I bought my 130i in April of 2020 and I love it. Everything you said about them in your review is correct. I do like the colour of your car better than mine, but only just. I have a white one. I actually got it by chance as they are a bit rare here in NZ. I was looking for a one series so I could run grandkids about in a 5 star rated car without spending a huge amount of money and on the day that I was heading to look at a couple of 120i's I passed a yard that had this out front. Stopped and looked and bought. Very pleased as I got the sports car I wanted as a toy, and it is a nice safe 5 door for transporting the little ones. And mine has 45 more horses.

Looks is subjective. I personally think the 1 series of this generation is a great looking car. As for sound, with the right exhaust mods, the N52 can sound just as good as the VR6. But yeah, the Golf is a far more sensible package. It just doesn't offer the same driving characteristics that the 130i offers. I'm glad I went this way.
The R32 is all fart no poop, on the go the 1 series will give at least 3 double deckers, even my old Audi TT MK2 spanks the R32 but performance apart, the R32 is one of the best sounding hot hatches ever made. They are both equally nice cars to own, not sure the R32 is rarer to see, better looking is down to choice but a rear wheel drive straight six is the better sports car.
Thats a good call. I've always liked them, they sound fantastic. But they are now entering the relms of Garage Queens and not really a usable daily without fear of devaluation. Prices have gone over £10k for a good one. The reason the 130i stands out to me is the whole package. Fruity engine, rear wheel drive, decent handling, and more importantly, can still be purchased for sensible money. Saying that...value is all relative to the individual.

But BMW did not work proprely on it. Sad.

@@jasontietnan5447 lol, tell that to Lewis Hamilton. And more front camber, because you think on stock suspension you can do that? Stop saying bullshit just to look shiny. 130i is a fast hatch, not a gti, period.
Depends where you're from. Here in the UK. It's a hatch. Any car with a boot lid that incorporates the rear window and is hinged at the top is referred to as a hatch back.
Hatch is short for hatchback, which is, by definition: "a car with a door across the full width at the back end that opens upwards to provide easy access for loading". Thus, the 130i is a hatch.
@@nvl2691 well by that explanation a 3/5 series touring would also be a hatchback. But i agree that it makes more sense for a bigger car to be called touring rather than hatchback

Me too lets goooooooo
2:06 Turbocharge? … NA
I was talking about the last generation F20/F21 M140i, nit the 130i.
E82 > E87 imo
Less practical though. Making less of an all rounder. The E87 does more for more people!
@@ThatYellowDucati very true!
Nice, but I’d have a golf r32. Looks better and sounds better. And rare. The 3 door.
R32 looks are no match for a nice spec 1, r32 does sound nicer though less power.
Pfffff as if, r32's are cool but nah, the 130i is WAY better specially if u get it in red with a 135i rear exhaust.
The perfect hot hatch is a 147 GTA
Thats a good call. I've always liked them, they sound fantastic. But they are now entering the relms of Garage Queens and not really a usable daily without fear of devaluation. Prices have gone over £10k for a good one. The reason the 130i stands out to me is the whole package. Fruity engine, rear wheel drive, decent handling, and more importantly, can still be purchased for sensible money. Saying that...value is all relative to the individual.
@@ThatYellowDucati couldn't agree more, have a 2008 130i in Le Mans blue and with good maintenance bullet proof fun every drive
M, clearly u have never driven a 130i and not to mention a 130i beats the GTA easy
@@recklesshoongarage566 The 147 gta took the best lap, and it was with an automatic gearbox..imagine if it was manual
@@mrm.4434 I could kick that 147 gta in my 130i lmao...
See people are going crazy about the 147 gta but the 130i in the video is the US variant which is a bit slower then the UK/AU model...
Nah, 130i is a big disapointement.
I used to have it, i'm a bmw boy.
Yes the n52 pulls like hell. But chassis is just shit.
Understeery as hell (even with M pack)
Lacks so much of mechanical lsd
And needs bilstein b8/eibach prokit to work proprely.
But it's not an M.
So you can't really moan about that.
But BMW did not work proprely on it.
Sad.
Mines fitted with the B12 kit and has various new bushes and good tyres. It's handles well enough. I've not bee disappointed by it.
You are right though, it's not an M car by any stretch. Gor a fun daily, its a decent car.
More front camber helps with understeer and a better driver can also help, bad tradesman blames his tools :-)
@@jasontietnan5447 lol, tell that to Lewis Hamilton.
And more front camber, because you think on stock suspension you can do that?
Stop saying bullshit just to look shiny.
130i is a fast hatch, not a gti, period.
@@lucasvonheiz1310 fastest mk5 gti bridge to gantry is 8.08,130i done it in 8.04 so I'm glad it's not a gti thanks for pointing that out!
@@jasontietnan5447 so gti for you are only golfs? You know it's a category? Nevermind.
it's not a hatch , hatch fwd only, it's rwd compact touring car
Depends where you're from. Here in the UK. It's a hatch. Any car with a boot lid that incorporates the rear window and is hinged at the top is referred to as a hatch back.
Hatch is short for hatchback, which is, by definition: "a car with a door across the full width at the back end that opens upwards to provide easy access for loading".
Thus, the 130i is a hatch.
@@nvl2691 well by that explanation a 3/5 series touring would also be a hatchback. But i agree that it makes more sense for a bigger car to be called touring rather than hatchback
@@Manuel-gs6qw Yes, technically Estates and Touring are hatchbacks. Just… bigger.
At least make it look cool. Do some mods
