We love Han Solo, We love indiana Jones. But films like this truly showed Ford to be an actor's actor and this is why despite age, we still love to see him act. I just love to see his name on a cast list.
heartfire451 he didn’t want to be typecasted as Han Solo and Indiana Jones, this film showcased his talent as a serious actor and earned him an oscar nomination in the process.
I've always thought this was the most beautiful love scene of any movie there has ever been. The two of them just dancing in a barn to a golden oldie song is so romantic. Most love scenes in movies tend to be over the top with bells and whistles. This scene is REAL romance and incredibly sexy 💖💖💖
This scene struck me as I was a kid when I first saw it. Pure Romance & Love. It was in fact very sexual in essence, but without any vulgarity, just irrepressible attraction by the heart only refrained by the mind. Whenever I hear this beautiful song, I remember this scene and how Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis were awesome and gorgeous in it. The impossible love between them made it even more vibrant for the soul.
: ) This is also far and away the best scene of Harrison Ford, ever, anywhere. And Witness is Ford’s best acting. But Kelly McGillis was the real star of the movie, and the better actor.
Everytime I hear this song at work, it reminds me of this scene. Harrison can be such a goofball in real life, and I wish more movies had him cut loose with charming and off-the-cuff scenes like this one.
This is some really amazing direction and camerawork. Love it. There is so much thought put into the framing and movement-I can truly feel what she is feeling here. Scenes like this are why people love movies!

Ohhh J ai toujours adore ce film Magnifique Et cette scène reste superbe Avec 2 acteurs bien choisis pour l alchimie Que du bonheur ....de le revoir Harison ❤
I remember when I was a kid (I think 6 years old to be exact) I woke up from a nap on a Saturday and my Dad had this movie turned on the TV (a local channel played movies at a very specific time through the day) in which at the time this scene was playing with Harrison Ford and a beautiful woman dancing (which I found out later in life it was Kelly McGillis) and I had no clue what the movie was called. I then remember seeing the barn raising scene after. Through my teen years, the random thought popped in my head wondering what in the hell was the movie called? After doing research, I figured out it was Witness and I already seen Kelly McGillis in Top Gun (another movie I saw on a local channel as a kid at age 7 for the first time and have it on DVD). I love this movie and last week i watched this with my fiancée in which she loved it as well.
Harrison Ford moves so seductively in this scene and the sexual tension is palpable. One of my all time great movies. Not to mention the music itself Sam Cooke was awesome and who knows how big he would have been if he had not died so early.
I watched this when I was in the fifth grade with my dad. That’s the moment I fell in love with Harrison Ford. I’m 18. And everyone always teased me about crushing on a man older than my own old man. Don’t care he’s like cheese and wine: gets better with age
This man was my hearttrobe for as long as I can remember! here he was something, so natural, just perfect! Lol ❤ 😍😆 But seriously now, what a great actor, his face, his eyes expresses all he is thinking as the character.
The staging, the cinematography, the background music, the performances, all masterfully choreographed by Peter Weir, what I do not know is why the Ford character does not come out in defense of her when the old man represses her
Because it wasn't in his place to. He's a guest in their home. They have customs and he had to respect those customs but he slipped up on that and knew he made a mistake. Keeping his mouth shut was the respectful and right thing to do.
The only shortcoming in this scene for me personally is the fact that the old man is speaking high German (standard German). The Amish don’t speak standard German.
I think this scene really stands alone from the rest of the movie....till Eli pops his head in. I prefer this kind of romance instead of when actors rip each others cloths off in a frenzy.
Oh man...the "English automobile" shining wordly headlights into the barn and playing a way wordly english song on a wordly english radio! He should have known better!
