieved a lot in that one video. The principles and methodology are absolutely sound in all respects and transcend which product manufacturer the customer finally selects. I would also venture that where you used the tanking membrane over joints and fixings in the deluge areas and the webbing in the non deluge area joints is in the scheme of things a bit of a short cut and I would tank the lot. Anyway great work and thanks for sharing your skills and expertise.

    • @SkillBuilder

    Hi Roger, great video. I'm a fairly competent DIYer (if there is such a thing) and about to remodel my bathroom. I wanted to know what poly pipe and fittings you are using?

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  4 года назад

      I use Pipe Life because it is the same stuff as the other brands but a lot cheaper. The pushfit fittings can be Pipe Life or JG Speedfit. Always use the liners and you won't have any bother.
      As for competent DIYers. Some of the best jobs I see are done by homeowners doing their own plumbing or whatever. If you care and you aren't in a rush you are already ahead of some of the chancers out there. When you break this job down there is nothing there which would challenge the average practical person. It is all about knowledge.

      @@SkillBuilder Thank you Roger for the I formation. I realize you are probably very busy at the moment so your reply is very much appreciated. I have been watching the channel for a while and have found both your and Robin's videos extremely helpful, especially the "belt and braces" approach.
      Would there ever be a time when you would consider doing a tool test for the competent DIYer (Less expensive) Your tool reviews are excellent, but for the mortals amoungst us, it can be difficult to justify the outlay for something you don't use every day.....thanks once again and stay safe.

    Great video, but I've had issues with this type of flush mechanism that causes water to get onto the back of the cladding below the push panel, creating water stains when it soaks through.
    If you remove the white panel shown at 3:00, you can see the top of the flush tubes. When the cistern is full, pushing the left (full flush) button at any decent speed lifts the tube quickly, water rushes in and slops up and out the top of the flush tube. Some of it splashes onto the flat shelf below the push rods then seeps forward and drips down the front of the cistern and at some point transfers to the cladding you have fitted to the front. Over time this penetrates and comes through.
    The solution is to put a restrictor plate on top of the flush tube and also add baffles on the pack of the pushrod shelf to contain any water that gets past the plate.
    Or change the design (manufacturers, your move...).

    Hi Roger
    Brilliant video. Do you have to mount the feet of the frames on the floor joists? Assuming first floor bathroom. many thanks

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  3 года назад

      No you can mount the feet on the floorboards but I always use two timber bearers to spread the load. The only reason being that I have seen slow leaks rot the boards over the years and the foot suddenly goes through the board, usually when the bath is full of water and somebody gets in. The total weight of Bath + Water+ Person (or two) is around 190 kilos.
