There is an art to ... being able to take, what appears to be on the face of it, two random and seemingly disparate items, but you assist the listener, to make the connection on their own. Another way is to turn a double entendre, back on the other person, as it their mind that's "in the gutter" when you were leading them the entire time.

Like, yea, but that's going from A to D without explaining what B and C are.
Ah you're overthinking it.
Seriously? So you didn't get how him explaining that Ryan replaced generic phrases with things that conjure funny visuals makes the process of learning to be funny less abstract and gives you a clearer idea of what to go for?
Why can't people accept that social skills are SKILLS? As in stuff that you'll inevitably suck at in the beginning, regardless of whatever advice you get, and that you'll have to practice and fail repeatedly before you can be good at it.
Just because a piece of advice won't make you instantly funnier doesn't mean it's bad advice. If you think it is then you just don't understand how skills work.

Next video: "how to fly"
"IT MAY SOUND DIFFICULT, BUT YOU CAN DO IT WITH A LITTLE PRACTICE..."
Here’s what you have to do. The main thing that flying requires is the ability to throw yourself at the ground and miss. You must throw yourself forward with all your weight and the willingness not to mind that it's going to hurt, however it will surely hurt if you fail to miss the ground. The difficulty is in missing the ground, and doing so accidentally, as deliberately intending to miss the ground does not work.
It is also advisable not to listen to what others may say, as they could say something such as: "Good God, man, you can't possibly be flying!". It is vitally important not to believe them or they will suddenly be right, and you will find yourself failing to miss the ground once again.

Damn bro your stories are getting fuller they've been good all along but just noticeably improved. Keep up the great work.
The key here is instead of answering questions directly and dryly, make your responses into stories. This can draw out conversations and keep the small talk to an absolute minimum.
But remember to not make everything about yourself. Context of a situation matters.
But don't forget when making your responses into stories, to avoid the Abe Simpson effect...
"We can't bust heads like we used to. But we have our ways. One trick is to tell stories that don't go anywhere. Like the time I caught the ferry to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for m'shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. 'Gimme five bees for a quarter,' you'd say. Now where were we...oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones..."
RIP ABE
@Keep300 Yeah, it's about delivery really, you can keep things from getting long-winded (because nobody likes people who talk too much), but making sure to give people enough rope to keep the conversation and interesting.
But honestly, if you're good at asking questions and focusing on the person instead of yourself, that would probably help more than telling stories imo.

"Funny" is a whole new level that is unreachable
Wanna hear a bad joke?
Dad: Hey son, I'll teach you about the delicacy called "Hotdog"
Son: Yaaay Daddy! I want me some Hotdog right now!
Dad: Now listen carefully son, you see that Rotwheiler over there?
Son: Yeah, that's our neighbors dog!
Dad: Well here's what I'm gonna do...Imma go over there with my machete, kill the Dog, and roast it.
Son: so that's how Hotdogs are made?!
Dad: Yes, and then once it's done cooking, grab the buffalo wing sauce in the fridge, son. And then we have ourselves some nice hotdog!
Son: But won't the neighbor be mad daddy?
Dad: Nah. Nothing a little lie can't fix.
Son: Ok Daddy! I believe in you!
This comment made me laugh tho so you are funny!
Literally though.
"Ryan Reynolds is a Natural Deadpool..."
I find that ridiculous unexpected honesty can also get you a few chuckles. For example, I was at work the other day in a public setting, and my back was hurting. I tried to sneak to the back for a quick break but my boss was there, and I simply said "Listen i'd love to make up an important excuse for why i'm back here but you and I both know i'm trying to sneak a break." He laughed and gave me 5 minutes to sit down.
“Better to be a smart fella than a fart smella” is my go to funny joke
Sage advice!
Thank you Mikol
this kind of overthinking is exactly how u get into this situation in the first place 😭
I've got that skill day in and day out! Doesn't steal from the respect I have for professional actors and comedians because they've taken the step to expose themselves!
It's just something you are born with. To be quick witted, smart and confident. As simple as that.
I disagree. You can definitely get funnier with practice or really just confidence. I’ve noticed people laugh at my jokes a lot more now compared to when I was younger.
Experience with life in general occurs over time, and experience is relatable. Relatability is funny. It’s not that hard to make someone laugh, as long as you don’t think about it
@@qwertyasdf4081 It could be developed over time I ain't denying the fact. But it's not the same as someone who's born with it, well maybe I am wrong in some way as confidence and smartness could be built over time but not wit and wit is the main thing which helps answer this way. Even if you are confident and smart you need your wit to twist your words and for quick thinking.
(English isn't my first language)
Wow. That explains everything.
Not only is this the most helpful thing I’ve ever watched, but I can also think of so many people who have this specific problem of dumping their brains out of their ears every time they speak so they can make people laugh
I could imagine how long it took for Ryan Reynolds to learn how to be funny. After a long time of practicing it was totally worth it.
"its unrewarding to be generic" so smart
I always do that, but I don’t do it because I want to be likable, I do it because it’s a habit and it keeps things from getting awkward or boring and it’s simply just fun.
Yeah, same. I think if you do it for the sake of being perceived as funny, you'll never be in the right mind space to even grasp what you're attempting to crudely emulate.
@@PancakeSerenadeagreed!
I do this because being straightforward is just daunting
Same until someone told me I was trying to be main character... I got super conscious after that.
@@elisebernadettepalmario5324 im so sorry.. don’t allow people to put your down! either way YOU ARE the main character because this is YOUR life. 💕
Hes a celebrity in an interview, he could say anything he wants and get a laugh
“How to think quickly on the spot. Think quickly on the spot.” Essentially what this guy is saying lol
I naturally started doing this in college, and it completely changed my self esteem, it’s such a simple thing to do once you get comfortable with it
I use this approach all the time, all I get is awkward stares though😂
Your tribe will find you. Not enough funny people in the world too much seriousness. Also, one person's funny isn't another person's funny. At least that's what I've witnessed.
Your jokes have the power to stun fools? That might not be comedic genius, but it _is_ a superpower. 😂
@@innocentbystander3317 😂😂 all I need now is a cape and some spandex and I’m sorted 😆
Geez I feel funnier already after watching this 😑
How to be funny: Be Ryan Reynolds
Next up: "How to be attractive"
(also featuring Ryan Reynolds)
He's always been a great actor, funny, beautiful family. ❤❤❤
Me: finally thought of something funny to say 1 week later
You see? It works! Keep on trying!
