Updating the Wide Angle Lens Adapter to work in all autonomous modes was THE cherry 🍒 on top of this update. The modes also work with Freewells Anamorphic/Wide Angle + clip on ND Filter kit, just released. I was the one that TOLD Freewell about it. After updating they saidvit failed, then they reflashed the FW and it worked. Think they rewarded me with gear? Think again. 🤔
This drone is freaking awesome, the quality and tech in this drone is insaneee! I would love to pull the trigger on it, but as of now it’s a bit pricey, going with the air 2s for now, but best believe I’m going after the Mavic 4 next if it comes out HAHA. Love your thoughts man! 💯✔️🔥

Hoping we see something closer to an 85mm focal length for the 2nd camera with a wider aperture. I think the Mavic 3 proved just how awesome a telephoto camera is but 85mm would be more practical for sure
My brand new mavic 3 crashed into a huge oak tree on the first proper flight in active track!!!! Thank goodness for insurance as it was a write off and I had to have a new drone sent to replace it! Never again will I trust the ‘all around’ sensors again!!!!!! I was using it in a huge field with no obstructions at all. The tree’s were only at the very edge of the field on 2 sides. I had the drone following me whilst on my bike and it didn’t stay anywhere near the distance I requested. It just went all over the place hence why it crashed into a tree. And how did the sensors miss such a big oak tree???? I am not impressed at all. I’m just pleased I have insurance for it! The photo’s are amazing from the drone which is the only reason I am keeping it. These updates are certainly going to help improve the photography side of this drone even more, a huge thumbs up for that! 👍🏼

Thanks! So the size of the files will be pretty small in h.265 and much larger in prores. However, a 2017 MB will struggle to play back h.265 in real time without using proxies
I don't know that much about Inspire 2 camera options (because that is definitively out of my budget). My assumption is that DJI will not offer options in the Mavic 3, or any revised version, that could undercut the Inspire 2 (or its eventual replacement). So, I think we may be seeing the ceiling on the 3's specification, unless 3rd party manufacturers provide extra enhancements.
Yes! Mine is in for repair. Thought it was the V01.00.0600 Aircraft and v03.01.600 RC Pro Firmware but no. Defective System board. Does yours disconnect when Mavic 3 is close by? I suggest you send it hir warranty repair. I went through it for months totally random. Days and days okay, then disconnect on nearly every flight. Good luck. Make them replace it for what we paid!
Hi Dan, good video as usual, but with your footage at 6:30 over the sea/boat, that your panning footage is choppy? This is an issue I've been suffering with for MONTHS now - I'm even on my 2nd M3 as I returned the first one as not fit for purpose! But the 2nd one is the same! This choppy/juddery footage is NOT SD card/PC related, as it's visible on the screen, even when not recording. Just slowly pan and the judder can be seen, now matter what setting or combination of settings are used, and I've literally tried dozens of combinations, and cannot eliminate the choppy footage. Put the drone into photo mode, then pan, and it's perfect. Once in video mode, the judder returns, as in your video here. It's not RUclips either, as some have suggested, as it's happening before posting. It happens on the pC no matter what video viwer is used, VLC being the worst btw. DJI now have examples, and I'm waiting to hear their comments. The time it takes to locate satellites is also a complete joke, on us; up to 5 MINUTES is common it seems, 5mins of battery/flying time, gone! My Air 2S, in the same location, at the same time, locks on almost instantly! DJI are ignoring this mess. AirSense too, didn't work, at all, on my previous M3, and doesn't on this one either! I had a small, Cessna size aircraft fly directly overhead, about 1000' above me, and,,, nothing! A2S reported this situation even before I could see an aircraft. Another failure DJI is ignoring! This drone was not ready when it was released, and IMO, it's still not ready. All issues experienced with all the latest Firmwares btw.
From Mavic 2 experience. Dont ugprade until something is not working. Every firmware update brought additional no fly zones or any limitations which in previous version were not adapted. So until you upgrade firmware (nor geofly zone)s you were able to fly almost eweryvhere :)
It is optical but it uses a smaller sensor...more like the one in your phone. There are options for using digital zoom but the 7x telephoto camera is a 2nd sensor with its own optical lens

Hey! So I will say it's very difficult with this lens. Basically the zoom on this is too much. Ideally something like a 3x zoom or 85mm focal length would be way better. Some recent leaks make it look like that might be on the way so we'll see

Just having regular ProRes 4:2:2 as an option is a major improvement, never mind LT, 200fps, the new tele controls, options and file formats etc. etc. NOW it feels like a pro product that fully justifies the cost.

Two big corrections: It’s not full manual for the tele camera. You’re still unable to change the aperture. You don’t really get 46 mins. Max usable time is 32 mins on the battery.
Hi! What about photo sharpnes and details? Is that fixed in updates? Autel Evo 2 Pro with smaller sensor has sharper image with more details( examp. trees or car no.plates in distance are sharper). I definitely envy the remote control (although you can buy it separately) but I personally don't need prores so not for me. Obviously if you prefer shooting prores it would be worth the money. But I usually shoot h.264 or h.265 on my other cameras and rarely hdmi out to record prores on external recorders so if you're like me, I'd probably skip the cine but if you record prores on other cameras, definitely get the cine

The Mavic 3 either has 1 camera/lens with no optical zoom (classic) or It has multiple "prime" lenses (pro) so multiple camera/lens combos so you can switch between cameras but any zoom that doesn't involve switching from 1 camera to the next camera is digital. Works just like your phone. Yes, the Mavic 2 zoom did have an optical lens zoom so the quality zoomed was great but the Mavic 3 has a better (larger) sensor so the quality is much better when not zooming.
@@learningcameras I have been as with the Mavic2 Zoom as with the Mavic 3 Classic zooming in with the main camera while videoing. The Classic though gets grainy @ 2X zoom & above! While videoing with the main camera is it possible to continue to zoom in while shooting a video with the main camera or change cameras in a contiguous (connecting without a break) way to zoom in & out?
@@deanjericevic8912 No, there is no way to zoom in while shooting on the classic while maintaining quality. You are better off doing this in post. It is possible for DJI to have a "crop mode" type function because the camera is 20mp but 4k video only needs 20mp so essentially, they could have a high quality crop mode but to my knowledge they don't. The crop would only be about a 1.5x crop mode though so not much zoom
Most editing programs edit prores better than h.265 so there is an advantage there plus many people already have a prores workflow if your other cameras or maybe Blackmagic or you use external recorders. I personally don't use prores often so I didn't get the Cine version
Are the telephoto lens updates (manual exposure, pro mode) for video only on the Cine model? I've updated my firmware on my normal Mavic 3, but not seeing the 7x option. Still have to go into Explore mode, which is awful.
Where do you get the music for your videos? The editing really compliments the music and give Forzia Horizon vibes which I am trying to recreate with my drone car videos.

Thanks! So no...Pro res will still have some advantages, just not much. It is a much higher bitrate with less compression and thus at least in theory would hold up better to complex color grades with fewer artifacts, but on a these smaller sensor drones that aren't cinema cameras, that part probably isn't a big difference especially if you are exporting as a compressed format and uploading to something like youtube. But prores is less taxing on most computer systems and tends to be a more stable editing format and that is probably the biggest advantage in the real world

This update has a very SIGNIFICANT FLAW. If you do hyperlapses, do not update this firmware yet. The ability to vary exposure (ISO, f-stop, shutter speed) is no longer an option during hyperlapses. The work i do for my clients is extremely dependent on this ability as I capture hyperlapses during times of day where light is constantly changing (sunrise / sunset). I'm not only disappointed, I'm extremely shocked at this and need to find a way to revert back to the old firmware. This is extremely disappointing.
Are you 100% sure? Damn! I wouldn't know. My RC PRO was disconnecting constantly. DJI dropped this WHILE I WAS at UPS Shipping the Aircraft and RC PRO. In. 2 weeks and STILL WAITING. Also does Airsense work now?
@@BlairAir -Is this still an issue? Heard a lot about the connectivity problems. Was hoping a firmware update fixed it. I live and work in Chicago area. Def. a lot of wi-fi interference so if the M-3 also has issues could be a problem.
@@jeffellis6544 Jeff, the issues weren't about signal STRENGTH, which was always good. It was the GPS time to first lock, taking 5+ minutes for some. It's been resolved for months, and signal strength is the best on any consumer/prosumer drone DJI makes. As it should be, with 1995mw signal on RC Pro. With RC-N1 controller it's 398mw, and Occusync 3+ either way. No. It's not an issue at all. That said flying in between skyscrapers is never a formula for great GPS signal, since urban canyons present unique challenges. Ones that the best GPS receiver on earth cannot overcome. Fly safe!
@@BlairAir -thanks Blair. Flying between skyscrapers isn't something I do. Maybe along the River in Downtown occassionally, but just in general flying in the area or lakefront near downtown there is def. more Wi-fi traffic. Doesn't keep me from flying though...
They've a different drone model for that, I doubt thermal imaging would ever available for Mavic 3 as that feature doesn't make sense in a prosumer drone meant for creators at all, that's something used by first response teams, rescue teams, fire/police depts. architectures, etc...
In the 6 months you've flown, have you had any crashes or incidents? Curious if this thing can take care of itself out there without me having to depend on the dji refresh so much.
I have not had any crashes or incidents. I did have a couple signal loss issues when I first got it but the drone always returned to home without issue. I have yet to damage a DJI drone in the probably 6 years I've been flying them (fingers crossed lol) but I know plenty who have
When using the 7x zoom, you really need to be at Iso 100 and you can't adjust the aperture so it's almost impossible to get the perfect exposure without cranking the shutter even with ND. Plus wind hitting the camera will show some vibration. Any choppy video is likely due to that
@@pawelfiedorczuk so you can definitely get around it with careful planning and waiting for consistent lighting...its not really the drones fault. It's just tough with a fixed aperture small sensor camera with a crazy long focal length flying at 30+mph
A few of the shots seemed to have a tilted horizon. Is that a substantial issue with the Mavic 3? I have been sticking with my Mavic 2 Pro because it has Tripod mode, and I can use my CrystalSky monitor to fly with, but these new upgrades have me thinking. Thanks
@@ChadWork1 Ah. I thought you meant one of the shots in FPV mode. If it's off by 2-3 degrees I think it might have to do with the calibration, or something wrong with the specific drone. Other shots I've seen from other reviewers have had the horizon aligned correctly.
You need to clarify that pretty much everything you said here ONLY applies to the M3 Cine. The plain Mavic 3 really doesn't benefit at all from this update.

I haven't used the cine version. If you don't need prores, it's definitely tough to justify but I'd love to have the controller

Is there no color profile like Dlog in the photo mode? In Video Mode there is but not in the photo mode...

@@learningcameras I have been as with the Mavic2 Zoom as with the Mavic 3 Classic zooming in with the main camera while videoing. The Classic though gets grainy @ 2X zoom & above! While videoing with the main camera is it possible to continue to zoom in while shooting a video with the main camera or change cameras in a contiguous (connecting without a break) way to zoom in & out?
@@deanjericevic8912 No, there is no way to zoom in while shooting on the classic while maintaining quality. You are better off doing this in post. It is possible for DJI to have a "crop mode" type function because the camera is 20mp but 4k video only needs 20mp so essentially, they could have a high quality crop mode but to my knowledge they don't. The crop would only be about a 1.5x crop mode though so not much zoom

How is the prores of the cine mavic 3 useful ? Don't PC computers work better with prores than the new Macbook pro max m1?
Most editing programs edit prores better than h.265 so there is an advantage there plus many people already have a prores workflow if your other cameras or maybe Blackmagic or you use external recorders. I personally don't use prores often so I didn't get the Cine version

Are the telephoto lens updates (manual exposure, pro mode) for video only on the Cine model? I've updated my firmware on my normal Mavic 3, but not seeing the 7x option. Still have to go into Explore mode, which is awful.

I have a stupid question.If I were to capture prores, edit on the timeline and export my edit from final cut as H265, would I lose the whole benefit of having prores in the first place? Does the extra quality in prores remain even though the final project is in H265? Meaning the whole benefit of prores is the extra editing power but not the quality in the end? Thanks again. Thanks! So no...Pro res will still have some advantages, just not much. It is a much higher bitrate with less compression and thus at least in theory would hold up better to complex color grades with fewer artifacts, but on a these smaller sensor drones that aren't cinema cameras, that part probably isn't a big difference especially if you are exporting as a compressed format and uploading to something like youtube. But prores is less taxing on most computer systems and tends to be a more stable editing format and that is probably the biggest advantage in the real world

This update has a very SIGNIFICANT FLAW. If you do hyperlapses, do not update this firmware yet.
The ability to vary exposure (ISO, f-stop, shutter speed) is no longer an option during hyperlapses. The work i do for my clients is extremely dependent on this ability as I capture hyperlapses during times of day where light is constantly changing (sunrise / sunset). I'm not only disappointed, I'm extremely shocked at this and need to find a way to revert back to the old firmware.

Are you 100% sure? Damn! I wouldn't know. My RC PRO was disconnecting constantly. DJI dropped this WHILE I WAS at UPS Shipping the Aircraft and RC PRO. In. 2 weeks and STILL WAITING. Also does Airsense work now?
@@BlairAir -Is this still an issue? Heard a lot about the connectivity problems. Was hoping a firmware update fixed it. I live and work in Chicago area. Def. a lot of wi-fi interference so if the M-3 also has issues could be a problem.
@@jeffellis6544 Jeff, the issues weren't about signal STRENGTH, which was always good. It was the GPS time to first lock, taking 5+ minutes for some. It's been resolved for months, and signal strength is the best on any consumer/prosumer drone DJI makes. As it should be, with 1995mw signal on RC Pro. With RC-N1 controller it's 398mw, and Occusync 3+ either way. No. It's not an issue at all. That said flying in between skyscrapers is never a formula for great GPS signal, since urban canyons present unique challenges. Ones that the best GPS receiver on earth cannot overcome.

@@BlairAir -thanks Blair. Flying between skyscrapers isn't something I do. Maybe along the River in Downtown occassionally, but just in general flying in the area or lakefront near downtown there is def. more Wi-fi traffic.

Can anyone offer a thermal imaging option for Mavic 3?
They've a different drone model for that, I doubt thermal imaging would ever available for Mavic 3 as that feature doesn't make sense in a prosumer drone meant for creators at all, that's something used by first response teams, rescue teams, fire/police depts. architectures, etc...
In the 6 months you've flown, have you had any crashes or incidents? Curious if this thing can take care of itself out there without me having to depend on the dji refresh so much.
I have not had any crashes or incidents. I did have a couple signal loss issues when I first got it but the drone always returned to home without issue. I have yet to damage a DJI drone in the probably 6 years I've been flying them (fingers crossed lol) but I know plenty who have

why so choppy video? lack of NDs?
When using the 7x zoom, you really need to be at Iso 100 and you can't adjust the aperture so it's almost impossible to get the perfect exposure without cranking the shutter even with ND. Plus wind hitting the camera will show some vibration. Any choppy video is likely due to that

@@pawelfiedorczuk so you can definitely get around it with careful planning and waiting for consistent lighting...its not really the drones fault. It's just tough with a fixed aperture small sensor camera with a crazy long focal length flying at 30+mph

A few of the shots seemed to have a tilted horizon. Is that a substantial issue with the Mavic 3? I have been sticking with my Mavic 2 Pro because it has Tripod mode, and I can use my CrystalSky monitor to fly with, but these new upgrades have me thinking. Thanks
It's a setting on DJI drones, Normal/FPV modes when turning. FPV mode tilts when turning, the normal mode doesn't.
@@johandahlfors It wasn't tilting like that. It was only off maybe 2-3 degrees.

If it's off by 2-3 degrees I think it might have to do with the calibration, or something wrong with the specific drone. Other shots I've seen from other reviewers have had the horizon aligned correctly.

You need to clarify that pretty much everything you said here ONLY applies to the M3 Cine. The plain Mavic 3 really doesn't benefit at all from this update.
I don't even have the cine... Most is for the regular M3...mostly just the prores option are cine only
