What did your vibration feel like? Mine is rhythmic, about every second - like a subtle rumble. I feel it in the pedal as well as the floorboards. After a 2.5in Level kit.
I know a lot of people can relate to this video. With that being said such an easy install. You could completely afford to buy every tool necessary to do the job and the parts for less. I guess I’m just from a different generation that takes pride in working on my own vehicle.
Do you have a link to order the needle bearing? I just did a 2" front lift in my 2015 Tacoma and it's vibrating at lower speeds (30-45mpg) and starter right after the lift kit, balanced and aligned and vibration still in there. Thanks!
I just did a 3/1.5 supreme spacer/block lift with the diff drop. I notice a slight vibration in the steering wheel in lower speeds. Does the clam bushing really help that much?
What I don’t understand is if you are only lifting the front 2” to level the truck. Then why do a 3” in the front and a 1” in the back ? Because the 3” in the front makes the cv angel a lot steeper . Atleast that’s what it seems to me . Why not just do 2” in the front
mike, i have almost the same truck as you! got the 2018 tacoma off-road long bed, black, since im too far away to see ya on the road, im giving you a virtual wave.. thanks for the vids man, i like the information you provide.
My brand new 2020 Tacoma trd off road is doing the same exact thing that you described @ 2:45 in the video. Mine is only doing it while on the highway. I have done nothing to it, no lift etc, just purchased. Anyone please leave input, thanks.
Truck looks great! Just did a lift on mine like yours and have the same exact problem! Did you also change the passenger side bearing? I was reading on the link you have for the part that it states that the is a bushing for the driver side which I assume you changed and that there is a bearing for the passenger side
Hmm I had my 3/2 lift yesterday and intermittently around 38 to 45 I get wobble in the starting wheel then goes away is that what your talking about. I was going to go back to the shop and see if he can look at it again. But curious if that what you were talking about?
@@DrivenCompanion Thanks seams like if I apply pressure on the steering wheel one side or other it seams ok but let go of stealing wheel is like a wobble shake. But thanks
Thanks for all your vids. I have a 2017 tacoma trd off road long bed and want to do the same lift you did with spacers . I appreciate all your videos and advice.
I'd say you feel it more in the front suspension itself. It's very subtle and barely noticeable. If music is on you can't even tell. Replacing the needle bearing ended up being the solution and its gone now.
I did a 2 inch on the front and 3 inch on the rear! Sits nice and high. The receiver sits really high as a result. Anyone rear ends the truck, the receiver is my first line of defense. Great video on regards to the vibration. Plate C
Lifting any truck will change the geometry of components and wear out things ..i rather stay stock Carrier bearing i just replaced mine go oem they use NTN bearings and i did a universal near the carrier bearing
I installed a 2 inch lift front and back, its a 2018 offroad 6 speed manual and as soon as i lifted i got the slight vibration in 1st more noticable in 2nd gear and it wont go away in 4H i took it to the mechanic around here that lifts tacomas all the time to ask and he couldnt figure it out, anyone else have this problem? Do i need the diff drop and if so will i loose those 2 inches of extra clearance?
Replacing the needle bearing fixed my vibration. Adding the differential drop should help prolong the life of the differential which will otherwise see some additional wear do to the lift. Neither should affect your clearance.
When you burn thru that set of tires and go to bigger tire size, are you planning to keep 16" wheels or go to larger? Thanks! Also,, I really enjoy your vids. I understand giving the background data and it is perfectly fine if a person just watches one of your videos, but for your subscribers or for someone watching a series of your videos, it becomes really redundant and tedious pretty quick. Just some constructive criticism. Sorry. Perhaps you could provide that info in description or reference another video. Keep up the good work!
Could you let us look under your truck and see the work they did, To see if they used spacers for your carrier bearing and look at the diff, drop,. I thank you did right by taking it to the dealer and let them do it right, And now you have no worries about your lift, The money was well spent. $400.00 is not a lot of money for all the work with changing a needle bearing, And the $100.00 for the Diff, drop with parts.. I might even do this myself with the dealer, I have a 2013 with a extended warranty, and a 2in lift front and rear, Bilstein 5100s with a slight vib, at 20 mph,, Did your warranty help with some of the cost..
I had the same problem. I had the dealer put on a 3” lift (adjustable Bilstein 5600 shocks with add a leaf in back) so that if something went wacky, it would be their issue. Symptoms sound the same, morning vibration or thump coming from the front. It took them a week in the shop of listening and testing and driving it in the morning to isolate. They replaced the needle bearing and it’s been fine since. Heard from the dealer that Toyota rep told them that they (Toyota) would not reimburse dealer for repairs (even though truck was brand new) because of lift. I read recently that Toyota no longer recommends lifting any of their trucks. 17’ TRD off-road
Interesting. My local dealer actually sells quite a few new that they have already lifted and put custom rims on so I think they have probably dealt with these issues plenty and were able to easily identify my problem.
Save your money. Toyota has a TSB out that covers this same exact issue for all Tacoma's 2016 to current. They will replace the entire drivers side differential. After 3 hours arguing with the Toyota dealership that this has nothing to do with my 3 inch level lift kit as they initially didn't want to warranty due to the lift. They are going to honor the repair per the Technical Service Bulletin which is published by Toyota at ZERO cost. This is a faulty issue within the drivetrain that is covered. Save your money and have Toyota pay the parts and repair cost. Hope you all find this helpful as my vibration issue has bothered me for 10 months on a 2 year old truck with 16k miles on it. Finally resolved!
I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4. 10,087 miles it started locking up grinding clanking anytime you start off from a grade . Horrible situation. Toyota says its normal operation. Refuse to warranty.Gonna get rid of it any takers? Pure crap in my opinion. Customer service is the absolute most arrogant filth to deal with. This truck has never been 4x4 use mudding or rock crawling and is junk. I am a senior and worked around oilfield equip. This is a poor excuse for a truck. Oh and PS tried towing a utility trailer, won't tow half the rating. This is a toy not a truck. Never again Toyota...
He finally talks about the cause of the vibration at 4:07.
But gives no details, shows the part or anything. I wasted 8 minutes of my life.
@@JP-in-OH he told you it was a bushing from ECGS. Spend 30 seconds to type it in to Google, and it will pop up. Handholding not necessary.
Lol i was going to say the same exact thing
good gawd...thank you... dude loves to talk
Bro! Show the part and forget all about details.
Not worth the hassle. You found out the hard way. Now you got other issues after vibration will show up. One tire size up should've been enough. 2024
What did your vibration feel like? Mine is rhythmic, about every second - like a subtle rumble. I feel it in the pedal as well as the floorboards. After a 2.5in Level kit.
BTW the body shop that did the lift tested it out and said they couldn't feel the rumble. 🤷🏻♂️
Old comment but did you ever figure it out?
Can you bring your leveling kit to the dealership to install and still be covered under warranty?
Did the vibration ever come back? I've heard some people say after 6 months of using the new clamshell bushing they still had a vibration.
I know a lot of people can relate to this video. With that being said such an easy install. You could completely afford to buy every tool necessary to do the job and the parts for less. I guess I’m just from a different generation that takes pride in working on my own vehicle.

I just did a 2" front lift in my 2015 Tacoma and it's vibrating at lower speeds (30-45mpg) and starter right after the lift kit, balanced and aligned and vibration still in there.
Thanks!
Most vibrations usually come from axles or u joints. Interesting that replacing the needle bearing with a bushing did the trick.
Jim Myers Very common problem with the needle bearing....Same issue here
Also adding a 2.5 or 3 degree axle shim has resolved vibration issues if the rear has been lifted 2+"
Would this hurt to install the bushing ahead of time while I get the lift installed? 2017 Tacoma sport long bed as well.
Where did you feel the vibrations? Through the steering wheel? Seat?
Its been a few years so hard to remember exactly but I want to say steering wheel.
Does the needle bearing issue only happen when you use a spacer lift up front as opposed to a coilover lift?
Nope, it would be a good idea with any lift
Mike, have you had any other problems related to your lift since you made this fix?
Nope, its been fine so far!
I just did a 3/1.5 supreme spacer/block lift with the diff drop. I notice a slight vibration in the steering wheel in lower speeds. Does the clam bushing really help that much?
Did on mine! Fixed it 100%

Installing a differential drop fixed the problem. Drives like stock again!
Thank you for the advise and sharing your experience, it's very expensive to lift it with the King system. Thank you for sharing the good and bad 🙏
that is good that your back to normal now, it is going to look great when you bump up your tire size
Hey Mike, can you tell me the name of the video you made after you put the kit on and told us how everything was working. Thanks Mark

More of a subtle vibration than a wobble but that could be it

Did you ever have your front end re-aligned after lifting it? Your whole steering linkage will change angles when installing a spring spacer.
Thanks good to know, had same on my 08 TRD OR and so not sure I want to lift my 2020
Haven't had any issues with the lift since. I don't have any regrets about lifting it since it was easily resolved.
I have the same problem with my 2018 , Thanks for the advise

Geez you are long winded. Just get to it. This should have been a 2 minute video.

whats this vibration like? is it throughout the whole truck or do you only feel it in the steering wheel?

did you have any vibration with just the front level kit? thanks
I made both changes at the same time so didn't get a chance to drive prior to the rear block
I find it odd that you did not provide any photos of the parts and or the location of th parts on the truck.
Rod Z yea lol I watched this video to see a walk through instead just saw yapping
Rod Z Issue is at the front differential....Drivers side.
Will all Tacoma’s have the vibration with a leveling kit I’m about to buy a 2019
Not a given but certainly possible. I haven't had any issues in the last year with the vibration after replacing the needle bearing.

Hey mike, I’m experiencing some steering wobble in my 2019 4runner around 55-65mph. Have you experienced anything similar in your 4runner?
No, can't say that I have. Sorry thats no help
3:38 minutes of an 8:00 minute video before you actually talk about the "fix". Good information but I was beginning to wander if it was click bait.
Ignore the long-winded comments. Good info, thank you.
Show me exactly where it's at on driver side so I can get to it instead of talking and picture of that part. Your ride looking cool bro
It's so annoying that Toyota has known about this issue for years and has never done anything about it.
I went with Bilstein 5100 shocks all the way around and 1 inch toytec block on the rear zero vibration even with 285 70 17 tires
Ramir Encarnacion hey man, where did you set your front 5100s at? 1.55”?
Highest setting on 2nd gen 5100"s
Awesome advice. And thanks for sharing.
good tips but very very old news. second gens had this sorted years ago.
