Could you make a video on reviewing the asahi ubuntu on m1. Like how did you resolve various app instllation since it is arm64, many apps are not available. Any other problems you faced. How did you resolve those. Bdw Ubunutu 24.04 is avilable to upgrade in asahi ubuntu ( not in official page but you follow the github issues page )

I deleted the snap on Ubuntu and use Gnome software. Don't need gdebi.

After performing sudo nala fetch, you should type 1 2 3 ... 10 to keep top 10 mirrors instead of just typing 10
1st thing to do on 24.04: Delete partition
2nd thing to do: Reinstall 22.04
Ubiquity installer worked just fine.
Flutter suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckssssssss.
I understand Ubiquity was deprecated. But at least it worked.
So once I safe graphics installed, I then got a WSOD. And that was the end of my Numbat experience. I didn't even get a chance to update, install tweaks, and gawd help me if I got extensions to work.
The good news is that the GNOME GUI is gorgeous. Windows is jelly. I guarentee it.
WinTile (Window snapping) is now integrated fully. No more having to install that extension.
Firefox is still Snap based. Ugh. If you're going to install it by default, at least do a real DEB install. Same for you Thunderbird.
I still don't understand why GParted isn't pre-installed.
And just make a GRUB2 menu editor. Don't fight the Grub Customizer. Integrate it.
They chose the perfect name for this version. Would've been better if they called it "Numbnut Numbskull". Maybe add some Greenday Nimrod theme music. 😒
Oh, and it uninstalls even easier than it installs.

Mint still hasn't given me any troubles. I did have to update my .XZ packages, but that wasn't their fault.
Shelve Flutter. It's not ready yet. Go back to Ubiquity. Use it one last time. It still works.
Otherwise, go install Arch. At least it works once you get through the installation process.

Bro, should I have hopes for ubuntu? I have a potato pc with ssd. Should I use snaps or flatpaks? Right now I am on mint virginia.
I tried on my 12 Year OLD intel i5 3rd Generation PC> Ubuntu ran ok ok. It's not smooth. You can remove snaps if you want , I prefer flatpaks.

That suggestion for WARP AI Terminal; I looked on the website and says for free version you can only do 40 Requests / month; then it is sort of useless unless you pay.
My problem the Realtek alc 294 driver cracling sound 10 seconds. I try setting the alsa mixer default sound card Ubuntu Intel HDA but not work. Default pipewire
For my production PC, I swear by LTS releases and I always do a fresh install every lts release.
Yes Fresh Installation is the best with every new LTS Release.

Today I had time to try some of your tips.
Tried installing Chrome through gdebi and it didn't work, as there was a dependency not installed or too old (libglib2) and the button in gdebi was greyed out.
Needed to use the terminal and dpkg from another tutorial.
Its because of New Ubuntu ,, GDEBI is having issues.
Alternatively to install deb through command:
Open terminal navigate to the file location using CD: then type
*sudo dpkg -I PACKGE_NAME.deb *
Isn’t there a command to execute all these actions? I mean, a command that groups all these installations and tweaks? It would be very positive for the new community coming from SO, where we are used to everything working as expected without complications, with everything already installed and updated, like in MacOS.
3:43 Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't you use "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10" instead to keep the top 10? It looks like you're only keeping the 10th mirror.
use 1..10 to select the top 10
@@riccgm Well it doesn't say that. It says "Mirrors you want to keep, separated by space or comma", so 10 should only be 10 then.

Turn off your PC, and turn on to boot into BIOS Settings. Set your boot manager to windows 11 .. and save the changes and restart your PC.

for some reason on new ubuntu lots of older games on steam run very slowly(unplayable) and new ones work fine and can't find how to fix (prob have to do something with nvidia gpu) don't have same problem with pop_os
I had that issue on 22.04, I installed almost everything that pop os had and I used the .deb to install steam and it worked, I don’t know if it was one or the other but it worked

Compared to Ubuntu 22, I noticed that, for no apparent reason, Ubuntu 24 crashes, freezing. I have laptop with a rtx (nvidea). A lot using Blender, but even Firefox. Could this be Wayland? I'm new to Linux. I went back to 22, but I'm considering going back to Windows.

I would recommend not to remove snap because in 24.04 livepatch doesn't seem to work without snapd

try again:

and choose the fastest mirrors.. Otherwise use good old apt..

I know It's a strange bug in 24.04 LTS . Don';t worry. To fix this - go to settings - Ubuntu Desktop and disable enhanced tiling.

Yes.. Host OS is running on bare metal, then I used QEMU or KVM to run a virtual machine I guess KUBUNTU.

and use Players like VLC

@@kskroyaltechyeah, installed all necessary drivers, and I use vlc. Following you from a long time so I know about installing necessary drivers. But issue is still persistant, I have noticed that when I play videos in windows 10, I don't face such issue or when I Play videos in ubuntu (not in full screen) then also there is no problem.

100%.. Just replace APT with Nala anywhere you want.
*sudo nala update*
*sudo nala upgrade*
*sudo nala install PACKAGE_NAME*
the backend for NALA is APT / DPKG but it brings some improvements.

Something to do with hardware accelerator. Disable it
Use X11. Even I had issues with Wayland. Ubuntu 24.04 is not perfect. hope they fix the issues in point release.

during installation its not showing anything on disk setup step
Force turn off the PC> Boot into Windows 11, recreate a bootable USB with Rufus 4.5.. Make sure the USB drive is connected USB port 2.0 and Disable Bit locker if enabled. and try again to install ubuntu.
"Snap pack take more disk space " is also misleading, flatpak use more than snap in fact. 😂
Even better: none of them actually use much, only a few first times until necessary application dependencies are pulled. After that, no more large installs.

@@user-wd3fg3fz7u Ubuntu, just like the other ones, is a very fine distribution. While it definitely delivers Snap, it's still Linux and always will be. Someone doesn't like it? Well, the user can always permanently get rid of Snap-anything. But Ubuntu as a distro itself is a fine experience overall, well supported and friendly to install for many.
I like how Ubuntu is currently, I like it as much as I do Fedora WS, or openSUSE TW or LMDE with Cinnamon. All fine for different tastes.
People tend to do a lot of drama about nothing regarding Ubuntu and Snaps, mostly parroting FUD.

You don't need reinstall. Just login using terminal then reset gnome setting
Why linux advanced user who know codeing make installation package insted of typing in terminal, that's why user prefer windows they just install everything why installation package with some mouse clicks

Great video but I have a question. Yes, it's going to take time to get use to another software but I have always said the following for NEW USERS, especially those from Windows.
There will be literally 100's of millions of dollars to be made off of offering a paid installation fee and 24/7 support.
I will bet that several enterprising computer gurus will see the value of what I am saying and start advertising a Prepaid installation assistance fee for beginners.
This will be especially helpful for the elderly. Also, making a terminal cheat sheet for common issues would also be of great importance.
I think that there are even some companies that make Linux computers in the USA that may already off some form of support.

You can clean install. If you face any issues with 24.04, then try installing 23.10 and update to 24.04
