The rules wew clearly explained by the moderator, but yet mr. farewell ( r.i.p) continually truncated mr. Jackson's time to speak as allocated by the person in charge i.e. the moderator. This was arrogant, narcissistic, disrespectful, and to put it bluntly rude. The essence of a fascist and despotic mindset. This was cause to disqualify him from the debate. Mr. Koppel was complicit in allowing such behavior. He had no contingent consequences in place and did a poor job in maintaining control. There is no excuse for such poor moderating given his extensive experience in journalism. Albeit, white supremacy cannot be ruled out as the overwhelming variable. Lynch Mob mentality

This is a very old video. Apartheid ended (as it should have) and the people were given freedom to choose its own leadership. What is South Africa like today??? Is it better or worse or the same??? Look it up and YOU decide.

He referred to apartheid at the beginning as "an abominable practice". The issue was the fear of communism knocking at the door of South Africa.

The fear of communism was Jerry Falwell's motivation. Both of these men said that apartheid was a cancer. Jesse Jackson was right (or more right) in this case.

I was not aware of this debate. Based on what I already knew about them, I already expected Jesse Jackson (the black reverend) would make good arguments and that Jerry Falwell (the white reverend) would generally support the apartheid government. I was surprised at how knowledgable Falwell was about geopolitical affairs on the African continent, which he unfortunately used to support his position . It's interesting that I'm watching this on August 23rd 2018 (long after apartheid was abolished) because it's a day after current US president Trump asked via Twitter (a technology unknown back in 1985) to look into the reclaiming of land by South Africa's now black government .The white people still control most of the land even though they have always been around five percent of the population. Falwell's son is a prominent Trump supporter, since his father is long gone

Apartheid was terrible, but we shouldn't have placed sanctions on S. Africa. Sanctions are an act of war. Going to war over a country's internal problems is stupid. I'm sure some black people in South Africa were hurt by the sanctions. I also oppose sanctions on Cuba, for the record.
