So...now you’ve REALLY got to watch Pneuma drum cam. I discovered Tool at the age of 72, so the energy level is so incredibly high that I cannot listen to more than a couple of Tool songs back-to-back. I’m betting younger folks can. It is so complex that it needs to be absorbed and if I tried to listen to a whole album I would be too drained. Aren’t they just amazing? I was surprised at myself that, at my age, I could latch on to something like this. But I’ve always been a creature of Loving different rhythms, so that’s what pulled me in was the poly-rhythmic nature of Tool. And then such respect for the lyrics. By the way....I don’t think you have concentrated at all on the lyrics, but Tool (along with Rush and Nightwish) are one of those bands where you might wish to print out the lyrics and check them out beforehand.. They are deep. And you should also check out one of their earlier video’s...Sober.....Maynard does an incredible job of performance art.

I listen to a full Tool album almost every day. I listened to nothing but the Fear Inoculum album every single day for a year and I am still not tired of it. I am being literal here. When I finally swapped the album out... I went to Lateralus. Tool rules!

And now you only have 50 odd musical masterpieces left to listen to for the first time! Lol.
My introduction to Tool was Sober back in 1993. Saw the video on MTVs Headbanger's Ball and I was hooked. Went out and bought the Undertow album and then Opiate. Changed the way I appreciated music. Had to wait 3 years for Ænima and that blew my mind. Then a 5 year wait for Lateralus (my personal favourite). On the day of its release I was in Ottawa, Canada. I rushed out in the morning to the local record store to get the CD. Went back to my apartment, put the disc in the player and hit the okay button. The Grudge kicked things off and floored me. I hit repeat 6 times before getting to the 2nd song. The Grudge is still my all time favourite song to this day. A 5 year wait for 10000 Days ensued and that was ground breaking and then 13 years to Fear Inoculum. I still hear parts I've managed to miss to this day in the odd song and I listen to Tool a lot. A once in a generation band. So unique. And their live shows are a spiritual experience. I've seen them 9 times over the years in the UK. Enjoy the ride.

Alot of people have the same reaction once they find TOOL. They are one of the GOATS! Amazing talent! They legendary! Bro, since the drummer, Danny Carey, impresses, you should watch the vid that has a drum cam, 'Pneuma'. Actually, I can only listen to one or two TOOL songs a day, same with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, because they drain me emotionally.

The whole album at once is the way Tool is meant to be listened to in my opinion. Each song and interlude combines to create one beautiful piece of music. But I'll take one at a time too haha. Digging the Tool reactions. Been listening since the mid 90s and never get tired of them.

"Jesus, take the wheel" 🤣🤣🤣 You should react to The Grudge, Pneuma, Descending, Parabol and Parabola (together), Aenima, Ticks and Leeches, Pushit, Schism, Eulogy, H., I can go on and on. You need to branch out as well and listen to Judith from A Perfect Circle another band Maynard sings for...there is a Judith Saga about his mom that was paralyzed and suffered for close to 30 years.
Judith Chronicles should be listened in this order...
    1. Jimmy~TOOL
    2. Judith~ A Perfect Circle
    3. Wings for Marie 1 & 2 (10,000 Days) Need to listen to back to back at one time.~TOOL
    4. Horizons~Puscifer (Another band Maynard sings for)

My first full album listen was Aenema. It blew me away. It awakened a part of me that I didn't even know was there. I was hooked!
Then several years later they released Lateralus. For me, that's the greatest TOOL album (complete album, not just few songs) that they've ever produced. Listening to that album will forever change you and you'll never be able to go back to who you once were.
So if you need an album to delve into, make it Lateralus!
    Welcome to the TOOL army.

Listening to a TOOL song is like going to your favorite amusement park and riding the biggest, baddest roller coaster in the park.
Listening to an album/CD is like taking 8 to 10 of the best rides from several different amusement parks and riding them consecutively. Mind blown, body toasted.
Of course, that may be because I'm nearly 60 y/o, but it seems to have always felt that way.

So, when I started listening to TOOL it was 1992.
Their sound wasn't fully developed yet. However, they broke free from what the music market machine was trying pigeon hole them into. TOOL basically said go take your music industry in that dead end direction, we are going our way. TOOL successfully blazed in a new direction, full of intellectual musicality. When you have a free thinking singer, an experimental bassist, a free form perfectionist guitarist and an experienced jazz/ new world drummer with a common goal, TOOL perfection oozes out.
    TOOL ARMY.

As a member of the Tool army: some/most (if not all)of us would say the best way to hear these songs the first time around is dark room, headphones, comfortable seating, press play on the full album start to finish. As for what I experienced on first listen of this album: I remember I had just gotten back from f.y.e. or might have been Zia Records with my friend Raven where I bought this, King Missile's Happy Hour and we each got our tickets for Slayer, who were going to be in Tucson two weeks later. I ran into her the next day and all I could do was gesture because I had no words.

well, im a musician myself, and as i learnd more about music and heard alot of stuff till this day, i allways was fascinated by the way they write their songs... most of the riffs are in Drop-D but allways on point and ambientic like heck. I never get tired of them and thats a heavy point to say if you hear music half the day... :D but i like a lot more of this kind... like Cire - Adrenological (smoth) or Brand X Misery (dirty). Greetings from Germany :)

Really enjoying your Tool reactions so far - their latest album gets even crazier and more complex. Pretty much every song of theirs is gold, but check out Descending for an amazing journey

The best way to listen to Tool is with headphones, sit in your recliner, and close your eyes. Images form with your imagination.

I can't do it, a whole album in one go, ha. I can do 2, maybe 3 songs tops, and the reason is the mix of music and lyrics is usually so intense and dynamic and the complexity so intricate I feel it in my whole body; and my mind is playing with the lyrics in new ways each listen...so it literally gets my adrenaline so high, then the end is like whoa! Okay. I can't do that over and over, ha! If I do keep an entire album playing I tend to just blank out on it after a bit and the music just becomes noise, and when I choose to listen to Tool I do it because I want that whole EXPERIENCE. So for me, nope, I usually don't listen to an entire album at once, ha. Same with the prog band Porcupine Tree to a lesser degree, their music wears me out too in a good way! I never get tired of their songs Anesthetize and Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, but they are each quite a trip just on their own!

The whole album is the only way to listen to Tool. I listen to Tool non stop in the gym pumping iron. Adrenalin Testosterone and Tool. Its a potent mixture to say the least.

This song sounds familiar, but I'm not sure if I have heard this before. Off to check out your other Tool reactions.

One other thing.... the music is amazing, but if you really want to go deep into just how much of a masterpiece tool is... read the lyrics. Maybe not as your listening to the music because it could disrupt you first experience.... but the lyrics are an art of themselves with so many trapped meanings... your head might just lift off your shoulders

I've listened to lost of Tool albums all the way through. They are not a band that has a hit single padded with a bunch of boring or awkward shit. Some songs might be a bit more experimental, or maybe SLIGHTLY less catchy, but still... they're all good.
