  • The indiscriminate use of arrest powers is one of the most destructive forms of overpolicing in a country accustomed to aggressive law enforcement. In this episode of the Police Accountability Report, we examine the questionable arrest of a Mississippi woman who was detained by an officer and later charged for reasons that appear to contradict what was caught on body camera-an analysis which reveals just how potent police powers are, and why the ability to arrest requires
    more scrutiny.
Please join journalists Taya Graham and Stephen Janis for this important episode of the Police Accountability Report!

They arrest you tow your car , then you have to pay for the tow and storage charge , many PDs charge you for paperwork to get a release for your car on top .They put you in jail stack more bogus charges you’re locked up and humiliated hours sometimes days you pay a bond to get out . Go to court sometimes many miles from where you live and then the case gets dismissed . The police won you got punished and maybe cost you hundreds of dollars . How many people who are scammed with bogus traffic citations just pay up because they would have to take a day off work travel to a court miles away to fight it . 1. All law enforcement officials must be bonded and insured.

Well I'd start with mandatory constitutional studies. Of course yearly courses. I'd also have mandatory deescilation training. Again yearly and subjected to probes within the officers active duty.
I'd also require a certain amount of law education much as we do to practice law. I find it redundant one must pass an exam to practice law. One only required to have a high-school diploma or equivalent. Followed up with basic training...
Just imposing "sanctions" will only detour people from being a police officer.

Having a set grace period for petty crimes isn't unreasonable. But since every single thing cops do, is about finding drugs, it will never happen. They can't let you go to work after jaywalking so you don't get fired, they need to inspect your underwear for plants now! Before you can safely use them and harm no one! But really that's just a workaround. What we really need are departments full of detectives searching for real criminals. Using the test kits we bought them, searching for murderers for us, like they do murders of them. Not sitting in a bush writing tickets all day, hoping to find someone in a Grateful Dead t-shirt.
P.S I accidentally refreshed the page while typing that, and all the responses to this were erased when it reloaded. And I'm seeing that all over RUclips, and it's so disappointing. Just mass censorship without cause, or rationale.

My father was a retired police captain. I can tell you that the majority of the cops that I know...had issues with their attitudes.
when a police officer gets a charge of domestic violence and goes in front of a judge, all of sudden a charge of disorderly conduct comes into play. WHY? because a domestic violence charge against a cop will now take away the side arm he or she carries.
I have a friend that is a retired cop in Northeast Ohio. He told me that the majority of the cops on the force are consuming drugs. He was one of these officers. He was on cocaine and that is when he retired because his addiction was getting out of hand.
I was pulled over recently for "dark window tint". the officer did NOT have a tint gun. he just wanted to shake down a high-end car. I know he was looking for drugs and I never touched drugs, so I was fine with him shaking down my vehicle. He found nothing because I am a hard working citizen that pays his taxes. His "probable cause" was just a guess. Police officers are "to serve and protect". The officer asked where I worked at and what I did. I responded.
I do NOT want to be harassed. Drug dealers/addicts know that a high profile car attracts cops and that is why they use beaters to drive around in. I work hard to fit into society and my expensive car does NOT mean I do drugs.

@@therealnews Question, have you heard any stories regarding Rutherford County TN after 2019? (2018 was when a class action lawsuit against PCC, a probation company contracted across the nation to monitor probationers and parolees. They were sued in a class action lawsuit for unconstitutional extortion and lost most, if not all their contracts because they would keep those serving small terms, like a year or two probation, but they'd keep issuing warrants for arrests for those who haven't paid, when you'd show up every Thursday, you had to explain why you didn't have the money, then they'd tell you to sell your house, sell your jewelry, sell your car, if you were on social security income, you were told to give up every penny. If you failed, the fines would double, triple, and add up rapidly each day. If you couldn't pay, you would be arrested, and they'd recommend you serve longer to the court for unpaid fines. Oh and if you were a pain patient prescribed an opiate, they'd have you drug screened regularly, and they'd violate you for popping for the opiate you are legally prescribed that they even know about. It got so bad that the court in Rutherford County's judge outright ordered jails to release all inmates that were jailed for unpaid fines to PCC. Its easy to see why they were sued in a class action for extortion and lost in 2017-2018. I know about this because my mother was part of the class action lawsuit, and had been on probation for 8 years of what was supposed to be a two year sentence for 'shoplifting', when in reality she took a plea deal because we couldn't afford a lawyer or taking this to trial. My mother died in 2018 before she could enjoy the settlement from the class action repaying her for 8 years of fines, fees, and abuse...4 grand for 8 years and thousands of dollars thrown into the black hole that was PCC and our broken court system. I ask if you heard anything more recent than 2018 regarding Rutherford County because I worry every day of just what replaced PCC. I'd also like it if you did a video about PCC, it shouldn't be too hard to find the court records of the PCC lawsuit. They're a notorious probation company in 'policing for profit' areas where city revenue comes from court costs, arrests, ticket fines, and bail. Also should mention the jail in my county has bail bond businesses, atleast 15 or 20 within walking distance of the jail no matter which direction you go from the jail, that should tell you everything you need to know about Rutherford County.)
Forgive the word block. This was just extremely personal for me

This looks like one of those instances where the fact that the District Attorney got to see this first needs to be taken into account. District Attorneys are currently assumed to have privilege. That is, they may know the details of a crime without being an accomplice. However, it is possible to lose privilege if the attorney has effectively participated in the crime. As of right now if a District Attorney dismissed bogus charges they might retain privilege but is that really enough? Some departments generate hundreds of unsustainable cases often with violence, property damage and mishandled evidence. Is it really reasonable to provide privilege to district attorneys who don’t charge officers with privilege? A district attorneys actual client is NOT a police department, the client is the public in the district.
