To all experts having a stroke over the not using a sealer , relax , there is nothing incorrect with his process .
Could he have used a sealer , yes , would it make for a better repair ? Probably not . He had a good sanding process , and that panel he had prepared after sanding will take that base coat perfectly . He had excellent coverage with the base and enough coats to cover . Spraying base and clear he had a very good technique !
Well done and I'm sure it will wear just as good or much better than the factory junk they so very cheaply
Spray these cars today with .

Thank You a lot of people don't understand the concept on where and when sealer, primer is needed I have several videos explaining how it's done I have been doing a custom painting for 30yr and never had problems people that are not painters are quick to talk without knowing anything Thanks for understanding and God Bless

Completely agree, no need for primer as there was no bare metal that I could see. As a painter, it's too hard to explain stuff to people that have very little idea of what goes into the job. Nice work mate! 🇦🇺

Excellent work! Your gun work has the three most important components: 1) consistent speed each coat; 2) consistent distance each pass; 3) consistent atomization at the tip. I promise you folks, it’s not as easy as he makes it look!

Even several coats of paint are translucent, not opaque. The different colors of the basecoat and clearcoat will show through under certain viewing angles. This is why you need a uniform color before the new basecoat / topcoat. You need a primer / sealer.

I would have hit that with some two pack primer and blocked it out but still you did a nice job and the pay isn’t always justified to do all that. I can tell you have professional level skill but are slightly limited by your air. It’s testament to your skill level that you have adapted your spray style for lower air power but higher overspray/lower material transfer because it’s a garage and not a dedicated downdraft booth. You’d probably do incredible work with out having to worry about clouds of clear etc. Most guys spraying diy aren’t doing waterborne color or spraying clear at 30 psi, it’s a single stage at lower pressure, easier to manage in a tight space.

I would assume time and money, sounds like a coat of primer sealer is ideal but depends on how long you want the paint job to last and how much time/money you want to spend on the fix

Your Kosmosky Robot Skills are on point...shame you didn't take all the way off & resealed the hood.
When clear starts to let go,the remaining clear will eventually let go as well.

Cheapest way to repair a hood, but I’m sure there’s no warranty on that product. 6 months or less before paint dulls out. That’s the earl scheib old school style painting.

Beond that its not even like paint..hence 2K. The activator can go bad..but that is not the clear coat. I used to fix this by sanding with 220 then applying three coats of 2 k primer surfacer then wet sanding it with 400 grit then painting it.Yesterday I saw this video and decided to sand it with 220 then 320 finishing it off with 400.all dry sanding. The only thing I did different is I applied one medium wet coat of sealer.Just amazed at the time and material I saved.Been doing it the old way for over 20 yrs.😲😲😲😲

That problem here is not that the "paint has faded" as much as the clear coat is failing. It's peeling and flaking away thus exposing the base coat underneath..
