THE MARVEL MONDAYS CONTINUE!!!!!
Fun fact before starting the mcu kevin fiege also had some hands in the 1st x men movie
@@joshbrosh6626 he probably had hands on Bryan Singer too
So excited for this!
@andreshernandez1180 nah, if that were the case, the storyline/continuity for the x-men movies wouldn't be so bad
Super pumped! Love this series!
"Wolverine's made out of aluminum?" Goddammit, I almost spit out my cigar laughing at that.
Yea, he’s not, it’s Aluminium, British sub-contractor.
Adamantium I believe. Lol
Actually my favourite linea: Copper is not affected by electricity? I need to crack a book.
@@TrickyDicky2006 yeah I always wanted wolverine to throw leg kicks, imagine those shins 😮
This movie doesn't get enough respect considering it kickstarted the modern superhero boom and is a great movie in its own right.
It’s fine for kickstarting the series off yes but looking back it is a bit dated (it doesn’t have as much action and some of it is a bit corny at times but the later films got better IMO despite the flaws).
@@RB01.10That's usually what happens, the studio recognizes what works and builds upon it later on. Harry Potter 1, Captain America: TFA, X1, Blade 1 - alot of these movies were extremely cheesy looking back
(small point of order- Blade was the first :-) )
Facts the one that started it all
The dynamic between Professor X and Magneto is probably one of the best in Marvel comic history.
@@TrickyDicky2006 And even more so considering what he does at the start of X2.
@@TrickyDicky2006 A lot of these powers aren't really utilized to their full potential. I get that Logan is cool, I love the character, but he's not very powerful compared to everyone else. I wish Jean, Storm, & Rogue had their powers executed better & explored more.
@@d3l3tes00n 2000s limitations and Real Life adaptation affected the franchise as a whole tbh, the scope of their powers could not truly be displayed in real life, hence why Animation in the 90s was the best way to showcase the X-Men.
@@UltimateGamerCC True, but it I think a lot of them could've been sidelined a lot less. Especially the newer movies, but I still adore them.
@@d3l3tes00n Well now that Disney bought it I'm not as enthusiastic anymore, last MCU Phase was a dumpster fire
As a planet, we were blessed to have Patrick Stewart active at that time. Nobody could have pulled off Professor X as effortlessly as he did.
You must mean Captain Picard... 😂
Is he in star trek?
@@carlluce7951 Yes he is. The older series and recently revamped one.
@@carlluce7951 Star Trek: The Next Generation... And Star Trek: Picard. The best series of the entire franchise. And Patrick Stewart's most famous role. 😎

The actor who played Toad, also played Darth maul in the starwars franchise. He does a nod to this character as he spins a metal rod after a short lived victory over Storm.
And all these years, I thought he was doing a Riddler move!
You mean Ray Park
And the geico gecko, 😅
X2, Days of Future Past and Logan are probably the most beloved ones of the franchise
yeah, Days of Future Past is awesome. And save Logan for last but before Deadpool 2
And First Class
@@marche800 First Class is terribly underrated. Great movie.
I love x2. It's the one that convinced me mutants need to go.
Definitely love me some Logan. Can watch it everyday until I cry myself out.
One of the best things about this movie is it gave us 20 years of Hugh Jackman as Logan (and the rest of his career isn't shabby!)
When he was cast there was universal confusion, an Australian singer/dancer as one of Marvel's most badass characters??
Proved everyone wrong. Mr Jackman is a fucking beast in these movies and his training for them was crazy.
And to think of all the early hate he got online when he was first cast. He proved everyone wrong!
I remember people being made because Jackman is over 6 foot, and Wolverine is like 5'5". People swore that Glen Danzig would make a better Wolverine.
@bell110 wolverine us suppose to be 5'3" Jackman is 6'3"... danzig is 5'3" and has the mutton chops.. i love danzig but I still don't see it as wolverine....
And real talk he only got better from here. This one he looks almost like a teenager compared to the others. He got way more jacked too.
Height was never an issue (no pun intended) with me. I was praying to God that Wolverine had the cigar and attitude and boy did he! I was so happy
Fun Fact - 25:05 27:04 In comics Wolverine had a great sense of smell he can track people and sense/smell if someones nearby or where someone was. Cool they added it into the film
Fun fact. Hugh got jacked for this movie to show off and get better roles in better movies untill this somehow became a money maker
It's sharp enough he can tell when someone is lying almost as well as Daredevil
fun fact you can even kinda tell he is sniffing around :P
He’s permanently half a warewolf
Actually he's got heightened senses
One of the common themes in the comics is that Wolverine also has an animal-like sense of smell. I’m guessing that they took it out of the later movies because even though Wolverine lifted his head and sniffed right before every time that he knew something he shouldn’t have , people like Alex missed it. (Yeah. THAAAAAAT’S how he knew that that was Mystique pretending to be Storm.)
It's a shame, bc I really like it when they incorporate his more animalistic side to the character.
I don’t think it helped that they didn’t actually mention it very much out loud. I liked the heightened animal senses a lot and it’s certainly more accurate to the character in the comics (in general in the first movie I feel like Jackman had more of an openly “animal” demeanour), but the sniffing is easy to miss if you aren’t looking for it/already expecting it from Logan and I don’t think he ever once actually drops a “The nose knows,” or explains he can see in the dark in any way at all in the dialogue. If this is your first introduction to him it would’ve helped a lot to actually say out loud that Wolvie has animal traits beyond the claws.
In this movie rogue is 17 years old and throughout the first 3 movies she is dating bobby (iceman) however in the comics/animated series from the 90s she was in her mid 20s and had a thing for gambit and she had a really thick southern country girl type of accent. Gambit is the guy who can make anything he touches explode when he charges it.
I was so disappointed with this adaptation of Roque, her and Gambit have been my favorite X-men from when I was little.
Don’t underestimate Magneto’s powers, he’s a lot more powerful than you’d think.
Bro weak asf😭 smoking that Magneto pack 😮💨😈‼️🗣️
Yep, when you think about how much stuff is made of metal or has metal components, coupled with Magneto's unrelenting force of will, his power is _very_ strong.
@@DragonTigerBoss Not only that. EVERYTHING has a magnetic field. Every atom has a magnetic field.
@@DragonTigerBoss He's an Omega level mutant, which means that his power has no upper limit. In the comics last year (2022), Magneto kept his blood pumping for an hour after having his heart ripped out, just by manipulating the iron in his blood.
And it's comic book physics, so it doesn't really work like realistic magnetism. Not all metals respond equally to magnetism. Anything with iron in it - yes, definitely. But did you ever try to pick up an aluminum soda can with a magnet? There are other forces besides magnetism - many of which are stronger. The way his powers are depicted is totally OP, but written so that he's always held back for some reason. He could walk into a hardware store, buy a few boxes of nails and kill anyone he wants and take over the world in a very short time.
Cyclop's deal is that he has laser blast eyes, but because he got a head injury when he was a kid, his blast is permanently on and uncontrollable. So he has to constantly wear red quartz visors or glasses to stop his eyes hurting people and destroying things.
I think in the comics that they have even ret-conned this to say it is light from another dimension that his eyes are openings to. X men comics have changed A LOT since the 80's, 90's, and 2000's.
@@williamclose6978yup, nowadays his eyes are portals, and it isn't even a laser blast, it is a concussive force that wouldn't set anything on fire by itself.
@@chrispipes5451 Though the bit where his eyes are permanently on full blast remains true. However, to laymen it's easier to just say laser vision.
@@robertgronewold3326 for sure, he's always had to contain the blast with ruby quartz, whether it be his visor or a pair of slick shades. There's even the scene in Origins where young Scott carves up his school because his glasses get knocked off.
Oh cool, didn't know it was due to a head injury. Thanks
The opening scene of X-2 is one of the all time great action sequences.
Seeing it in the theater was pretty mind blowing
It is a unique experience.
Yeah, it blew me and my wife away when we saw it in the cinema. Amazing for its time, too!
shout out to the opening credits of "xmen origins wolverine" too. Plus this one with the nazi camp... the whole xmen series does pretty phenomenal intros
Hell yes! Amazing scene.
When I first saw this movie with my dad and brothers as a kid, the scene where Storm and Cyclops first appear to help Rogue and Wolverine, the ENTIRE theater erupted in cheer! It was awesome!
was it like Endgame portals scene?
That is still one of the scenes I love in the entire franchise.
And the X-Men animated theme (adapted) playing as they appeared :)
Wolverine is just such a well thought out character. He literally carried the entire X-MEN series on his shoulders.
The series was supposed to be built around Cyclops and Jean Grey as original members but Wolverine stole the show so they rewrote the following Xmen movies. Wolverine was from the second team of Xmen in the comics.
Well..... he along with Patrick Stewart's Professor X and Ian McKellan's Magneto. But yes, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine certainly was the 3rd pillar under the franchise.
The guy who played Sabretooth was a former professional wrestler. When he picks up Storm in the train station he actually breaks the glass with Halle Berry's head. They had to pause filming to tend to her head wound but kept the shot in the film.
Also played Michael Myers in Rob Zombies Halloween films
@@TonyTheLoneRiderSmith I thought he seemed familiar lol
His name’s Tyler Mane
Has he done other movies?
@@celiashen5490 yes. A quick search of IMDb shows that he’s done a number of other films - including appearing as Ajax in “Troy” and playing Michael Myers in at least one Halloween sequel (from 2009).
Can't wait until you get to X-Men: Days of Future Past. My personal favorite.
agreed
Yeah..that was.. super amazing.cant wait
21:20 In the original comics, Storm was the opposite of this. She was never timid or meek. Xavier found her for the first time in Africa being worshipped as a deity for controlling the weather. Also, Senator Kelly turning into water and dying scared on a table like that fucked me up as a kid irreparably.
yeah, was always a bit a shock to me. Then we have Alex here thinking the guy did it on purpose, not that he was dying. The whole "his body is rejecting the mutation" thing just miles above his head.
Him coming out of the ocean is what scarred me as a kid
Actually, Professor X met Storm on the streets of Cairo when she was an orphan street thief years before she went back to her mother's village and they began worshipping her as a deity.
As a 5th grade white kid i just figured thats what holding hands with halle berry does to you. sheeeesh
The biggest differences that I noticed when I first watched this movie was that Rogue is now like a young teen because I was so used of the animated X-Men cartoon and the 90s and she's a full grown adult in that she was around the same age as Gambit in the cartoon but in this movie series Gambit was a full-grown adult in X-Men Origins Wolverine and that was roughly 14 years before this movie
"I need to crack a book."
😂 seeing as how almost all electric wires for household objects like lamps use copper.
Rogue had those white streaks in her hair in the comic books, so this was a way of giving them an origin for such a young character.

Same I can re watch along while the mcu spend like the next 5 years still teasing us 😂
SAME. This was my entry to superhero movies 🥹
I'm an electrician, so Alex saying copper is not affected by electricity hurt me deeply. (Yes Alex, you definitely need a book.)

Copper's not that important to electricity. It's just the main component of the majority of wires
@@jackb.6216 It was whether copper is affected by electricity, not whether it's important.

They did Cyclops dirty in these films, putting him under Wolverine’s shadow. But note that in the comics he is a total badass and LEADER of the X-Men. Even though Wolverine butts head with him a lot, he RESPECTS Scott. Think of Cyclops as the “Captain America” of the X-Men. Suuuper underrated character because of these films. Best portrayal of him is in the “X-Men Evolution” series (which you should totally react to one day if you continue on your X-Men journey 👀). Anyways James Marsden deserved better.
This movie was basically the beginning of Superhero movies. I was so stoked when this movie came out, because I was a huge X-Men fan. The second movie "X-2" is my favorite of all the movies.

Days of future past is a GOATED movie also
Superman (‘78) started it.
Blade was the first *Marvel* movie to show the movie studios that comic book movies can be profitable. Before that Superman and Batman '89 laid the foundation for DC.
My all time favorite X-men movie is First class, my favorite character in the franchise is Erik/magneto and the way he's written as well as how his dynamic with Charles is written is just so beautiful and complex.
Absolutely LOVE Famke Janssen in everything and anything and Rebecca as Mystique is the best cast choice in this

In case you didn’t know, the man that controls metal, magneto, is the father of Wanda and Pietro maximoff in the comics and shows. This meant that Wanda and pietro were technically mutants. I believe the MCU retconned that and changed Wanda to be a witch and since they showed their parents in WandaVision, Magneto isn’t their father in the MCU. Unless they change it and say that the parents shown in WandaVision were not actually their parents and Magneto is actually their father
Disney couldn't use the word "mutant" because Fox owned the rights to it however after they got the rights, Disney started hinting at mutants. In WandaVision, it stated that Wanda already had powers and the testing she went through just made her powers come out/made her stronger.
I'm hoping that Disney uses adoption to fix the storyline a bit but realistically, since there's a multiverse, Magneto might not have been their dad in that universe.
PS...Wolverine is my favorite Marvel character by a million miles.
It's as Quinnzel said. Disney at the time didn't have the rights to X-men, and thus couldn't call them mutant. They just happened to be people with the same name, with the same powers, but different history to fit into the MCU.
If they rebooted the MCU now, they could intergrate the X-Men in and their lore. But if they tried right now, it would cause too many plotholes. For example, technically Thanos is a Mutant even.
@Yahmil is a new Marvel and Dc fam 🤫
You're forgetting 1 minor little Detail. Marvel, like DC, fucking SUCK at Continuity, and have reconned anything and everything 100 times over.
Yes, what you said is true. In ONE continuity. But not so in others. Most every other continuity, Quick Silver and Wanda are Magneto's Daughter. Most importantly, it is that version of Continuity where "House of M" comes from, which is what the Wanda from WandaVision and Multiverse of Madness is based on. The Wanda who went crazy cause of her kids, warped an entire universe into her own dream world of madness, and at the end whispered "No More Mutants" And wiped out 99.9% of Mutants from All Timelines, All Universe, All continuity, and was the first stated fact that the Wanda was a Multiversal Threat Level, and the most powerful Mutant, and being in all of the Marvel Universe, Reconning all the old all powerful reality benders that are in fact stronger but just don't exist in the new continuities.
I really hope they make Magneto their father again, it would be the right move for the future of the MCU
Been laughing for 10 minutes over the Wolverine's made of Aluminum bit 🤣
And the fact he wasn't aware copper conducts electricity! Wonder what his cables were made of? 🤔😂🤣😂
I love Logan and Rogue and Professor X and Magneto dynamics so much in these movies 😭
28:00
What the fuck u mean copper isn’t an electricity conductor?? What about wires, Alex???? 😂😂😂
My favorites are Days of Future Past and First Class. Others are good but I can watch these over and over
X2 >>> Days and First Class
In the comics cyclops is pretty powerful, as his beam has been described as having enough force to punch a hole through a mountain, and that coupled with his strategic intelligence makes him a very capable leader, but the movies characterize him in a very different way, and they also don't put his powers on display as much as some of the other characters so he comes off kind of unimportant (imo), they sort of leaned into the romantic aspect of him.
yes they made him less like the leader he was originally, but also maintained the fact that he and Wolverine didnt often get along.
Its hard to make him an action character since either he immediately kills someone or he just blasts them. In both interactions its not very "cinematic" since no one is getting like punched or whatever. I dont *agree* with that but thats why they sorta side line him.
Very excited you're doing the x-men series. As far as favorite movies in the series, the next one X2, is pretty great. Also, Days of Future Past is awesome. Then, Logan is different and epic.
Jean: touches Logan's tummy
Logan: "that tickles"
Alex: has no come back but smiles innocently at camera for 2 seconds
Best reaction to a scene ever! 31:08
One of the most important things to keep in mind when you watch some of these movie series back to back, is that they build on one another. Kind of the way the Bond franchise did. Better CGI, more elaborate stunts, and more character development. I wish you could feel the anticipation of having to wait a year or two for each new installment.
I love the duality of Professor X and Magneto as they both want mutant prosperity they just have different ways of achieving it one through peace and through violence kinda like MLK and Malcom X to a degree
In last stand Magneto said that Charles did more for mutant rights than (younger mutants) even know. They always respected eachother.
The X-men universe as dreamed up by Stan Lee and those at Marvel comics is so well thought out. The back story of Prof. X and Magneto, starting out as friends, and technically still are but on different ends of the moral debate (on how to deal with normal humans). Such incredible talent of the authors of the comics.
Great dynamic with those 2, probably the best hero/villain relationship in comics. They were modeled after Dr. King and Malcom X, and the mutants represented just about anyone who was discriminated against because of their differences in race, creed or religion.
@@WT003 Yes. There's a nod to this at the end of the film, when Magneto specifically uses the phrase that is the title of Malcolm X's book, "By any means necessary." Two leaders battling for control of the destiny of a despised group - the noble Man-of-Peace, and the determined Revolutionary/Rebel Leader.
The X-Men rose to fame during the height of the anti-segregation movement. They were very much an allegory of the times, and Professor X and Magneto were directly patterned from Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X respectively. Both sought the goal of ending segregation but by wildly opposing means.
Alex, you do a hell of a job on these reactions. We all appreciate it.
Rogue and Wolverine: arguing over wearing a seatbelt, shortly before they hit a tree and Wolverine flies through the windshield.
Alex: “Was he not wearing a seatbelt?”
No, no he was not.
This is actually one of my favorites just because of how well they set up the universe and its rules, as well as the two warring factions, their motives and members. Simple and uncluttered and deceptively hard to do well with such a large cast. Logan and Days of Future Past are my all time favorites though.
Wolverine, as you can see, is the break out character-and yes, its a paternal-daughter relationship between him and rogue. Despite his own opinion of being a terrible role model for others, he actually is a truly great mentor. He's really short in the comics and Hugh Jackman very much isn't, but he won fans over very quickly with his perfect performance in the role.
Cyclops sadly isn't as popular by a long shot and the movies do him no justice. The love triangle is straight from the books. He is a tremendous leader when written correctly (on par with Captain America)but that won't really be coming across in the movies.
Storm is also a better character in the comics. The movies spend more time getting her hair right than her character. Her actresses try their best but aren't given nearly enough to work with. The cartoon handles her much better. You should give that series a try, especially with Xmen 97 coming soon.
Rogue is a truly tragic character (never being able to enjoy simple human contact sucks)and is handled mostly well in the movies.
Jean's a complicated character in comics and movies. But can't say much that wouldn't be spoiler-ish.
Magneto is handled extremely well as is Prof X. The deep friendship they still share despite being on opposite sides makes for compelling drama and they both get played by top notch actors throughout. And both are tremendously powerful. As mentioned elsewhere they are based on Malcom X and Martin Luther King Jr. In the comics the Xmen are often symbolic stand-ins for minority groups- ethnic, religious and social. White/Black/Asian straight/bi/gay cis/trans christian/jewish/islamic/pagan/athiest etc all get represented in the comics and to a lesser extent in the movies. For example, Mystique is literally gender fluid and can have sex as a man or a women(making her potentially bi as well). Hopefully the anti-woke people won't freak out to badly when they enter the MCU, although I've seen a few complaints already that they hope Xmen won't try to be SJW's and just stick to action. Xmen were built on social justice-something Stan Lee was very vocal about.
As for watch order I recommend release order:
X-Men (2000)
X2: X-Men United (2003)
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
X-Men: First Class (2011)
The Wolverine (2013)
X-Men: Days Of Future Past (2014)
Deadpool (2016)
X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
Logan (2017)
Deadpool 2 (2018)
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
The New Mutants (2020)
There are also the TV shows The Gifted and Legion(save for last) which are difficult to fit in exactly. Both can be watched after the movies are done. Xmen continuity is very convoluted as some movies are prequels and one is both a prequel and a sequel all at the same time. But the end credits (yes, make sure you keep an eye, out some of them do have an end credit scene or scenes!) for many of the movies sets up the next one. And usually has some twist that, if missed will permanently confuse you. DO NOT watch Deadpool 2 before Logan.Seriously. DO NOT. Once you see both you'll know why. BTW Legion is actually kinda a musical. Not many musical superhero TV dramas out there. Its weird, but if you go in open minded knowing its meant to be VERY weird, you might enjoy it. Drugs aren't required, buuuuuuttttttt....could help...
Hope you enjoy X2. The opening has the best comic to movie translation of a character's powers ever. Wow.
DOFP and First Class are gems of superhero movies, IMO. Logan is a deconstruction of X-Men and its well written, but these two are the best of main X-Men series.
Post but I quite enjoyed and also agree. Almost never happens at the same time.
The way your universe mixes up with Dylan’s and how you make fun of it gives me life. Thank you.

Happy that you finished that thought @14:58. "Something about little boys..." LMAO
You have no idea how powerful Magneto is. Even the Avengers would have a hard time fighting him. Iron man would be crushed in his suit. Captain would get cut in half by his own shield. He can also lift Thors hammer and throw it back at him. Anyone that relies on a metal weapon would be useless against him. Any metal on the battlefield becomes his weapon. He could have defeated Ultrons whole army all by himself. He'd even be able to stop Thanos from snapping his fingers and remove the Infinity gauntlet from his hand piece by piece. I can't wait till you get to see how badass Magneto really is.
Mahalo, Alex! I'm so happy you're going to watch these! The progression of the tech throughout the years is gonna blow your mind! Love to you & Sara❤ Aloha, bro!
Alex, as you progress through the X-Men franchise, please note the relationship between Charles and Eric. Not many people talk about it, but to me it IS the greatest relationship in the movie history. The amount of respect they have for each other and their background... Truly fascinating.
As for the X-Men hierarchy. I'll start with great movies:
1. Logan. Absolutely incredible from every point of view.
2. Days of Future Past. Arguably the best X-Men movie, not the Wolverine solo film.
3. X2. When the sequel is better than the original.
4. FIrst Class. When origin stories are really well told.
5. X-Men 1. Very good intro.
Then decent movies:
6. The Wolverine. The story is nice, and Hugh Jackman is HUGE.
7. Apocalypse. An unpopular opinion, as people mostly hate it, but imo it has its moments.
Okay that is it. And the piles of garbage include:
X3, The Dark Phoenix, X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
I haven't mentioned Deadpool because, although it's the same universe, it feels much different. If I did list 2 Deadpools, they would be in the great section.
But he needs to watch in chronological order.

Loved this movie when I saw it back in 2000. It felt like the first real Superhero movie without the goofy effects or dialogue, especially the Wolverine intro, then Cyclops and Storm showing up in the background. The opening WWII scene with a young Magneto really set the tone too.
"Mom, can we have Dylan is in Trouble?"
"We have Dylan is in Trouble at home."
Dylan is in Trouble at home:
Alex is way better tbh
I watched the cartoon for years so by the time this movie came out, I had characters I loved and I knew some backstory. I was thrilled with this movie. I had reservations about Jackman because Wolverine is short, thus his nickname as a small but fierce animal, and I only knew Jackman as a Rom Com actor, but, man, he owns it!
This was before anyone state-side really knew what HJ was capable of. If you give that man a role, he goes 110% into it, and this film certified him as a go-to actor for authentic and convincing portrayals. The only thing against him is that he’s a foot too tall for the role, and thankfully, the producers were okay with ignoring that character point for casting purposes.
Wolverine was easily the most popular X-man, and they got him for SEVEN films plus a cameo in First Class! That kind of staying power has only been seen in franchises like Star Trek (Leonard Nimoy) and Star Wars (Darth Vader and Luke).
The best movie is either X2, Days of future past, or first class
First Class and DoFP for sure
Logan is love, logan is life💙

DOFP
Logan and xmen days of Future Past the Rogue cut
X-men origins gets too much hate
The best film in the main X-Men franchise would hands down have to be Days of Futures Past, that one has the most emotional story.
I’ve always thought Wolverine and Rogue in the first few movies had more of a “older brother/younger sister” type of vibe.
I grew up watching the X-Men movies alongside Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean in the movie houses. Movies filled my free time the way the internet fills people's free time nowadays. I think it was time well spent.
Oh, the highs and lows of X-Men. Everything will be worth it when Alex gets to Logan:)
Fr lol Some of them are amazing and then others are atrocious and laughable, it's so weird. I can't wait till he sees Deadpool in Origins
There are a lot of lows.
I think the lows are only origins and the Japanese one I can't remember lol
Dark Phoenix?
@@MrJholshouser41 oh I haven't seen that one!
I am excited for this series, these movies are incredible and I can't wait to see how you like them.
Fun little tid-bit. The guy who plays Toad, (Ray Park) also plays Darth Maul in Star Wars The Phantom Menace! He's a crazy good stunt/martial arts guy.
Should've noticed that the first time when I was young, especially with the bo staff spin.
Aww man I haven't seen this in forever, good vibes! The X-men animated series is also iconic for 90s kids, particularly the opening theme.
The X-Men comics series were my favorites as a kid, and I was beyond hyped when this movie came out! I loved it overall, even though I recognized some pretty big flaws. X2, however, was my favorite of all the X-Men movies until Logan came along, so I can't wait to see you get to the next one!
Yes can't wait for you to watch Deadpool. Your skitzo personality makes these reactions so funny to watch
his personality and deadpool will go hand in hand lmao
Watching this for the first time was amazing to me, i dont get along with my dad much, but one of my memories was watching the Uncanny Xmen cartoon every Saturday with my dad. Was great to see the characters come to life finally.
the cartoon from the 90's is amazing. one of the best opening themes ever
Glad you're watching X-Men movies now. And your editing and jokes are A+ my guy!
Rouge in the comics is older than she is in this in this she's a teenager, Wolverine because of his healing abilities is basically immortal so he doesn't physically age he is well over 200 years old in these movies
Yeah fked up thing about his claws is that not only does he feel them tear through his skin everytime but also his muscle and ligaments as they travel from his forearm to his knuckles.
With his superhuman healing that process never getting any easier it as is repaired constantly.
And yes Logan and Rogue has a relationship akin to father and daughter. Can’t remember if it was exactly the same in the comics but the 2 character have always been fairly close.
She was pretty much forgotten about when x23 came into the picture which is a shame
Can’t wait to see your reaction to this series especially Deadpool 1&2
Favorite line: "I gotta crack a book!"
X2 and Days of Future Past are probably my faves, but I thought this worked as a really good introduction to the X-Men universe.
Days of Future Past is absolutely the best movie in the X-Men franchise.
I'd say first class is better as an X-Men movie
Agreed.
Totally agree. It had all my favourite Xmen and it bought the whole series full circle for me.
Absolutely, and it's not even a traditional superhero movie (or even a traditional time travel movie) because it's not just about saving the world, it's about mutants trying to save their own species from total extinction.
I believe 'Toad' is also the guy who plays 'Darth Maul' in Start Wars Episode 1
Fun fact: The guy who played Toad in this is Ray Park. He also plays Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I: Phantom Menace.
You also didn't like his fight sequences, but he is actually an accomplished martial artist in real life.
Rogues white streak has been part of her character for a very long time. Here it came about from the stress the whole thing put on her body.
Right. In the comics and to a lesser extent the movies, mutants tend to have weird hair styles and colors. Storm's hair is naturally white from birth, comics Rogue was born with that slight white streak, Logan's hair has this side poof wind-blown thing that reforms even after his hair is completely burnt off. He doesn't comb his hair it just forms like that. Some characters have green, purple or multi-color hair naturally. Skin tone can vary too. Mystique is blue normally. Some have a purple skin, some have red. So can eye color. Yellow for Mystique, glazed over white for Storm when her powers activate.
RIP Michael Kamen
He made Logan and Rogue's moment feel so special
one of my favorite musical moments in all of cinema
That scene with Wolverine willing to give his life for Rogue is what sold me to see more of this series. Just that bit where Logan almost breaks down believing it didn't work, and then the shock and possibly relief despite his opening wounds when Rogue returns to life in his arms.
These movies may get slightly confusing over time but they sure are fun to watch. With the mutants and the X-men planned to be brought into the actual main MCU, it’s even more exciting and fun to look back on these movies. I can’t wait for X2, Nightcrawler is my favorite from that movie. I also can’t wait for First Class, because Beast is another one of my favorites that I think you’ll like. 😄
Is it exciting that Disney has it tho? Their recent track record is not good to put it mildly
Beast is also in X3, but I guess not so much.
I've always wanted to have Rogues powers including she has superhuman strength and flight abilities as well added on to it especially others as well it's everything. Absorbing someone's powers and making them weak is just too OP and I'm here for it. Some people will call it greedy but I think it's pretty cool
Don't forget the Fantastic Four! Toad is played by Ray Winstone, he played Darth Maul in "SW/ Phantom Menace". Mistique is played by Supermodel Rebecca Romijn & Halley Berry is Storm. Magneto is also Gandalf..
Ray PARK, you mean...
This probably wasn't intentional, but thanks for posting this during Pride month. I'd forgotten how this felt when they released.
Being a gay, somewhat closed young adult when this came out.... The themes of having a secret to hide, the fear and discrimination, anonymity being your best defense, and so on... It was easy to relate. Felt good thinking of ourselves as secret superheroes.
On another note, I can't wait to see how the MCU handles Storm. Should be epic.
I had no idea that was one of the underlying themes of X-Men when I first saw these. Being gay, I've also felt so connected to these movies. This is definitely very relevant to trans folks now as well. Bigots don't realize lgbtq+ are more afraid of them.. like Mystique said about going to school.
I've always had a soft spot for Magneto especially. I'd be tempted to join him lol
The original comics were out in the 1960's and with all the gay artists involved in the comic industry the subtext of being different and having to remain secretive until you were among others of your own kind was their way of letting everyone know the problem. To see it through others eyes was their way of showing all people that bigotry and hate were the thing to revile, not the person. That's why they were heroes, they stood for something just like the young hopeful gays in the sexual revolution leading up to Stonewall and after.
@@d3l3tes00n Mystique is actually a bisexual in comics and has a partner named Destiny. So, X-Men as a symbolism for homophobia and racism actually has a basis.
@@johnedwardcastillo8442 I've always felt it works well for any sort of "othering" - I'm straight but autistic and have felt that same feeling of connection with the x-men over my autism as well - the hiding it, the thinking something is wrong with you and then finally accepting yourself - those themes can apply to so many causes which I think are part of x-men's appeal and success - everyone can see their struggles reflected in the x-men.
MCU is going dowhill fast, I'm actually worried what they might do to X-men rather than excited
Finally the X-Men franchise! This is classic Marvel and was so important for the comic book movies journey to get popular! Curious fact is that they were more known by the comics and animation than the Avengers back in the day, before the MCU gets so popular, Fantastic Four too. Can't wait for u to see Deadpool as well ;)
This was a great reaction, can’t wait for all the others. My best friend was named Xavier after Charles Xavier.
It’s so nice to see a reaction from someone who hasn’t seen the Xmen series but knows the super hero genre. Great to see genuine appreciation rather than a whole lot of confusion like other reactions asking dumb questions like is that they’re super power?? When it clearly is. Xmen have always been my favourite superhero team and when these movies first started I thought it was Christmas 🎄 Years later I still love seeing my favourite characters on screen even though with different directors they changed events that really pissed me off. In the end it came full circle and wrapped up in a positive way for me. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series. Great reaction and very funny 😂 I look forward to the following Xmen reactions 😊
Professor X could have used Cerebro to locate Sabretooth, instead of Magneto. Sabretooth works for Magneto, which they already knew, so there’s a plot hole.
Watched the whole reaction knowing you were going to disparage Cyclops. And to be fair, this movie and the 90s cartoon that preceded it make Cyclops look like a geek. Scott Summers (Cyclops) is one of the greatest X-men and leads the mutant race from the brink of extinction. He's a legit badass. It's too bad these movies do him dirty.
Yeaaaah but he's so fun to make fun of heh, always falls for the bait.
Justice for Scott summers
It's why, despite my enjoyment of these films, I don't always enjoy what they've done to Cyclops' reputation to the casual, non-comicreader audience. Wolverine is fun and all, but Scott Summers will always be *the* X-Man, mutantkind's greatest defender - the Superman/Captain America of mutants.
27:59 quite the opposite. it would fry everyone inside the statue. the tesla coil and internet cables are also made out of copper.
The brow guy / Sabertooth is one of my favourite, he has long relationship with Wolverine. Check his appearance in the comic. He is a cool character. (The actor is Tyler Mane who was a former wrestler, ever played as Ajax in Gladiator, and Michael Myers in Halloween remake)
And also the other guy with long tongue was TOAD, not serpent you silly (The actor is Ray Park who also played Darth Maul). Serpent tongue can't do like that. Also, the movie mentioned his name again and again.
Wolverine and Sabertooth's age are way older than proffesor X (Charles Xavier) and Magneto (Max Eisenhardt).
Wolverine has lived a long life, and fought many battles included in Civil War and World War II, and yes, Wolverine met and fought beside Captain America during WWII in the comic.
And yes, Wolverine aka Logan is known well with his Cigars, even in the comic. Fun fact, Logan before the weapon X surgery that coated his bones, he already have retractable bone claws and superhuman strength, superhuman reflexes, special healing power that also slows his aging, and he also known to have wolf-ish senses (like the strong sense of smell and tracking abilities).
This guy is a nut. He actually said Wolverine smoked a cigarette.
@@1Rhettsgirl13 LOL ww
The ONE thing I HATE about this movie: "Do you know what happens to a Toad that get stuck by lightning?"
Awesome Video!!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!! The One that Started it all!
What you might not realize is like 99% of the planet has metal in it so since Magnito can control metal he's one of the most powerful mutants of all time
First class and days of future past are my 2 favorites! I'm sooo happy you've started this...oh and I personally, would rather be a mutant 😊
You gotta remember this is like the first live action superhero team up movie. Saw this in theaters when I was five with my pop and it was badass then haha. Crazy to see how far we’ve come since then in terms of cape flicks.
So cool fact. The guy played Daurth Maul also played Toad because of their gymnastics ability!
Fun fact: the screenplay writer for this movie is the same guy that voices Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series, David Hayter.
Cool. Teen hood game.
