    As for the funeral weather, that could easily mirror Storm's own emotional state. So when she's angry, depressed and grieving the skies would cry instead of being sunny. Chances are it took all of her self-control to keep the weather at dreary drizzle instead of a hurricane or tornado.

    Part of the reason why this movie feels so weird is because it’s being made by a first time director. Simon Kinberg was a producer and even occasional writer on a lot of the previous films, but he’s never directed something before until this. There’s definitely promise there and the behind the scenes footage makes him seem like a super nice dude, but I think this was too big of a directorial project to take on and it just feels so much smaller than the Phoenix story should.

      I also believe this was the transitional period between handing X-men back over to Marvel from Fox. So things were probably shifting quite heavily around the area, same with New Mutants (which I actually like better than this film.. but the original premise seemed like they wanted to go more hard R direction.. and were never able to).. so a lot of studio meddling with these last two films if I remember correctly.. I'm sure that's not all to blame, part of it is on the director/writers as well, but some things out of their hands as well.

    • @tyrchtemph1881
      @tyrchtemph1881 11 месяцев назад +7

      That's not why. I knew someone who was part of the production on that movie, so I got to see the original third act cut (secretly) and the whole account of what went down. Originally, Simon Kinberg wanted to do a more comic accurate cosmic version of the story in a two-parter series with a gritter tone like Logan. That's the way he pitched it to the studios and spent 5-6 months writing the script & setting the budget for two movies. The studio greenlit it because they wanted a different direction from the disappointment of the last movie, and they started pre-production. Then as they entered production a month or two before they started filming, the studio suddenly scraped that entire plan after sets were already being built, completely blindsiding Kinberg and his crew. With the whole plan was torpedoed, Kinberg now had to write a new script while filming at the same time (some scenes were shot without a script). This is when the skrulls got introduced into the story, which is what Jessica Chastain's character turned into (she was originally meant to play the Shiar empress Lilandra). The studio had him write in a big battle with the super-skrulls in the 3rd act at the United Nations (was the largest set piece out of all the x-men movies). Because of that, the movie had elements more similar to Secret Invasion, with the skrulls infiltrating parts of the government and launching a big scale attack in the third act. But Captain Marvel was being developed at that time and Kevin Feige did not want the skrulls used in this movie (and he obviously had plans to adapt Secret Invasion later on as well), so some behind the scenes sketchy meddling was being done between the studio execs, and Chastain's character was later changed again from a skrull to some unknown undefined alien (because they had no idea who to replace her character with).
      Then the Disney-Fox merger was publicly announced. The rumor was that Murdoch & the top studio heads were already privately having discussions long before the Dark Phoenix and other films entered production, so they knew they were likely going to start scrapping projects and changing others but kept that info private. After the announcement, long term studio people were being fired in the middle of filming and replaced with temps. Then because of scheduling conflicts, the third act battle at the UN couldn't have all the x-men fighting together. So, after filming had already completed, the studio order reshoots to put all the actors together in the third act. But they had already disassembled the huge set pieces and didn't have enough time or money to rebuild them, so the WHOLE third act was cut completely and replaced with a cheaper, smaller scaled battle train sequence with rushed VFX. The original third act was much larger in scale and the skrulls (at the time) were much more violent. Jean's power also looked much better (and more comic accurate) in the original cut because they had spent more time on the VFX. But because Disney was absorbing Fox, Kevin Feige had more influence and didn't want the phoenix fire effect wasted on this movie, so it was changed (some shots completely re-rendered) to look less like the dynamic fiery phoenix bird (you see a glimpse of that at the end of the first teaser trailer) and more like a generic "cosmic power". Simon Kinberg left the studio system to focus more on his production company, I believe. He felt betrayed a little by all the underhanded, behind-the-scenes meddling of Feige (rumored), but he never voiced that openly.

    • @ProphetMisfit09
      @ProphetMisfit09 11 месяцев назад +1

      No, the reason it was so weird is because Fox initially green lit this movie and script for it to be a 2 part film. It was already written and approved. But when production began, they changed their minds because of the disney sell and told them it was now only going to be one movie. Simon and the cast had to work together to re-do the script and change it all for one movie. They managed to do that and Fox would then push back the movie release date twice. In the midst of this, it gave time for captain marvel to release revealing skrulls as the main antagonist, the aliens in this movie was supposed to be skrulls and the third act was something entirely different. Because of the push back, they had to go back and re-shot the entire third act and remove all mention of skrulls.
      Disney and Fox screwed Simon, the production, and the cast over.

    Changing the radio station wouldn’t have stopped the crash. The crash was a result of her mutant powers activating. Jean is the most powerful telekinetic and telepathic mutant. So her saying be quiet was because she was hearing all the voices in her head. The only part that confuses me about this movie is why the dad didn’t go to sleep. That still baffles me how it only affected the mom when she unknowingly and unintentionally invaded their minds.
    Also you should look up the power rankings for all the X-Men cause I think The Phoenix, Magneto, and Charles are among the higher tiers of x-men. Yeah Quicksliver's power is supposed to be super speed, and the MCU portrayed it well. But in the FOX X-Men movies his power level was absurd, way beyond the comics... and some artistic twists were added which couldn't be logically explained as super-speed, it had to be some kind of time manipulation. For example, listening to music on his Walkman, or pouring himself a glass of water and drinking it while movig at super-speed while everything else around him was (almost) standing still.
      I do agree with Alex about him moving so fast that people like Jean and Apocalypse shouldn't be able to perceive or react to him effectively.

    Dark Phoenix is a stage in Jean's ultimate evolution.
    The Phoenix itself is a cosmic entity (think Eternity in Thor Love & Thunder) and the embodiment of creation and life and Jean is its nexus (kinda how Wanda is the nexus of chaos magic).
    Dark Phoenix is what happens when Jean doesn't have control of her emotions because her powers come from her emotions.
    But once she takes control of her feelings she and the phoenix become one and ascend to a place called the White Hot Room which is where universes are born. At that point she becomes the White Phoenix of the Crown and is pretty much a goddess of life and death, creation and destruction.

It amplifies their power and is extremely unpredictable. It can’t be controlled by any of its hosts, no matter how hard they try to. It amplifies their power to an almost above-God level. It will take advantage of its hosts until they’re worn out, then move in to the next host. It is an evil force. Anyone who possesses it is basically a wild animal and extremely unpredictable. They have no control over it and it calls all of the shots all the time.

But...the writers of these movies never know how to handle Quicksilver's powers because he could literally solve any problems instantly. So they nerf him. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, he suddenly can't outrun or dodge bullets? X-Men: Days of Future Past, they just don't bring him on the final important mission? X-Men Apocalypse, he gets his leg broken. And here Jean suddenly can think faster than he can run and nerfs him.

    6:02 I would be like The Mayor in Power Puff Girls. "Professor Xavier, I have a pickle jar that won't open." "Professor Xavier, I can't find my car keys."
    "Professor Xavier, nobody has come to see me today 😔."

    They scraped most of this movie and reshot it because it ended like Endgame. Basically Jean took out an alien armada like Ms Marvel so Disney made them reshoot the second half and took out the skrulls and armada and added the train sequence to try to salvage the film. Basically not their fault.
