Many of the problems you detail in the video (rear window and over-the-shoulder visibility problems) are shared by Ferrari and Lamborghini owners...but at three or four times the price. Welcome to the world of exotic cars, my friend! 🙂

I'm a retired guy in my late 70's. I loved the looks of the C8's but thought they were expensive. I've never owned a Vette before. When I found out the one could be had for the mid $60k's, I found a new Basic Torch Red 1LT 2024 for $65,900. Personally, I think it's hot !! Yea, it would be nice to have a better model with more stuff, but I don't mind. I'm just happy to own a Hot Looking Car. After about 2,000 miles, I noticed the front radiators were getting dented by pebbles. I purchased the front radiator guards on Amazon for $79.95 and installed them. Since then I've installed about $2,000 on extras. On Amazon I purchased Front splitter, a Z51 style rear spoiler, side rocker panel skirts. I also installed a 2MFabrication Exhaust System. Plus much more...I do all my own work so I saved a bundle on installation charges.

Lady I work with. Has one. She has a hard time opening her door in parking spaces because it’s so long. When she asked the dealer he told her it is not a commuter car. It is a race car. Water pours in to the engine compartment through the rear deck hood vents when washing or if it rains necessitating engine bay cleanup. My 2LT seats do an amazing job cooling so it must be the 1LT seats that are at issue. Other than that I agree with you on the other 4. That said, it is an AMAZING car to drive and I love every single time I can get behind the wheel.

Properly set mirrors will have no blind spots. I had C7 GS before I bought C8 3LT Z51 and, once you get used to mirrors, you don’t need blind spot monitoring. Agree with the radiator grill issue and the wireless charger but pretty minor issues overall. I absolutely love my C8!

I agree with the visibility issue. I did put blindspot mirrors on my mirrors. I agree with the radiator issue as well. I bought guards for that. I have a simple cell phone so the charger is a nonissue for me. The heated seats work well. I’ve never tried the ventilation feature. The trunk is very hot. I’ve checked mine with a gauge and some spots were 134F. We are very careful when we travel not to let our meds back there or electronic devices. All in all I feel your comments are spot on. I have a 21 C8 and everything you said is valid. I put grille guards on the front and sides of the car immediately and would recommend everyone do the same. I believe every C8 should have the rear view mirror camera for safety reasons. The ventilated seats recirculate the cabin air so if you turn them on with the windows down you won't feel much. With the AC on and the windows up though it is much better. I think all Chevy vehicles do ventilated seats this way. That said my buddies Ford ST is still way better. Ford pumps the AC air directly into the seats. Ice cold! Chevy needs to do that. The phone charger is put in the middle for safety reasons. They don't want you fiddling with it while driving and with the screen it is mostly unnecessary to grab your phone. I put heat shielding on the inside of the trunk liner and it lowered the temps by 30 or so degrees. Still warm but keeps my hot food warm until I get home. Would be a good pizza delivery car. Lol. Great video!

  • @stevennatale4471
    @stevennatale4471 2 года назад +6

Honestly, those are all pretty "nit-picky".
    1. Chevy now offers protectors for the radiators due to customer concern. NOT engineer concern just customers. I have NEVER needed them for ANY other vehicle with exsposed radiators EVER, but for some reason THESE are "extremely brittle" for some reason?
    2. Rear Visibility. This is a slight concern. Play with the settings of the rear view camera, it can be made better, even at night. BUT, even at its "best" it is barely acceptable IMO.
    3. Ventilated Seats...its right in the name, simply ventilated. I like them not to be overly powerful, yet these are slightly underpowered. IF you turn on the A/C to FLOOR setting, it helps as the seat ventilation picks up the cooler air, give it a couple mins and your fanny should be happy.
    4. Cell Phone charger..LOVE IT! out of the way, wireless CARPLAY works VERY well, one of my favorite features. It keeps me from even trying to access my phone while driving, a good thing! Plus, just dont feel the need to. After a year, I no longer forget it anymore either, THAT was the hardest thing to deal with WRT the phone charger location.
    5. Trunk does get warm, yup. Rule of thumb "Cool in Frunk, Warm in the Trunk".
All are concerns, none make me hate, most just take time to become comfortable with. Overall, nothing there that would inhibit years of enjoyment, IMO! ;)

As a former Corvette owner, I see these cars as more recreational or hobby type automobiles, and not the best as daily drivers for most of us. Of course, the majority of “enthusiast” vehicles are probably in this category, and I applaud whatever team at Chevrolet was responsible for bringing the C8 to market. Sometimes the engineers overlook some obvious (even to the casual observer) design shortfalls!

Hate is an overused word in 2022. Your complaints are all legit and have been well documented. The front grill openings are AC components, the radiators are behind them. The rear view camera at night is something I hadn't heard a lot. The seat and cell charger aren't as good as they could be. I have a 1LT and adjust the mirrors very wide. I have had some close calls. Mostly on the driver's side. This is the first car in many years that I love. I also have a problem with the seats. My right hip and back of my thigh begin to hurt after a while. Still playing with that. Get some new wheels and start driving.

    @alexchan4424 Год назад +2

1 - Call that an annoyance. It's not the end of the world.
2 - VALID. Terrible blind spots, and non rear visibility at night. I don't want to pull, "a lot of sports cars have poor visibility." Safety matters.
3 - VALID. One of the reasons you pay for 2LT is for the visibility (primary) upgrade, and for the creature comforts. Too bad it doesn't work well.
4 - I don't know.... They did say it was driver focused, the phone is considered a distraction. I guess it depends on the target demographic. If it was supposed to be a dedicated cruiser, then I agree with you. I was told the 1LT was the no-frills track car. So if you are actually tracking the car, then the phone position doesn't matter. I don't use my phone when I drive, and as you said they have Apple Car Play, and Android support; so you shouldn't be touching the phone anyway. Forgetting your phone in the car is an individual problem. Always pat yourself down when leaving the house, car, or public space.
5 - SEMI-VALID. I mean, is it a sports car, are you putting your golf clubs back there, the person who owns this car likely has 2 cars. From a design perspective, that is a decent problem. Overall, I wouldn't say it's terrible. I mean the 911 has really loud back seats because the engine is there. You don't see people complaining about hauling around friends. I think it goes back to the C8 design focus. Is it a track car, or is it a true daily driver? Being based on the 458, I'm going with not a daily driver.

When you made that decision and signed you essentially agreed to throw 'visibility' caution out the window. Period

I bought a 2022 in December. I just purchased the Scape Armor guards, it's an option from Chevy on the 2023. Still $500 and they should have been there. Same for the side inlets. I got used to the rear visibility fairly quickly, adjusting the side mirrors out a bit further helps a lot. Adjust them so you can't see the side of your car then go a touch more. I'm glad the video mirror is there but I haven't used it much. It takes some getting used to. I like the cell phone charger in the back, phone stays in place, charger works well. I don't play with my phone while driving so no big deal for me. It is; however, a bit hard to retrieve, not a flexible as I used to be ! It's January so no comment on the ventilated seats, guess I'll find out in a few months. It did take a bit to dial in the heat so my feet stayed warm (an old guy thing I guess). I'll also have to see about the trunk heat once it gets warm outside. Not sure how much of a concern that will be for me but I can certainly see it could be an issue. One item I'll add is the cup holder cover latch. I don't normally drive with drinks in the holders but I have on a few occasions accidentally opened the cover by brushing my arm on it. It would be nice if it needed more of a push to open. Thanks for doing this, like you say, no car is perfect but it's good info to help people know more about what they're getting into.

I'm waiting on some things to line up, but would be thrilled if this was my first sports car. The 2023 z06 with the z07 aero package would be the only one I'm interested. Instead of a Ferrari I would pick this up just given the bang for buck. The rear view mirror is such a common issue with most modern vehicles. The rear glass on modern vehicles just doesn't offer the same visibility as older vehicles. Likely why rear view cameras are becoming more and more common. Not sure if this has front cameras as well like earlier models offered, but given how wide the vehicle is and low visibility, I'd feel uncomfortable parking without until having ample time to get used to the size and driving a new car. Great choice overall, can't go wrong with a vette. And while I have two kids in diapers, if investments and my wife allow, I'll be having one of these in 2024. Will be turning 38 then and will hopefully avoid any "mid-life crisis" comments haha.. just love cars and have been super practical in life.

Every car brand, including Porsche have zero protection for their front facing heat exchangers (condenser, oil coolers, radiators). That open mesh you showed provides limited protection.
Best thing to do is to attach a fine mesh directly on the radiator. Openings should be larger than a typical bug mesh but with simple zip ties it can attach to the radiator and provide much better protection.

I have a 2019 2lt Grand Sport and what I wish they would have offered is all the collision avoidance features that I have on my 2021 Bolt. Based on your blind spot complaint doesn't Chevrolet offer a compliment of these safety features on the 2023 C8 and if so why didn't you order that package?
From the introduction of the C8 in 2020 I saw a storage problem that your heat complaint didn't cover. That is when you have your targa roof stored in that space you lose the only viable storage. Not a big deal when you are traveling close to home but if you are going on a trip and want to travel open air you can't. That's why if I ordered a C8 I would get the power convertible hard top roof. My wife and I did a coast hwy trip from Portland Oregon to the Hearst Castle in our C6 coupe. With soft luggage and careful positioning we were able to enjoy open air riding throughout the journey. It was especially enjoyable on the journey from Carmel to the Hearst Castle. If you live on the west coast and take that ride you will definitely want your top off. It is an unbelievably beautiful ride.

Most of these I knew before I signed on the dotted line. I did a lot of research before I bought my first new car ever. #3 I can't speak to. #1 I agree Chevy should have put grilles there, but it's an easy add that I had done at the dealer before I took delivery. #2, I always have used my side mirrors, and the rearview camera works fine for me at night. Actually during the day glare can be bad leading me to consider tinting the windows. Maybe your angle setting on it's just wrong. #4 - I don't use that pocket. I plug my iPhone inside the console. First off- the music and voice will get better sound through a cable than through bluetooth. This was true on a honda I paired my phone with also (before I had bought my C8), so it's a bluetooth thing, not a corvette thing. #5- They say that trunk is for clubs. I would never have even tried to put groceries in there. Clubs or luggage, that would be it.

Hey Tom, love the car! Color is awesome, too. The trunk situation would push me to the convertible. Unless it heats up the top, too, which is likely. The charger location is probably all about the lack of room under the center console and the dash board. Everything got jammed up front in the design shop. The seats are limited in thickness. They finally put some great seats in those cars, but adding A/C vents takes up a lot of space. I'll bet the vents are a lot smaller diameter than the ones in your SUV. I got a Power Wagon, instead of a Vette, because I live in the country and the roads are terrible. I know this car of yours is one bad motor scooter. Gen 8s all are! Just start tricking it out to fit you. Drive the wheels off and buy some new wheels. You've already solved the grille situation. Look at it as Chevy did a great job, but you just need to tweak it a little. Like telling Enzo Ferrari, "I love the car, but could you put in a cup holder?". Pick your own cup holder. Peace, OUT.

And for some strange reason, the air is not cooled as in other cars I've ridden in, even when running the A/C. The 2023 C8 manual even mentions that the air is not cooled. I think the C7 reeeeeally pushed the price to performance ratio into uncharted Vette territory. The C8 Stingray crossed the rubicon, and for the first time (mostly due to stupid option pricing) the Vette became a clearly bad deal.
The C8 Z06 only dramatically reduces the engine size (compared to the C7Z06’s SC 10L displacement) a made it 250 lbs heavier. As priced, the new Z06 is the worst performance value of all time. No question.
So its a shame the Vette has been ruined. But with a fat girl running GM and another fatter girl running GM racing, what should we expect?

    • @FFE-js2zp

To answer the obvious Q, what should a modern American V8 performance car sell for:
      1. Similar to its material quality (plastic body, very old motor design, low skill union labor)
      2. In line with its torque to weight ratio. That ratio defines acceleration/performance.
      3. In line with the OEMs willingness to warranty it. No one wants a pricey unsupported car.
So with today’s prices (which are currently falling, not rising), the C8 should base in the high 40s like its peers. Challengers base in the high 20s , or mid 30s in same-quality pushrod V8 form. Mustang GTs might be a little more.
Is a Vette a cheap American muscle car? No. But it is a cheaply made American car. GM is arguably the lowest quality of the three. It is a unique chassis, but the C8 chassis is now the worst balanced and almost as heavy. Its not a good track layout. Ron Fellows calls the C8 “undriveable” on the track. Its not well made. So what is it?
      Overpriced.
A well equipped C8 Stingray should upper-end in the $65K range, not $115K. The C8 Z06 should MSRP for less, as all it does is reduce engine size and add dead weight.

I also have a C7 GS Collector Edition 3LT. 20K miles. The 3LT leather is all bubbled and delaminating. Its always been garaged, but we have hot temps here. Independent upholstery shops wont touch it for any amount of money. GM wants $4K to return it to fully defective. I have the classic Service Rear Axle CEL that GM says they’ve never seen and can’t diagnose, despite the internet on fire with the same issue. My ECU needs to be replaced to fix a dead electronic stability control unit. No need as I live in the south, so no traction control is fine. I have one key bcs the other keeps failing. I had a major problem with the all the electrics turning off and then cycling for about the first 10 minutes of driving. GM had no clue and told me it was “normal behavior.” I replaced the battery cuz I suspected the charging period could be the issue. No change. So on a hunch I replaced the alternator in case the voltage regulator was allowing too high a voltage while the battery was charging and the ECU was cycling the electrics off to protect them. Bingo. Fixed. GM service is truly horrendous. Its like asking an intern, and I suspect they do use interns to save money.
I also have an engine tick for the first 2 minutes of cold start. Oil is fresh and topped off. Chasing that down now.
So overall, its fine for CHEAP but its not that cheap, and the C8 pricing is just absurd for a GM product. These are fairly low end cars.
I have a 2014 Jag F-Type V8 too. It is night and day better than my C7 GS in both performance and superior quality top to bottom. The Jag is rip roaringly faster, sound is over the top, handles so much better, the inside is so luxurious and the seats are thick comfy leather, I love driving it. And it came with Jags 7Y/100K bumper to bumper CPO, which expired unused. The experience has been night and day for me. I’ll never not-have an F-Type til I die. The C7 is my last Corvette.
