🤣
Bro started off just roasting us, like wtf did I do 😭
I genuinely laughed at these; it's starting to make me realize that humor doesn't have to be complicated but just unexpected
Thanks I am just about to upload new videos
@@SocialShortcuts i used to exercise like this but not for humor, just for normal social conversation
You got that
Honestly this is why I was funnier as a kid, we would just be bored walking around places and roasting everyone 😂
@@The_Quaalude hence everyone is getting worse at social skills 🙉🙉🙉
Same haha, we used to be more imaginative! When we got older, most of us start caring more about the social rules and etiquette. And I think that trying to abide to those “rules” VERY strictly can hold us back from being natural and easygoing; we become stiff and awkward. That may be why our social skills are getting worse..
@@Ailyloves if you’re aiming to be normal you can only ever be a bit above average at best, secondly what’s normal is not necessarily good social skills 😄

🙏🏽Where did you get your confidence from?
I’m a quiet person who hates American small talk that goes no where. I’m a fairly attractive woman who is also modest. But, I’m constantly bombarded with peoples vulgar sexual or racial curiosity, purely attention seeking comments, or unearned anger. Every time I turn around there’s some idiot desperately seeking my attention. 🙏🏽What do I do or say to these thirsty human beings to make them avoid me???🙏🏽
@@sandycheeks1580 hi very difficult to answer this in a short way and would need more info to solve this for you. I watched this a few months back and I do this on my own (in my head). It's a great mindfulness exercise (1) I name things as quick I can to warm up first, then I practise word association(s) to the things I see. (2)Then I use your "look at things and make jokes" game.
(3) It's also good to imagine bantering strangers that are out walking around (in my head of course) what they are doing or wearing etc to sharpen my wit
Thanks for your video, it is very very useful
Glad to hear it’s helped you and the adaptations/additions you’ve made are good 😁 going to make a video on how to do word play/puns easily with an exercise soon

"I dont have a face for radio" nice one 😂
Lol I forgot about that thanks for reminding me 😺
LOL scalpers one was hilarious. You are good at that. This practice could be really useful for me, thanks! At elementary school I was really quick with jokes which made people laugh for minutes, but I somehow lost this ability with rising anxiety. This could revive it.
Same here

Wth hell bro the same happened with me i was good at jokes until middle school after that i lost that ability with rising anxiety especially after changing school
I was like the funniest bro in class till 8th grade
Being witty is easiest when calm, cool, and collected.
Cheap Monday is really expensive on Tuesdays 😅
Don’t even bother looking when it gets to Wednesday they really just start ripping everyone off at that point
Genuinely keked at this one
Interesting thing is, most of the jokes sucked. But so far at 4:39 "draining" got me to blow my air out and Ray got me to laugh. So the trick is not to expect every joke to land, but stop censoring yourself and keep tryig until u get better and better at making good ones. One question though, is it more effective to say em out loud?
"Stop censoring yourself and keep trying until you get better" - Yes, but also generally socialising favours risk takers for many reasons, one example of which is that you rarely lose much from a risk that goes wrong and usually gain a lot from one that pays off. Also with humour especially it's more about expanding when you find something that works, so for example if I were talking to you in real life I would expand on the "draining" joke after seeing you liked it. These were made up on the spot in quick succession under pressure so I would expect most of them to suck in the opinion of lots of people.
"Is it more effective to say them out loud?" - I don't think it makes much difference if we are talking about using this exercise as practice. If you can do it with a partner and say them out loud so you receive feedback from another person that will be better though.
Thanks for commenting.
@@SocialShortcuts i personally thought the most of the jokes were funny especially the one where you said “that’s why they have running shoes to run away from the snow leopards” ahah
@@michaelobrien3483 Thanks! A lot of the time relating back to an earlier joke makes it more funny.
That “drain one” was really good. Wasn’t expecting it with the way you set it up
🤣
This was a simple yet effective demonstration of how one can practice engaging the facilities which humor is produced by. Free association skills are absolutely key to being spontaneously funny, taking one element in your environment and placing it in an alternate context whose incongruity to the familiar reality of that element serves as unexpected to the listener and this often results in laughter from them. Thank you for this video.
Thanks a lot 😄 word play jokes almost entirely are based on something having 2 plausible sounds, spelling (by text) or definitions. I have an exercise that can be practiced for making them on the exercises playlist. I’ve had some more level ups for it since then so will re do it at some point 😄

How To Be A Tour Guide 101
@@SuzukiHalwende I suck at directions tho so will need to make up for it with extra jokes
awesome. Love this guy
I used to have really bad social anxiety in highschool and I was able to pull off this really perfect deadpan where I could get an entire group to laugh really hard at something because of how I was able to keep composure in a joke, but ever since I went to college and got a job in a really linear thinking field and improved on of a lot of my anxiety issues, I became totally unable to pull off my best humor anymore because I lost the ability to use silence and timing in my jokes. I no longer hold the intense "pressure in silence" I used to create by using silence and super in tune feeling of social pressure I had, which I lost since I'm not anxious 24/7 and practicing holding composure. When you aren't anxious you really start to lose that edge of seriousness that comes with humor tbh. I think the reason why many comics have anxiety is because of a heightened 'understanding' of social pressures that allows people to really nail timing. That's why typical 'bros' and otherwise relaxed people don't have a natural comedic timing. They aren't typically in uncomfortable situations and therefore they never really practice suppressing it like people with anxiety. Being able to sit right on the edge of composure is what makes people feel tension and really find a joke funny. Basically, I think having some social anxiety can be a good thing, because it lets you practice composure much more effectively and really understand it.
Thanks for sharing this. You should be able to access how you felt before and use the good parts without any of the bad parts if you do some reflection and practice.
I relate to this from personal experience first hand. being that person in school with social and general anxiety, it can sometimes aid comedic and just social timing, self awareness and awareness of certain social situations/ dynamics
While I think this is great, you should probably disclaim that you're British as hell and that it's reflected in your humour, haha. Well done man, thank you.
Haha thanks, it's still an easy way to practice regardless of culture, my examples in this video might be more a British style of humour as that's where I am.
Not to be a hater or anything but my humor is probably bad idk, I barely laughed at any of them... maybe it was the execution or the rapid-fire idk...
Same here. I found it quite dull and none made me laugh. And im not a serious person and usually laugh at silly jokes but dono how to make one. 😢😢

Isn't there a risk of becoming really good at really bad jokes?
good exercise but I'd slow it down.. give yourself more time. you'll be funnier and not just say cheap jokes
Or just talk for 5 min straight about everything you see everyday
For some reason I found this video made me uneasy. Am I the only one here who found the shaking camera, the constant moving around and looking away and back at the camera extremely annoying?
Thx for the feedback although I think looking back at the camera unavoidable here as I’m walking down the street
You're right the shaking camera was unavoidable but the other things I mentioned you can definitely look back on now and improve on. But besides that you definitely gave some good practical advice with examples. Keep it going bro 👍🏼.
@@LW1Tok thanks 😁
My humour is pretty good but only when I make fun of my sister. When it comes to others I can't speak even a word 😭
@@d1rtyharry378 why do you think that is?
@@SocialShortcuts it's because I think my humour is based on making fun of others. And I think I can get too insulting? My sister never takes it personally and she knows I love her a lot so my jokes are not real insults. But with others I think I might offend people.
And also I think maybe if I make fun of them, they may make fun of me for a lot things. I am too insecure about a lot of things too.
I think it's the latter. If I can maybe own my insecurities, I won't get care if I make some offensive jokes that I don't mean.
What do you think?
@@d1rtyharry378 Wow I realized this about myself a few months ago too. That's so strange that another person has the same experience including feeling insecure when others make jokes at my expense. I'll share my experience with you to maybe help you and myself too. I realized most of my jokes were at the expense of others a few months ago. This actually lead to two female coworkers hating the hell out of me over time, every interaction becoming more and more nasty and subtly disrespectful, and eventually them stopping talking to me altogether. Their issues and toxicity aside, I realized my contribution was not being respectful towards others when making jokes at their expense. Funny people often have the attitude of being positive and respectful with others. Weird, right? I didn't realize that before. I also figured out that being funny in other ways is 100% possible and is what most funny people do most of the time and only using light teasing instead of what we are doing. They know their limits of teasing people by returning to their base of being positive and respectful.
Lessons learned about humor: There are different types of humor (mine are sarcasm, exaggeration, self-deprecation-self-enhancement, dark humor...etc), you can recognize what makes something humorous (surprise, incongruity, superiority...etc), and there are ways to develop humor as a skill (exercises for word association, or what this video shows and so on). Knowing this enables me to become better at humor over time. It could help you too.
A feeling of superiority can make something funny, did you know that?! I didn't. That's probably mostly why we laugh when jokes happen at the expense of others and why others laugh at us when it's our turn to be the butt of the joke. Self-enhancing humor and self-deprecating humor operate on that as well as the element of surprise that the joke has. So, I suggest focusing on surprise to make humor. There's a way to create surprise for laughter. Two skills: Main skill is to recoginze the expected or assumed meaning of a sentence, the sub-skill is to twist the meaning into something else. I learned this from a guy online with a site called a funnier you. Check it out.
Hope this helps.
That was actually pretty cool. I like that they weren't all funny. It shows what it actually looks like in real life to do a drill like this. Well done.

You think is good to put thing out of context to make humor?
Yes that’s one of quite a few ways you can create humour. Usually the majority of stuff people say to me I’ve thought of how to take it out of context if I want to.
Any techniques how do you do humour so effortlessly? for me I don't want it to look like I'm trying to be funny and I dont want my humour to come of as cringe. I'm good at making jokes but I'm not always confident with them.
One of the most important things in social skills of all (IMO the 3rd most important thing) is to follow the rule “if not sure take the risk” for everything but especially for humour. There are a bunch of benefits to this following this rule but the most important ones are that A-the risky option is usually the better one (a bit to long to explain exactly why) B-you learn way way faster. It’s worth coming off as cringe etc a bunch of times for the progress you make which will = being more funny & less cringe in the future. I think I have a video about this on this channel. Seems to me like by far your best level up for humour right now is follow that rule and care less about how you come across.
