Is it just me, or do all of these “Fifth Gear Videos” look like they are 15 years old because the video resolution is so so bad?”
Yup I can't tell if these are the latest clips or old clips uploaded
Yup
It's the because they use the same shitty intro
It’s mainly the outdated intro and TV show vibe which I can’t quite define. It may be the colour grading though that seems ok.
Oh I’ve seen some glitch transitions, those surely don’t help.
And yes, the colour grading is a bit weird, the asphalt and sky have a pink shade a lot of the time.
Looks like they use an old camcorder
The sound from that VR6 engine is addictive! One of the best sounding engines ever made.
With the right exhaust and matched to the DSG it does indeed sound great. Unfortunately it is way too thirsty for the performance and expensive to tax (at least in the UK). Slow, heavy and likes a drink. Could be describing myself, to be fair....
@@francishughes3017 you dont buy this car nowadays to be the fastest. You buy it to enjoy the big vr6 and its not slow by any means to be honest. And i drive an f80 m3 as well as a golf 3 vr6
@@mikesiegenthaler4224 I do agree and am definitely all about the theatre and driving experience rather than being a 0-60 bore. The problem is that unlike, say, a Subaru Impreza, virtually all of the experience revolves around the exhaust note. The R32 costs nearly £600 a year to tax though and with blobeye Subaru's costing £200 less, with similar mpg's, and now appreciating values as a future classic, I'd say that was a better bet. I can't however see the R32's going up in value.
Love my Mk5 R32 and Mk3 VR6. Fat, thirsty and sound wonderful.
💯
That Golf R32 Mk5 still looks cool today. Definitely the last ever Golf with a NA V6 engine. ❤️
Golf is ugly
@@Earl_VTEC amazing machine still
Mk5 golf tax is horrendous
@@davidcrook6046 get one pre-06 and it's much cheaper...
@@Earl_VTEC Ugly? You should say that to the latest gen Honda Civic Type R. That car may well be brilliant to drive, but MY GOD IT'S FUGLY!
That Megane would absolutely kill the other two on a twisty road or on a track.
The sound of the r32 is just something else. I’ve owned the mk4 and mk5- and regret selling both. Can’t find clean ones now
I owned a VW Jetta VR6 (2.8il) & VW Golf CTi (1.8i), I miss them dearly now that I don't have either.
i just bought a clean one. silver 2 door 1 owner. over the bloody moon with it.
@@tommartin5069 , a VR 6 VW Golf?
@@basimanemodise a r32 vr6. 3.2
@@basimanemodise I have a 2.8 4motion mk4. They never came out in South Africa. It's not very reliable but what a car. I will not part with it.
I'd also go for bmw 130i. With a little bit tuning of intake and exhaust and new map u can get easily over 300hp. U get also that beautiful sound and it's still a step higher quality vehicle, Golf and Megan are great cars, but u have way more fun with +300hp rwd bmw.
Just bought myself a future classic, a 2017 M140i ... there will never be another like it, last of the big engine in a small hatchback with RWD.
Nik Gnashers it’s turbo, though, so not the same as a 6 cylinder NA that’s why they 130i is last of its type
@@antj29 yes true, I had an E36 328is which was a sweet engine, but to be fair to the M140i there is plenty of torque from very low revs, and it's not really got any noticable turbo lag due to it being a twin-scroll turbo.
@@DjNikGnashers Twin scroll's don't prevent turbo lag. I love my F30 but the biggest flaw of it being modern is the turbo lag...
Yes! My mates got one at 480bhp and fuck me is it a weapon. Destroyed m5 , m6s, m4 at santa pod!
@Feed The P0ny Bullshit.
It is already a modern classic, how many other RWD hatchbacks are there, with a 6 cylinder turbocharged engine ?
People are snapping them up now, because everything else in the same segment is FWD and 2.0 4 cylinder. There is nothing else like it.
Proud owner of the mk5 R32, I’m so in love, 6 months in and still, i give it a wash every weekend 😎
Rice Pudding me and are the same bro. I got one six month now. The sound is pure joy and addictive.
130i.. NA engine, manual gearbox and RWD... better than the actual M135i for the driving pleasure 👍
You do get manual M135i
You buy a R32 for the noise and the fact its the last of the golfs with a v6. The inside is also a nice place to be with heated leather, nav etc. 6.0 secs to 60 mph is still fairly decent for something as heavy and fully loaded.
Fast4Life amen
The mark 5 R32 has aged very well ,looks and sound amazing after so many years
17k is seriously cheaper for that Megane, considering it's pretty much new and crowned one of the best hot hatches ever
130i because its a rare combination of a front engine rwd hatchback.
0:49 what is on the VW infotainment screen 😂
Harry Murray-Jones I dunno but it’s terrifying
remember a song called senpai, it had almost the same looking thumbnail :)
Was thinking it might be fan art of Jinx from the game league of legends
Its jinx from LOL

Had my 275 Trophy 5 years from new, still not bored
The quality and editing feels as if the video was at least 10 years old 😅 i like the content though 😀
(3:25) Vicki turning into marge simpson Hahah!
Hahahaha! Very well spotted!
Megane is the only car that doesn’t look ancient out of the bunch and actually has descent interior.
Yeah. You dont get a golf like that for 5k. The one vicki drove even had an aftermarket screen and was completly perfect on the outside.
And the wing back bucket seats
Yeah u do in UK. Just been on auto trader now and there's 5 for less than 5500 quid with less than 90k miles on the clock.
Why do cars in the UK aro so much cheaper then in for example Germany. Decent ones cost around 14k€ in Germany
Because they are rhd
@@psycheevolved1428 Well, I've just looked three weeks later and the lowest mileage one for £5k was 120,000 miles.
I have one. Trust me this is the best hatch ever. The sound is addictive and still turn heads
my brother has a top spec 130i m sport he bought off the original owner with just 60k on the clock, fantastic car that really packs a punch so understated! But for 5k you could have a lovely k20 type R, a nice megane trophy or r32 is easily upwards of 10k! that's why I've gotta Kia pro_ceed Gt not quite like those but seriously deserves some love for being a decent hot hatch.
Although I love the rwd 130i I think I’d go the r32, yes they are not fast by today standards and tuning options are VERY limited but that noise makes up for everything it falls sort on
I've had way faster cars, but as soon as you decat it , it's a vw tvr
Over here in SA the R32 is still a lot of money
And quite hard to find
Plus these things have been abused
A rare find in this condition
I had one last year in the Netherlands. It was in real good condition and for that reason i paid 17.000 euros! Hard to find a good one these days. Unfortunately it got stolen in 6 weeks. But for sure one of the best hot hatches ever made, especially the best sounding one.
They are quite easy to come by here in eSwatini and quite reasonably priced at +-100000 Rand's for 60-80k km examples. . . But that's coz our country allows import dealerships, so they come to us improted from Asian markets like Japan, Singapore, etc
I’ve had an R32 from new. Full dealer service but still needed a new dsg box at 125k cost 4k now dine 161k
I have a 130i.
It is truly addictive to drive.
Mine has LSD, headers (ohhhh the noise!!!), A few M3 bits and some weight loss.
It's more of a sportscar than hot hatch IMHO.
I also have had a R32 DSG, and currently have a Megane RS250. The Megane is unbelievable around corners and has an amazing chassis.
The R32 sound even stock was incredible. One of the best sounding cars ever in stock form.
I also have a 130i LE manual. And now a Megane RS265 cup I'd like to sell...
@@topmarques The 130i is the keeper vs the megane?
@@JuanBluesMan The Megane 265 cup is an epic car with just what it can do.. punches way above it's weight and in a circuit situation, there's no contest for the money. The 130i LE is just a good old fashioned analog/great engine package that feels special to drive fast or slow.
Just put the RS265 for sale.
I love the 3.2 VR6 in my A3, it’s such a unique set up that manufacturers probably won’t make anything like it ever again. I’m never going to sell it.
Very underrated and not common, lovely car, hard to find a decent one now as they're becoming very desirable and soon to be a enthusiasts car (collectors)
R32 over the others. However,
I do think a type r fn2 is more raw and will give you more fun. Better hot hatch in my opinion.
I had the exact same BMW but with 20d instead of this sweet 6cyl. The balance was really good but the big issue was the break, not good enough.
Where do you get an R32 for five grand? They're like 10 000-20 000 euros here if you want one under 250k kilometers!
As far as i know, used cars in uk are much cheaper because they are left hand drive. So their used market is limited to uk, less demand equal less cost
@@autodelta93 Car shown was RHD. Used cars are much cheaper in the UK genarally than in Europe.
@@autodelta93 wrong and again wrong rhd 60+million population new cars are what people want 10 year old cars not so much so
Not sure if their any cheaper over there but look for a 2006-09 A3 3.2 S-line, basically a R32 in Audi guise without the R tax.I got mine in Canada for a 5500 with a bit over 215k km and some cosmetic rust.
They are cheap as chips in the UK...you can still get a mk4 R32 for 6k and I've seen a 150k miles Mk5 R32 for £3700 in this weeks auto trader
No brainer r32 modern classic.
r32 for the pure sound but the megane run rings around them both and still run rings around the new hot hatchs especially on b roads and tracks
seat leon 1p1 (facelift) Cupra R. same engine as in golf 6R for much less, but no AWD
R32 just for the noise alone! 0:46 I have one of these ( had for 6 years ) and always fun to drive! no real maintenance hiccups ( I did the timing chain as preventative maintenance )
That vr6 is one of the best sounding engines ever made, id take the r32 every day
My heart still belongs to the 130i
So does mine, because I own one
Bilal Ahmed The N52B30 engine is pretty damn reliable, I haven’t had any issues with it whatsoever.
It’s perfect 👌🏻
Mk5 R32 for 5000! Maybe one with 150k miles and is a complete nugget.
Also no mention of the yearly road tax on one of those, £550+
For the post 06 ones yes... it's much cheaper on the pre 06 cars.
Neil Magill I’ve seen £20k on autotrader

How are you suppose to check Engine mapping?
Surprised the Mazda 3/6 MPS isn't shown here. Really cheap and 260hp. Good all round car
its quite frankly the car to go for too. So the winner of this shootout between the 130i, r32 and Megane RS is the Mazda MPS!
Its really ugly not wellknown and it’s never been great in hot hatch tests. (Handling , feel etc)
@@ThaDutchDK1989 Calling it ugly is subjective. I would argue that the 130i is ugly. I own an MPS and it's one of the best handling cars I've had, they come with an LSD as standard and a lot of new cars don't even have them. MPS' not being "well known" is a good thing, I've had the latest hothatches (S3, golf r, focus st etc) try to pull away from me and the look of surprise on their face is addicting. To be beaten by a 10 year old car that costs 3k when you're in your 20k+ finance wagon is hilarious.
Mazda 3 definitely isn't an ugly car, it's not the prettiest sure but it's not ugly at all.
road tax is expensive tho
What about the hawkeye wrx or the fd2r civic type r?
It should be said that there is an Audi A3 with this 3.2 V6. Sound similar. Looks like normal A3 (apart of big brakes), great for a sleeper.

The 130i (pre 2006 4-door) is such a sleeper, I love it. Fooling sportscars and fast sedans at the traffic light. And the sound is epic!
its overrated like bmw it self ..
I owned many cars: BMW has the best rear wheel drive every day drivers. And Suzuki the best small front wheel drive city racers. No shit! Thats why we own 3 BMW straight six models and 2 Suzuki GTI/Rallye models.
@@ringbimmer suzuki gti lolhaha shopping car its not even a hot hatch. 107hp lol a basic golf or clio or astra has the same hp. bmw is overrated had a e46 328iand it was shit and unrelaible luckily i sold it to the next bmw idiot. one lap on a track and the chassis cracks, really quality
@@ThaDutchDK1989 not as overrated as golfs
Pretty sure the electric water pump failure on the 130i is a bit more important/serious than a leaking oil filter housing gasket...
The leaking oil filter housing gasket is one of the few ways you can kill an N52 engine. Although not directly. The leaking oil drips onto the auxiliary belt, the belt slips, shreds and gets sucked in past the cranskhaft seal. Sounds unlikely but it can happen
Fifth gear is BACK!!!! Finally a good video !!
this video was filmed with the - *Blast from the past editing pack*
How about an e46 330ci? They are going for chips. 235 hp and you get to 62 in 6.5. They are literally 2k.
Fn2 type r? 2k+ and pretty reliable. Spend the rest on turbo/supercharger?
Spunking a lot of money up the wall for that with next to no sell on value. Besides, you'd be mental to modify a non LSD version to that extent, which puts you back in the £5k/£6k mark. Personally, the R32 Golf is just better in every way.
If you want a turbo Civic, wait a few more years and buy an FK2. 310bhp from the factory with the suspension, breaks and looks to go with it.
I wish we got the stickshift 2nd gen r32 in the usa

550 pounds roadtax is what you pay here in the Netherlands for every petrol car weighing between 1150kg and 1250kg. Taxes are crazy over here. Buying a good mk5 r32 will set you back about 15.000 euros over here.

Love my Mk7.5 Golf R just wish it sounded as good as the R32
Yeah but u really need to take the Ford focus mk2 but u need more money about 15-25k
I'd have chosen a Volkswagen Golf Edition 30 over the R32, although there is something awesome about a VR6 packed into a medium sized hatchback. The Edition 30 is just that little bit more special being a 30 years of the GTI edition, it comes factory fitted with color coded GTI body kit (rear bumper, front splitter and side skirts), the gorgeous BBS Pescara's and most importantly a slightly larger K04 turbo which will make it respond very well to a remap. But still a very respectable choice.
I’d prefer a mk5 GTi DSG stage 2+ quicker and cheaper to run than an R32
I wish we had the Renault in the US. But honestly, I wouldn't buy any of these cars at that age. They are too old. European cars become too expensive to maintain after 7-8 years of age. They break more often than Japanese cars do. And European parts and labor costs too much here in the US.
80's Boombox Collector We’ve owner plenty of Volkswagens and BMWS in my family with no issues. We’ve had issues with Toyotas, Nissans and Hyundai’s.
I've had my 130i for over a year now and the only things that I've had to do other than oil changes is spark plugs and coils (cheap, easy, did it myself). It's been plenty reliable. I've had more cosmetic shit to fix than mechanical. Sunroof liner got reupholstered, new gearknob, new steering wheel leather. A-pillar fabric also needs reupholstering. Now the clear coat lacquer is peeling on the front bumper.
