Since then I've had several Alfa Romeos but now I have my straight six convertible 1 series I couldn't be happier. Much love Jay/James.
Drive a F20 M135i or M140i and you will find your 125i has the steering feel of a race gokart in comparison, unfortunately... Myself, I have no aversion to turbos, so I just got one with hydraulic steering. You have my sympathies, but trust me, it could have been worse.

I also love and have owned the 3 door 1 series both E81 and F21. While I prefer the E81, I also like diesels so the later cars with B47 engine would be my choice. "Only" 230bhp when chipped but up to 346ftlb - which I would use much more often :)
N47 in later E8x can give 280hp with stage 2, maybe even a bit more. Thats not too bad. B47, dont know really, but maybe 300hp is possible. N47 problems are not too bad if you get the recall done. Oh, and peak torque numbers are meningless, horsepower at current revs is what you need.
Bonnet cable snapped, very BMW like reliability there. Nice simple interior the way it is meant to be. Not like these days with too much shit going on and stupid touch screen controls.
Bmw:s as a whole works very well, in a sterilized labs, handled by careful men with soft cotton gloves. They do not suffer manhandling as good as a japanese car would do.
@@Punisher9419 Dont know if you really can say the cars made in 2007 are much more simple than some ones made in 2020 though. BMWs are notorious for being early adopters of new engine tech, for bad or for worse... mostly for worse, reliability wise, unfortunately.
My current daily is a five-door 2012 125 M Sport Jay, any thoughts on these, super rare too I think, not quite 130 speed, nor a flat six but it's definitely not slow. Person who bought it new specced it to the nines too. Ticks all the boxes unless it's snowing / icy ;)

@@painauchocolate2395 Its a good car, most of them have very little problems if they are well taken care of. No doubt the older e8x generation is a more "old‐school" and more playful driving experiance though, but also not as reliable or fast.
@@elcrack3343 Depends on what you are looking for. F2x is more reliable than the e8x. 6 cylinder is generally better than 4, and diesels are quite good, older petrol not always so much. For me, there is no reason to get a 1 series unless you get one which has features no other car has, i.e. being a sporty-ish rwd hatchback. Get a 120d or up, if you can afford it. I think the 1 series is too heavy to be much fun with a 4 cylinder NA motor in it.
I've been told by some owners that the 130i is a better car to own than the 135i as it's more reliable and potentially more fun to work hard with an N/A engine - would you agree?
I own a 118d 2009 msport. And the only issue that consistently gets into my head is the damn timing chain..it always concerns me whenever I drive it. And I have no paperwork of if it was done previously! 101K miles and passed every MOT and done less than 10K most years. How can I be confident in it? My only gripe on owning the BM! I do love the rims on that BM!
You could buy some peace of mind and get it replaced, but considering what these cost these days you'd be better off just forgetting about it, if it breaks just buy another. I think the issue with the chains has been greatly exaggerated on internet forums and whatnot. Yes there were a lot of N47s written off, but people forget just how many of these engines BMW made. Some 80% of all BMWs you see on the road registered between 2007 and 2015 have an N47, they made millions of these engines, of course if even just 1% of them snap that's going to be a lot but the risk is still fairly low.
@@ginj4ninj4180 you're right the 130i manual diff is a 3.23 and the 330i manual is a 3.15. Gear ratios are the same. I would imagine the gears are still quite long on the 1 series
'modifying isn't expensive'....hmm probably into £7K of mods now, but tbh things like the dampers etc were all way past their best at 100K. Best points about them really are they attract no attention at all. Economical, for what they are, way cheaper to keep compared to an M car and with mods it's not only closer than you think, you can have much more fun at sane speeds. The engine is great, last of the breed especially with the manual box. Prefer the pre-facelift as I personally dislike the I-drive. Overall a rare car that on standard suspension and runflats was a bit of a mess, swap those and look at the stats. RWD, 6 cylinders, 270 or so HP, around 1300kg, 4 seats.....and not an IMS in sight ;)

@@Punisher9419 Dont know if you really can say the cars made in 2007 are much more simple than some ones made in 2020 though. BMWs are notorious for being early adopters of new engine tech, for bad or for worse... mostly for worse, reliability wise, unfortunately.
Lots of cars from all manufacturers snap bonnet cables.
If that was the sort of fault I had to deal with in a 15 year old car I'd be very happy.
This is probably one of the only channels I watch the entire video start to finish no fast forwarding
Nice one Bailey
My current daily is a five-door 2012 125 M Sport Jay, any thoughts on these, super rare too I think, not quite 130 speed, nor a flat six but it's definitely not slow. Person who bought it new specced it to the nines too. Ticks all the boxes unless it's snowing / icy ;)
If it's a 125 with the 3.0 you can easily de restrict it so it has the same power as the 130
@@davecom3 It's the 2.0 'twin' turbo
@@richardclarke1135 A bit of tuning will wake it up nicely. The F20 is a much more "grown up" car compared to the E8x chassis wise, for better or worse.
@@GoldenCroc cheers I’ll look into it, already seen on the other reply that a remap will push it nearer 300hp 🤪
Don't belive we got the 3 door hatch in Au at all, only know of the 5 door. Bummer, I like it.
these cars are hard to find i 3 door variant even in Europe
5 door is better looking imo
Would love one of these but the insurance would be hellish at my age, might have to settle for a 120d/123d
My facelift 120d sport is a great daily (now it has a better turbo & map) and some suspension tweaks. 2 door definitely looks better though.
Wow , I think I want those wheels on my 130i LE 😍
I want to import this Beemer from England. It is still in good condition. Here Southafrica, a 2007 BMW is finished worn out
If I were to buy a BMW 1 series, my choice would be exactly that one. Not least because of the (last) naturally aspirated inline 6.
Former owner of several 1 series. Ask me anything you want. I dont know everything, but I do know quite a lot. Any takers?
B58 m140i.... im very interested in one.
Which ones are worth buying and the most reliables
Why is the grass green?
What came first, the chicken 🐔 or the egg ?
You should do a review of mg6 mk2 only on sale 1 year and a fantastic car and I think nobody knows of them it's all ev mg now
That is an awesome car James!!!
Yes James, I like it too!
Nice car 👍 I had a silver 07 plate, straight 6 manual great .
Does anyone have any advice on what to look for when buying these, also what is the deal with the auto gearbox is it good?
Sounds fantastic. Any other mods besides the back box?
I've been told by some owners that the 130i is a better car to own than the 135i as it's more reliable and potentially more fun to work hard with an N/A engine - would you agree?
At the end “maybe 6” 🤣😂😂
@@BigUriel That's interesting to know...! Thanks Sergio!
I’m eyeing up one of these or a 125i coupe
The sport seats gave me back pain after a while....engine is glorious tho
Have you lowered is James? Looks bang on
Nope! They are like that from factory, may have sagged a bit over time but it always rode low
Greet car...we will miss..expecially for the rear traction
One thing I disliked about my 330i N52 was the long gearing, I wonder if James will agree 🤔
isnt the gearing different on the 130i version
@@ginj4ninj4180 ooo I'm not sure actually, I had assumed they'd be the same or at least very similar. Now I want to find out...
@@ginj4ninj4180 you're right the 130i manual diff is a 3.23 and the 330i manual is a 3.15. Gear ratios are the same. I would imagine the gears are still quite long on the 1 series
How do you get on with the twisted/offset pedals? My Mrs used to have a 120d i just couldn't get on with it
It's fine. I don't even notice - compared to some of my other cars it is very mild!
Could someone tell me which engine I have: it’s a 2008 325i with a 3 litre straight six petrol naturally aspirated engine. Is this the N52? Thank you!
Yeah n52 just non turboed
Magnesium NA port injected BMW 6. Last of its kind.
Always liked 130i, still do.
Are those wing mirrors truly as nice as the ones from the Vauxhall Vectra James? 😄
Been following you for a year or so. In before you hit 1m subs.
2007 BMW 130i for $15k in NewZealand, around 73000 kms , should I buy it?
As a e87 owner myself.
I have to say this is an especially attractive spec.
Plan on selling it any time soon?
For the right price, of course
@@JayEmmOnCars Would love to make you an offer.
I'm from Germany though and failed to notice, your steering wheel is on the wrong side.
Those two doors are really hard to come by over here too.
Great video thanks 👍🏼 would you recommend the auto version of this? (Flappy paddles) Anyone driven it?
That is why I just bought a les man blue 130i
it really is a good looking car. i wish I can find a decent one for sale.
N52 crew here, actually my sons.
2008 328i, 6 speed manual.
Just rolled 190k miles and it runs great.
Was a great example car when he bought it, 2 owner complete service history.
We’ve done all the maintenance and repairs on it, so reasonable cost of ownership.

I love the E9x generation also.
Great styling IMO and still looks like a modern/newish model and the last generation before they started getting too “soft.”
Not completely old school mechanically, but still basic enough that you can DIY on it, ISTA or a BMW software specific OBD tool is helpful.
Weirdly enough your one series is one that I don't detest
Wonderful car. Great engine.
Great Car!
