I sat next to Dave on a flight from Seattle to LA once. It was my first time flying alone, I was probably 12 or 13, and I was very nervous. At this point I had no clue who the Foo Fighters or Nirvana were, so I literally had no clue who he was. He could tell I was super uneasy, so he talked to me and was super reassuring, asking me my name and introducing himself, just generally being a really friendly guy. He talked about how he played music, but never mentioned the bands, and never really played up how famous he was. He helped me get my carryon out of the luggage compartment and told me to have a fun time as I was going to disneyland with my uncle who lived in irvine, and that was it. I saw a couple people ask him for a picture when we got off the plane, but I never realized who he was until a year or so later when I mentioned a "Dave" who played music and took some pictures with people to some friends who asked me if it was him, and it just blew my mind. Really, really genuine guy, and an experience I'll never forget.

I was shown how to ride the high hat while alternating bass and snare and the rest is just practice and discovery. My first entire band was like that. We figured out what we were doing as we went. Music has a way of helping us transcend the crap hand life gives us sometimes. The Foo Fighters (and Everlong) in particular is an incredible song and your husband loved you so much that he learned to play it for you. What an amazing gift. I too suffered a horrible loss to the love of my life - my high school sweetheart - my husband - the father of our 2 beautiful daughters - my best friend…to an illness. Time will pass and you might find that it hurts a little less, but this song will anchor you to him forever and your feelings will eventually become more melancholy than sad. It’s been nearly 6 years since our loss and I can finally listen to Hallelujah (Jeff Buckley’s version) without breaking down into a puddle of tears and find that feeling that bonded us to that song with a smile in my heart.

This song will forever be a part of the soundtrack of my life. When it came out I was just out of high school. I was feeling very melancholy about drifting away from people that I used to see everyday. My life was changing and relationships were disintegrating. This song captured my feeling so perfectly and the sad feeling that I get to this very day when I hear it has not diminished one bit. It's one of my favorite songs. Not because I like feeling sad, but because it has the ability to make me feel the same way as when I heard it the first time. It takes me back to my friends bedroom when I saw the video on MTV. I can still see all of the details of that moment like they happened yesterday. There are songs that stick with you in life, and this song still hits hard. Thanks for this Dave.

It's most definitely on of the best songs written in the 90's, one that immediately brings me back to one of the best decades in my life. As many times as I've listened to this song, mostly here on RUclips, I've never seen this video. I love the story behind one of my all time favorite songs. Also the original HD video is the first one that featured Taylor Hawkins in the Foo Fighters even though through another video Dave Grohl explains that he actually recorded the drum track for it. Yes, what a great song that showcases the talents of one of the best rock bands from the 90's.

Then you grow tired of it and start from the beginning on a new project. Good times.

Story time. Many years ago I had my first love. And I loved her with my whole heart. We dated for 2 1/2 years, and then she left me for another guy. It broke me so bad that I dropped out of college, left my job, burrowed head long into hard drugs, and eventually ended up homeless. I went to a rehab for nine months in St. Louis and recovered much of myself. At that rehab I met my current girlfriend, and I got an apartment up in St. Louis. It was there that one day I asked my girlfriend to come into my room and lay on my bed with me because I had found this song, and it meant a lot to me concerning my past with my ex. We laid there, and as the song played, I found myself breaking down and dripping with lots of tears. When the song ended, she looked over at me and said, “Ohmygod baby! Are you alright?” “Yes.” I choked out. “I really didn’t think it was going to hit me like that.” I had so much more to get out about what went down between me and her, and I knew that, but I didn’t think it was going to come out then. To everyone still hurting or still in love years after a past relationship, just know that I get it. It’s the deepest pain that I know. But we have to keep expelling it in whatever ways we know. Keep pushing to cope. “Being missed so dearly is the price of being loved so much.” “In the end. The only thing that matters. Is how much you loved.” “You were with them, and they were with you, and that’s what matters.” I’m finally about to send her a letter as a means of attempting greater closure. It has everything I wish I would have told her in it. Wish my heart the best please, and thank you for reading.

When i broke up with my kid's mom, and discovered a few shitty things about my health, I felt dead inside. No jokes, dead for real. And I was talking to a close friend in his home, and then this song started playing. I can't explain for sure why it did such an impact in me, but changed me, entirely. I felt alive in every possible way and started crying, out of the blue. I told many people throughout the years: this song fucking saved my life, and I believe I'm not the only one.

That's what all of those things are. Lyricists tell you a story, the music adds depth to the story and touches more chords (pun not intended, but ill take it.) in your soul. The composer puts the pages of that story in order. They are all storytellers.

I could happily listen to Dave G’s rock ‘n’ roll stories for hours on end. Somehow after hearing the back story, this rendition made me a little sad for 1996 Dave. What an epic rock monster it turned into, but the acoustic version is also something special in its own right.

This song communicated something to my soul that I can't seem to describe from a young age. Hello
    I've waited here for you
    Everlong
    Tonight, I throw myself into
    And out of the red
Out of her head, she sang
Come down and waste away with me
    Down with me
Slow, how you wanted it to be
    I'm over my head
Out of her head, she sang
    And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever be this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
    She sang
    Breathe out
So I can breathe you in
    Hold you in
    And now
    I know you've always been
    Out of your head
Out of my head, I sang
    And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
    She sang
    And I wonder
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

    Acoustics can rock too, Dave!
EDIT: Thank you, guys! Dave is a HUGE inspiration to me! From Nirvana to all the Foo material, his music has affected my playing, all my life. But, I get the feeling that Dave likes to tone down his own songs for acoustic, and that's what he means. Which, is not good or bad, it's just his preference. :D
