So. Does Airsense work? Mine is in for repair (RC Pro disconnects- they replaced the PCB.) This dropped as I was dropping mine off at UPS. Still waiting and Airsense hasn't worked since JANUARY V01.00.0500 (aircraft) and V03.01.0500 (RC Pro) so far they keep pretending they don't understand. "Airsense is for your safety" - I didn't ASK what it is, I asked why it does. not. work on Mavic 3. I have patience and appreciation for complex issues, and zero tolerance for dishonest communication with customers. None
So happy for the upgrades to my Mavic 3. Never doubted that DJI was going to address the initial shortcomings. Still mountains of potential to be unlocked in the future, too. This camera system is only going to get better with improvements in firmware
Nice video Jake. Did you try to do a range test? I have a Mavic 3 and also have an RC PRO controller. I barely make 1.5 miles. I dont think its normal. I saw a video from a guy in Hawaii making almost 9 miles with RCN1. Any idea or recommendations? Thank you
Hi Jake. thank you for the videos!! Dont you think that the digital quality of the 2x is very bad?? the quality in the HQ mode in m2pro was much better. it was like a 40mm lens. does anyone have this problem???
Love your content! I am super excited about my mavic 3. I do both real estate photography and landscape. Before the update it took 5 to 6 minutes to get a solid lock on the satellites. The last 2 shoots I did I got a lock in about 10 to 15 seconds. SO excited. Love all the rest of the new features but the majorly improved lock made everything worth it. p.s. I used to live up in Cordova Alaska... your footage makes me want to go back.
Thank you and glad to hear your experience is the same! Cordova is beautiful it’s been a few years since I’ve been there but I really want to go back as well. Cheers!!
I do hate that they always reset your settings. Enjoying the new tele features and I’ll be sampling the HLG soon.. your Sony a7IV footage looks great.. I like mine and really think it has better colors than my A1. Cheers Jake!
I just sold my 2 Pro and Mini 2 to buy my Mavic 3 Fly More Combo a week & it's been the best decision ive done. Even with the GPS issues right before the update it didnt bother me too much because by the time i setup and was ready to fly it was ready to go. But I can say that yes I feel a solid difference with this newest update compared to the last update because I started flying with the last one and It took about 2 minutes for lock. Now it's been taking 30 to 45 seconds for me. Still trying to get use to this drone a bit. It definitely flys more like a brick compared to the 2 pro but love this drone way better already.
Thanks champ, really appreciate all your time and effort. We've been blessed here down under, the longest I've ever waited was 40 seconds. Thanks again Jake.
And yeah. I am so tired of discussions about some "Zoom" camera that people have such strong opinions on. Start by understanding what it is. Then start complaining 🙄 😒 😑.
Finally somebody that understands that the telephoto camera is just that and not a "zoom." Nice concise video. I agree on all points with my 3. The 3 main things I wanted were (in order) raw for telephoto, a toggle to it instead of having to push several times to get there and better sat acquisition so I'm pretty happy.
This is the major reason why I (a non-professional) would wait until near the end of production of an expensive drone before purchasing it. Let them work out all the issues and refine all the options first. And then I know exactly what I'm paying for. Of course, that's a luxury I have compared to high end drone pilots who would have pressing reasons to buy a Mavic 3.
I wonder how much they slip stream hardware improvements into production. Improving the build by fixing engineering flaws, materials and the production process. Obviously a comparison would have to be made between early and later build Mavic's
I'm glad it's been fixed. Love that you can customize the controller to work for you. Everyone has their own preferences that makes filmmaking easier for them.
With my unit I only have a problem getting a lock if it's overcast regardless of the location. Usually I will take off with 7 satellites, bring it up to it's hight limit and let it find the rest there.
With the new firmware update I'm more tempted now. My two main reasons for this M3 over the two others M2P & MA2S that I have, are, increased air time, better communications like the MA2S, quality zoom perhaps now but…. Is the top $$ spent really giving me that much more than the Air 2S. I do a lot of commercial property photo/video and RE. Do like the RC Pro features but again at 3Kish range? All the prior issues over the past 6 months had me feeling ok to hold off. Id think by next year they'll have a new version/model. Have you done some videos comparing the quality of 4K from each of these drones yet? You feel the M3 is noticeably different and worth that price upgrade? Thanks for the videos!!
Nice improvements! Great coverage of the update! One thing I'm not clear on is whether the color display assist still affects the histogram and zebras. And, whether it's different on the app vs the RC Pro.
I messed with it on the RC-Pro the other day because I was curious as well and It made no difference on the histogram to turn color display assist on or off
@@JakeSloan Thanks for checking! I returned my Mavic 3 after a couple weeks as I wasn't satisfied with the software yet. I'll be keeping an eye out on how the software develops.
Trying to capture an RC car with my Mavic Air 2. Active track picks up everything and anyone but the RC. It will lock on for a second or two but then disconnects. I just updated last weekend too. I was using the Smart Controller though. Any thoughts? The other thing is that it will lock onto me and follow me with no problem. Really puzzling.
Locking onto a RC car is not something the AI in the drone is programmed to do so it’s likely not seeing it as a vehicle or something it should be tracking
@@JakeSloan Serious question though - I am a stills landscape photographer coming from the M2P (I frame and exhibit) so the 4:3 format is new to me! In your opinion is the Mavic 3 4:3 format desirable or should I sacrifice precious pixels to crop to 3:2 in post? Understand this varies depending on subject but wondered which you find better?
I always shoot in the 4:3 format and then crop as I want to in post. Usually it’s only to fit the subject of the photo into the various formats used on Instagram and other social media
@@JakeSloan Perfect, thanks - that gives me options too. Keep making your amazing videos - we appreciate them over here in England as we don't get landscapes like that!
Thanks for the great info. I will update mine today. I have an off subject question which no one seems to address. When I search for H.264 compared to H.265, the information seems to be about cameras in general and that H.265 is a better choice, yet when I watch drone settings most if not all are using H.264. Is there a reason for that? Up to now I have used the H.264 only because that is what I see you and others using.
H265 is better. It creates smaller files, with slightly better quality(sometimes it makes 0 difference). The only con about 265 is that it is heavier on your pc/laptop. It takes a little bit of extra power to edit these files. And not all sites are h265 compatible. Instagram wont let you upload vids in 265 for example. Generally speaking you want to use H265. The exceptions are: you need better compatibility, any device can run H264, you can upload and use it everywhere. Or if your pc/laptop is too weak to handle H265 files.
Mike is correct and RUclips will handle either just fine, mostly if you have an older computer and edit the footage on it, you will find the computer struggles quite a bit more
I have heard about that, but did you try to calibrate the IMU because the app told you to or just because? many people try when they don't realize they don't need to
What about photo sharpnes, can it be improved in updates? Mavic 3 with 4/3 inch sensor, Autel Evo 2 Pro 1 inch sensor, but in some videos comparing those drones, i saw that photo from Autel has more sharpnes and more details. Example, in distance branches of trees, car no.plates and similar looks sharper. How is that possible with 1 inch sensor comparing with 4/3 sensor in Mavic. Can it be improved updating, because i think 4/3 must have sharper image above 1 inch sensor camera. I am a bit dissapointed in Mavic 3 photo sharpnes. I have Phantom 4 Pro and Mavic 2 Pro. I am considering to buy one of this two drones (Mavic 3 or Autel Evo 2 Pro v.2) in couple days. Cant decide yet, that sharpnes is very important to me, more than other features. I am wondering is it going to be fixed by updates, or it cant be fixed, it is just like that, is it because of some kind of processor or glass sensor quality?!
Most drones (including autel) over sharpen their photos in the drone. the mavic is setup to allow you to sharpen to taste in post. I prefer it personally but I know it's not for everyone...
@@JakeSloan True, picture quality is usually assesed, but barely no one notice how photography features have poorly evolved over the years. Since the original Mavic, and until the Mini 3, no drone offered gimbal rotation for true portrait mode. All lenses are between 22 mm and 24 equivalent, which is too wide. In comparison, almost all cameras with fixed focal are between 28 mm and 35 mm.
true the lack of portrait mode has been disappointing!! I wish they would give us an option to get a full quality image with a 35mm focal length. To be honest I would prefer that for the main lens and then have a wide lens clip on the front for the wide stuff. I love 35mm focal lengths on drones. Just enough lens compression to add some extra

I feel like the storage cover puts to much presure on the blades
