    The BMW really has the best value here by far! And it comes with a sweet bavarian inline six... The Audis five cylinder roar is my favourite noise on this earth though... but the Audi is more than twice as expensive as the BMW which sadly cant really be justified... I'd really like to have a go in one but I'd probably put the BMW into my garage - if I had £8000 that is... ...and a garage...

    • @ACERASPIRE1

      @@RGB5555 In my opinion thats kind of a stereotype everyone has about BMWs (And I used to share it)... Now that my daily driver is a BMW I can say that it doesn't break more often than the Seat (VW) I had before... Also a good pal of me drives his E46 high milages every year and hes not complaining about very high maintanance cost either... So while there might be a few models that are known to have a lot of common fails other manufacturers do have such models too...

      @@RGB5555 I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have much luck with your cars but I'm still not at the point of accepting that this only is a BMW thing... Other manufacturers cars do need repairs too... And they also have common fails... But if I'm somehow able to pay for my BMWs repairs I don't even mind them on this car because I get rewarded with a car I really like and enjoy... Let's see if time proves me wrong... Haven't had the BMW for a whole year yet...

    Its good to hear that car reviewers are now emphasising the serious reliability ownership issues of a Porsche with an M96/97 engine. Having owned a Gen 1 997 I can advise that you will only get a very basic engine repair for your £8K. To address issues such as bore score, IMS bearing issues/upgrade, timing chain guide failure & the now appearing rod bearing wear you will be looking at £15K from the expert Porsche engine repairer Hartech of Bolton.

    Im sure you cant buy z4 35i for 8000 pounds.. lesser models maybe. 35i has a N54 twin turbo engine and dualclutch M-DCT transmission pretty much the same a in e90 m3. There are many stage 1 tunes out there that boost its performace to 360-370 hp. I have cobb accesport on it and a simple 0-60 i tested 4.8 seconds. That was without using launch control. I never use it actually. Problems coilpacks(newer coil models are better Eldor etc), gaskets (valve cover,oil filter housing, injectors if they are older revision maymake noise and leak, dct pan gasket may leak, turbo wastegates may rattle, intake valves need carbon cleaning regularly, m adaptive suspension is awesame but its fragile and expensive to fix... 2500 eur for 4 shocks.. i went with KW V3 kit instead, it has adjustable bump and rebound, makes it handle
    Better and you can tune it to your liking, got it on spring sale for 1640 eur, dont buy edc cancelation kit, there are guides how to code adaptive suspension out with a 10eur usb cable. Tires are expensive: you dont want to drive on budget tires with 360 hp, michelin 4s, Supersport is the way to go.

      @@davidpeters6536 I was talking about the dual clutch transmission in 35i and 35is. Its basically the same unit as the one paired to the M3s V8. Minor differences. In m3 you can change the speed of the shifts, in z4 its changed via driving mode ( comfort,sport, sport+) Also in m3 dct does not change up when hitting the redline( must do it yourself, better on track) in z4 it always changes up. There are are 2 variant of the M-DCT transmission differing in how much power it can take. lower one is in m3 and z4, later 335is, Higher one is in M5, M6 F 10-series i think. Both have almost the same product number from Getrag. only one number is different indicating power rating.

    • @donsirsimon
      @donsirsimon 4 года назад

      @@davidpeters6536 In January 2008, BMW introduced a dual-clutch transmission for their M3 model, manufactured by Getrag, embedding a DualTronic dual-clutch module from BorgWarner, and dubbed "M double-clutch transmission" (M DCT). The same transmission is used in the second-generation Z4 (the Sdrive35i and sDrive35is versions), and is an available option on the 335i (coupe, convertible), 335is and later 135i builds.[52]
      BMW released the new M3 (F80) and M4 (F82) with the seven-speed DCT in 2014. The same DCT was used in the M2 (F87) released in 2016

Fun to drive, just a little to small for me. I have a A6 with the 3.0 TDI. Plug and play tune now gives me 283 HP and 515 ft pds or trq. 0-60 in 4.9 yet I get 42 MPG at 78 MPH...

    • @Tallandcharming
      @Tallandcharming 4 года назад +1

      John Jerrehian hi John, I don’t mean to call you out on your claim but this doesn’t make sense. My Arteon has 280HP standard with a DSG gearbox and weighs LESS than an A6, especially with a petrol engine onboard and standard 0-60 is 5.6 seconds, there’s literally no way you can get 4.9seconds in a heavier car with near identical HP. I’ve now tuned mine to 340HP and get 0-60 of circa 4.5ish seconds. How is it possible you’re claiming that sort of time, unless you’re driving down the worlds steepest hill or have totally stripped the car bare of anything to reduce weight I’m saying it’s highly unlikely, if not impossible.

    • @go2yanks
      @go2yanks 4 года назад

      Tallandcharming torque plays a pretty big role in acceleration, it could be down to that tbh. Having 515 ft lbs of torque in a car that weighs that much would be potent. Also, how the car is geared would make a big difference as well.

      Several well experienced journalists have commented that the Cayman will out-handle the equivalent 911 and has more driver feel to it. Considering the price difference it sounds like a pretty formidable choice

    Recommending BMW's and Porsche Cayman and Audi's ...GERMAN CARS..... Oh ya, the sound of your wallet being drained to maintain and repair these cars is SO PAINFUL... I have owned them ALL.... GERMAN CARS ARE INCREDIBLY GREAT DRIVING CARS BUT THEY ARE NOT RELIABLE OR ECONOMICAL TO KEEP..... Do yourself and your wallet a favour (especially if you value your money) STAY AWAY.... The people who embraced these cars initially did so by leasing them, then they gave them back JUST before the major costly problems occur --- THEN YOU COME ALONG AND BUY THEM??? All while they drop in value like "Cement Boots" in Flat Water....
